QuoteLegendary Encounters: Predator will also be releasing at Gen Con. Upper Deck licensed the property in 2013 in an agreement with 20th Century Fox that also included Alien (see "'Alien' Deck-Building Game").
Then Jason Brenner posted this on BGG: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/article/18402175#18402175 (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/article/18402175#18402175)
Quote-This is a core set similar to ALIEN
-The game will focus on the first two films
-You will be able to play as the Predator And the Humans from each film
-It will contain anywhere from 600-700 cards
-It will have its own play mat
-It will be 100% compatible with ALIEN
Apparently more information is supposed to come out today.
Sounds great! I am definitely excited and will be getting it whenever it comes out. ;D

Oh boy, I'm going to have a blast figuring out how to combine alien and predator. 1 pred player, 1 alien player, 2 humans. Should be fun.
Not that I plan on getting this anyways, but it's pretty dumb not to include Predators unless they plan on putting out an expansion at a later date.
Indeed. They included all the Alien films in that release. However, considering that they're only using the first 2 films there is a lot of cards - just about as much as Alien - in that release.
Oh sick nasty. Great post Rakai! I lol'd myself silly.
Predator is going to be 100% compatible with Alien according to Jason.

Want... Want so badly... Want so I can hunt Aliens and Superheroes!
Gonna give this a miss. Love the Alien game, but Predators don't interest me.
I hope the Predator deck - if it's implemented the same as the Alien - has varied artwork this time.
Agreed. As excited as I was by the prospect initially, the art ended up being one of the most disappointing things about the base Encounters for me. The art for the Alien characters and events was great, but everything beyond that was varying degrees of naff, and some images were painfully overused.
Quote from: Mr. Domino on Apr 07, 2015, 08:22:39 PMsome images were painfully overused.
'Flesh Wound'! :D
That was a wonderful image though. But for those it seemed quite reasonable. But for the cards that you should be able to recognize at a glance it's annoying - i.e stuff that goes into a deck.
I agree there were some images that were not as good as others, but nothing that harmed my opinion of the game or its mechanics.
Not at all. Just aesthetics, really.

QuoteHey folks, looking over some of these forums and I see a lot of speculation. So I wanted to shed some light so people know exactly what top expect from this game.
1 - The game is coming to the end of the testing phase and we have played the hell out of it. I can say two things. A: UBER FUN! B: UBER different from ALIEN(But allow me to explain that one before you panic.see point #4)
2 - The game focuses on the first two films Predator 1&2 only
3 - Each game allows you to play one of two ways.
4 - You can play as the humans from both films and you can play as the Predators. Here is what that means. For Predator, you can play the co-op version the same as you did in ALIEN. You will recruit the same way, scan and attack the same way. There are objectives and everything feels just right. When you play as the "Predators", Plural, each player assumes the role of a predator hunting for the most honor (Vp's). This mode is full PVP.
5 - The second film plays the same way
6 - Once you are done playing this way, which is going to take a very long time to get through the content, feel free to take that Predator Deck and put it in the ALIEN game or vice-verse, because these two games are 100% compatible.
7 - You now have the payoff....
http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1356087/lert-more-facts (http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1356087/lert-more-facts)
All sounds fantastic, although it's hard for the lack of any Predators content to not feel like an EA-style DLC-withholding.
I don't know why they haven't included that. I feel like it's probably likeness issues somewhere. Some sort of legalities to it.
We've seen some of the card art but here's our first look at the entire card -

Rakai will be happy - they're using Yautja.
I know they mentioned being able to play Predators and it looks like it's been implemented in a similar way to the usual characters, rather than an after-thought like the Aliens. Be interested to see it playing.
Trying to make sense of some of the new keywords.
Looks awesome though, I'm still waiting for an alien barracks deck to have the full experience this game can offer. Rumor is the alien expansion has been pushed back to 2016, anyone confirm or deny?

They all seem to be in that first image. Lethal seems pretty self explanatory. Duel must be the mechanic of the Predator player - something to do with fighting other Predators or human characters. Activate could be anything though.

The one thats got me wondering most is "attaching gear" I have a feeling there will be a "gear" deck (maybe in place of Sargents) that offer small buggs to human characters.

QuoteI wandered around the dealer room for a few hours. The first game I sat down to play was the latest incarnation of the Legendary deckbuilding system based upon the films Predator and Predator II. This game differs from previous franchise entries in that you may play as humans vs. guerrilla fighters and predators, or predators vs. various humans. The predator camouflage ability is handled well.
They also sell a small overpriced adaptation pack of cards to change around a few of those in Legendary Encounters: An Alien Deck Building Game so that you can merge elements to play Aliens vs. Predator scenarios.
It's a worthy entry in Legendary and I expect I'll buy it, but they really could have thrown in the adaptation pack instead of charging another $10 for it.
The "GenCon" special is a free pack of "Legendary" card protectors, useless unless you buy another couple hundred identical protectors.
From GenCon.
Apparently the adaptation pack is just a reissue of cards from Alien with adjusted wording for compatibility with Predator (this text is in the Predator rulebook anyway).

