Time's going by fast. Given the uncertainty of what could happen with Disney, I may have to go see this in theaters. If nothing else, I'll always be able to say I saw one on the Big Screen.

Even so, it's still going to depend on the word from the street. If the reviews and opinions from actual fans are overwhelmingly negative, the full plot summary sounds terrible, and/or it's tanking at the box office, then I'll just wait for the Blu-ray release.

I am so excited for this movie. My uncle introduced me to the first Predator over 20 years ago and I've actually never seen a solo Predator flick in theaters. Only AvP R unfortunately haha. I'm so ready for this movie. I'm not going to watch any of the marketing. I'm actually surprised how good the marketing has been on not spoiling character deaths or big action beats. I'm sure that will change in the next 2-3 weeks but still, by now most big films have shown a lot.

Regardless, once tickets go on sale I'll be sure to get my ass in a seat with the biggest screen possible. A lot of my friends who've never seen a Predator flick will be joining me on this one and I hope it's a good introduction for them!

I'm very glad with that too. I have no idea how any of the characters die and I'm stoked for it. Hell, they didn't even show the Predators cloaked or plasmacaster blasts on any trailers or TV spots, that's ceazy. I'll try to hold on watching any new marketing promos.

Damn, can't believe it's so close. Feels like just yesterday I was scavenging news on this movie, hungry for any sort of look into it, and now... I'm

I've saw Predators in theaters and despite my developed opinion of it, at the time it was an enjoyable experience.

I was born roughly six months before Resurrection was released, so my first Alien film was Prometheus cinematically.
Although I was obsessed with the first three from about 8 years old before that.
I remember my Dad buying the "Quadrilogy" in what felt like a particularly long summer.

I also saw Predators in theaters...a couple of times  :) Even though it doesn't measure up to the first two, I'm still a believer to this day.  Thankful that I was at least able to catch one in the theatres.

Also saw Predators a couple of times in theaters, and still enjoy it today. But the first one I watched actually was AVPR...

My first Alien or Predator film in the cinema was AvP which I think I saw twice. Once on opening in the UK and second with a voucher in a special Aliens/Predator DVD boxset that came out around the same time. I saw all the others - AvPR, Predators and Prometheus three times. I think I saw Covenant 4 or 5 times.

I'm really looking forward to this one too. I just love the cast. I've loved seeing their chemistry together in all the recent releases. I love Black and I love what he says about the film. I'm still a little cautious because of reservations about some of the plot elements but I'm still excited to see how someone like Black brings it all together. I'd love to go 4/4 with Predator films I love.

This is basically same story with all of the films I've been able to see in theaters as well. Almost exactly, saw AVP on opening night with my brothers and dad. Got a similar special DVD free movie ticket thing, so then saw it probably 3 more times haha. About 3 times each as well with AVPR, Predators, Prometheus & Covenant, which I also saw all on opening nights too. Predators had a decent turnout showing in San Diego and I am still a fan of that film and think it was a good 3rd entry into the series that I can live with  ;D

I am definitely excited to see this one in theaters opening night as well! Still expecting some questionable parts with the story I guess, but I haven't tried to spoil much for myself so I'm glad for that so far. But I agree it's freakin awesome Shane Black took this whole thing over, I've warmed up to this cast a lot with the more I see, the effects and Predators look great for the most part and it's got an R rating (thank goodness). I'm stoked! Counting the days to September 14...

It wasn't filmed for 3d it's just a conversion if I'm not mistaken. That harpoon shot could be awesome as well as fugitive firing the single wrist blade.

Yup. But still, I've seen some damn good converted 3D films. Dredd was awesome in 3D. I hope they make good use of it here.

Dredd was filmed for 3D and IMO quite possibly the only film worth viewing in 3D.

I hope it's a good conversion. With Larry Fong as cinematographer, a good 3D conversion would make it look amazing. Imagine the Predator vision in 3D.

4 year development.  3 weeks away from opening and not finished yet.

Black seemingly has made some pretty dumb mistakes, I don't he's dumb.

I do think that various producers and studio heads told him to edit...a lot

it's done now. i'm actually encouraged by the fact they're determined to get it right to a reasonable extent. of course, the majority of fans will still be pissed. however, remember that the creative minds behind the film intentionally avoided fanboy ideas. that says a lot, and that is refreshing

I just now saw the trailer for the first time, no particular reason why I avoided it. I'm not sure what to think about the Ultimate Predator. I looked through the threads here and surprised to not see a dedicated thread for the Ultimate Predator from any of the more dedicated AVPG predator fans here. But then I guess there's little to no info to discuss on this new predator.

