Title: Filming on Noah Hawley's Alien Series Pushed Back to September 2022
Post by: Corporal Hicks on Jan 29, 2022, 09:02:19 AM

Despite the earlier comments that Noah Hawley’s Alien TV series was looking to start production in the spring-time (and we’re aware the series was previously looking to start shooting in March in Thailand and Eastern Europe), it appears that filming has now been pushed back to September 2022, meaning that the series release will also be pushed back to 2023.

This delay comes following comments made by Noah Hawley that despite development on the Alien series “going great,” it was also “going slowly, unfortunately, given the scale of it.” As Alien vs. Predator Galaxy understands the delay, it was to allow for more development time. Filming still looks to be targeting Thailand and Eastern Europe for shooting locations.

Following on from several character information leaks, Alien vs. Predator Galaxy also have some further information regarding Hermit, a medic for Prodigy Tactical Response, the private military of Prodigy Corporation. Beware spoilers.

He yearns for the special connection that has been severed with 10-year old sister Marcy, who he believes has died of cancer. He is lost, lonely and unsatisfied in his current job, kept going only by his drive to help others. his dream of returning to medical school to fulfill the promise he made to his dying father is quashed. In the face of grave danger, we see that Hermit has been grossly underestimated and he musters the strength to be the kind of hero he has always revered (albeit on the baseball field).

It's starting to get a bit "hot" in Eastern Europe as well.

Wonder if that hasn't also factored into the delay?

Pushing production back six months means an extra six months of fake concept leaks in our future, at least! ;)

From the recent Blade Runner 2099 announcement:

QuoteNoah Hawley is behind a reinvention of Alien for FX that is in prep for a 2023 production.

https://deadline.com/2022/02/blade-runner-2099-sequel-series-ridley-scott-amazon-1234931521/

Another delay, or misinformation?

Yeah well, they ain't going to be able to film in that "Eastern European" location for the foreseeable future. They'll have to find another country that can do it for cheap, I reckon.

Could also be a typo, maybe they meant "2023 release" instead of "production".  Although filming could most likely overlap into early 2023. Raised by Wolves, season 1 took what, seven or nine months to film.

"Yeah well, they ain't going to be able to film in that "Eastern European" location for the foreseeable future."
there still isnt any reason to believe there will be any escalation of conflict, and if there is it would prevent them from shooting in only russia and ukraine, the entirety of eastern europe wont become some dangerous warzone
Armenia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Georgia, Greece, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Romania are all countries they can freely shoot in, the delay doesnt have anything to do with the political situation "there" unless they were planning to shoot in russia or ukraine specifically

*Just snipped the disrespect. We can have disagreements without insults. Hicks.

That's not how it works. If war breaks out it will have several knock-on effects. Many air-routes over the continent will be closed and Eastern Europe will likely have a massive refugee crisis on it's hands in addition the disruption of fuel and food supplies. There is also the possibility of the war spilling over into neighbouring countries.

Production companies are notoriously skittish, understandable considering that they are probably investing north of $100 million into this. If there is any threat to the stability of the country and it's infrastructure or any potential danger to the crew and cast then they will go and film it elsewhere.

Granted, a few of the countries you mentioned will probably be fine, but as we don't know where they plan to shoot, any further speculation is pointless.

QuoteBelarus, Moldova
Russian troops will be invading from Belarus and Moldova if Putin decides to go to war. It's gonna be a warzone.

something like Raised by Wolves has a proper budget without having an IP name attached to it so...
i imagine this will be much more expensive.

Given Disney's reliance on the "Volume" technology in their Star Wars shows, which I believe is also spreading into the Marvel side of things (pretty sure it was used in the upcoming fourth Thor film), I kind of have to wonder if they might utilize that technology on this series as well.

It's a pretty impressive piece of technology, in the way it allows digital set extensions to be explored/framed "in camera" right there in the moment, though in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett it also often seems to contribute to a pretty flat image a lot of the time, what with the very specific/regimented ways the subjects in front of the screen often have to be lit against it.

Take as long as they need... and do a Covenant sequel in the interim!

Ridley needs something lined up on his plate after Gladiator 2 (and potentially some episodes of Blade Runner 2099). ;)

QuoteI know you're a very busy man, but any chance of getting you back in the director's chair for season 3?

Always that possibility, because I just love to work, you know? And I'm now a month in on this [Napoleon]. I'm already a month in. I've got three months to go. I discovered a long time ago that once I've filmed something, I've got it, and I've said, "Okay, that's a wrap." I'm seeing it every day is what I've done in an editing room. Every weekend I'm watching a cut happening. So frequently, and by the way, you can only do this with a really good editor, I leave them to get on with it because then I'm seeing a cut on the weekend. And because I'm clean, I haven't been sitting in the room agonizing over a shot here or there, we think we will have a director's cut honestly five or six weeks after production, not a year. So I then realized I twiddle my thumbs, and that's why I've now decided to move on, and I can do things while things are happening. So I'm already thinking, prepping another TV show.

Well, I wouldn't personally go as far and place a correlation between the two, who knows, but the constant delays, the pressure is on, execs start getting impatient, Noah starts to get more and more frustrated with that impatience because art takes time, and then Noah walks. The ingredients are there for that same depressing recipe. Fingers crossed it doesn't become that.

same here, when I saw Alien in theaters for the 25 anniversary I thought of it incredibly old and before my time' It originally came out only a few years before I was born. I remember watching Predator and predator 2 in the 90s and relise its stars the thing from the Kenner toys having not known that predator was based on a movie before.

It's like the Avatar sequel. One feels that what looked spectacular then will look commonplace now. Similar may have happened with Matrix.

OTOH, if new viewers did not know about previous films, then what some think is old would look new to them. That might have happened with Mad Max, where they essentially rebooted the second movie and came up with something based more on spectacle.

What's intriguing, though, is whether or not they can bring back what made the earlier Alien films notable: protagonists' blue-collar backgrounds, good character development thanks to "natural" dialogue, making up for the worthwhile buildup. It's hard to do that in the current environment, which focuses on lots of spectacle and a combination of simple plots and cardboard cutout characters to address an international audience.
