Title: Order was dispatched 5 days before release!
Post by: Xenoscream on Oct 02, 2014, 11:23:45 PM
So I got a notification around 4pm my order of AI was dispatched... so it seems there is a good chance it could actually turn up tomorrow or on sat as RM 1st class. Exciting.

I am insanely jealous, you lucky git.  I'm really hoping that my copy will turn up early as well.  However, knowing my luck (and Royal Mail), it'll probably get lost in a depot, never to be seen again (think the warehouse from the end of 'Raiders of the Lost Ark').

If your copy does turn up early, be sure to let us all know what you think of the game, Xenoscream.

Thanks for making my next 5 days feel increasing longer.  :'(  But, if you do have a chance for a spoiler free review that would be much appreciated.  8)

Well mine hasn't arrived today :-( Unless parcels come separately from mail?

I guess the good news is that in theory I should be getting it tomorrow, in which case I'll be playing all day Sunday as Sat I have the GF over.

If that all ends up happening I'll start a thread and do a spoiler free fan review for 1-X hours that I play and post it Sunday evening.

Be thankful you aren't in Australia.. have to wait until the 9th of October Australian time, which is the evening of the 8th in the USA.
USA gets it earlier than I.
Plus I will have to wait until after work to pick it up. So it will be a Thursday night gaming session, then more on the Friday night after work.

Hahaha it's arrived!!!

Super excited will play it tonight.

Also I'm on ps4 and I will be streaming live on twitch with the share function: mrtomski.

I haven't streamed before so I'm going to do it as video only, so you won't hear me but if anyone wants to see the game they can log on, I'll be playing from about 30 mins time until later this evening (uk time)

I'll let you know how it goes when I pack it in tonight :-)

OK boys now streaming, wont be able to see comments as I don't want to spoil my own immersion, let me know if anyone checks it out!

We're still waiting in fact. For some reason they are taking this long to send it to us which is really unfortunate. One would think the largest Alien online community would be a priority to CA but oh well.

I think it is adressed mate. I read it somewhere on here recently. I hope it's a plot point that we're working toward answering during the game.

Oh it's addressed about mid-game and like Darkness said... I promise you it will be one of the highlights of the game... simply amazing.

I gave the game at 8.5/10 on my last post, shortly before this section, during that section I decided it was a 10/10.

Guys you are going to LOVE IT!

Oh and in regards to that Last survivor DLC. You don't start out right after Ripley sets the self destruct. Rather,
Spoiler
you hear Parker over the radio telling you that he's getting coolant. Cue the scene from the movie where Parker and Lambert are killed. Only in your case it's off screen. You do get to see Lambert's body though. That burning question? Well, the alien just sort of kills her and her body is laying slightly elevated off of a crate box, with a leg dangling off the end. The placement of the bodies isn't exact as it was in the movie, even though the positions are. I'm not sure if you're supposed to find Dallas and Brett coccooned, because wouldn't you know it, as soon as I turned the corner, Mr. Dickhead spotted me and ran like a bitch under a table!

I've been playing it today and so far I like it. One thing is bugging me though, a random white dot that appears on the centre of the screen, usually over character models and closed actions like opening a door. Has anyone else noticed this? Why is there? It goes away once you aim the revolver or look away from a character or terminal, seems weird.
Title: Re: Order was dispatched 5 days before release!

The white dot is just to help you see the middle of the screen / what you are pointing at.

It hasn't bothered me, you may be able to turn it off in the options, haven't checked.

Barely into the game and it's already scared me a couple of times.  Haven't had this many jump moments since watching the original Alien when I was a kid.  Awesome game all around so far and a completely different beast compared to A:CM (which, unlike many, I actually enjoyed in parts).

I'm not sure about the other consoles/platforms, but on the xbox360 there was some sort of "alien isolation mini game" on the dashboard. I played through it; it took about 5 minutes. Kinda cool, and provided only what I can assume to be a little bit of back story (I have isolation, but I haven't been able to play it just yet). The best part was, when I completed the mini game I was awarded with a free "promo theme" so now my xbox's home screen is alien themed! Pretty sweet! There's also 2 free "alien isolation gamer pic" packs available through the Xbox live market place.

