did i see a flamethrower?
When?
Minor nitpick, but shame the 'Transmission terminated' doesn't look like the video snow from the film when somone gets nailed.
Did I see tail whipping (0:55)? Gearbox better limit that Alien attack. AVP2010 is already filled with tail whipping noobs. F**king annoying, that is. >:(

near the end, saw a jet of flame. must be the attachment.
why isn't it a whole loadout i'll never know. most marines were carrying incinerators in the movie.

My god, those red dots f**king blow. Last time I played the shitty AvP2010...the only fun I had was not knowing who was who on my Motion Tracker, scary shit. No suspense in this video at all.
You could tell who were your allies and enemies in AVP2010 too, at least you could in the PS3 version; the circles were enemies and the Xs were friendlies.

PS3 version f**ked up then.
QuoteGearbox better limit that Alien attack.
Why?
It's been an attack used by the Alien since the first film.
Yeah, but if you look at the AVP2010 PS3 multiplayer (don't know about PC or Xbox 360), all the Alien players are whoring that attack. Their entire strategy is to get close and then tail whip you to death. Everytime you're tail whipped, you get stunned, which creates the opening for another tail whip attack to finish you off. It's cheap and everybody who's an Alien is now a tail whip whore. Those who have played the AVP2010 multiplayer recently should know what I'm talking about.
Sounds pretty accurate when related to the films. However, in terms of game mechanics, they could dial down the damage done by the attack, or have it so you're able to catch the tail like Ripley did in Alien3 (though in that instance the Alien wasn't trying to kill her).
Or on the other - could just try shooting it before it's close enough to use it's tail. I hear that's rather effective.
Yeah, I just want them to fix the game mechanics, that's all. Also, shooting them before they get close isn't very effective since the Aliens are so friggin' fast.
well shoot more and faster. that's been the strategy since AvP'99. but if it's actually unbalanced, they could add a longer cooldown to the attack.
The Aliens in AVP2010 have more health than in AVP1999, apparently Rebellion traded away some of the Aliens' speed from their first game for more stamina against incoming bullets, plasma shots, and what not; but I your cooldown idea.

of course they did, it's impossible to be anywhere as fast with the stick and latency of a console. it would render it unplayable.
The only thing I didn't liked in the trailer is the BIG crosshair. I loved the fact the crosshair is just a dot when the first shown the demo. It was good for the immersion. Now we have a big cross almost like half of the screen :\ I hope I can turn it of. In great number of games I play without one and I don't need it really :) I saw the red dots too but I got over it. GBX decided they want the red dots, ok then, but lets not ruin other things on the way GBX ;)
Aliens don't have any ranged attack, whatsoever. It's as valid a combat option as any other. If you don't want to let them use it, then avoid letting them getting close. :)
Since it's just an attack with a tail, I don't see how a cool down time limit would be realistically justified. It's not as if Aliens would be exhausted by using one or anything. Aliens are meant be deadly and resilient if you let them get up close.
It's like how a lot of people declare 'camping' somehow wrongful, as if ambushing doesn't happen in real life. I recall playing an old game of 'Battlefield Vietnam' and getting kicked off the server, because a couple of players didn't believe I could see their legs sticking out from where they were hiding in some bushes and accused me of cheating, just because I was using common sense to defeat them.
As for the video, I can't help thinking it still looks like a slightly more polished (but more restricted) version of the last AVP game we got.
yeah, but the tail would have to charge back and coil up before striking. if the claws are swords, the tail would be a lance.
unless the game has different kinds of tail attacks such as an horizontal smack like in Alien, a quick knife-like slash with the tip, a razorwire/chainsaw effect with the spikes by enveloping or bruising, or a full stab/impale for executions. it could depend on charging or button combination, but it should take time.
i'd deffinitely enjoy if the alien had a myriad of different attacks or variations of the attacks, no matter if they are any more useful than the other, just to spice up the multiplayer.

Exactly. Its very wrong to think that aliens should be balanced. They are meant to be UNbalanced.

