We are happy to announce that we will be doing a Q&A with Gearbox Software about Sega’s Aliens Colonial Marines very soon. Not only that, but we are also giving our readers the chance to get involved and submit their own questions. You are free to ask whatever you want about this upcoming title. Just bear in mind, Gearbox Software and Sega are still working on the game and hence some aspects can't be answered yet.

Alien Isolation (Novel) Review - AvP Galaxy Podcast #96

You have until Sunday, January 29th to send us your questions via this thread on the forum. A selection of the best and most commonly asked questions will be submitted to be answered shortly after that date.

Hello,

Thank you for giving us the chance to do a Q&A.
Here comes my questions:

-Since A:CM is "based" on the Unreal Engine, is there plans for a SDK?
-What does the PC version offers compare to the consoles for this title?
-Can you confirm that working with SEGA is horrible? Just like Monolith had hard time to work with Sierra & Fox Interractive or that relations between Rebellion and SEGA weren't probably on top? :D

Very cool opportunity. Here are my inquiries:

Interviews have mentioned the player gains points to upgrade their character's appearance and weapons. How are these points acquired by the player?

Beyond weapon and appearance will the player have other skills or attributes they can upgrade?

Will there be a skill tree that allows players to tailor their marine to a specific role (smartgunner, medic, scout etc)

When a player drops into the game (as a client) do they take the place of one of the main story characters or are they a custom character?

Will the player have the option to play as a female marine in competitive and/or coop multiplayer?

Can sentry guns be placed in any part of the environment or are there designated drop points as we saw in the demo?

How does the health system work?

How does the death of a player work in coop?

What sort of attacks and the xenomorphs perform on the players?

What sort of options can the players change for the HUD?

What design elements are being used to make multiple playthroughs interesting?

How are levels laid out? Are they more open world (similar to Borderlands or Medal of Honor: airborne)  or linear progression (like left 4 dead or Call of Duty)?

How did that meet up with Ridley Scott happen?

How much did David Weddle and Bradlely Thompson write for A:CM's story and what aspects of the writing is handled by Gearbox?

What role is TimeGate studios playing in A:CM's development?

Will mod tools be released at some point?

What kind of DLC can we expect for A:CM?

Thanks!

Thank you Gearbox! I hope at least one of these questions is deemed worthy.

1. What types of personalization are available, and will these traits carry over into multiplayer?

2. Can we expect any cool DLC? Avatar stuff, new levels, etc.?

3. Is there at least a guestimate of when we can expect release?

4. Is there any truth behind the wonderful collector's edition?

5. Is Fury 161 still a part of the storyline?

6. Will players be able to crouch, etc. during gameplay? (AVP had limited maneuverability)

7. When can we expect to see more trailers, gameplay, artwork, etc.?

If there is Survival multiplayer mode, is it "end wave" based or its fight till you can't take it anymore and you will die for sure no matter what? And can we use some equipment in this Survival - like the power loader and/or the sentry guns? Can we build barricades?

Is the Collectors Edition coming for PC too?

1. What is the level of authenticity? How closely did they stick with the film(s), and how authentic will the game be, they did mention this as being "The Ultimate Aliens Experience" so does that mean we can expect everything to sound and look the same even the doors?

2. Will the PC Version have DX11 support?

What will the pre-order bonus content for the game be?

In the Collector's Edition, there's a DLC that grants you access to certain weapons and a pulse rifle upgrade, could you elaborate on what these are exactly?

What multiplayer modes can we expect?

There's a rumor that there will be playable Aliens in multiplayer, is this true?

I only have one real question, and it is this.

To what extent does this game feature multiplayer cooperative gameplay, and can you play the campaign in co-op mode?

Oh. I heard that loads of original concepts for this game were totally changed (including much of the multiplayer aspects) when Wiederhold left Gearbox in 09.  I guess I'm wrong.  The latest gameplay videos show a LOT of scripted events, so I just assumed that the co-op format had changed.

-Can sentry guns be placed anywhere, or do you have to place it in a set location?
-Why was the Pulse Rifles magazine changed from 95 to 50?
-Will there be references to Aliens Infestation?
-Will there be WY black ops, and if so, do they use the same, or different weapons?
-How many weapons can we expect in game?

-Can we have an estimated release date?