I spent a good while on the game last night, and first impressions were very good indeed. Bloody terrifying even before I got anywhere near the Alien.

However, something then happened that spoiled it a bit, and to me it seems like a pretty major glitch. It occurred on the third mission, after you use the Sevastopol's transit system for the first time:
Spoiler
After finally meeting the Alien for the first time, I have to backtrack and hack the big door in the main lobby to proceed, except it's being guarded by four or five armed men, and after being stuck for literally an hour I decided to have a glance at a guide online. Turns out the Alien should've showed up and killed them all, and I then have to dodge just the Alien and hack the door. In fact, as I enter the room, I can actually hear the gunshots and screams as the Alien tears them apart, but when I get inside, the people are still there patrolling, and there's no Alien. With them there it's impossible to proceed because no matter what I do they spot me while I'm trying to hack the door. I've tried reloading and the same thing happens every time. From what I've read the Alien's appearance here is a scripted event, but it won't trigger :( Any ideas?

Ohhh yes I know the bit you are talking about:

Spoiler
So it's when you are on a balcony right, and in the central lobby are a bunch of people, and the door is just where you pick up the hacking device? I can confirm the alien did turn up and kill them all in my game, didn't seem that scripted though, but a gunshot should be enough to make it appear so if that's not working sounds bugged. Try going back down the stairwell etc to try and trigger the script again. At least you are not too far into the game :-s

Just had another idea, there are some rewire panels, you could try triggering an alarm with one of them and the humans should go over and investigate, might buy you enough time to do the hack, there is one on the right hand side of the balcony near the stairs.... good luck!

Spoiler
It was amazing right??! The moment the flashback begins and you are in the suits I guessed what was about to happen and was so happy, I thought it was done so well and the perfect fan service. I also had a close look at the SJ and it's exactly like in Alien, i.e. no Prometheus influence there at all... it's the scene I think we have all wanted to "be in" and I'm so stoked they put it in the game

That's the part.

Spoiler
I've tried shooting. (I actually tried to take the guys on in a firefight at one point. It went well...) I've tried distracting them. Then when I learned the Alien should've been there I've tried running back and forth and reloading a few times. It was late so I gave up in the end, but I'm hoping loading an earlier save might help. It's a shame because up to that point I was loving it!

Is it actually possible to load an earlier save? On the PS4 it seems you can only have one save and keep overwriting it... it's make the game even more tense for me. :-/

Whenever I've died it comes up with "load current save" and "load previous save". I've never had cause to try the latter, but I'm assuming it will be my previous save point.

Otherwise I may have to start over :(
Title: Re: Order was dispatched 5 days before release!

Ahhh I see.... I should probably stop saving every 15 seconds in that case, would hate to get stuck as well :-s

I think you should try stealth again though... distractions should buy you about 15 secs... fighting generally = instant death in this game. Good luck!

Playing PC version. Didn't have any problems there. Alarm went off. Xeno cąme out of the vent. Went away. After a minute of sweating I went after it/him/her, heard the gunshots and by reaching balcony i saw it/him/her killing last of humans. Then wnet into the vent above the doors.
And for the record: The game is best thing I've played since Skyrim and definetly best Alien game. It is even better than I thought it would be and even better than some of the movies (Resurrection I'm looking at you). Sorry about spoiling but I don't how to make a "spoiler" clicking thingy.

I tried all manner of stealthy options, there are just too many people patrolling. Even if some of them get distracted, there's always someone hanging around to spot me.

Like I said, I'll try loading an earlier save and just hope for the best.

You can lure some of tchem by rewiring speakers. One or two should come to investigate and then...the wrench time ;)

OK, loading an earlier save worked... and now I immediately wish it hadn't. This game is brown trousers time!

Got carried away playing it last night. lol Damn, it really is scary as hell. I'm absolutely L-O-V-I-N-G it so far. :D

I have a few gripes, though:

1) Firstly, Amanda and the rest of the playable characters don't cast any shadows. Which is a major no-no for this type of game.

