Via CBR, Hunters is getting a sequel starting in August!

QuoteFirst up is Predator: Hunters II, a sequel to the 2017 miniseries. Like the original, it'll be written by Dark Horse Senior Editor and Predator veteran Chris Warner, this time joined by artist Agustin Padilla (Francisco Ruiz Velasco illustrated the first Hunters) story. The series is set to debut in August.
Here's the official description of Predator: Hunters II: "Since the beginning of time, Predators have come to Earth from their home among the stars to stalk and kill the strongest of humans for sport. But now the tables have turned, and a group of human hunters has set their sights on the Predators. But they soon find out they are competing with a mysterious government agency that is after the same prey. The hunt is on, and only the strongest and smartest will survive!"
Yeah, that's a Super Predator on the cover. I'm excited!
Love that cover.
Colour me excited.

Has that been confirmed anywhere? Didn't see Stradley comment on it.
Awesome news, though! Thanks for sharing! Really dug Hunters and one of the things I said about the last series was that it felt like a pilot episode so happy to see them continue with the story!
Missed last years, will look for tpb
If only the Predator from the new movie looked anywhere near as good as the one on that cover.
Sweet cover, not sure if its a super pred though.
This should be cool, has anyone seen the artists work before?
Really looking forward to this
Looks cool. Glad they're changing the artist. The last one was too cartoony for my taste.
Been a while since I watched the 2010 movie, and after some googling to refresh what a Super Pred actually looked like, I think I got a bit too excited. But it's still a badass cover.
Rev44- yeah agree! Dark Horse understands the character... 20th Century Fox obviously doesn't
Wicked Cover....not something I'd want to tangle with.
Yesh that cover is badass, very cool.
If the movie doesn't turn out well, at least we still have the books!!
Sweet, I liked Hunters so I'm glad we're getting a follow-up!

Don't read this one then. Personally, I think Hunters acted as a nice pilot. Apes off OWLF and Stargazer quite well and I'm happy to see them take the concept further.
I love it...so I'll read it.
Nothing beats humans hunting and killing predators. This kind of out-of-the-box concept will revive the franchise and rake in the cash. Mark my words...
Sounded sarcastic.

QuoteOkay, so it isn't exactly reinventing the wheel, but Predator: Hunters II does exactly what it needs to. If you enjoyed the first series you'll absolutely love this one, and it's a lot of fun to watch Warner, Padilla and Menon working cohesively together to provide another solid entry into Dark Horse's rich Predator history.
Rating: 4/5.
First review for #1 is in.
Just read it.
As with the first series, it doesn't break any new ground but like the first series, the character work is good. I really enjoy these characters. A couple of points here also have me interested.
Spoiler
there is a nice little reference to the original film which has me excited.
Who is the character that Soames sees and gets all cagey about. Dutch? Probably not.
The artwork is Kentucky and detailed. The predator looks great (in his traditional/classic appearance here)
I would honestly be happy if this series was an ongoing.
An all round solid Predator comic.
Just finished issue 1. Solid issue that has me thoroughly hooked!
I wonder if those randomers are Stargazer??

Spoiler
do you mean the guys comparing the crater/explosion site to the one I 'Predator" ?
I do. Seems like the right time to try to tie in.
Yeah, I agree.
Spoiler
could easily expand a little and show links to Owlf and progression from that, to Stargazer. Some references to the 2nd film as well would be great.

Very possible although they may have something to do with the guy Jaya saw in Afghanistan that made her comment that "their timetable just got shortened".
So I decided to re-read "Nemesis, Bad Blood, Big Game, Blood on Two Witch Mesa and Hunters. I noted that Mandy is ex CIA and Nakai is ex military (as is Swain). We know Stargazer is a military and CIA collaboration project. I noticed in "Big Game" one panel had a calendar which marked the year as 1996 (though it released in'91). The military would've been very interested in Predators after catching a ship that went nuclear taking out an entire army base. Meanwhile during "Bad Blood" Claude Loudermilk has the CIA attempting to capture a Predator. No mention of OWLF in "Bad Blood" which leads me to believe it took place before 1997 (Predator 2). Probably took place in 1994 the year the series was released and perhaps prior to the formation of OWLF (although this is all just speculation). In "Blood on Two Witch Mesa" Nakai is offered to work for the Defense Department (most likely CIA) he then comments in "Hunters" that they(CIA) were only interested in the Predators' tech whereas he(Nakai) just wanted to kill them so he left. So Nakai May have been part of the OWLF at some point.
Another possible team of "Hunters" would be the organization from "Hell & Hot Water". All we know about that team is they aren't governmental.
Any chance of this being re-released in a big omnibus with parts 1 & 2 together? Also, have they hinted at part 3?

