Title: Alien Isolation: PC vs Console Performance
Post by: Darkness on Oct 12, 2014, 03:20:40 PM

isolation Alien: Covenant: One Year Later - AvP Galaxy Podcast #68The guys over at Eurogamer have published an interesting article testing the performance of Alien Isolation across all platforms to see how they compare with each other. The article goes very in-depth about various graphical issues and framerates but here’s the main points:

So there you go. PC, PS4 and X-Box One are generally on par with each other graphically but the PS3 seems to be the worst platform to play the game on. We do have some sort of explanation for the cut-scenes issue that seems to be plaguing everybody and I imagine the next patch will definitely address it.

I'll be getting it for Christmas probably so hopefully all glitches and imperfections will be fixed by then. I'll probably get it on PS3 too. It's either that or PC, and really, I prefer consoles for gaming.

I had to lower thr graphics to bare minimum my laptop and suffered horrible crashing issues. Tried it on my parents desktop and i can run it at medium high with no problems except for some framerate drop. The better graphics definitely make the atmosphere and lighting better. i cant play with film grain on though. it bugs me

Not sure if it is default, but on my Xbox One, the grain was maxed. I was like, "WTF is this crap!" I turned it down to two notches. Makes it look gritty.

Glad to hear that I'm not the only one.

Yep, it is the default setting.  I had the exact same reaction when I booted the game up for the first time (PC version).  I've now set the grain to a much lower setting (virtually turned off).  I don't know what Creative Assembly were thinking with the default setting being so high - it's complete overkill.

If that's the worst of the games problems, I am happy lol. I liked the minor grain. Game lost its dirty, low-fi feel with it off all the way.

Cut scenes work fine for me, I play with vertical sync off, could that be why?

QuotePC is the best platform for Alien Isolation but only just.

lol, pretty sure even the Ps4 can't play this game at 4K and 120 fps, so "but only just" might be a slight overstatement.

Considering the Ps4 is 50% more powerful than the Xb1 and has almost double the bandwidth from metal to screen, kind of surprised it doesn't run more evenly on the ps4.

Played it on xbox one didn't notice stuttering during any cutscene. Some slow down during the final mission

Cut scenes are awful for me on PS4. But CA is aware of this and have said they are working on a fix. So thats good.

And exactly how many people have 4K displays and graphics cards capable of that performance? Not many, I'd say.

Not many now, but by the time IsolAlien finishes her support run that number will be much much larger, as three monitor manufacturers and both major card makers have already committed to a very quick roadmap of 60 and 120HZ 4K skus.

As for 120 frames, flagship cards made from both companies three years ago can hit that easily, and it's actually quite playable on an 8800, a card that's seven years old, at 30 frames.

It's not as pie in the sky as one might think.

I'm not a tech-guy but I have it for Xbox 360...and I'm still coming off the heels of Aliens: Colonial Marines so Isolation looks and feels fantastic to me.

Since A:CM was a slightly better game on the PS3, I figured that the same thing would happen again so I was somewhat surprised to hear that the 360 version is actually better than the PS3 version this time.

loving isolation.the only problem colonial marines had on 360 even though the game is really bad anyway is the screen tearing other than that it performs better on 360 the ps3 version looks a little bit better and only by a fraction the game is the worst aliens game i have ever played order goes alien isolation avp and colonial marines

6 gbs of ram here along with a 2gb HD 6970 and a Phenom II 965 x4 (3.4 ghz). Am able to run the game well at Ultra settings, vertical sync on at 1080p, provided anti-aliasing is off. Once or twice it dipped below 30 fps but usually it played at around 40 to 70 fps. Gotta say I like a game that's properly optimized for PC.

I was really surprised (and pleased) with how well the game ran on my GTX 460 SE with everything on ultra.
Tried playing the game with jankity downsampling on my 1080p display 3840 x 2160. Framerate definitely took a hit, but was still very playable.

this game is good and my personal graphical highlight this year..why .if u are able to play that game with 2560:1440 and more downsampled to full hd with maximum Supersampling max texture filter vsync and everything maxed to the end via ur garphic driver ..then this game has an overall look like a real Animated pixar Film u see on tv. but just with bad mean aliens.. only PC 8)

Oh it definitely is. I can't stand playing the game anymore because of how many times I have to deal with game play and audio lag completely ruining the experience for me. As if that wasn't enough but there's also the occasional floating items in the sky as well as disappearing walls that make me feel like I've been suddenly shot out into space.

To be fair, we're the ones running old consoles but yeah, those kinds of bugs should have been caught at QA testing.

I've decided to give the game a break and wait for a patch to get released. I've been visiting the game's forum site and the creators say that they're still working on a fix to the problems. Hopefully it can get finished and released soon as I still haven't had my full fix of Alien Isolation goodness yet.

Yeah, all seems a bit bizarre. The patch should have been out within the first week, not a month or so later. Maybe they're trying to save money. I heard you have to pay Sony tens of thousands $$$ to release a single PS3 patch.

According to this article it costs a damn load of money.

It's really small potatoes when you think how much revenue a publisher makes from a game. Even something like Isolation isn't going to sell millions of copies but it'll still make Sega a profit. Games are so damn expensive to buy these days.

This game looks fantastic on PS4! I'm very impressed with the visuals. I would love to see CA do another one.

This topic is pointless because the game is locked to 30 fps on both consoles, which eliminates any reason for doing performance comparison. Non capped frame rate on PC against 30 fps cap on the consoles, what comparison you are talking about? ..