So generally useless?
I mean, this should have just came with the core game anyways. But as a standalone buy... i'll pass. Ill just read the rulebook.
It's just a $10 thing for people who want the ease of the changed card text. Nothing breaking.

Don't really know tbh. Think they said it might be sold after the event.
This has been pushed back to the start of September apparently.
Any lists of retailers that will be receiving the Predator card set?
Any typical FLGS I imagine. I don't think there's any exclusives or anything. But if you struggle to find it in person you'll find it abundance online.
Another review. http://www.beastsofwar.com/featured/encounters-predator-review/
Going to have to buy more sleeves!!! I sleeved up Alien Encounters and I couldn't recommend it more. Normal Ultra Pro sleeves of any color will do. Just make sure you purchase all of the same type, don't mix and match brands/old sleeves because it will be obvious upon shuffling that they are different!
I did the same for Alien. I went all black. Took me an age to do. xD

Alternate art playmat is up on the Upper Deck store.
If i can just get an alien playmat (blank) i would be so happy. Would use it for every game of magic i play.
Rumor is that its delayed again? Any truth to this? I've been waiting so long :(
Twas a week or 2 delay, I believe.
Heard about another delay, From mid august, to sept 2nd. (first delay) Now they are saying second week of september.
Haven't heard about that one, I'm afraid. To be fair I'm just waiting for that message from my FLGS that says they're in.
Looks like I'll be picking my copy up this Saturday. ;D Very excited.

Hate you too! ;D
As promised, I am posting results of the first game. It was played with my wife and 2 cousins (4 people total). We played the original Predator film as the Humans fighting the Predator.
It absolutely kicked our asses.
To sum up the nonsense that resulted in never completing Objective 1, we were forced to consistently pay 4 Strike to Scan the leftmost "The Wilds" space with Objective 1 attached to it, only to find ourselves each out of resources to never fully complete it. For those that don't know, Objective 1 reads "Locate and Destroy the Guerilla Camp." Once you locate the card in the Enemy Deck, it attaches itself to a space in "The Wilds" and to destroy it, you must clear the space and spend 1 strike point to discard it and complete Objective 1. Simple right?
The trouble is the Event cards...you move the Camp one space to the right each time an Event happens, meaning the cost goes up to scan it from one section to the next and maxes out at 4. Between a mix of dumb Damage cards ripping cards out of our hands and having too few strike cards to deal with the camp PLUS whatever is underneath it PLUS 1 strike to get rid of it, we were subsequently destroyed. And we loved every minute of it! Can't wait to give it another crack.
Finally got mine on Saturday. Finishing sleeving up and sorting yesterday. None missing. Going to my buddies tonight to have a play. Can't wait. ;D

Good luck and post results dude!
We played 2 games as humans, playing Predator. Lost both. First time we fluked it into Objective 2 but couldn't finish it. Second time we couldn't even get past Objective 1. We played a game as the Predators, I lost by 2 points. :-\ He'd been duelling me from the start so I was pretty bad off early on.
Really enjoyed it. The core mechanics are obvious to you if you've played Alien but it still feels very different. There's a lot of emphasis on helping each other out to get the Call For Back-Up bonuses which is harder with 2 players.

Agreed. I hope to play some more tomorrow night with a friend of mine.
I'm glad you enjoyed it (and got past Objective 1)! Btw, you know you're going to have to do a Podcast on this game in the near future!
PRJ reporting in on recent Predator game...
Had 2 of my buddies over last night. The three of us found objective 1 enormously frustrating to beat. It feels like we never have enough resources to complete it. We did get to Objective 2 (finally) but by then we were taking up to 3 strikes a turn. Needless to say, we were defeated.
So we had a game night at Shevvie's on Saturday. Did a few games of the X-Com board game (really addictive) and we tried the Predator mission of Legendary. Got spanked again! This expansion just seems so much harder this time around!
Completely agree. I'm doing another game night tomorrow eve so I will be sure to report the results. I will be adding some more "Drone deck" equivalents to see if it helps.
It's already scaled up to add more than Alien isn't it?
Not having played Alien in a bit, which I am displeased to admit, but it's roughly the same. It recommends more "Young Blood" cards per deck per player, scaled up only for the second and third minidecks. I believe the Alien game only wants the same number added to each deck based on players.
UPDATE!:
My 2 friends and I played the Predator movie game tonight. We actually, by the skin of our teeth, won. We did it. We "Got to the Choppa!"
We each were within 1 damage point from death. We were just able to coordinate and draw high power cards to keep the Wilds from getting full and pushing enemies into the combat zone.
Next week, we play Predator 2 and I can't wait!
Congrats! Do you normally play 3 players?
Quote from: Corporal Hicks on Oct 16, 2015, 07:20:39 AM

