So judging by that listing:

Spoiler
3) So this explains how the ship gets damaged and Franco character gets killed.
4) A flashback, of Daniels/Branson.. Or That scene with the window and record player (which means there is another ship.)
13) Could this mean there are engineers that survived, or is it referring to Shaw, or possibly (some of another crew have survived?)
[close]

Which means Sagardoa was correct.

Incubation may be the creation/waking up of David. I dont think they'd start off with a bang.

Good to see Cudrup lasts a good while in the film.

Yeah, and I think track 4. A cabin on the lake has something to do with Daniels and Branson, certainly not David's or Shaw's hideout.

Some of those possible meanings sound like the crap Scified would come up with.  :D

Daniels is the terraforming expert. So Bring it to my Turf, followed by Terraforming Bay sounds like the old lure it near the airlock and blow it out the ship. Also Payload Deployment must be David destroying the engineers.

Incubation is likely David's awaking.

So is popeye the sailor man. I mean the engineers on the juggernaut used that tune as their passphrase. This is leading ever more credence that Elvis was in fact an Engineer.

On the topic of the soundtrack, the alien bits
Spoiler
seem to be rather compacted. The neomorphs have what appears to be 2 tracks and then the last four are dedicated to protomorph.

Also, cabin on the lake, I wonder if this is where we first get to see David. You know, living like a real boy. Of course it's meant to fool us into thinking that David is a nice robot before going all robot apocalypse on the crew.

After getting reminded about David
Spoiler
in the very first sequence - granted that Incubation bit is for David and Weyland scene - we will probably not meet him again until after the Grass Attack episode. Seeing that Cabin on the Lake part follows the possible captain's death and is preceded by arrival to the Planet 4, it has to do something with getting Shaw's transmission (Daniels remembering that same Take me home song played on a red vinyl?). And Sails track is probably for re-routing the Covenant, like adjusting the course if they were sailing in the sea. End of rant :-)
[close]

The third act of the movie lends a promise for some non-stop action, hopefully, it will keep the folks in theatres on the edge of their seats!

Guesses on what the tracks are for:

Spoiler
1. Incubation: The scene with David and Weyland

2. The Covenant: Our first shots of the ship and the crew while they're still in cryosleep.

3. Neutrino Burst: Death of Branson

4. A Cabin On The Lake: Aftermath of Branson's death

5. Sails: The discovery of the signal from Shaw

6. Planet 4 / Main Theme: Covenant enters atmosphere of the planet and shuttle launches down.

7. Launcher Landing: Obviously shuttle landing.

8. Wheat Field: Them discovering the wheat. Again, obviously.

9. Spores: Rigby and whoever gets the spore through the nose.

10. The Med Bay: Back Burster scene.

11. Grass Attack: Group gets attacked by Neomorphs before being saved by David.

12. Dead Civilization: They find the remains of the Engineer city.

13. Survivors: Scenes with David and his explanation on how he got here and what happened to Shaw.

14. Payload Deployment: The flashback scene of David annihilating the Engineer city.

15. Command Override: Tennessee goes down to save the remaining members on the planet.

16. Face Hugger: Pretty obvious what this is.

17. Chest Burster: Same with this one.

18. Lonely Perfection: Something with Walter perhaps?

19. Cargo Lift
20. Bring It To My Turf: These two are probably with the final battle on the Covenant.

21. Terraforming Bay: End scene.

22. Alien Covenant Theme: Credits theme.

I don't know the composer and I wonder in what direction that soundtrack will go. Any information about this ?
In Prometheus Gregson-Williams compositions were quite classical and effective. Streitenfeld had a good general inspiration and there are well factured moments (a good progression in the storm scene, for example) and atmospheres, but eventually it followed the materials of an uneven movie according to my expectations.

I loved the music in the prologue so hopefully that'll be in there. Perhaps the one that played in the PL is either the theme or the track entitled "The Covenant"?

2. "The Covenant" is probably David being turned on for the first time and is talking with Weyland. "An agreement between God and his people." Weyland gives David his directives in this scene.

