Harness disguised as a limb?
Its leg. It's balancing on its tail/standing on the landing leg -- the legs are out behind it, bent at the knee. That area is its calf/ankle/foot.
I dont think its a leg, when it drops its in Christ crucifixion pose. It's legs wouldn't be anywhere near there, even if its legs were bent
Its a huge crucial moment, First time we see the xeno and those unknown appendages shuddering when he stops his descent are critical. They are not his arms or legs
It's a weenie.
I think the harness that lowered Bolaji had extra limbs built for that scene to make the alien look even more unhuman

The Alien's feet are on the landing gear. The torso dips lower, so the feet stay higher in the frame.

You have the answer. It's the Alien's leg, standing on the landing gear. The angle makes it look weird, but that's all it is.
No special multi-limb rig was made for the scene. The only change to the suit was mounting the tail to the front rather than between the legs.
Its not the leg. Watch the motion of it. If I dropped down and pushed my leg on something my knee and leg moves down. In the scene it moves up
Your knee braced against the surface means your leg moves down
SiL is correct.
You can see both legs already curled up as the camera pans up. The body tilts down, with the backs of the legs and ankles staying nearly still and thus becoming visible. It doesn't mean anything, it's just the way it was filmed.
Ok so tell me how you can brace against a surface on a harness facing down and your legs can protrude backwards like a stork? Play the video again and slow playback down
The 'human' legs' are there in slow mo. Clearly going to brace. Then come 'unkown' apoendages
It's the ankle and leg. If you watch the scene, the alien drops like Ethan Hunt, and its feet catch on the bar. The body moves lower so the legs get more vertical. You can see in the scene the both of the legs are there, and they wobble where the end of Bodejo's heels are.
It's like if you were doing incline push-ups and for some reason decided to lower yourself into position from above. Your heels would be above your head, which is what we see here.
The actor is tilted slightly to the right side of the screen, so the alien legs are right in view. It's a guy in a rubber suit in 1979. It's just the way it worked out.
I think we might have a Kane's Sum situation here.

No, slow it to 0.25 on youtube. Bolajis legs are there but there's no way they could bend back and cone in focus like that. Its not possible. Watch it with fresh eyes and its clear.

You can see the camera in the lower left corner of the shot with the water cover over the lens.
He made it otherworldly by filming it at a weird angle that made its exact shape hard to distinguish -- hence your confusion.

There was no special rig made. What you have outlined is the foot planted on the landing gear while the rest of the body lowers further.
You wanted to know what it was, that's the actual answer. You can keep saying everyone else is wrong, but that's all there is.
PS: It's not Bolaji in the suit. Bolaji didn't like heights and refused to do the shots for the final scene. Powell is in the suit (as above!)

The feet are planted and stationary, the rest of the body moves. The torso dips lower than the feet and sways off-center, making the anatomy seem weird from the angle we see.
That's all it is. You can keep saying "no it's not", but you're only ever going to get the same answer.
There is clearly its lower body disappearing behind it. And thats not the tail as that was front facing

Watch from here until 1:09:55 and you'll see multiple shots showing that there was no special multi-limb setup, and the feet are where everyone has said they are.

So I found this clip, which shows the Big Chap swinging down on Brett. I think it provides a good view of what's going on behind the stuntman at around 02:07. Is this the clip you watched? Some of them of this extended scene are very murky.

This makes it pretty clear it's the thing's ankle and leg. The wiggling is Powell settling into place at the end of the drop. His butt's visible behind Brett's shoulder.
Still the best death (or "death") scene in an Alien film.
I found a fairly clear shot of the whole thing, lightened up as much as possible to show what's going on behind the creature's body.

Yes, but this is probably a stunt suit, not the "hero" suit that Bolaji wore most times. I rewatched your clip. That bit you circled is Powell's heel. When I watched him settle into position, you can see the back tubes shift but that heel (and it's twin to screen right) remain stable, as you pointed out.
By the way, in that same scene: Did you ever notice the mirror-images landing gear, when the camera follows Brett around the far side of the landing gear doors?

In the stills on this thread the Alien is ag least 50 to 60 degrees. That shot is not the shot over Brett's shoulder shown in the final cut. I still think you guys are proving a negative

They're really simple to understand.
They're its feet. It's really not difficult. Why are you so reluctant to accept the answer? They didn't design a suit with extra appendages for the shot. We clearly see in behind the scenes how the stunt performer was positioned.

The 'sole' explains the rounded image in the film. Its overshadowing the heel spike completely in the blurry final film shot

Look at the soles of the Alien feet. He is wearing soles. The soles cover the spikes on the heels Giger created. Those heels are what we see in the film, not Gigers heel spikes. So my argument was stupid but right all along

You said the heel spikes weren't visible in the film shot. They are. You said the photo showed why. It doesn't.
It's not even clear that's an addition. It could well be the rubber of the suit coming apart. They were notoriously fragile during the shoot and frequently tore.