The game isn't a tactical squad based shooter anymore, so no A.I squad commands, but will we be able to give any basic contextual commands to our A.I team-mates like weld door, hack, place sentry etc? More for convenience sake during single player only games.

in the campaign and playing co-op, do the players asume the role of an existing character or do they spawn out of thin air(as seen on the demo)? if no player is controlling this character, can we at least give them basic orders(go there, take weapon, watch direction, asist marine, use equipment)?

will there be segments in which a single alien stalks the player instead of a large horde storming? will there be a variety of xenomorphs or the standard ones will become more challenging? are there brand new xenos, apart from the crusher, or will we see the ones from the other movies make an appearance?

can we expect more stuff from the Colonial Marines Technical Manual to show up, such as demolition/AT weapons, different types of grenades, and vehicles? will there be references to the Korari campaign?

will it all end with a nuke again?

I'm a wee bit older than most whom likely use this website; I first went to the theatre with my parents to see Aliens in 1986; I was 10 at the time.  Since then I have been, well, underwhelmed by the last two movie sequels, disgusted by the ridiculous AVP movies; though I did enjoy the AVP video games.  I enjoyed the games, but I did not care for the story lines.

I am concerned that the incarnation of Aliens: Colonial Marines will be a cartoonish caricature that is more "boom and sizzle," to use an audiophile term, and less a quality story.

Shoot-em-up is great, as with most 1st person shooter games, but without an in-depth story - a powerful emotionally driven story such as with Ridley Scott's Alien or James Cameron's Aliens - I'm afraid this game will simply be another generic shooter, such as what we've seen dozens of times in this genera; a story where the bad guys simply have two mouths and creepy faces.

What parts of the original canon of Alien and Aliens is making it into this game, and what portions are either ignored or rewritten?  If canon is followed (a la Ridley Scott, HR Giger, and James Cameron), is the transition from the movie to this game done in a linear fashion so that one is not required to suspend disbelief or make huge leaps in imagination of story, in order to enjoy the story of the game, or is there a "missing link" to the story that our imagination must fill in?

Final part of the question; are there any voice actors that we will recognize?  Lately, voice acting in video games have become a very popular and lucrative business, such as with Gary Oldman, Kiefer Sutherland, Lance Henrickson, Mark Hamil, et cetera.

Will there be iron sights p.o.v. for all weapons or only some ?

Will there be no HUD ?

Will there be a checkpoint save system ?

Will there be health packs or regenerate health ?

Will CO-OP be playable split screen ?

Will it have Call of Duty control scheme ?

How many weapons can you carry ?

How will ammo be acquired , walking over it, pressing a button to pick it up or do you just find new weapons once your out of ammo ?

Will headset communication be available through CO-OP campaign ?

Will the marines have a option to switch to infer red like in Aliens ?

Will we be able to combine weapons like Ripley did in Aliens ?

Will the aliens spit acid ?

Will we see what happened to Burke ?

Will ACM support stereoscopic 3D PS3 ? I would love it

Will ACM have a connection to what happens in Prometheus ?

How far completed is the game right now, % ?

Is the ACM still scheduled for Spring 2012 release ?

When we beat the game or die, will Hudson pop up on screen and say "Game Over Man, Game Over "

My questions.

Is there a an exact or approximate release date for Aliens: Colonial Marines?

What kind of a multiplayer experience are we to expect?

Would there be special content such as "The Making of Aliens: Colonial Marines"? If yes, would it be automatically available or would you have to complete certain tasks in the game in order to unlock it?

(Perhaps this could be better worded? ? ?) Aliens Colonial Marines claims to be a "sequel" so I imagine there must be focus on good story telling for the single player campaign. Are we to expect 'good' characters? (Protagonist, antagonist, round and flat characters, normative characters, sympathetic characters or foil chracters?)

Will there be any game modes featuring playable Aliens

When is the release date?

I asked a gamestop employee recently about the release date they responded with "if that game ever comes out the skies will open and god will bring copies to the store himself." That being said when can we see new gameplay, or new information, and will there be more advertising for the game?

Oh Good, where can I start?

- What were your struggles/problems in development?
- Do you listen to fan critism and make changes around that?
- Can we use the APC, Dropship, Powerloader?
- Are you adding weapons from the technical manual?
- Do you planning on releasing a demo?
- What do you hope to achieve with A:CM?
- Does MP maps revolve around locations in the game, or do you add some locations from the movies?
- Will the MP be man vs man focused with A.I Aliens, or is there an playable Alien mode idea?

Considering that the public version of the Unreal Development Kit already has an install base of over one million, this title would be the ideal game to take advantage of that user base and permit it to be mod friendly.

