Post by: Gash on Jan 17, 2012, 02:08:32 AM
Something I did recently. Painted in gouache.

I want this on my wall, NOW.

That is beautiful. Perfect...poster.  Loving the blend between the Giger walls and the Nostromo corridors.

Is it okay if I use this as a desktop background?

This is very good! I didn't know you had such painting skills. How long did it take you?

Thanks very much. I've not posted in the fan section before but my legless Space Jockey, alien hanging in chains and various other things have turned up on the forum before thanks to other posters.

MrSpaceJockey- yes feel free.

Ikarop - I did it over the Christmas period, a week or so.

Not sure, but he did do the morphing Brett that he has on his avatar.  Really spectacular artwork.  It's a shame the sequels don't get this same artistic love!

El Acheronsis originale!  That is soooooo wicked dude, excellent excellent work.  Traditional or digital?

My once critique is that I think the hand looks like it's behind the burster, not in front.  Maybe a bit less transparency or more blurring?  Thats all I got.

God it takes me back to the good old days.
Title: Re: Gash exposed
Post by: Gash on Jan 26, 2012, 02:35:56 PM
Been painting for years, about 11 years professionally.

The chestburster was a pencil drawing, coloured on computer - half digital I guess.

Something else...

I definitely will. But I might wait till I've seen the film so I can do something that's thematic. At the moment, although there are some great images I wouldn't know where to put the emphasis or quite what to focus on.

Thanks. It's mostly painted in gouache, but some of the images are edited/recomposited using Photoshop and Paint Shop. The ones below were very simple pencil drawings with all the colours and shading done on computer - gradient fills and the like. Recently bought a Wacom so I'll try and get used to working with that.

@ Alone in the Dark, wow.  That's just freaking... you're going to start a cult any minute now, aren't you?

You know one of my favorite things to do with the Alien films is to put myself in these creepy little moments that you never really get to see.  How lonely would that be?  Or horrible?  Knowing that your friends were still out there running from this thing that's killing them, while you die a nightmarish, painful, and slow death.

Very nice.  I hope you do more pieces like this in the future.  If you don't hate Alien3, it also provides many eerie "I'm dying alone and the alien has raped me" moments.  Come to think of it so does Aliens.

Exquisite work.

Well, it's not that. It's just that I don't know anything about it, so it's difficult to know what's significant and what would make an interesting take on it. It's a safe bet that the trailer doesn't scratch the surface.

It's dripping with atmosphere. I can hear the flame thrower burping and the wet sounds echoing.

Is this all done digitally or was this begun as a piece of traditional tangible art? Breathtaking.

I painted it in gouache, but the whole thing was darkened considerably with some colour adjustment after scanning.

Then it's an amazing dance of traditional and digital flavorings. I'm quite looking forward to what you produce in the future. Gouache is a species of water color if I recall? Amazing control over such a fluid medium. You must be one of those beings from Cameron's Abyss.  ;)

Never actually seen Zeta One, well... seen about 15 minutes of (fleshy) highlights. Probably one of the few Brit flicks of the era that I haven't seen. I'm sure the talents of James Robertson justice and Charles Hawtrey are squandered and by all accounts it is the epitome of an exploitation film for all concerned but it looks like it has that kitsch cheesy, late 60s vibe that gives it a certain appeal.

This is just amazing. Honestly, there are no words for such insanely well done work.

Oh shit. :D

Fantastic, as usual. The sunset lighting and the realism of the sky and ground in first painting is amazing, and while the Stingray in the second  pic is great too, those green scales really get me going, artistically.

10/10, Gash.

Omg, I can't believe my post on this was deleted during the server transfer, was honestly hoping it would be one of the lucky ones to not get lost on the way. Anyway, I remember writing that I really freaking enjoyed these pieces. Almost like something in between a movie poster and concept art for an actual movie. Just love the fact that they look more like paintings than anything else, the colors are nicely done, lots of action and vision in these. Totally love them.

Started using it 4 days ago. Did a couple of figures as try outs, then the werewolf from An American Werewolf in London, then launched into the Space Jockey.

Here's the werewolf, not figured out how to do hair yet :-)

The Jockey might be a hard one to finish, Sculptris is very good at doing the organic, but mechanical geometry is extremely difficult. It would probably have to be blended with a a jockey chair/telescope made in a different program.

Anyway, in the meantime, here's something more fleshy...
