Well I would do if the recording had worked properly.

Well they got the music right. And I like having third person for the Predator.

I didn't realise it was going to be first-person for the humans, that's cool. Though you can definitely tell it doesn't have the World's Biggest Budget.

Game-play just came and went. This was not the place to just show choppy footage and leave.

It looks fine from what we can see but everything went by so fast that I can hardly say that it looks alright. Only thing that really bugs me is the emphasis on the shoulder canon. Yeah it seems to pull more from the original film as the Predator only had two weapons in that, but there's just so much more to work with. There's the Smart-Disk, mines, the whip and even the noose. This would benefit from even including the dogs which would be an added danger to the human players.

It's otherwise fine, but I don't know why they even came out if it was just going to show some choppy footage and leave.

I agree I would have liked to see more, 5 minutes worth of footage would have been perfect imo.

The game doesn't come out till next year though and it's still in its pre-alpha stages so I'm not going to knock the footage for having an emphasis on the plasma cannon. There's still plenty of time for them to add more weapons for the predator.

Then why are you even here?

It's what we're expecting even if it doesn't have every reveal we want. Sometimes we do have to temper expectations for what is a smaller title on a smaller studio. Hunting Grounds is out of place at Gamescom, but it looks to play just fine. There's nothing wrong with that, but there is something wrong with jumping into a thread to shit on something when you don't know what you're talking about.

So far in its building stage it looks very promising to me. The music. The environments. It looks like the Predator is both 3rd and 1st person.

Agreed. I'm not worried about it the weapon situation. It's coming out next year sometime, which is a long time away.

One thing that looks like it's carrying over from AVP2010 which is great is the Predator being able to easily traverse along branches and tree tops. That's definitely a good thing as far as mobility goes.

So I may just have seen it wrong, but it looks like the Predator at the end of the trailer is different to the one at the start. I will admit that it might just be lighting, but the color of the armor is darker to the other shot and the helmet seems different. I may just be seeing things but that helmet looks like the Berserker's. Am I just crazy or is someone else seeing that?

The plasmacaster I think might also be the 2018 model. It looks smaller and the mount is wrong.

I think they just low-key revealed customization here

Sony just uploaded a pretty hefty article about the game.

https://blog.eu.playstation.com/2019/08/19/first-gameplay-footage-of-predator-hunting-grounds-unveiled/

A few select quotes while I skim read:

QuoteWe used Predator '87 for a majority of our inspiration for the game. Which we hope the gamers can see from the jungle environment, but also in the lengths we went to behind the scenes. We researched the original weapons and actually recorded them being fired in heavily wooded areas to make sure the sound and reverberation of bounding around trees and leaves was as accurate as possible in-game.

We of course take '87 and evolve with current day weapons and technology; we want the Fire Team to be able to be at the top of their game against the universe's deadliest hunter. In addition, we actually tracked down the synthesizers used in the original score.

These are just a few examples of the level of detail the team is aiming for as we create Predator: Hunting Grounds. It's been a childhood dream to work on a Predator game. The little kid in me that would play Predator in the woods with friends is beyond stoked!

QuoteWe have taken our inspiration from the '87 Predator over the other films because we believe it's the true crown jewel of the IP. We hope that fans of the films will see this game as a bit of a love letter to the film.

That being said our game takes place a few decades in the future, so we needed to incorporate all the films into the story. Gamers will see this in little reveals. For example, we have tied Stargazer from the most recent film, then added some interesting backstory between the two factions. We cannot wait for the community to get into the game and see how we have brought it all together!

QuoteWe created a system for the Predator that we call "Predkour" in the studios; think parkour meets Predator. The Predator has the ability to attack from above as well as on the ground, just like in the films. This meant we needed to create a system for the Predator to climb into the trees and move limb from limb, or structure. The Predkour system has really been the most challenging element to the game. We wanted the Predator's movement from tree-to-tree to feel effortless and make you feel inhuman with your ability to bound around the map.

This also lends to why the Predator is in third person, versus the Fire Team's first person. The third person view for Predator really allows the player to see not only the Predator, but also the paths available for the Predator to take; as well as hunt at the same time.

Bit of a clearer look at the mask:

I'm getting kind of Ahab vibes.

QuoteWe're early in developmentā€”this was all captured from a pre-alpha build, but it still gives you an idea of our vision for this project.

Also...

QuoteThat being said our game takes place a few decades in the future, so we needed to incorporate all the films into the story.

Well that's very cool for die-hard fans. Not just Predator, but Predator 2, Predators and The Predator.

Yes, me too. I'm holding out hope for a Los Angeles or City map and a Hunting Reserve Planet map - which is just another modified Jungle map so it should be relatively easy to do.

