Trouble?

Btw. I just realized those sticks on the top image are snow candles or snow sticks. The special effects guys use it to create artificial snow.

Trouble?

Spoiler
Yes. It's merlin's (not Merlin as wizard but falcon) name given to the bird by future Merlin, who takes his name from that merlin. If it makes sense :)

Spoiler
Boy Emrys finds bird merlin (small falcon) who follows him. Boy names him Trouble. At the end of the book Rhia suggests that Emrys should call himself Merlin but I cannot tell you why.

Travis Fimmel about Wolves:

QuoteThe A-lister went onto discuss his new project, where he had a pure fan boy moment over the director. 'It's a Ridley Scott thing which is just amazing,' he gushed before adding: 'I've always wanted to work with him but have never been given the chance to do it.' Giving his fans a bit of a synopsis, Trav went on: 'It's about... the Earth becomes uninhabitable and we find a planet to live on. 'And of course a people do, there's a lot of politics and stuff going on,
Spoiler
everyone bickers and we all fight and probably have to move to another planet after that.'

Talking about his character arc, the star revealed: 'There's one spaceship left and my character infiltrates it and goes up with the enemy and has to live with the people who killed his family.'

Nice find Ingwar. Yeah, got the impression that Earth was a war-torn wreck in this series. Nice bit of additional info there as well as to how he comes into the story.

Ok, now that makes sense!  ;D

I wonder if Travis will be told off. He spoiled a bit.

Unless they told him what he was allowed to say?

So, it looks like the story basically goes like this then:

Spoiler
A colony ship carrying human embryos and crewed by two androids is sent to a distant habitable world.

QuoteRaised By Wolves will be a 10-episode serialized science fiction series that will see two androids raising multiple generations of human children from embryos on a virgin planet, trying to rear them as atheists since religion has fractured Earth and are aiming to keep religious differences out of the equation in the new colony, as to save them tearing each other apart. They discover the belief in the unknown/unreal is part of being human and is harder than they think to remove it completely from their new society.

By the time the series starts there are already six children being raised by the two androids on this new world. A beginning of evolution of the new race. Everything is well.

But the last working spaceship from Earth eventually arrives on this new world carrying adults consisting of Marcus (an ex-soldier), Sue (a combat medic), Paul (a boy of unshakable faith), Hunter (formerly from a religious order), Tempest (a pregnant rape victim), Holly (a warrior) and various others. The introduction of the new arrivals creates conflict and contention when they introduce their beliefs and vices to this new virgin world.

I hope it's gonna be very compelling and multilayered story, full of religious, cultural and psycho-social subjects.

By the way, title itself is quite vague. Raised by Wolves. Androids as "breeding" alphas in symbolic wolf-pack (colony/new society)? Or human kind as wolves in reference to Latin proverb Homo homini lupus est meaning "A man is a wolf to another man"? Intriguing.

𝔗𝔥𝔢 𝔈𝔦𝔤𝔥𝔱𝔥 𝔓𝔞𝔰𝔰𝔢𝔫𝔤𝔢𝔯

I think the original meaning of the phrase "raised by wolves" was in reference to the mythical founders of Rome, Romulus and Remus who were reputedly raised by a female wolf. They were raised by a wild animal yet they created a new age of civilization in a very barbaric time.

The more modern (and commonly known) meaning of the phase is simply in reference to people who act uncouth or uncivilized. People with bad manners. So it might be ostensibly in reference to the androids who raises the children. We might be led to believe that androids are not to be trusted (as per Ridley Scott's films) but I suspect it will have a double entendre and that in the end it will be the children raised by humans who are in fact the uncivilized ones.

So essentially the same as your two theories. And in the end it really comes down to the same thing really,

Another stunning location shot from RBW camera ace, Derek Ueckermann.

They are now filming in the Cederberg mountains about 300km's north of Cape Town.
It's a much more arid setting, well known for it's dramatic and almost otherworldly rock formations.
So I guess this is the location we saw in the concept art earlier - on the wall to the far left:

:o Scott has a good eye when choosing filming locations. These rock formations are insane in a cool way. In fact I like it when nature gets drunk and gives us otherworldly geological formations. Here are some nice examples of that.

Murphy's Haystacks, Australia.

Wave Rock, Australia.

That last one reminds me of this  ;D

Yeah, Scott does all his location scouting himself. He actually did some location scouting in Australia for The Martian, but I think your examples are even too otherworldly for Mars!

Didn't know that. I always though he had team of people for that.

These landscapes look gorgeous. They're shooting in so many different locations which makes me wonder about the plot. Are they gonna travel somewhere/looking for better place to live? Run from somebody?

Yeah, from as early on as Blade Runner at least. When he originally got to LA to work on the film, he asked someone to show him the city's most famous landmarks. And that's how we ended up with Union Station, The Bradbury Building, The Ennis-Brown House, 2nd Street Tunnel etc. in the film.

For Alien Covenant he chartered a helicopter to show him New Zealand's South Isle. And that's how we first learned that it would be filmed in NZ and that it would take place in a mountainous, rain forest setting.

More recently he was spotted doing location scouting for The Cartel in Mexico and Spain.

Good question, so far we've seen savannah type environments, dune seas, decayed urban settings, forests, mountains, coastal areas and now these interesting rockscapes. Though some of those areas might be for Earth scenes like that run-down industrial area.

The bulk of the series seems to have been shot at Lourensford Estate (dubbed "Base Camp" by the crew). That area with the mountains in the background we first saw when they started filming. So I guess that's where the colony itself is established.
