Quote⚡ BREAKING : According to insider Daniel Richtman on "ALIEN"
💬 Phoebe Waller-Bridge is up for the role of David in the next Alien movie, Alien: Romulus. An android named Ruk."
No idea if this means that she would be David in a new "Ruk" model body, or just that Ruk would be the David equivalent of this film, since the translation here is sort of wonky...
What the f**k ?
This is very confusing. Is anyone here fluent in Russian?
Also, Ruk? Is it derived from old English "rook", or does it originate from the Thai word for "loveable", or is it just a wink to the ancient android-creating android from Star Trek 1966 named Ruk? What's the point of deviating from the A,B,C,D android name formula? Sure, Walter broke it first, but what's the point in deviating even further?
I don't mind David being able to freely inhabit different android bodies as that makes him even more threatening and scary as it makes him harder to kill. I always liked the nightmarishly uncanny idea of W-Y unknowingly being run by David, as this omnipotent AI posing as this director or executive that no one has actually met in person. Like, Ash was actually David possessing the body of an ASH model synthetic on board the Nostromo. Having Ruk as the first new vessel of David would in that sense be interesting.
Just a thought.
I'm inclined to not believe that Ruk is David, just 'cause we are looking at a translated repost here and not the original source itself (which I'd assume probably says something along the lines of Ruk being the next android in the series, following David). But hey, who knows!
Phoebe Waller-Bridge as an android in general strikes me as pretty interesting casting.

For some reason I imagine this girl being a heroine...and if she is an android, more like Call. But hey! I like plot twists😅
But aye, we better wait for confirmation ;D and as you say it may be due to the translation of the source.
Anyway it would be kinda refreshing if the protagonist is a synthetic. 8)

I can confirm that the translation NA put in his OP is quite acurate:

I'm leaning towards "she will be equivalent of David in the next movie" reading of the quote
"Rook", as in Bishop, Rook, etc.
A couple more Tweets referring back to the original Patreon source are using the "Rook" spelling, too. Seems likely that "Rook" is probably the actual spelling here, so I adjusted the thread title.

«Рук» is just how you'd spell it in Cyrillic. Pronunciation is more or less the same.
Interesting stuff, Rook was also used in one of the recent novels as well I think.
Might have been one of Alex's actually. Charybdis?
There's a Bishop model called Rook in a Bug Hunt story, and a human with that name in Dead Orbit.
Gives credence to the theory that David uploaded into Walter at the end of Covenant if this is true
Appreciate budget dictates but bit of a shame Fassbender isn't returning to the role.
Super excited and delighted though if this is actually the third prequel
It's unlikely to be David himself. I think they mean the "David role" as in "the android's role in this story".

Actually I think it was Aliens Infestation maybe?

Ah well ok if that's the case
Phoebe Waller-Bridge is a favourite of mine, she's fantastic, brilliant writer. She's be ace in this role if confirmed.

The very end of The Cold Forge. Blue's new android vehicle's name IIRC

So it could be said that the only thing in common that she may have with David is the fact of being a synthetic person, right? I ask this because you know, she might a villain too.
I do like the ambiguous characters though.
The traditional alphabetic capitalisation is probably being voided because those behind of it might simply not be aware. It's a very niche thing.
Also suspect it's nothing more than a winking homage at Bishop, arguably the most fondly embraced of all the mainstream synthetic characters, over the years.
Can't say I'm familiar with any of the actor's performances, aside from 'Solo', but she does have that weirdly androgynous vibe Call had.
I just hope she's not as annoying as a robot as she was in Solo.
:-
I'm sooo tired of androids. I swear, if I was a director of an Alien movie, there would not be any AI at all.

I don't remember what her character was like in
Solo, but she's the goddaughter of Indiana Jones in
Indiana Jones⁵. I'll have to watch that one to find out! ;D 👉👈

Yeah, I'd imagine that the alphabetic naming convention is a thing of the past, which is honestly fine by me. It was cute, but not something that really stuck out to me as being pivotal in any way. Like you said, Rook seems to be functioning as a sort of companion name to Bishop, just as Walter [Hill] was to David [Giler].
I'm more hyped up for the series than this....
Bit bored of the female heroine role in the franchise... let's switch it up and have a male hero... ripley just can't be outdone... I think they try to hard to recreate that character and I just don't feel it can be done imo.
This is a let down I'm not a fan.
Pheobe is a fantastic artist, writer and performer. If she is an android, I can see her kicking ass at the role. She could definitely do the creepy if that's what they go for with the artificial person. She could easily play it like Lance did with Bishop, making you question his motives until the end because of our past experiences with Ash. Looking forward to her being cast if true.
Very much agreed Mike.
I've only 'seen' her in Solo, but in the bonus features for that film she seemed like a really interesting individual. Looking forward to a complete sight & sound performance.
Well she is not the heroine, but an android. If anything should be more interesting than Winona Ryder of Resurrection.
I approve this
I know I'm late, but just made it to episode five of Fleabag, amazing acting from PWB.
