Jesus it seems like they're actually bringing it home for fans. It sounds like a prequel to Alien. And that carries a lot of expectation and excitement. They're aware Prometheus didn't work, but it wasn't without merit. This might be the film which puts Alien atop of the pantheon again
The thing most fans should be excited for, is the synchronization between the scariness of Alien and the scope of Prometheus. Not just that it'll be scary. It's one thing to have one or the other, but when you get something massive and frightening, that's a gift and it should be celebrated. It's a gift that only the likes of Ridley Scott could bring to us. Even when Guillermo Del Toro had the backing of Tom Cruise and James Cameron, he couldn't get At the Mountains of Madness off the ground.
Scary? Check.
Epic scope? Check.
Cerebral? Check, per Ridley Scott.
All three of these elements working in congruity. Wow. Strap in, folks.

Yeah definitely. They're not mutually exclusive at all. We just rarely see it because horror movies are never really at that level. But even then, it's the non-horror scenes that might provide the scope, or at least some of it.
Perfect! Exactly how Alien movies should be, none of that AVP crap. Although, they should make an Aliens 5 at some point before that cast gets older and older...or maybe not...
The level of my excitement is off the charts. I can see why they wouldn't do anything Covenant related at SDCC. Why get in a situation where you fight with Aliens or Blomkamp's film. The Powers That Be smartly are keeping these as two separate projects.
He said what he had to say to sell the movie. What else would he say? "The movie is not very scary. It's a lot like Prometheus." ::)

We run surely the risk of fan service in Covenant. But not much compared to Blomkamp's Alien, in my opinion.
I don't hate the last Star Wars, but it's just a blockbuster without interest and already forgotten.
At least Prometheus tried something different.
10 years from now people will probably understand the value of the film in the long run.

I think that last Pirates of the Caribbean movie holds the record for most expensive film at around $350 million. Avatar could perhaps have cost even more since I suspect the official figures were fudged.

From the sounds of it about how Alien fanbase acts about hating Prometheus, The Prometheus hate so much like the Sonic Fanbase hating Sonic for his blue arms.

Also by "when the ball starts rolling" I can't help but remember how awesome aliens was once the second attack happen. It just refused to let up on the tension. However the films budget has to be somewhere between 135 and 160 million. I can't see a higher budget being approved.

We are getting all of these non-Ripley films to satisfy the anti-Ripley brigade, and when we get ONE film proposed by a really cool filmmaker that will offer an alternate ending to Ripley's arc, which fans have been clamoring for for 30 years, all hell breaks loose. The problem is Prometheus wasn't scary at all. There was some tension, but that's pretty much it. The bar was set pretty low. It shouldn't be hard to top that. Still, here's hoping they're attempting to top the level of fear the first two Alien films had.
Yes Prometheus wasn't scary unless you recall the scary bits. Otherwise it's called a Thriller, suspense.
So technically there were scary bits and it goes without saying. Unless you have a much higher tolerance to disgust.

I just never expected Prometheus 2 to be this Alien. Like I said Prometheus isn't without merit, if Alien Covenant is grandiose that'll be a trait derived from Prometheus

When I first watched Prometheus and there was that moment where Fifield and Milburn were informed of a "ping", I thought that was a pretty scary moment. I mean, the first time you watch it, you have no idea what that ping is, but you know it can't be good...
I'd say that was probably the scariest moment in an alien film in 30 years.
I can't say I found any fear in that. It wasn't presented as being scary, just another mystery.
It's funny because the trailer gave it this air of terror and then there was that audio of the hammerpede scene that was released that sounded terrifying but Prometheus just doesn't take that approach. At all.
Admittedly, I do find those black Engineer eyes creepy as f**k though.
Prometheus was about as scary as waking up one morning and pulling back the covers to reveal your own body nesting beneath.

Prometheus had scary bits but after a certain age it's bits just doesn't cut it anymore. Show this movie back in 1950 and it would have been wet the bed terrifying.

That was a good scene, but i have a feeling there will be many in this film that will be over the top.
I just want a zero gravity scene of an alien coming after a human, complete with a darkened room and strobe lights. Maybe some glass floors and walls so we can see a dead body against the backdrop of space.

Can't see this being as scary as the original Alien. Had nightmares when I watched that as a young lad haha. I'm looking forward to seeing it nonetheless.

If they bridge the gap well, then this film will fall somewhere in between PROMETHEUS and ALIEN and that will be a resounding yes. One thing this series is short on is simply Good entries in the series that aren't divisive. I would argue ALIEN 3 is good but a step down, PROMETHEUS is relying too heavily on this film IMHO to be a worthwhile setup, so its probably the most divisive for that reason alone. Clearly A:R has some great scene but is a poorly aging mess, and AVPs are just bad movies in almost every way.
But I have a feeling we may actually get an decent Alien film this time. Not a masterpiece like ALIEN and ALIENS, but something that strikes the right bargain.
If Scott pulls that off I can forgive everything underwhelming in PROMETHEUS for making its way to this. This series deserves its redemption, finally.

How does it say nothing? People have been crying for years that Prometheus should have had more horror and been scarier. I've seen lots of people post here expressing their hope that the film would go in a more horror/scary direction and now two people on the film have stated that it will be.
Then you get people that post " he's not saying anything!". Gotta love this fanbase.
I'd really like to know what Ernie Hudson and Dan Aykroyd think about Alien: Covenant; those are opinions I can trust.

I think the guy is just saying that, as Prometheus was not scary, saying that Covenant will be scary is not a difficult feat to achieve. Admittedly, he is banging on about it.
Also, Fassbender was obviously asked the question. He hasn't randomly just come out with it.
