does anyone have any idea how long it took the colony to loose contact with earth from the moment that newt's father was face hugged?

I assume the Narcissus' flight recorder (black box) is synched with that of the Nostromo's. And even if it operated independently, it should still have recorded their landing co-ordinates on LV-426.

And Burke as a Company executive would have access to the Company's property.

i kinda figured the flight recorder might have had something to do with it.

quite speculatively it might br interesting to hypothesize exactly what information was in that flight recorder. i mean if the inforemation was on that fr that showed the exact coordinates of where  the ship landed on lv 426 etc if i was a company exec u would find it hard to believe that someone would just detach a tug ship for no good reason. would they kill the rest of the crew to keep it silent? does the WY still remember the "land investigate OR forefieiture of shares " situation. interesting tovthink about.

Ellen Ripley, she was pretty desperate to try and tell everyone what happened and repeated it a few times to the meeting. Burke simply used her report.

As for loss of contact, it takes weeks just to communicate, so it would take a further week or so after for the relevent folks to class it as loss of contact.

yes i think that the the report would have sent burke the right place to go look for a grid reference. just curious as to the grid references and what else would have been on that flight recorder. i mean the nostromo probably weighs a couple of hundred of tons, its not a tinkertoy and no one would go to the trouble of detaching a tugship for the fun of it. the possability of serious damage to the tugship at attaching and detaching time alone would make it a very risky endeavour indeed. let alone landing a couple of hundred of tons on not quite a level surface. why none of the hearing members takes that into consideration is a bit odd to me. so there must have been a pretty good reason for landing. but no one is asking why.

well if takes weeks for the signal to get to or from lv426 lets say 2 weeks then the moment that newt's father was face hugged then shouldn't that have immediately reported to earth qnd the resulting time  of the receipt be 2 weeks after being sent? there was no report sent back to earth about that incident so why not? if  from  being facehugged to fully  grown xeno takes about 24 to 36 hours why people go back to the derelict. by that time people would have known tocstay away from the derelict. sochow did one alien manage tovprevent 60 to 70 familoes from sending a signal back to earth? except maybe if newt's father birthed a queen.

sorry about my spelling. this cellphone keyboard's a bitch. lol