These kinds of releases don't usually contain the entire film score, if the scene has music at all. Alternatively, it could also just be part of one of the existing tracks.

my take

Quote from: Corporal Hicks on Apr 06, 2017, 09:19:34 AM

1. Incubation - obviously, awakening david
2. The Covenant - introduction to the ship and it's mission
3. Neutrino Burst - either the reason for cap's death, but i'm rather expecting a neutrino burst is the communication signal (distress signal)
4. A Cabin On The Lake - the crew deciding they're into that paradisic planet after the signal included a map and they will investigate
5. Sails - obviously the covenant sails out to the new coordinates
6. Planet 4 / Main Theme - arriving at paradise ( i am profoundly interested in why it's called 'planet 4' )
7. Launcher Landing - obviously the dropship setting a course for the planet
8. Wheat Field - the scene from the trailer regarding the wheat fields
9. Spores - the scene from the trailer in getting ear-spored and somebody nose-spored
10. The Med Bay - somebody's sick and gets his back bursted with all mayhem included
11. Grass Attack - the scene in the dark where the crew gets attacked by vicious neomorphs
12. Dead Civilization - David appears and takes some survivors to his lair walking through the burnt corpses of the indigenous people
13. Survivors - the surviving crewmembers, or shaw and some living engineers that are david's victims
14. Payload Deployment - a flashback to what david did to the planet
15. Command Override - david eliminates walter from the equasion and decides to take control over the 'excursion'
16. Face Hugger - disguised as walter leads billy crudup to the eggs, and he gets facehugged
17. Chest Burster - we get treated to more mayhem and stuff going on, whilst also returning to the doom of billy crudup
18. Lonely Perfection - david witnessing his work, or atleast his analyzing, in witnessing the 'perfect organism', and nobody is there to appreciate it
19. Cargo Lift - tennessee arriving to the planet to use a cargo lift to get daniels from the planet to safety
20. Bring It To My Turf - they discover there's a xeno aboard 'his' ship (tennessee), after a crewmember gets hammered in the showers
21. Terraforming Bay - an area (quite large) where daniels will face off a very dangerous threat in her spacesuit, which is in that bay
22. Alien Covenant Theme   - the end of the movie.

1. Incubation

The prologue with
Spoiler
David and Weyland. Instilling David with the ideas that will become his obsession with perfection, though I find that frankly a facile motivation.

Quote4. A Cabin On The Lake

Daniels remembers
Spoiler
her now-dead husband - perhaps they wanted a cabin on the lake.

Quote13. Survivors

David gives his version of his and Shaw's story to the Covenant crew.

Quote15. Command Override

The truth about Shaw - I have begun to suspect she did crash the ship, but who knows.

Quote18. Lonely Perfection

David reveals
Spoiler
his true motives and his grand design with the alien (still not a fan of him being behind this).
[close]

Quote19. Cargo Lift
20. Bring It To My Turf

Likely a line from Tennessee, choosing to use a cargo module or second lander to attempt to rescue Daniels and dispatch the alien.

Quote21. Terraforming Bay

Terraformist Daniels' home environment, where she faces the alien.

I was thinking that the name Planet 4 may be one of these:

1) Possibly the 4th planet in that specific solar system??
2) The 4th planet that the engineer civilization has colonized??
3) The crew call it that as sort of like when someone discovers something that person names it??
4) Or via holo recording Shaw reveals it to be the planet name... as in LV-223 called by them to be planet 3???

I'm hoping that we'll be hearing some definite electronic, visceral vibes from the score, intertwined with classical composition. Terrific example of what I'd love to hear above. Strange, otherworldly sounds implying terror. Very much in line with Goldsmith's score.

Terraforming Bay...Ok, wild theory. The Juggernaut in this movie is indeed the same one from the first film. The engineer's ability to Terraform was mentioned in a script for Prometheus. That's how shaw hooked weyland on the expedition. That incidents throughout history (the great flood) were the result of Engineer Terraforming. So Daniels (maybe knowing little about the alien's ability to withstand harsh environments) uses the technology to destroy the planet (or at least make it as unstable/hostile as possible) in an attempt to destroy all traces of david and his creations, and prevent any future human interest. Paradise then becomes Hell.

In the pray trailer, it appears the covenant is heading down towards the planet surface. That coupled with the earlier pics of daniels and a male companion seen on the surface standing back to back holding weapons, has me thinking they've escaped back up to the covenant, survived the on-board mayhem, then set down near the end of the movie, with Daniels planning to use either engineer technology, or overload some kind of terraforming tech on the covenant to destroy everything. As for the body in the original derelict, Maybe David planned to blast earth, but shaw's hologram show's how to over-ride the system to fire right there on paradise, but she disappeared or was killed mid-attempt. An infected Daniels enters the seat an initiates the sequence, before succumbing to the final and perfect form of David's Alien, i.e. the Chestburster.

