Is it worth getting the Weyland Yutani Report? Always wanted it and feel it's a bit of a gap in my collection (despite some of the information being dated now after more recent films).

Or should I hold out for the long gestated Alien Encyclopedia slated for October this year???

When are we going to see a new edition, revised and updated, to include Rommy?

The Alien Encyclopedia has been pushed back to late 2026. We have no idea what's in it, how's the art etc. My bet is that thing will never get released. Do not count on that thing.

The WY Report is one of the few physical Alien books I own, and by far the best. The art is superb. The info is extensive and meaningful. Depends at which price you were getting it, but it was so so worth it for me.

personal opinion.
it's not bad
but also not the best thing (in the case of presentation) that is available in addition to the franchise.
It's a nice idea to set it up as if the reader were an employee of WY.
I like the leather cover with the WY logo stamped into it. I have the standard version.
(I don't like the one with the big Xenoface that much anyway)

some entries are really cool like the "forbidden" report from Morse called Starbeast.
and there are many alien illustrations, most of which I like.
In terms of information, it is certainly the most comprehensive and accurate.

In some places the presentation seems a bit childish and too colorful for me personally.
as if you were trying to explain the franchise to a first grader.
But perhaps it was also WY's intention to make some things seem a little "nice" for its employees.
:)

I always loved the thematic element of it being written from an in-universe perspective. I especially loved it introducing XX121 and the catalogue element to the Xenomorph naming. I did think that Space Beast was a huge weakness in it though. It's a fun book, for sure, and it's actually released.

We haven't even had an edition with a Covenant chapter!

(and no, the Augmented Reality Survival Manual does NOT count)

Yeah, but nobody cares about Covvy.  Everyone loves Rommy.

If his autograph isn't just his initials written in block letters, I'd be sorely disappointed.

I've created quite a few articles on Xenopedia from the Wey-Yu Report; I think my favourite is alkaloid nahcolite solution.

I really like it, apart from all the meta excuses it makes for Prometheus, referencing OotS, the rather salty writing of AlienĀ³ in the summary of things learned from the Fury incident and the really dumb potential applications section later on in the book.