Thank you! ;D The first couple games I played, only two players. We got wrecked. 3 seems to be the sweet spot yet again. However, if I had the numbers, I'd go full 5.
Anyone else having similar experiences? Sound off!
I've only had the chance to play 3 games - 2 with 2 players and 1 with 3. We definitely got further with 3 players.
Played another round of Predator last night with my 2 friends, running the Predator 2 human campaign. It went from 0-60 real quick. Each of my friends got taken out and I held out for several rounds as we completed all but the last objective. The first obj was surprisingly difficult due to the random element. By the time we completed it, we were deep into obj 2 and had found all the clues before so we instantly completed the second obj and that's when the fun really began.
All in all, thoroughly enjoying this game. Hope to beat Predator 2 next week! It crushed us round one, so we all have scores to settle.
Holy shit! We actually managed to complete a game of co-op last night! My buddy and I decided to give Predator 2 a go. It was hard, still, but we managed the game a lot better and seems like the Predator 2 cast were more useful than the Predator one. Really enjoyed it.

Sweet man. I have yet to host another game night... life has gotten in the way and a few cancellations on both parties part but will hopefully get a game in tomorrow with the family. My cousins are 14 and 18 and they love the game.
And just beat Predator! Different group of friends (3 players in total) this time around. It looked like it was going bad and then we cleared out a nice swatch. It kept swinging that way but we had some really lucky moments. One particular player took all the marks and me and the other kept drawing all the Events that triggered off marks. One player kept surviving by the skin of his teeth. It was a really funny, well worked and very lucky match!
Now to try more of the competitive side! And I still need to buy some proper sleeves and not use the flimsy cheapo ones I'm using now.

Best get the ultra pro colored matte sleeves. Bought them in 50/100 packs. Really nice feel and color coded is absolutely necessary lol
Will definitely be getting Ultra Pro. They're what I always use for card game (they're what my Legendary Alien is in). Just tends to cost a nice chunk for a big box like this so I use those cheap penny ones until I get around to buying the proper sleeves.

Def a wise choice. Hate for a great and very limited game get ruined by heavy play when all it takes are a few millimeters of plastic to protect them.
I feel as though this thread hasn't had much attention lately. Is anyone else still playing? Let's hear about it!
Just come back from my buddy's house. We did a 2 player vs. game as the Predators. It was a fair bit slower but still quite enjoyable. I'd love to give it a go with more players, see how it goes.
Whoever did this waited until late last night, made that video by hand, and then got by the AVPG guys to post it. Maybe you oughta give him a job, put him on the payroll.
Glad to hear you've been enjoying it Voodoo, and congrats on the video! It really is such a great game. And you got the exclusive mat too! I can imagine that must have cost a fair bit extra, given how much the base game is going for on the secondary market these days.
Have you gotten to play any PVP Predator matches yet (or just Predator games with more than one player)? I've only ever done solo Predator matches, which have always ended up being a bit too easy since they kinda seem designed to have multiple other players there screwing you over to add to the difficulty.
I'd love it if they put out a Predators expansion, but I've kinda given up hope that it'll ever happen at this point. I know the Covenant one for their Alien game came out not that long ago, but I figure if we were ever going to see one for this we probably would have by now.

Appreciate it brother. I wouldn't have taken it upon myself to do this if we hadn't talked about the game that one night, so thanks to you!
The second play mat only ran me $19.99 - so roughly 17 pounds for you? - not too bad.

Yessssss! Predator PvP matches are where it's at. It turned out to be my favorite way to play the game.
Even when dead, the Predator with the most honor points wins, so you are constantly gauging how your opponent is doing. You may be dueling your opponent, trying to take him out cause you've been winning in honor points the whole game so far, and next thing you know he's holding on by a thread but gets a big kill, and then you realize
oh shit, if he dies now he wins! So not only can't I kill him, but I need to protect him and keep this guy alive or he wins! It adds a wild component.

Glad I could be a bad influence in a good way! :D That's less than I would have thought for that alternate map, especially seeing as the game is out of print now. I would have thought it'd be one of those really hard to find items that were extremely overpriced, so good that you were able to get it without having to break the bank (especially given how much the game itself costs now).

That sounds really cool! Needless to say I've not experienced any of that since you can't really do multi-Predator matches solo (well I guess you
can, but you'd be playing against yourself ), but that definitely sounds like a great mechanic that's not present in the PvE human side of the game. Would certainly add a whole new dimension to the game, for sure!
Hmm. If you still want to experience it, I can see playing two Predators in a single player match working but one avatar is clearly you and the other is clearly an AI opponent. I think that would work, but you would have to be able to play completely honest with yourself, as in fair & brutal during every opponent's turn and try your best to f*ck yourself up. A what-would-I-do counter.

I think I recognize his voice - it's that guy that constantly hates on ADI Preds, Ugh, can't stand him

Looks like there is actually a fan-made variant for playing solo with other Predators on BGG.

I'll also say, if you have Tabletop Sim on PC, there's a well made scripted version of this on there, where im sure you could find some other players