The derelict then sits on the wind swept hill, paradise destroyed, the hole in the floor, the Alien queen laying her eggs. Waiting for something to come along. Who knows, maybe David survived long enough to activate the beacon. Maybe he found a way to get his creation to earth anyway.

The ships (Juggernaut) that appear in Prometheus and Alien Covenant are not the same as the Derelict from Alien. There are many differences between both designs. For example the Derelict doesn't have hypersleep chambers in the bridge, the ship's interiors are biomechanical, there is an absence of Engineers flight suits on the corridors, there is no command console (like the one that Shaw is operating on the TV spot) in the bridge of the Derelict and the shape of both spacecraft, although similar, is different:

That can all be explained away by Ridley Scotts intentions. At this point there is no way to definitively prove they're not (or are) the same ship. Have to wait for the films to come out.

Yep, only time will tell. If we are luckily enough, there will be some clues about that lone Engineer from LV-426 in the sequels of Covenant.

No, what I mean is that this track is probably a bonus track consisting of purely the main theme, while the other track called Planet 4/Main theme has the main theme in it, but also has other music.

A lot better than the Prometheus theme, which was just...

This theme was pretty good. Opening was a nice throwback, the ending was sufficiently ominous, the middle was completely forgettable.

Not bad, not exactly mind-blowing. About what I was expecting. The Alien nods are nice but it's still a little bland. Probably not the best taste of the score overall given the length.

Reminds me 'The Gift' by Elliot Goldenthal (Sphere theme). One of my favorite theme.

Sphere popped into my head as well.

It does sound a bit condensed. Not at all "bad". And sure, easily reminds one of the original Alien's score. Not a bad thing, either.

This film IS going to kick ass.

Hmmmm... it's just a wee bit too throwback for me. I like the opening melody as there is just a small hint of both Alien and Aliens familiarity in it but the strings section is just too on the nose throwback to Goldsmith.

That closing bass note is nice though - slightly reminiscent of Alien3.

The music really changed the whole vibe of movie for me. Not in a bad way either. I haven't felt any excitement for this movie until I heard this track. As big of a fan as I am of the alien franchise (25 years now, Holy crap!) I now feel the promising gut sensation that this will honestly be the film I've been waiting for since I was a child in 1997.

You do realize that classical composers (Baroque, Classical, Romantic, early 20th century, and modern) rip each other very directly all the time. Call it a musical palimpsest.

Whilst admittedly I'm not an expert in classical music or its history, I was referring to its use in general. They could've been more experimental and tried to give the film its own identity instead of relying on what worked previously. I'm not saying its bad, I'm just saying it feels safe.

I believe Kurzel's score needs to stand up to Goldsmith's and Goldenthal's scores. Both were menacing and melodically beautiful and neither really lets go of your ears. I have my own issues with Horner's score for Aliens. Streitenfeld's score for Prometheus, while very beautiful - I listen to it often, just didn't convey enough darkness. It was a tad too bright and uplifting and having a darker score could've complimented what was on screen much better.

I keep hoping we hear that tribal humming song in the score for Covenant that was used for the second trailer. It was primal, atmospheric, and looming.

I absolutely adore that small piece of music. While a movie is never a break or make for me due to its soundtrack, the score is what makes the Alien movies truly whole for me. This one reminds a bit of the part where the Engineer plays the flute in the Orrery scene while it totally harkens back to the original score for Alien.

Can't wait to give the full thing a listen!
Title: Re: Alien: Covenant Soundtrack *possible spoilers*
Post by: Le Celticant on Apr 14, 2017, 12:36:58 PM
Does really fit to the arc of an "adventure" like Lawrence Of Arabia.
But I don't think it fits anything resembling Alien.

If the film turns out to be a pretty adventurous film with discoveries of a new world where the horror aspect is a stepback I'm okay.
But if the film is an horror film like Ridley said it'll be, I think it's way too off and I don't think it'll fit.
Just like Prometheus. It felt right sometimes but it also felt very off in many places. The Epic side of the track was there but the horror tracks were passable.
Title: Re: Alien: Covenant Soundtrack *possible spoilers*
Post by: SpeedyMaxx on Apr 14, 2017, 12:43:23 PM
I mean, let's be fair: Alien has large sections of very romantic, haunting score that is not explicitly horror-oriented. I've never been able to get most of that out of my head when it comes to the franchise, it's that good. It ends on a classical piece, The Romantic, equally haunting, beautiful and emotional. It even pillages heavily from an (excellent) existing film score for John Huston's Freud (deeply underrated film, BTW).