I guess I do like it one way, there's a growing variation of the predator species (within the film universe). Not unlike humans, which eons ago there were different types of humans. Only difference, we are the only ones who avoided extinction. Seems plausible that within the predator genus(?) a number of its species survived.

Edit: My apologies, after submitting this post, I dug further back and did find an old thread dedicated to the Ultimate Predator. Oops.

Embargo on the footage that I saw lifted today, so here are my impressions with description:

Spoiler
I saw the Fugitive vs. Upgrade scene. This one was a pretty serious scene, it didn't have any of the humor, which is good considering it really didn't have a place there, so they knew best to avoid it. The Upgrade's CGI was excellent. Infinitely better than anything from the likes of Alien: Covenant. The fight doesn't last long, but Fugitive does have some cool moves. His physicality is completely different from anything we've seen in previous movies in a very good way, he doesn't look heavy or bunky like many of the previous Predators, his moves are pretty slick and agile, and I really think Brian A. Prince NAILED the Predator body language. The Upgrade looks like an absolute badass, and the armor-skin is showcased when Fugitive tries to attack him with his wrist blade and it breaks. We all know how it ends; Upgrade tosses Fugitive over the car, removes his mask, punches his face and then pulls his head off, spine and everything. Meanwhile everyone's escaping to the RV. One detail is that Upgrade doesn't take Fugitive's skull as a trophy, takes one look at it and deliberately tosses it away as he turns to look towards the escaping RV. Casey says: "What, they're hunting each other now?". The scene was short and there was no time for the score to feature any of the big, most remarkable motifes of the Predator soundtrack, but it sounded very much in tone with it.

My memory is a little foggy on that to be honest,
Spoiler
I think he does attempt to shoot him at first, Assassin dodges it and attacks him tossing him away and breaking the plasmacaster on the process, and then Fugitive proceeds to close-range combat. Could be remembering it wrong though, but I think it's something like this.

Apart from The Nun, as others have pointed out, there is not much competition in the way of the film during the month of September. It should do very well in this region (Southeast Asia)!

The Nun shouldn't be much competition. The audience is not exactly the same, and The Nun is very very low-budget. It doesn't need to be a massive hit to break even. The Predator is gonna pocket it easily.

The Nun will still make a ton of money. The Conjuring Universe does very well. All of the previous films have done gang busters at the box office regardless of quality.

I'm going to steer clear from all footage that is released. I watched a bunch of the TV spots but I don't want to see anything else. I'm sold so far. I already got my tickets.

I've mentioned before I HATE watching films at theaters - crying kids, ipads, etc. But I will definitely see The Predator at the theater.  Been a long journey from Predator 1987 to The Predator 2018. Looking forward to it!

I totally feel ya. The urge of watching a movie you waited for so long is often tempered by what you mentioned, unfortunately.

IPads? I would toss them across the theatre. Same with phones. Just stay home.

At least where I live in the UK, all I have to do is get up and get the staff- there's usually no problems after that.

The first Alien of predator film I watched in the cinema was covenant.

I'm going to my first day at a film college in belgium and then in the evening I'm going to watch it in a cinema somewhere in Belgium.

I average maybe once a year going to the theater and that's only because when my daughter comes into town, she likes to go the movies. So I did see Deadpool 2 at the theaters. Before that, at least a year or more and I can't even remember the movie.

I had no plans to go to the theater for another year but the other night a big storm took out my power. So off to the theater and saw Meg. The only two films available that late in the evening was Meg or Incredibles 2. I wish I had picked Incredibles 2. Meg wasn't bad, it delivers for a popcorn movie, plenty of high adrenaline action sequence. I would have thought a massive shark would have been exhilarating, but it really had little impact for me.

Anyway, no ipads this time but a young couple brought their toddlers, 9pm at night. So began the toddler whining and non-stop chatter.

One time I was at the theater with my daughter and this ahole near the front row had his bright IPAD out non-stop. I got sick of it and started throwing little ice cubes at him. One finally hit him, he whipped back and shouted knock it out. I didn't have to say a word. Several other audience members shouted at him, "then turn off your f***n phone!"