Nothing thus far. That's not to say that we won't see that sort of collected edition and a third part. At the moment it's just a TPB for the first series
Will probably just get the TPB-s then.

Loving this so far, I hope they'll keep moving forward with the series after Hunters 2.
Just got finished reading issue 2.
Good stuff, more set up than anything else but its well done. A couple of interesting teases.
One thing in here that i know some will appreciate,

Looking forward to next issue.

Wahey. I was right. I feel like perhaps it should have had an early release to coincide with the film's release a little better because of that but hey ho. It's still building momentum with #2 but I'm continuing to enjoy. I really do dig the artwork for this run.
The art has a gritty, almost aggressive look to it. It suits the story really well.

hope we get some more movie continuity nods

Yup you called it! And I agree Russ that the art is really illustrating the grit of the Afghani desert. So far so good with this series. Next up "The Predator" (so excited to see it!)

Continue to like the art with these. Just goes so well with the series, imo
It looks like
Spoiler
we'll be seeing the surviving Predator from the first series!
I'm glad to see the quality of art still looks high!
Issue 3 is a fun read and has some really great images. There is an awesome splash page of the Predator which is one of the best i have seen in a comic.
I cant see this story being fully tied up by the end of next issue so we should hopefully be getting 'Hunters III'
Isn't it another 5 issue run?
I thought so but this issue say part 3 of 4.
Unless that's a typo.
Issue 4 is released in November and we have had solicits for December and January with no mention of a 5th issue.
Oh, that's a shame.
I like the art. Especially of the Pred shredding those soldiers.
Maybe theyve done a Colonial Marines with the series lol
But yeah the art of #3 was fantastic.
Awesome issue!
Spoiler
Stargazer got their asses handed to them haha
I really like the idea of preds being the source of different cultural legends. With the Pred being referred to as a Jin in the Middle East, the monster from the Navajo's Hero Twins story, an Oni from Japanese legend, Spring Heeled Jack, and the Hindu Rakshasa.
I'm still really enjoying this series and look forward to the final issue! (Also thought it was 5 issue run but apparently not).
The art of II is excellent compared to I
I caught up with the series last night and I'm still enjoying it. I feel like one issue left isn't going to be enough to wrap it up, though. Hopefully I'm wrong and it all pans out nice. The artwork in this is just f**king amazing, though. It's so brutal. I love it!
How about that awesome Splash page in there Hicks?
It's great isn't it.
I'm not such a huge fan of the art. Better than the first series but it all feels so blocky and angular, if that makes sense.
I feel the same. The predator looks nice, but I'm not digging the rest of the style that much.
Prediction: Hunters III
Give us a fifty page finale please!

Anyone know why issue 4 has been delayed for so long?
Its quite common actually.
Usually due to art not being turned in afaik.
I like Hunters II better than the first one. The art is certainly great.
Part 4 due January 9 on amazon
Issues 4 is nice ending to Part 2.
Spoiler
we get a good character death and an all but confirmation of a part 3.
As with the first series, I really enjoyed Hunters 2. I did love the artwork for the first run but I think I preferred this one. Padilla and Menon did a fantastic job on the artwork. I just love how raw it looks. There's some f**king great panels of the Predator in here too.
I thought it was a nice arc for Swains. It definitely feels like another episode in a longer running show as the others didn't get a great deal of attention here. I really hope this Hunters concept keeps going. I think it's what Predator needs at the minute.
Solid final issue and I liked how the Predator was dealt with. Looking forward to the next installment of this series. Hicks said it best that each entry feels episodic and I want more!
Spoiler
Considering Herrera was saved by Stargazer I'm intrigued to see how that will play out in the next one.
Not going to lie...
That was a bad*ss finale. One of the best predator comics ive read, this issue was great and it finally sold me on the art. I loved it! ;D

This series is just f**king rife with gorgeous Predator moments. There's so many amazing splash pages in this!
This last issue had some amazing panels.
Can't believe a comic can do more right than the last 4 films with a predator in it combined.