It's true that a tail attack is a legitimate Alien strategy, but if everyone does it all the time, the game becomes less fun up to the point where nobody plays it at all. I'm sure we don't want another failure like AVP2010 in that department.

AVP2000 and AVP2 had tail attacks that were required charging and coiling before striking, however AVP2010 had a single tail attack where whenever players clung to walls or ceilings or even jumped, they unleashed a tail attack that is just as fast as a claw attack, but more powerful with the added capability of stunning the enemy to create an opening for another attack.
I'd prefer more tail attacks (something we see in the films) than claw slashing attacks (something we don't).
But it's game. Doesn't have any bearing beyond the game.
to be completely honest, i'd replace the clawing attack with grabs and really fast biting.
i'd find it more fun to tear people apart limb by limb than act like a cat. certainly more fearsome.

anyhow, what was with that cross above one of the marines's head? was it an indicator of being severely hurt or that the guy is a medic?
Is the pulse rifle sound really off or is it just me?
Not just you. They lack the squealing flange sound.
I don't see the acid blood working.

Guy says to use the Pulse Rifle in corridors and save the shotgun for wide open rooms? Isn't that the opposite of what you should do?
Well his logic seems sound looking at how they function in the game.
The shotgun isn't using slugs so it has a large spread with each shot, so in a corridor with an alien jumping everywhere you'll hit it more. The Pulse Rifle is a rifle really, it shoots out in one direction and you can spray it but it's not that effective if an alien is constantly moving out of a line of fire, so in wide open areas where an alien has less places to avoid fire it's better to use that.
If you could use slugs and get better at spraying yeah, you'd do the opposite.
About the flamer. I noticed that this is the Ripley's PR+FT combo. Just pause the screen when the player is changing weapons at the second load out ;)

I think that's the SMG actually and what people are seeing as the flames I think is actually the smoke trail from a grenade.
Then why it have gas/fuel tube ?

Yeah.... hence my confusion when he says to use the shotgun in the open areas, but if you're going to be in the corridors that you should use the pulse rifle. What you said makes sense, but it is the opposite of what he said.
That specific map doesn't have any wide open areas, so I imagine what he meant was shotguns are good for clearing rooms, while the pulse rifle works slightly better for chokepoints/ bottlenecking the aliens in a corridor. (Automatic fire + grenade launcher.)

It might be a canister for a flamethrower attachment, but it kind of looks like a handle. But it isn't the pulse rifle/flamethrower combo.
Yep, its not :/ This guy picket that load out and it wasn't the pr+ft for sure.

Too bad the world ends this December.
But I bet they will release the demo sooner or later.
If they ever release a demo it will be a few months after the release.
It's getting samey now. I'd like to see some new maps.
Having red dots on the motion tracker still ruins the overall feel of the game to me. Still gonna get it on PC but only if mods are compatable for online play if its user side things like skins and sounds. Seriously why is it so hard for gearbox to change to colour to blue instead of red? it makes it so much more fun having allies and enemies the same colour because a part of you wants to meet up with that little blue dot incase its a lone marine. Yet the other side of you doesn't because it may be a Predator or Alien (Or in this case just an alien)
Now its like you can whip up the motion tracker and instantly know who is an enemy and who isn't. Completely takes away from the imersion.

For all we know it could be an updated motion tracker. If thats the case, I just really hope they implement them both into the game somehow.
That looks great! If only I could get my hands on that demo. Such a long wait, but It looks like it'll be worth it. :D

You might not have a choice ::).
Maybe you should wait until they show footage from the shipping build before you condemn the aliens. I expect this is pretty much a template for now. If the oddities with the alien's movements/camera are obvious to us, do you seriously think that GBX won't be aware of them. That's exactly why nobody has outright gone up to a GBX rep. and said "dude, what's going on with the xenomorphs? Was your inspiration the Grand National winner?", it's because it would be embarassing and you would look silly for asking such a question (grand national remarks aside).
Don't worry, they know what they are doing and are looking at exactly the same footage we are - have faith my child .
