I just realized how long this game has been around. Does anyone know the exact date it was released?

Guess we missed that anniversary lol
Wow, that was released on my B-Day.
Extinction for the PS2 was the last video game I ever played. Time flies.
I remember finding this game at the bargain bin at my local gamestop. I never got around to finishing it and let my cousin borrow it. I now have no idea where he is and I deeply miss and want to finish this game. Ugh..
I still have a X-Box copy of the game which I bought for my 360 years ago (since it was backward compatible). I did have a PS2 version which Fox gave to me way back at release but have no idea what happened to that. I don't even know why I got an ingame credit for Extinction since I didn't beta-test it (unlike AvP2 and Primal Hunt) and I provided no development input (like Predator: Concrete Jungle, which I didn't get a credit for).
Still, it probably would have fared much better on PC. Back when it was released, RTS games on consoles were still fledgling territory for the genre.

Ah Sadogoat, I remember seeing some of the early pictures for the marines in AvP2 on avpnews and being worried that they wouldn't have helmets. I also constantly asked you if the marines would have their helmets in the game. LOL. Sorry about that... I was probably around 12 years old.
Fun game- I hope a good developer manages to make another one. Imagine the awesomeness of it?
Yeah I hope they make a bigger variety of aliens like Predalien Ravagers, Quaraped spawned Carriers, and Gro'yte spawned Queens!
That and more numbers! I want to swarm the planet in biomechanical horrors! >:p
It was a fun distraction way back then. Was always disappointed there wasn't a PVP feature to it though.
I've always really wanted to see this concept fleshed out in a PC release.(Where RTS games were born and truly shine, imho.)
Stylistically i'd want it to go closer to a photo-real look, instead of the AvP2 inspired comic-booky look. PVP, and offline skirmish modes. Along with other game modes would be great. Things like "Infestation" "hunt" "capture the CP" and so on. Also, map editor of some sort.
Likely it'll never happen. It seems the era of experimentation has come and gone. :(
The AvP2 look fit the concept imo.
I think an RTS game would suit the AvP franchise quite nicely - I mean, Starcraft is essentially AvP right? I do agree that it should be PC based though.
I recently got my original Xbox out (my mrs wanted to play some games) in my room so I'm tempted to give AvPE another wack. I never finished it - was on the 6th level of them all.
And now it's 15 years old. I haven't played this game in so long.
& By association PredXeno is 28.

Yeah, I liked seeing stuff from AVP2 back in Extinction. To me it had best look/design from the games so far.
AVP2's look has unfortunately aged terribly, I'd love to see a remake.
You mean graphic wise? I don't really mind that much in games, I care much more about design, immersion and athmosphere. I still like "AVP2's look" on the enviromnents and creatures more than in the newer games, AVP2010 copied AVP2004 style too much, AVP2 really captured well the feeling of the original movies IMO. Only Isolation reached that level.
Still I use a few mods in AVP2, nothing like AVP Classic's redux mod, just a few minor hd and texture updates, as well as some better creatures skins that made the game better than it already was. Even in other games like Gears of War, Unreal Tournament, Dead Space... the old outdated graphics from the first games just feel much better to look at, since the design makes up for it.
I would love a remake as well, but sometimes while the graphics look more realistic they can lose the athmosphere of the original game in the process and that kind of ruins for me a bit. Franchises like Halo did it well in the remakes, but Gears of War kind of changed a few things in it's look that bothered me.
AVP Extinction would also look great with new graphics, as well as Predator Concrete Jungle. Unfortunally all those Alien-Predator related game just didn't make much of an impact outside the fanbase.
I think the original DS still looks good and will do for a long time, AVP2's style and limited polygon use along with glibs etc hasn't aged well IMO.
It's story, worldbuilding and atmosphere is still fantastic but it feels lacking in detail in the environment, and not just texturally compared to today.
I think it could do with a remake in the style of the upcoming RE2- a complete brick by brick remake.
I got my Xbox out last night to give this a shot but it wasn't reading any discs :( I've had that thing since I was a kid.
Good time to finally play it I guess. One of the few AvP games I have missed.

My ol' boy broke recently too, try a 360- AVPE & Concrete Jungle work on both of them.
Damn, Half-Life turns 20 in November and this is already 15. I am def becoming an elder at this point
Kinda feeling the urge to replay it. Gotta fire up the PS2.

This! just like in the old days when you were able to customize an RTS map in order to mimic some RPGs mechanics, such as dialogue between the party and non-player characters, experience points, quests and alternate endings :)
The game was decent fun but felt very bare-bones, it would have been better to release it on PC, i mena the campaigns were very short and once you finished them, that was it, no replay value or any other game modes.
Are there actually any other console-exclusive RTS games? Seems like a one of a kind thing as these things just don't fit together.
16 today!

I didn't feel old when I started getting a bit of arthritis, or when I started going grey... But Half-Life being twenty makes me feel f**king
ancient.
I've never even played it.
Just get the Black Mesa remake.
I will, and it looks like an ending may be on the horizon after all.
17 years.
It's also the day when Dutch and Noland were born
So I'm just gonna assume since we never hear from Dark or the elite clan again after the events of AVP 2010 they all got murked on the Xenomorph homeworld 😂