Although we may get a recurring human baddy with the leader of the Stargazer unit whom Soames recognized. I'd like to see what her involvement/relationship with Stargazer has been. They could also elaborate on Enoch's time with the government as well.

Our new poddy is about Hunters 2 and it's up now! ;D
You beauty. Always look forward to these pods.
Can't say I'd be excited for Hunters 3. They did nearly the same exact story for Hunters 1 & 2, with nearly the same ending. Writers need to start doing stories that don't rely on the tired crutch of humans vs Predator, it ends the same way nearly every time, some humans die, but the Predator is killed by the last few survivors. What's the point of reading these comics or watching future films if we already know how it's going to end? The first Hunters book had the potential for flipping the premise of the first movie, where we have a advanced, fully equipped team hunting a Predator with primitive weapons. It could have been a great display of the Predator's intelligence, cunning, and skill. Instead the writers wasted it on another by the numbers story.
That was a great listen!
Thanks for the very kind words on the art and color! :)

No worries! Thank you for listening and for your work!
I agree with nameless 1 id go see a darker predator film where maybe only a child survives. All main characters are killed. Even will settle for a draw where pred is bested but main hero dies from the nuke. Especially at ground zero cough cough Dutch?!!
Like I mentioned in the episode, that's one of the things I like about If It Bleeds - Predators actually survive. And it's also a disappointment I had with Hunters, I was hoping for a recurring Predator baddy. It wasn't enough to ruin the series for me, though.
One of the AVP comics had a pretty good draw, where both the main Predator and main Human's parties were killed fighting each other, but the two teamed up to fight a PredAlien.
Very true. And that Predator ends up coming out of that draw on top as we find out in War.
Nice review!
Spoiler
Just finished listening to the podcast - thanks you guys for accompanying me on my errands this morning ;D Really appreciate the work you put in to getting these podcasts to us.
This series really is a testament to how Predator is intriguing and entertaining on its own, without AvP snaked in there.
First, love the artwork throughout the comics. Each issue was just gorgeous and fitting in its own right. The gore was great, the shots of the Predator were masterpieces, especially some of the closeups in the last chapter.
I liked Atal's role. The disability, his friendship with Swain. He was written well, very empathetic and not a chore to read, not in the least. I wished just he wouldn't have stayed behind in the end.
Oh, and I second Ridgetop. I thought it was implied that the two were sort of an "item" at the end (Jaya and Artemis)...
So looking forward to Hunters III 8)
Regarding some stuff that was mentioned in the podcast...
I sort of waffle back and forth between the team up idea. On one hand, it has the potential to easily end up being a cheeze-fest. However, if done well, it could add so much to the story and open up a lot of possibilities. I like the way it was done in Lebbon's trilogy. It was reluctant, and believable. It kept with the traditional portrayal of Predators and how they behave, fight, etc. I would even be excited to see an emissary-type or "police"-type figure participate in a team-up without it being reluctant. It'd just have to ensure that the Predators remain in character. Keep their separate psychology, their way of thinking distinct from ours.
I also wish we'd get some recurring Predator characters in the main Predator series. I know it's been mentioned in other threads that it'd be hard to have the whole human cast killed off in a movie and still keep the audience's sympathy... but a comic would probably be the best medium to experiment with that type of storyline. Makes me think I should pick up If It Bleeds. If only I had more time :'(
I just got a notification from Amazon that my copy of the trade paperback is arriving.... today? I didn't even realize it was out today, haha.

Ya other than the new game announcement, the Predator side of things has been too quiet for my liking.
Ordered mine from Amazon but no notification about it sent out yet.
