I've just started reading the Alan Dean Foster novels of the original Alien trilogy and wow! I managed to pick all three up in charity shops around my home town which was pretty awesome to say the least and I was surprised by the differences. I've only read Alien at the moment but I'll start reading Aliens once I get home. Even so Alien had a few differences I was not expecting for one example the Alien in the airlock chapter was one big section that wasn't in the movie. It might have been in the original script but I haven't read that yet.
The airlock scene was scripted and half of it was shot (the stuff with Ripley and Lambert on the bridge).
The Alan Dean Foster books were based off earlier drafts of the films i enjoyed reading them myself. I originally got mine books back in 1994/5 ( i think) just to read Alien and Alien 3.
My copy of Alien has all the photos in the middle falling out.
I want a copy of Alien with all the photos in the middle :'( or even hard backs.
I have a hard back copy of 'Alien', and paperback copies of the other two.
I've also got the "Omnibus" collection as well, though, just because it's more convenient to have all the books in one big volume.
I had my Onimbus copy stolen by someone in a hostipal >:( might get another one and see if i can find a hard back copt of Alien...or the one with pictures.
Cool, I'm now on ALiens and it's freak'n awesome!

Yeah theres some nice little differences in the Aliens novel...the Alien 3 novel doesn't have the same impact now the Assembly Cuts been released. I might start to read em again myself.
Well after these I'm onto Criminal Enterprise which I can't wait for. And I do love that the changes are in these novels because I'd be slightly annoyed if they followed the film to the frame.
The differences are what got in interested in the novels in the first place. After reading them i wasn't dispointed, i used to get into trouble at school for reading them to even at break times lol
Finished them all. Wow! Not to many differences but what was there is interesting.
I couldn't undestand why ADF toned down Aliens though lol
Corporal Hicks - One of the major differences between the novelization of Aliens and the film itself was the lack of profanities in the actually novel. Why was the language removed?
Alan Dean Foster - You would have to ask Warner books. I thought it was an insult to James Cameron's screenplay. Having marines uttering childish inanities, for goodness sake! Anyone buying the book would know from the film's previews what they were in for. And of course, younger readers never encounter such...such...offensive words. Not in real life....
