I never heard of thanatourism until I stumbled across this book reference. Apparently touring the Chernobyl nuke plant disaster would be considered thanatourism, according to the definition found online - touring sites of death.

I guess I could have provided a courtesy link....
https://books.google.com/books?id=ukr7CwAAQBAJ&pg=PA181&lpg=PA181&dq=scifimoviezone.com+thanatourism+and+cinematic+representations+of+risk,+by+rodanthi+tzanelli&source=bl&ots=CBuh5FdxgC&sig=ACfU3U3aT4BFnIG8zEVYFGnE2klVl4XODg&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwimuprJhunpAhUbJTQIHXTpCF8Q6AEwAHoECAcQAQ#v=onepage&q=scifimoviezone.com%20thanatourism%20and%20cinematic%20representations%20of%20risk%2C%20by%20rodanthi%20tzanelli&f=false

I didn't get or read the book, so I have no idea what the refence is other than it has something to do with the movie District 9.

Update: heh, no takers. Little to no surprise there, most everything I have has already been thoroughly exhausted elsewhere on the web. When it came time to yank it, I just couldn't pull the trigger. So for now it will remain up, but dormant. Not to mention I have literally thousands of images hotlinked from that site to numerous forums, including over 10 years of hotlinking images in AVPG. All those 10 years of images would go broken link.

However, I've decided to strip it down to only features I really want to keep - large projects like the enhanced script presentations, sci-fi history research projects, etc. I've already stripped out a couple hundred pages and will continue wiping out a few more hundred pages. I think that's why I lost interest in updating it, it just got too large. Over 900 pages made the task of updates insurmountable, so I just quit updating it.

I'm sorry to hear. It's always a sad day whenever fan-site disappears.  :'(

Nothing to be sad about. It was a hobby project that lasted over 10 years, and enough sponsorship revenue that paid for itself. Can't ask for much more satisfaction than that from a hobby - longevity and financially self supporting.

Those interested in any sections, just pm me to keep the details off this public forum. If you might be interested, I will send you an email document stating I relinquish all rights to content including text, coding, and visuals, and my request of no courtesy link back. (there would be nothing to link back to, anyway, ha)

Has nothing to do with cost, that's super cheap. I just don't see any point in keeping it up when I never update it anymore.

Sad to hear you close down. I will take a look if there is something to lift to my site.
As I understand you don't want to pay for the hosting anymore? Domain renewal should be quite cheap.

I wasn't ignoring your reply, fiendish, I just haven't checked back in this thread.

Anyway, my domain renewal is coming up. I have maintained this site for over ten years and i am done with it. I had my fun with it, time for it to R.I.P.

For those of you who run fan sites, I have over 800 pages of sci-fi content,if you see a section you would like to adopt let me know. Please no credit comment tags. If you adopt one or more sections, it's 100 percent yours, as if you created it yourself.

Much of it is just repeat of what is already on the web, but there is lot of work put into the enhanced script presentations that might interest a fan site, not to mention that's a resource you just can't find elsewhere on the web. So it would be a unique resource.

Of course "unique" does not necessarily equate to "valued," but I will say I get more visits for my enhanced script section than any other section.

It is amusing, and telling.

Okay, thanks, VM.

An amusing tidbit......
When I do a story/screencap presentation for my site for a given film, I first check the web for an inventory of screencaps. If I prefer screencaps more suited to the presentation, I just do my own. But most of the time there's a treasure trove of screencaps already available. I thought I would add The Predator story/screenshots to my Predator section.

I have no love for the film, but my Predator section seems incomplete without it. Actually I have several film presentations where I didn't like the movie, but added it anyway for collection sake and other various reasons. There's plenty of screencap inventory of The Predator trailers on numerous sites, but none of the feature film.

Not a good sign when the movie webmasters can't even muster the interest to do a screencap presentation for the feature film. So I will do my own....but I only rented the movie. I will have to buy it on VUDU to get screencaps, but they want 20 bucks for it. I would pay 20 for Predator 87, but not The Predator. So I will wait till it's on sale....at least 50%.

Anyway, I just found it amusing that there's zero feature film screencap interest for The Predator on the web.

Okay, it looks like the small one is called Fugitive Predator, the big one called Ultimate Predator. I guess I will go will those.

The big boy upgraded Yautja from "The Predator" is the "Assassin".

Predator Roll Call

One of those quickie projects. Looking forward to adding The Predator to the inventory.

I rarely update my hobby site anymore, but I guess I will add the two creatures of The Predator to the Roll Call. Have nicknames been firmly established for those two predators, for example Scar, Urban Predator, Jungle Predator, Wolf, etc.? I don't know, I haven't kept up.

Been a long time since I did a show and tell for my Alien Predator Zone. Here is the Alien 79 Enhanced Script Presentation.
http://scifimoviezone.com/avpalienscript.shtml

Alien 79 was the very first enhanced script presentation I did. It was pretty rough. Years later, I gave it a significant makeover. A few of the screenshots, I used javascript to display limited motion...like an animated gif....but it's not an animated gif. If you scroll past screenshots too fast, you might miss them. Some came out pretty good, others not so much.