2) There should be animations where your character visibly reaches and picks up items and opens cases.

3) The bright orange highlights that indicate an object can be interacted with are overkill and breaks the immersion. Something more subtle would be appreciated.

Other than these, my mind is blown. ;)

Well I'm impressed, just escaped the medical centre and this game is everything I could of asked for. The lighting in this game is just perfect. Blue flashes with yellow warning lights whirling around as all he'll breaks loose. Epic music which makes your heart race and palms sweat. And the alien which looks and sounds stunning. Well done creative assembly.

Additionally I like the fact the AI is unpredictable, it makes dying less frustration and you next run through will be different. The circular design of the levels allows you to try all sorts of differnt options.

I've just got to the medical centre, got an inner jaw punched into my face, decided that was all my nerves could take this evening, switched off :)

I laughed my ass off at that, I think there is an audio recording or email a bit later from that guy...

Spoiler
Which mentions one of the Joe's near him standing next to the magazine rack lol!

I have both the bonus levels, but I'm steering clear of them until I've finished the main campaign.

Also forgot to mention that I found a recording last night made by Dallas before the Nostromo left Thedus, discussing the replacement of his usual Science Officer with Ash, and how he wasn't happy about it. That was a nice touch.

Why? They both take place before the main game anyway.

If my game ever comes in the mail my plan is to play those first.

Because I'm just much more interested in the campaign.

Plus I'd rather experience the introduction to the Alien that you'll get in singleplayer, rather than presumably being thrown straight in with it in the bonus levels.

Damn, This game is everything I could have asked for. The emergent gameplay is just fantastic

Just got through San Christobal medical center and my nerves are really thin right now. I have no idea how many times I have died in there, but I wouldn't have it any other way. The best moment by far was hiding in an airvent and didn't dare to move. The alien knew I was somewhere and walked around my location and the airvents around me opened and closed all the time. Just sat there for five minutes in pitch black darkness and not turning on the light because I was afraid it would get me. Finally it vent away and I made my move for the doctors keycard.

Never been so scared of a game in a long long time, which is good :-)

My brother tried out crew expendable. He said it was harder than the main campaign, and just as satisfying as an alien experience. He seemed to like the way they've tied it in to the movie too! At one point he spent 5 minutes hiding under a table while the alien searched the room; when it finally left he made a run for the door on the opposite side of the room only to discover it was actually a locker and he accidentally hid inside it instead (it was dark, lol). The noise of the locker attracted the alien again, and it patrolled the room for another several minutes. When it finally left again, it doubled back almost immediately just as he stepped out of the locker and it got him!

I haven't tried the dlc missions yet, because I too wanted to experience the main campaign first... To learn the controls better if nothing else...

There are a lot of unexpected surprises in this game.  I just finished the main campaign.  Honestly, this is apples and oranges to the likes of ACM or even AVP Classic/AVP 2.  This is unlike any Alien game ever made so it's unfair to compare it to the predominantly first person shooter titles of yore.  With that being said, this is one of the most faithful renderings of the Alien universe in video game form, and is by far the scariest and most intense one ever.

The DLC missions are both great fun and extremely challenging.  As is Survivor mode.  Again, this game has plenty of nuggets I never expected, but in a good way, not a "oh man I can't believe the did THAT" way.  Cheers to CA for putting out a great game.

With that said, I wish I had a better system than PS3.  Some glitchiness and framerate issues there.

Forgot to mention, by far my least favorite aspect of the game is the android combat, mainly because they're so damn DIFFICULT to kill, and also because I feel they are overused in the latter half of the game.  Good thing you can adjust difficulty settings on the fly  ;D  I played about the first half of the game on Hard and then had to wimp out and bump it down.

:D I'm getting my ass handed to me there, I spent about fifteen minutes last night hiding in a locker just because I was too scared to step out and have a look around.

Oh, and another time I got stuck behind a door that paused for an eternity before it opened, and then just as it did - skewered from behind.

Just saw the new replies to this thread and re-read it - those were some fun time :-) Really wish they had some some solid single player DLC, would have loved to have some more AI.
