Is Elder Kalakta from rage war Greyback? (Read 2,273 times)

Hello friends! I was just reading the Rage War trilogy and thought it was heavily implied that the Elder Kalakta was in fact Greyback from Predator 2. He even mentioned meeting someone on earth with the same description as Harrigan. What do you think?

SM

It's so heavily implied I'd accept it as a given.

Also here's a bit of Dan Abnett's script for AvP - Life and Death (issue 2, page 3) with my notes to Fox in italics.  It wasn't a suggestion they took up.

Quote2. Give us another beauty shot of the Predators. Focus on the leader, who is taller and bigger than the rest. Maybe his dreadlocks are longer than the others, as well -- like the older Predator at the end of Predator 2 (could this actually BE the Elder from Predator 2 – and if so it could be the same Elder – Kalakta – from the Predator: Incursion novel?  Assuming he doesn't die, and not knowing the canon status of Predator 2, it might be a cool tie in to Predator 2 and The Rage War books).

Well I will take it as a definitive yes and a win, as I truly wanted it to be. Having a recurring Predator in separate stories is a great thing.

I've never once in my life seen a physical copy of any of those books down here, nor have I come across any digital or pirate versions. I'd love to give you an answer but I have no idea how to access the stories without tremendous expense ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I understand completely, they were not easy for me to get ahold of myself. I do appreciate it though my friend.

SM

Predator Incursion is available on Kindle for just under AUD$9.

Thanks for the info, I'm on the second book now, I really like it so far. 👍

Yes, he easily could (and should) be Kalakta.

Thanks for the reply! After continuing the books, I actually can't see him NOT being Greyback. Kalakta absolutely is you're right.

I'm not sure if he's supposed to be Greyback himself, but he's definitely associated with the Lost Tribe. The ten thousand suns comment makes me think it could be as it's implying he's 10,000 years old. From the book:

QuoteI am Kalakta... six hundred and seventy-seventh Elder clan. The words appeared on the screen. They continued, missing some of what he said but still managing to make sense.

It's working! Palant thought, almost slumping with relief.

... born long... ten thousand suns. My parent group... Ascendance was on your Earth, in a city of... and heat. A man with dark skin... worthy opponent. I have hunted through... and taken many human trophies.

Also knowing exactly the fact that "the man" had a darker complexion makes me think he directly saw Lt  Harrigan. Which considering his current age as a very old elder I think it could only be him from the lost tribe. No other member would have been such a significant age of thousands of years by this point in the timeline. I think I may have basically reiterated what you said lol but...yes I believe based on what we have, it is most likely him.

SM

Ten thousand years old is just silly.  Unless Predator years are considerably shorter.

Hmm, perhaps his measurement of suns isn't meant to be in years but something more like "many moons" or months if you will, making him more around 900 years old. Not sure how long it takes the predator planet to revolve around their sun but could be significantly less time or perhaps even longer maybe. 🤔

SM

I thought perhaps 'suns' = 'days' but that'd make him 27.  ;D

Don't worry, at first I also thought the same.🤣