If a franchise film did any of that today this forum would call it bargain basement, derivative and too cheap and uncreative to come up with its own material. See the double standard?
Title: Re: Alien: Covenant Soundtrack *possible spoilers*
Post by: Le Celticant on Apr 14, 2017, 12:53:36 PM
But alien never went "Epic" full strengh.
Aliens did, if it plays out in that category I'm alright.
I don't have the film on screen yet but, I have concerns.

The Alien main theme is very haunting though

It's not that it has a "horror" genre music, but it generates enough of an identity for the film.
Wether it's mystery, worry, everyone's susceptible in its own way.

Prometheus and this track seems more to fit in the "history book" tale to be honest.
Then I understand, it's kind of what he wants by the look of it.
But even for that then, it's nothing very impressive, I'll surely forget it.

I could swear the soundtrack from Resurreciton actually incorporated some of Goldsmith's themes back in the day too, near the end of the film as they were escaping - I remember loving that touch in the theater when I was a teenager. But I may have been imagining it.

Either way, it's always lovely to hear it woven in.

What's so special about it...?  ???

I mean, it sounds fine, but it's mostly music from Alien with some new elements thrown in. Though I'm sure the rest will sound more original.

why are you here again?
Oh come on. I can say whatever I want. It's my opinion. Just because I have some mild criticism doesn't mean I'm not allowed to post about it here, right?

I know, it's a joke. should have posted a smiley, sorry for giving a faulty image from what i meant. (y)

Offtopic; remember that Fox intro from was it Alien3 or A:R ? where the fox logo's 'tadatada ta daaa' at the end turned into a horrorish tone from the alien universe? i think that was one of the coolest transitions ever from company sponsorship ever

Reminds me of the greatest piece of music in any Alien film, ever.

Alien3's music piece was outstanding. Very depressing and emotional. Really breathed a lot of 'life' into the movie.

Urgh.  I absolutely hate it.  It's a bad remix of Jerry Goldsmith's original score for 'Alien', spliced with the opening music sting from 'Gremlins' (a soundtrack also by Goldsmith) - @3.22...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kh9MntLiaV4&t=3m22s

Yet more nostalgia based 'member berries...

"Ooohhhh. 'Member Jerry Goldsmith's 'Alien' theme?"

"Oooh, yeah. I 'member that!"

I would have infinitely preferred a totally original soundtrack for this movie.  After all, that's what gave us the fantastic scores to 'Aliens' and 'Alien 3'.  The sooner this nostalgia craze ends; the better, in my opinion.  Here's hoping the rest of the soundtrack has a little more class than this.

^ Yeah, I kinda agree.

Though I wouldn't say it's bad. I still like it. It's just not very original. But we've only heard two tracks, so who knows. The rest could be brilliant, for all we know.

Totally original scores? IIRC Aliens repurposed elements of Horner's other scores - he did that a lot throughout his career - but hey, let's not quibble.

Like it or not Alien is now a massive franchise. These films are prequels. It only makes sense for a prequel more closely tied to Alien than the rest to use elements of the classic Goldsmith score. I think damning the film for it is ridiculous, and I am far from this film's biggest booster.

Truth.

For all we know, this could be the extent of Alien material being reincorporated, like the droplet of the theme used in the briefing in Prometheus. Honestly though, I hope it isn't.

Yes and Ridley Scott repurposed Jerry Goldsmith's score from 'Freud' for the awakening from hypersleep sequence in 'Alien' (much to Goldsmith's chagrin).  It's not quite the same as taking an existing soundtrack from the same series though and I fail to see the point, other than coasting on sheer nostalgia.  Is the Nostromo theme now just a general spaceship theme in the 'Alien' universe?  I guess not because it was also used for Weyland's hologramatic speech in 'Prometheus'.  So what exactly does this melody signify in terms of thematics?  Perhaps it's the theme for Weyland/Weyland-Yutani?!  I don't know and quite honestly, I doubt the composers/Ridley Scott do either.  I suspect it really was just repurposed for nostalgic reasons.  Thematics/significance of use... this stuff matters.

Quote from: SpeedyMaxx on Apr 18, 2017, 06:29:47 PMLike it or not Alien is now a massive franchise.

Aye, to be fair; I don't like that it's become a "franchise".  I preferred it when it was art.

