Somebody had to dislike it. I mean, it's been out a long time.

But what is there to dislike?  ???

Nothing I know of. It's a shame he didn't give a more detailed assessment.

Indeed.

Huggs

Might just be a smith fan. Ruger vs smith is like ford vs chevy.

Local Trouble

Are you saying Smith fans are the Klingons of the gun community?

Still a Taurus though.

It's a shame that they still have such a bad reputation.

I got lucky with mine though. Runs like a tank.

I wanted a Taurus before I discovered the GP100, but the model I wanted isn't on the CA roster.

Why isn't it allowed? Because it's an 8 shot?

Per the state website:

QuoteAs of January 1, 2001, no handgun may be manufactured within California, imported into California for sale, lent, given, kept for sale, or offered/exposed for sale unless that handgun model has passed firing, safety, and drop tests and is certified for sale in California by the Department of Justice

So either the 608 didn't pass or Taurus never bothered submitting it.  They've had many other handguns tested and certified, so I kinda doubt it's the latter.

It's not the capacity since the S&W model 627 is legal here.

Strange. I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't pass though. What little I used to hear of the 608 wasn't great.

Smith was the only other one I knew of making an 8 shot 357 at the time, until ruger finally came out with the 8 shot Redhawk.

I have a model 65. Bought it new in 2008. Taurus' matte finish looks awful in person. I polished it with some Mothers, swapped the factory grips out with some hogues and shot the fire out of it. The trigger is absolute glass now. Strange thing is it's actually heavier than the gp100.

Local Trouble

Is the cylinder as finicky with ammo as the 7-shot GP100?

Huggs

It's a 6 shot. Mines the model 65. The model 66 is the 7 shot. It's been nothing but reliable.

Local Trouble

I meant the 608.  I expect you to have all the answers.

Huggs

I just remember people having trouble with them. Not necessarily the ammo, but the gun failing. It's been a long time though.

I shot my Carcano for the first time since I bought it 5 years ago on Sunday, I'm very surprised with how well it shoots. It did hurt to shoot Norma Alaska at paper but I've had the ammo forever now
