We're on the verge of Halloween so I'll ask you, when was the last time a horror movie / TV series / video game / book scared you?

Edit - If nothing ever scares you, no problem.  ;)

Dead Space back in 2009 I believe although I'm not really sure.

(Actually also Alien Isolation)

Depends whether jumpscares count, I guess. Generally that's just a loud noise rather than ambience or dread though.

That sounds like, highly rich in atmosphere, slow burn horror vs. jumpscare horror in movies.

Dead Space scares more than Silent Hill games?

I've never played indie games, but this retro-looking one looks creepy.

Yeah but I'd argue jump scares just use sudden noise/light to startle rather than maneuvering you into a state of fear.

The first thing seems to do a reflex action to avoid a dangerous situation. The second sounds like something 100% psychological.

This short makes me legitimately uncomfortable

Also, the first episode of Black Mirror. The one with the pig

Black Mirror just makes me angry to the point I can't enjoy it at all.

BlueMarsalis79

I really love it. Oh and yeah Silent Hill 2 and 3 for sure.

[cancerblack]

I'll freely admit that (at least the UK seasons) are high quality stuff. But it ultimately feels like misery porn to me in the end, and between that and the ideas it touches on, I'm too angry/revolted to get anything out of it. You could say it's too effective on me I guess.

I didn't have any incline to watch BM after that first episode, tbh

Immortan Jonesy

Black Mirror's uncanny valley?

Regarding quality, for some reason I can't take US episodes seriously in the same way as UK episodes.

It takes a science fiction angle after that first one.

No. I just don't like it for the same reason I don't like the other things that over-indulge misery or anxiety - I have plenty of my own, thanks.

Having said all that, I really did like Metalhead. And f**k the purists who say it's the worst of that season for being conventional.

BlueMarsalis79

Metalhead's alright, Shut Up And Dance and San Junipero are the best.