Where did I say that I was damning the film entirely?  I merely said that I hated this particular track, for the reasons which I stated.  That has little bearing on whatever my overall thoughts on the film will be.  It works both ways, you know? It would be equally silly to say "I think praising the film for liking this one solitary track is ridiculous".  I'm 100% fine with other people enjoying the track; good for them I say but the fact that such a sentence hasn't been said towards the positive reception and only in response to my negative feelings towards the track reveals your bias towards liking the track and not liking people whom don't share your opinion.

Aren't people allowed to have their own viewpoints?  Can't we just respect each others views without resorting to calling out differing thoughts as "ridiculous"?  I respect those whom like this track.  I merely ask that my own opinion (and another, whom was asked "what are you doing here?" in this thread) be equally respected.

He used a lot from Freud. He also rolled the credits to Howard Hansons Romantic Suite. If I remember right I think he convinced FOX to buy the rights to Freud's music so they could do that.

Now while I like they included Goldsmith's Alien Music....What I really wanna know is if they are gonna sample Freud or even the Howard Hanson suite for the credits.

Examples:
Freud Music (Used When Dallas Dies in the Airshaft)

Howard Hansons Romatic Suite (Credits Music)

Personally, I hope not.  Again, it would be nice if they go with a different classical piece for the credits instead of just repeating themselves, in my opinion.  That was one of the things I liked about 'Prometheus'; the use of 'Raindrop Prelude' during the credits.  Shame about the proceeding film, even if it did have some positives.

I think the music is fitting for the movie it's scored for. Alien Covenant is a blend of old and new in itself. Taking fresh ideas and blending it with Alien. Perhaps this will be the only track with a nod. Like how Prometheus used the same music cues for the Weyland hologram scene.

I wasn't aware the Gregson-Williams actually scored Covenant. I mean, I know he was brought on to originally compose the score, but his whole dismissal from the film was abrupt.

I don't think this will all be rehashed. It's confirmed that there are some callbacks to Goldsmith's score (in keeping with the whole Alien re-branding of this very Prometheus-esque story), but I think that there is some original material in there for sure. I think that we will be in for a surprise for sure.

Well, someone named "musicians son" did post some very tame spoilers after being shown a few scenes. I can't see him being fired for that unless he was not supposed to be shown those scenes in the first place or, even less likely, also the source of the set picture leak.

The official reason the composer was sacked was that he wasn't the right fit for the material. Funnily enough, the Wikipedia page for the movie was edited to claim that the composer left because he thought the movie was bad. I assumed that was the son's work and edited it out.

Isolation is the way to go if you want to bring back the terror of Alien.

*Room at Fox's studios Sydney*

Producer: *shows Ridley Scott a few minutes of Alien:Isolation game-play*
So, what do you think Ridley?
Ridley Scott: *white as a ghost*
                  Bloody hell....

For the time being, I've downloaded this and added it to my iTunes. I think I'm gonna throw the track in Garageband later and see if I can extend it somehow. 42 seconds is just too short! If I like the end product, I'll post a link to it in this thread later :]

Although, I'm thinking because that video has been on YouTube for a month and hasn't yet been taken down, it probably isn't part of the soundtrack :[ Regardless, I'll post my version later.

New description
QuoteThis is a great surprise. It's above all an homage and a kind of re-reading of the Goldsmith that uses and has fun with its theme. What is 100% Kurzel (half of the album) sails between dark and anguishing sound design, closer to the Prometheus style. And two pieces of agressive action that remind a little Alien 3. Really great job.

I hope they at least play a few notes of some of the themes from Prometheus, or variations/progressions of them.  That's all they really need.  It would be kind of odd if they referenced Alien so much but not Prometheus whatsoever.
Title: Re: Alien: Covenant Soundtrack *possible spoilers*
Post by: Evanus on Apr 24, 2017, 08:53:51 AM
^ Yeah, agreed. I have a feeling it's not happening, though.

They probably want to move away from Prometheus as far as possible, right now.
Title: Re: Alien: Covenant Soundtrack *possible spoilers*
Post by: cliffhanger on Apr 24, 2017, 11:20:24 AM
I think that we're in for an opening that has the same sound as the theme from prometheus, and opening to the weyland-david conversation. then we flip to the covenant ship with the 'covenant theme' in it.
Title: Re: Alien: Covenant Soundtrack *possible spoilers*
Post by: Evanus on Apr 24, 2017, 12:04:40 PM

the absolute moment when the juggernaut passes through the mountains and we see the scorpionaut, there is a very short moment of the prometheus theme, but it is from the trailer music. you know, that repetitive 'alarm'.

or am i just completely hearing impaired here?
