After finising the campaign last night . I was reflecting back on the experience
and journey i took with Amanda . And i was so amazed by it all, for me this is the best
Alien game i have afer played  i was sad it had to end. But i was glad it carried on for the time
It did !

The campaign length was one of the better parts.  Had you had to snail crawl through all of it then it would've been kind of a drag but once you figure out just walking around is as effective as creeping around and hiding the game gets pretty easy and flows much better.

Took me back to the old PC FPS which usually clocked in the high teens to complete and by the time you were done you felt like you got your money's worth, plus it had more impressive set pieces than any game in recent memory.

I didn't want it to end. I was really enjoying the experiences and stories.

ambivalent.

Most of the "length" is from the game's logistical model. If you hide, you don't use your bits but the Alien is more likely to find you.

If you use your bits, you progress an exponential amount faster, but then you run the risk of teh Aliems wrecking your shit later on through overuse amping up the statemachine.

I've played twice, neither on anything other than hard, but everyone I've talked to who had played medium or easy have pretty much finished within 10 hours by hiding or about 7-8 hours by using gear. a 60% drop in time spent is a pretty big deal, though the same would have been said of Halo's legendary mode.

Also the length is given by essentially using every story-theme the universe has presented... again, so after Marlowe you're pretty much playing a variation on a theme within an already given theme.

The game is atmospheric and fun enough to justify the contextual padding, but it's still pretty clearly padding, especially when shown against the DLC and Survival.

I predicted that people would overhype this simply based on FINALLY getting a non shitty Alien game from the current vendor, and I think >most< of the hype is deserved, it's still kinda fitting that line, honestly the replay value for anyone other than a rabid fan is low.

So whilst people here would hazard ARMARGAR I WIL PLAY FOR AL TEH TIMES EVERY TIME 4EVARS, I'm pretty sure in average gaming circles this game will simply be a super polished mobile monster closet you play once and move on, and maybe come back to every chunk of years if nostalgia and time permit.

Got to say as much as I enjoyed the game I did kind of drag and felt like it was dangling the carrot in the final third of the game. I felt like I was getting some where then boom something else cropped up . I dont think I could replay this any time soon but that's not to say I didnt enjoy it because I loved it.

Generally, I like long games. With Alien Isolation though, the campaign could have been shorter, especially the mid-game.

"Guess what you get to do next, Amanda??"
"Start yet another generator...?"
"That's right! Isn't that exciting!!!??"
"K-kill.... me..."

Compared to other games that include multiplayer I think it's a decent length, expecially for the money. A good meal out for two would cost more and you're only gonna sh!t that out the next day. That's how I justify the price of games vs the amount of enjoyment I'll get from them anyway. It was just right I think.

I'm so happy that this game is not another lazy "10 hours demo". The length of over 20+ is perfect. Like in the old days  ;)
Of course, you can play on easy mode and rush through it with intense use of gear and firepower, but you will miss out something.

I was happy with it being an arduous long old time, as it ought to be given the context. The backtracking didn't feel forced, but logical to the environment. It's the blurry line that causes the problem - at what stage should this be more 'actually trapped in this station' or 'trapped with game logic'? I was happy to feel frustrated, as it felt as though that was what Amanda would be feeling too - my emotional response was never at odds to the protagonists. I don't know if that makes for great gaminess, though, and yeah - it's not going to be a game you'll play over and over. Neither is it one you'd never come back to, though.

Blah. I don't know, I was good with the length!

I think I'm only about halfway through at the moment, but should that turn out to be the case, I think it's a decent length. I hate the tendency for games today to be stupidly short, but obviously with Isolation the gameplay is inherently fairly repetitive. So I think they probably got the balance between those two about right.

While, I usually prefer my games to be longer, there were some sections in the game that just seemed to drag on forever. Mostly the parts regarding Working Joe's.

I finished it first on Hard difficulty just to play the game the way it was meant?
And then I decided to do it in easy to actually get all the little details of the campaign.

I'm going to be honest, you can divide as Xhan said by 3 the time it takes you despite the fact you're wandering around searching for things you could have missed the first time.
It's also almost impossible to die by the alien in easy.

I also support what Xhan said about replay, I thought it was an "okay" game.
It's not a bad game, it's just I see absolutely NO replay value at all.
I'm done with this game, it was fun but there aren't much to explore and discover.

Length wise it was absolutely fine, in terms of hours. In terms of engaging hours it had a couple of drawn out sections, for example before getting to the core and having to go through areas full of Joes - felt like padding. Overall it's totally forgivable though.

They would have really needed to focus more on the story & characters to keep it engaging for longer.