An OWLF/Stargazer base might be cool, but that may be tricky because the low ceilings would severely limit the Predator.

Well The Predator showed that even a drugged and groggy Predator can make for a decent scene so I imagine it shouldn't be too hard to turn into a level. Otherwise they could use the exterior of a compound.

There's also the capacity to balance it with the Emissary. If the Emissary are with Stargazer then the A.I could act as teammates to the Predator. It'd be a roundabout way of bringing them back and balance a match but it could work.

I shouldn't be suprised about the stargazer nod. These games usually try to have some connection with the last released movie.

I would prefer nods to even the AVP movies rather than The Predator.

Gonna be honest and say I didn't catch that the first two times around. Pretty interesting though that you're fighting Stargazer forces...maybe they've "gone rogue" and are acting on their own in this games story?

Maybe it's Borgia?
I can't think of any other organizations out of the gate that would want to take down Stargazer or know of its existence, and I'd imagine the Predator Hunters would much rather work with them.

I never got the impression IllFonic would dive into the EU for the game, just the films, but I guess it's possible. It will be interesting to find out what they mean by "canon".

QuoteWhen we looked at this IP, it was really important to us that we stayed true to the canon already created in the Predator universe, but to also move it forward. It has been really great having everyone at Fox on hand to answer questions and riff and run things by. Especially since we have been given the unique opportunity that everything we make in this game becomes a part of the official Predator lore.

Another soulless competitive multiplayer game. Another nail in the coffin for the Predator franchise. This not the type of game the series needs.

It's a pre-alpha build for a game coming sometime next year.

The team sounds passionate, and like theyve put a lot of hard work into it. Im not a stickler for sub par graphics as long as the gameplay is smooth and fun.

Just pray its not another gearbox fiasco. I think itll do decently well overall but will require the community to keep it akive if it doesnt come and go too quickly.

It wont be a blockbuster hit but will probably be average to slightly above average.

Games with these muliplayer designs dont tend to do well long term (evolve died fairky quick if i remember correctly and this is following its format mostly). But im hppeful and interested to see what will come of it.

Disappointed that the Predator is only in 3rd person.  :(
I disagree with their reasoning behind it as well. 3rd person may give you a more omniscient view around you, but they shouldn't remove the 1st person view just for that, AvP 2010's FPS Predator was my favourite part of that game. This is just an immersion breaker for me.

Ps4 exclusive with no single player is going to kill the game.

Alien and predator feel like such niche IP's that limiting the games to such an extent is a really bad idea

I'd get a PS4 to play with Voodoo.

Aww, thanks Wabbit.

But I can see it now...

I'm Jerry!
No I'm Jerry!
No I am Jerry!
I'm Jerry!
No I'm Jerry!

That's exactly how it'll go.

To be honest, I would have included "pre-alpha" in the title of the gameplay reveal clip release.

QuoteNot only is IllFonic going to be Gamescom... We're also going to PAX West! Pretty crazy how many cool gaming events there are, but we're looking forward to being there and looking at all the cool stuff that PAX has to show. For more updates on what we're doing, follow us on social media and keep a lookout for new posts on the IllFonic website at IllFonic.com

From the latest Illfonic news letter. PAX West is the last weekend of the month so there wont be any significant progress. Unsure if we'll see anything new.

PC seems mandatory for games like this one.

Yeah. I'm crossing my fingers hard that this somehow gets a PC release. I'm almost exclusively a PC person, especially for FPS. Even though this looks great, I'll probably have to just play vicariously through other people's uploads  :-\

It was never going to be a graphics heavyweight.

As long as it gets the job done and the gameplay feels great, who cares?

Can't say I'm impressed with what we've seen so far. They probably should have waited until they had a more polished trailer to show off.

The fact that IllFonic thinks reminding fans of Predator 4 will endear them to the game worries me. Of all the films to reference, why on 'od's green earth would you choose the one that completely shiz's on the franchise?

Eh, don't really have a PS4, and to be honest this isn't making me jump out of my seat to buy one which I'm sure it wasn't going to. It looks ok but I was hoping for more. To be honest not sure what I was expecting. Also why mention something from the worst solo Predator film? Also is there a definitive release date? It seems there really isn't a good time for it to be released next year because competition is fierce, with the Avengers game early in the year, more games coming out towards the end, and new consoles coming out, I think this game's life is going to be very short.

Don't have a PS4. Thinking about getting a new console, but I'm leaning towards just waiting for the next generation of consoles next holiday season. I just HAD to get a PS3 when Arkham Asylum and Ghostbusters dropped in '09. Nothing's really made me just HAVE to have one. If this was single player, I would be way more interested.