Some people like that ahole think they are the center of the universe. Well, they're wrong! I'm the center of the universe!..... ;)

It took godzilla 2014 to get me back to the theater. Before that the last movie I had seen in theaters was either Aladdin or The Lion King .

Godzilla 2014 was a great experience. Everybody was on good behavior. The next movie I saw in theaters after that was Jurassic World, but it was full of yelling children and generally annoying people playing with their phones. The audio was way too loud, the projector had a pixel out, the room was dirty, and the power went out halfway through the picture.

Needless to say I prefer waiting for Blu-ray release now. Like I've said before, no seat beats my own. I've got climate control, my choice of food at cost, and I can hit the bathroom without missing the movie. Oh and the best part, repeat viewings are free.

The only movie that will get me back to the theater will be the next Godzilla. I look forward to watching the Meg and the predator on Blu-ray this winter.

Lion King/Aladdin? Wow...that IS a long time. You just might be the King of Abandoning Theaters. You list out all the benefits of watching film at home and I'm right there with you. It took me awhile to build my home theater system the way I want, with the star of the set up being a Sony 75" android TV. Haven't missed the theaters since.

And

QuoteThePredator is getting closer now, general thoughts? Hopes? Concerns?

This will be a real badass film straight out of the 80s (90s). A nonstandard story, witty dialogue, charismatic characters, and teeth-chattering battles vs Predators. It's Shane Black and couldn't be any other way.

Was just about to say, Aladdin/Lion King? My god  I rarely go to the movies, especially since these days I have access to some pretty kickass home theatre setups.  Still haven't been completely sold on the efficacy of watching movies like this in theatre vs Blu-Ray (as in, whether the viewing experience will be greatly enhanced by watching it on the big screen or not.) Jury's still out on this one, but if it does end up being mindblowingly awesome I will absolutely regret not seeing it.

It takes a lot to get me to go. The only reason I went for Jurassic world was because I love the Jurassic movies so much, and after my good experience with Godzilla, I thought I'd try for another. I was wrong. I just prefer home viewings I guess. With the technology we have today, large screen TV's, high definition picture, quality surround sound, there's just no need.

God, your cinema goers are so rude in the States. I used to work in a cinema and we regularly checked screens to make sure nothing like that was happening. We'd boot out people like that.

I find it doubtful rude people at theaters is exclusive to the States. I find it more likely it's a global issue. Examples opposite your example is in this very thread where forum members in France and the Netherlands complained of rude people in theaters.

And according to this Brit on reddit, UK cinemas are not exactly free of rude people....

"Now the shooting still had an effect even here in the uk, so the cinema was tense with slight increase in true British paranoia, but everything was fine. Except the jackass who keep checking and surfing Facebook every 6 minutes with a fully gleaming phone. People had asked and he flat out refused in less than polite manner, his phone on full brightness. "

And if you're still skeptical UK cinema is also plagued with rude people, here's 67 examples of bad behavior in British cinema....

Godzilla was shit IMO. But having people not as invested in the film can be a pain the butt indeed.

I saw a bus while on holiday that had The predator ads on it, it made me very happy.

When I watched Alien Covenant, a load of guys who were all really loud came in and I thought they would talk throughout but as soon as it started, not a word was spoken, it was great and I hope for the same conditions with this one.

Didn't intend for you to take that so personally, Bio. My apologies. Perhaps the point here is people everywhere suck but go tell your cinema staff. It's their jobs to make the cinema going experience one people want to come back to and stop people behaving like that.

No apology necessary, nothing personal taken. I didn't think you were trying to be negative towards Americans. I just wanted to clarify it was not a nation specific issue.  Now that said.....I would risk a $10 bet that us Yankees are near the top of the list of most rude theater audience....

Same here, seeing ads not necessarily at movie specific venues. I haven't researched it, but it appears they are investing some sizable coin in advertisement.

If the staff are even helpful. The only theater in my area is 30 miles away and only ever has like 2 or 3 employees in it, including the manager. One working the concessions, one selling tickets, and one to team up with either of the other 2 to clean the rooms after a showing. The last time I was in there, they were all just kids who were too busy picking their noses or talking about their relationships to seem authoritative or intimidating. When it comes to informing a 6' 3 and 270lb man to stop playing with his phone, I wouldn't count on them for squat.