How many hours on average was Colonial Marines? Because I thought that game dragged.

Took me 4 hours.

For me personally it does have reply value. I didn't spend a huge amount of time searching and exploring as I was scared of the Alien and trying to complete the game. I only found one Nostromo log, and I can't wait to really experiment with the item crafting and using different techniques to out smart the Alien. And that's not to mention Survivor mode.

I want to play The Evil Within but atm it stands no chance with how much I'm still enjoying A:I.

That being said I have plenty of friends who only ever play a game once but they spend their time exploring everything first time round where as I like to enjoy the story first and concentrate on that later. Everyone's different, but I'll be playing this for quite some time to come.

Colonial Marines dragged because there was zero tension.

The same cannot be said of Isolation.

Rubbish, I managed to get killed plenty by it, particularly on the scimed level. Had a much easier time in there on hard. I think the randomness of the alien makes it different for everyone.

4 hours on the hardest difficulty solo, about 2/2.5 hours with 3 other players (most of which is cutscene or a forced stall). You can literally speedrun through the Aliens to checkpoints; three of the weapons will one shot cameraliens or three shot giger aliens, so there's that.

I liked the length mostly. But as others said, there's some parts that needlessly drag on a bit.

One problem especially I found was later on in the game, around the time of the reactor core, with the amount of androids. By that point in the game I wasn't interested in them anymore, I wanted to progress more with the story, and it became tedious to constantly deal with androids over and over again when I just wanted to move on.

I'm glad it wasn't a 4-6 hour campaign and had some meat to it, but it did feel like it dragged on for a bit too long.

who wants a short game?

I want my money's worth.

Short games are like going to an amusement park where there are only two rollercoasters

Nobody but more does not necessarily mean better, which is clear as day in certain segments of this game.

My only complaint was the lack of direction about certain things.  Took me f**king forever to find out how to slow the Apollo defense network down because of the lack of direction.  I kept walking the wrong way past the monitors in the tubes and the prompt would never show.

The androids never bothered me because they were killable and because they basically just take the place of the alien with even less mobility.

Exactly my thought, like in the old days mate ;).

Thats what i also loved about it just that those +20 hours were well designed and kept you thanks to the humans and synths always on your toes while the ever looming threat of the Alien was omnipresent ;).

It perfectly fits for an Alien game and definitly is well worth the money i have dished out for my Ripley Edition ;).

Even though i agree with the part that certain areas dragged on a bit you still have to understand that you will never see so much canon in a movie like in this one game alone ;). For me personally this game is very much an addition to the canon of the Alien universe as it after all represents the time between the incidents of Alien and Aliens in a thorough manner and this game delivered over +20 hours of content. No movie could do this and the best is we personally could experience it and feel the way how Ripley on the Nostromo must have felt herself when fighting the Alien. A big plus for me :P ;).

So yeah, for me it was still worthwhile and even though i have finished the dlcs and play currently a bit survivor it will of course not keep me forever at the game but definitly allow me to play the game on whenever the new dlcs arrive and probably even put me in the mood of replaying the original story to get back into it ;).

Perfect length for Alien fans. A bit too long for everyone else. I can definitely see how for other folks the game could lag, but I was captivated the whole time. I do really hope there is story based DLC.

I'm up to Mission 12, probably spent around 22 hours on it so far playing on hard.
It's superb, really enjoyed it so far. I've taken my time with it creeping around, mainly to look at the excellent game environments they've created and of course dodging the Alien and the Androids.
I have enjoyed the length of the game and don't feel it's been excessive.

I thought the length was perfectly fine, and I appreciated the wearing effect it had on me. Instead of annoying, I found it, like Ripley backtracking in the final Nostromo sequences of ALIEN, feverish, dread-inducing, and emotionally exhausting (which Amanda reflects perfectly).

Just completed marathoning the game in 18 hours, clearing it from chapter 5 to the end. The pacing was awesome for me from that chapter, with the Alien keeping you on your toes, and that breath of air once its done. The tension was very well played throughout the game, and I felt that it was just perfect, like the old games (System Shock 2), where though the games are long you do feel the immersion of the world. And the logs lets you feel that events are happening around you as you go through the game outside of your perception, and that you are not really isolated...
At the end, everyone on Sevastopol station dies except for Ripley, and that really ties in with the idea of the first film that the Alien in one deadly species.

Overall, the length was really good for me, and its definitely GOTY to me.

I played it through on hard and I think the difficulty and lenght were about right.. But that one bit towards the end where you were in the airlock just about to go outside to detach the ship from the station when the alien came along and dragged your ass to the hive and then you just woke up and made your way back to airlock... I think that little episode felt like it could have been cut from the game...
