There are funny moments as well, especially regarding Father-Mother relationship.

Father is the king of dad jokes.

I'm gonna watch it again tomorrow.

Aye, I'm definitely going to be rewatching all three again before next Thursday as well. There's a lot to take in. I'm just so glad I dug it as much as I did. 8)

YO! I was not expecting to see some new Ridleygrams for this today. 8)

EDIT: Oh man, I love seeing the ball igloo in there. :D That was such a neat little design and super well executed.

Spoiler
My favourite scene from episode 1 is when Mother "kills" Father. Didn't expect that coming.

Spoiler
That did put a really interesting spin on their relationship moving forward too, especially in light of Father's actions in episode 3.

Can't wait to see what's up with the fake Neomorph he trapped in the little hut.

Watching episode 1 now.

I retract my statement about it looking cheap, but the CG is still not up to scratch for what I consider worthy. But that may be because of the budget and time constraints.

I find that any little gaps in the CGI quality are made up for by the quality of the designs themselves, but I do get what you're saying. There are some really impressive shots in there too, though.

I find that it is worth noting that the show was originally made for TNT, not HBO. So this was actually made on a regular cable budget, and yet somehow still manages to mostly look better than some shows right now (looking at you, Lovecraft Country) on HBO that got the proper HBO budget treatment.

I believe the story content is worthy though, gives me the feel of Black Mirror to a degree. And that's true it has changed hands a bit, glad HBO is taking the risk to show it. I quite like the gore and the shock factor of nurturing to psychotic. Looking forward to episode 2 now.

Man, I really want one of these Mother Necromancer miniatures they put in the Virtual Premiere packages that were sent out. Surely someone is gonna wind up putting one on eBay....

Ridley Lynch!  But seriously, this man is admirable. I will follow everything he does, especially his science fiction.  :)

Nightmare Asylum

I would kill for some books collecting the Ridleygrams from Alien, Blade Runner, Prometheus, Alien: Covenant, and his episodes of Raised by Wolves...

Necronomicon II

CGI looks fine to me. Everything is super slick.  ???

Man, I love the intro. The first few seconds of it actually remind me of "Part 8" from Twin Peaks: The Return.

I think I'm going to rewatch all three episodes of this this weekend. Take it all in again. Right off the bat this is just so very much my jam.

Interesting thing - Mother introduced herself to Mithraics  as Lamia.

Lamia was a woman in Greek mythology, who became a child-eating monster after her children were destroyed by Hera, who learned of her husband Zeus's trysts with her. Hera also afflicted Lamia with sleeplessness so she would anguish constantly, but Zeus gave her the ability to remove her own eyes.

"Lamia" was also used as a bogey word to frighten and discipline children.

The lamia has been ascribed serpentine qualities, which some commentators believe can be firmly traced to mythology from antiquity, and they have found analogues in ancient texts that could be designated as lamiai (or lamiae) which are part-serpent beings.   [wikipedia]

Interesting fact.

The song begins with fading tunes of late Jóhann Jóhannsson's - Song For Europa

Obviously Ben Frost was quite influenced by Jóhannsson's work when he composed the OST.
Furthermore, this song is from  Jóhannsson's album Orphée, and Orpheus is also associated with mystery religions concerned with the afterlife, such as the mysteries of Cybele, Dionysus, and Mithras. [wikipedia]

Quote...Album's (Orphée) overarching theme of Orpheus and that myth's themes of thresholds and crossing borders. The lonely girl's voice reciting seemingly random numbers became the voice of Euridyce, a voice from beyond, from elsewhere.

I like these small details.
