As someone who believes they used the wrong sounds, this is a good method to feel the proper horror which the game should have had at the start. It also lets you use your wits more rather than being subjugated to routine gameplay.

There have been some people who seem to have been bothered by the new sound effects added to the Alien.  Some say it takes away from the classic approach of the Original Giger Xenomorph, being mostly silent and creeping up on people.
Now, while I personally LOVED the sound design of the alien, really giving it a sense of weight and gravity, unlike previous installments where a runing Xenomorph would make virtually no sound at all, and compared to this game seemed like they were floating from A to B.

but,

for those out there who wanted to true 1979 experience, and overall less nerve wrecking but still terrifying approach, try turning the sfx off then start a mission relatively few human and android enemies. You can leave the music on.
You won't hear The Alien crawling in nearby vents above you, you won't hear it 'drop off, drop down'  and you won't hear its loud foot steps as it gets near you.
Much like the original Alien movie, the creature could suddenly be standing behind you or jump right on you, and you won't know until the end.

Believe me, the tension you feel when playing it this way is insane. Especially because the lack of background noises really gives you a false sense of security.  You won't get the feeling you have to hide every 3-4 steps because the alien sounds like its about to drop down. You won't hear it getting near giving you time to prepare.

When turned Easy mode on, no motion tracker.  That true alien feeling is complete.  I can tell you you're able to atleast walk around 10 15 minutes long and you'll never bump into the alien at all. Now probably it had probably been near a couple of times where I just couldn't see it, and it see me.
This also gets rid of the feeling that the alien is always literally near you and has some kind of telepathic abilities. It most likely is STILL near you, but because you can't hear it ( and some luck )  it feels like the " bump into "segments are less frequent.
And the heart attack you receive you walk a relatively tense but save 10 minute walk until to turn a corner and walk right into the alien. Completly unexpected.
