Not sure why House of Gucci is classified under "Best British film"? Aside from the director being British, it is an American, Hollywood studio film that was shot in Italy. Spencer is conspicuously absent though...

And of course The Last Duel got snubbed.

I don't know criteria (there must be some rules) but Scott Free is British-American film production company, maybe that's why. I don't think that location of the film matters. Thelma & Louise and American Gangster were also nominated for best BAFTA film.

The fact that The Last Duel was completely ignored puzzles me. Ridiculous.

Yeah, people in the know were saying that The Last Duel was going to be snubbed during awards season because of it's box office. Looks like they were right.

Ingwar

Which should not be relevant and is also strange as Last Night in Soho's box office is 23.1 million. Less than Duel.

Yeah, although Last Night in Soho only cost $43 million to make, so it's not quite the box office nuke that The Last Duel was.

Last Duel made $30 million on a $100 million budget.

But I don't care about awards, I can like or dislike a film irrelevant of how many Oscars it won. :)

Ingwar

Likewise. All I want to is enjoy the movie.

There is a lot of politics in award ceremonies. But as you said, I don't care either about them. On the other hand it's nice when movie you like gets recognition.

But they're both box office bombs - does it matter to which degree ?

Ingwar

It shouldn't at all. Movie should be evaluated on its merits not its box office but it is what it is.

Nothing for Last Duel though  :'(

The Last Duel - 86% RT gets snubbed with zero nominations.

The Green Knight - 89% RT gets snubbed with zero nominations.

Don't look up - 56% RT gets several nominations including best picture.

Just shows you what a farcical shitshow the Academy awards have become.
