I’d don’t think it’d be a stretch to say that news of Neill Blomkamp’s Alien 5 project has been the excitement of the community of late. And it’s looking increasingly likely that the new film will be an alternate sequel to Aliens, ignoring Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection, bringing Ripley and Hicks back to life for Alien 5.

For our 25th episode of the AvPGalaxy Podcast RidgeTop, Xenomorphine and I decided to take a look back to 1989 to have a look at another alternate sequel to Aliens – the original Dark Horse Aliens comic trilogy.

We recap the initial trilogy which featured Hicks and Newt and eventually Ripley face against the Aliens again in a variety of encounters that take them to the Aliens homeworld and an Alien infested Earth. We talk about how suitable a sequel the trilogy was to Aliens and if there were any elements we would like carrying over to Neill Blomkamp’s Alien 5. Be sure to give the podcast a listen!

Man it has been Soooo long since a stand alone alien film, man has it ever I believe it will be epic and teriffic to the point where I understand Ripley's alternate story comes to a end but would endorse additional interesting characters involved in this sequel so if another sequel goes ahead we can follow through with them. Perhaps the title of this film should be Aliens 2.

I'd be happy if they made the Earth War books into films.

With Hicks or with Wilks?

Krypter

Hmm that's a tough one. I always saw Wilks and Billie as kind of Hick/Newt anyway.

I'd be tempted to stick with Wilks and just start the story line with the characters as they are in the books.
Saying that I wouldn't be opposed to having Hicks in there. Swap Newt/Billie too and the age difference between films can easily be explained.

What about make a new poll? for example which movie are you most looking for? prometheus 2, Predator 4 or Alien 5

I wouldn't mind seeing an invasion of Earth or a more developed colony. To truly see the Aliens effect humanity on a much larger scale than a small colony.

Hopefully we get that in Rage War.

I was thinking more in terms of on screen.

Born Of Cold Light

Doing an Alien invasion on Earth or any similar planet is a risky business visually.  Sure, it could be awesome if done right, but Aliens are creatures that lurk in the shadows.  Having them tear apart Parisian boutiques in broad daylight might look really corny.  Also, the last film to feature Aliens on Earth wasn't exactly a resounding success...

Xenomorphine

That had nothing to do with setting it on Earth.

Just do it like the graphic novel did, if it has to be done. Although, even if Earth were taken, that wouldn't end humanity. We've clearly spread through the galaxy.

I'm thinking more in terms of seeing the landscape changed into that Gigeresque Hive. The power of seeing a well developed human locale transformed like that would be fantastic!

Good show guys.

I agree with most points except those about Sam Keith's art. In the retcon editions it has been recolored in a way that really takes away from it. The original printings had a wonderful, chalky color that makes Sam's art much nicer. The way he draws humans is too wacky for an Aliens story, but other than that I think his visual style worked well enough & kept with the moodiness of the Dark Horse comics.

Speaking of, I'd love to see more coverage on the old comics & novels in future episodes. Perhaps tackling three entries in each like this previous show. An episode exploring the 'Labyrinth' series would be great!

Anyway, wonderful job. I really appreciate how you guys don't put on a fake bombastic attitude or use a lot of foul language in an attempt to sound 'cool'. It's a pretty professional podcast, especially compared to many of the others I discover. Keep up the good work!

I agree that the queen should not have to breed in order to reproduce, as that would reduce her overall threat level.  That being said, maybe mating could lead to the creation of a more advanced, efficient version of Alien.  One of the major ways that sexual reproduction is superior to asexual is that it allows for different genes to interact and more diverse organisms to be created.  It would just be one more layer on top of egg morphing that would give Aliens a competitive edge.

I remember back in the Alien Interactive Story that one of the endings was where an Alien got back to Earth, reproduced, and eventually took over the Earth.  Though there were colonies in space, they relied on Earth for many natural resources and thus died off slowly.  If Hadley's Hope is indicative of most colonies, then I easily see that happening.

That would be pretty cool if done right, and could have a strong eldritch feel to it.  Skyscrapers could be completely transformed into colossal, spiraling Alien towers.

I would think it would end up the other way round. We're already worried about running out of certain materials. I would imagine that the off-world sites would be responsible for the mining and production of certain supplies so I wouldn't really buy into that. Earth is just the cradle.

Exactly! It would all depend on the execution but the visual power would be astonishing.

I'll have to go back and have another look at the originals.

Oh, definitely! We'll go back whenever we want to discuss any particular comic or book.  :) We did a general comic themed one some today. SiL guest starred.

Thanks for the kind words. Very much appreciated.  :) It's nice to get feedback on how we're doing.