Hi, before nothing, let me told you that since I read about this upcoming game, I had a reason to buy a Xbox 360, and well, here´s my questions:

Do you have a release date for the game?

Besides LV-426, there also another locations in the game like Fury 161, the Gateway station, even Earth?

The vehicles like the ACP, Dropship, and Power Loader will be driveable?

How many locations of the Sulaco and the Collony will be avaible?

The achivements´s name for the 360 will have references to the movies like AvP 3?

The content of the Collector´s edition of the game is official?

IF able to play as the alien, will there be the grab and drag? being able to sneak up on a lonely marine/civi and just drag them into a nearby vent to meet their fate? (been wanting that since AVP back on the PC!)

Yes please let this happen, nothing better than dragging some marine away to a corner and looking into his whimpering face just before you headbite him.

Will we have useful A.I marines supporting us or an army of Dietrich's?

Does health regenerate or is there health packs?

A vote for this guys questions.

Also sorry if someone else asked it but...

What are those hideous modern day looking iron sight thingies doing on my precious Pulse Rifle and why have you not lynched the person who put them there?

What possessed you to take alien 3 into account, an absolutely horrible and plot-hole filled mess, and add other alien species? Was the Xenomorph in alien/aliens not good enough for you?

How do you explain the colony surviving a 40 megaton explosion from only a few kilometers away?

*********** i feel this guys question is really important. the title of this has ALIENS on caps lock you can go AESTHETICALLY ANYWHERE with this f**king title ANYWHERE you can expand so much gameplay and intersting first person space with charactor actions, physics, A.I., artistic aproaches, story concepts of the squad and the company and the aliens butting heads, th 4 player co-op- anywhere you can build levels over so many mistakes from the past.  the story like the originals is what drives it- its extremely important, kinda what dragged us here in the first 2 and even the third, im anticipating a decent story and mediocre gameplay ( i would love for that assumption to be a total surprise shotgun blast to the head)

******a BIG question id like to hear back from is will there be Hostile collisions with WEYLAND YUTANI quid-pro quo some shootouts with **the commandos from alien 3** go into affect?????????????????????????????????????????

***other question is if Fox is being a pain in the ass with the production as they always have been kinda like a stroke to this series since 1992. alien 3, alien resurrection, avp, avpR and the avp3 game are all interesting unfinished train wrecks but
the general blue collar AVP Fan that knows true potential arekinda sick of having to go through this formalist excercise to enjoy a half assed production only to stress the imagination to witness a better product in their heads, its kinda come downt o that with this series now adays
hopefully this will be a big relief

If Multiplayer other than Co-Op is present, will it be smaller objective based modes similar to Dead Space 2 and the Left 4 Dead series, will it be larger shoot 'em up similar to Halo or Call of Duty or will it be larger objective based similar to Battlefield 3?

Does the Dev team looks at the general forum feedback preferences for basic game play mechanics such as health system, aiming of weapons, etc or is that all based on what balances best with the game?

I attended Basic Training in the US Army in 1993, where I was trained in the manual of arms of the M-16A1 rifle; mine had been made sometime between 1971 and 1972, and was originally issued and carried in the field in Vietnam, before being returned to Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, where it was subsequently used for almost 20 years to teach military marksmanship to basic trainee's.  Having come from a competitive shooting background, I was familiar with iron sights, glass optics, and the first generation of electronic sights; I was disappointed that the only one's we had available at the time were iron sights.

Over the next few years I moved through 3rd and 2nd tier specialties, where electronic sights such as the AN/PVS 4 were routinely available, and I learned a very, very valuable lesson; to whit, when all the batteries go dead, and the optics glass is broken, iron sights still work, and the enemy gets dead.

I have always kept a set of "co-witness" iron sights in my pockets since that time, in case I was using a weapon that did not normally go into the field with iron sights, such as "flat-top" designated marksman carbines and the like.

I rather like iron sights.

I too dislike Alien 3 ("Resurrection" should be put down with a stake through the heart, and the director should be castrated so that he cannot poison a new generation in the way he did this franchise) from a plot standpoint.  I did appreciate (through the "directors cut") the fact that the Alien looked different as a result of being born either from a dog (as in the theatrical release) or an Ox (Directors cut), and as such I can see how they might make themselves seen in Hadley's Hope, as I'm sure there were a few animals kept as pets in such a setting.

I do not hold with creating new "castes" of Aliens for the purpose of "boss fights;" the Alien is tough enough; the only boss they need is the Queen...

How do you explain the colony surviving a 40 megaton explosion from only a few kilometers away?

My specialty in the Army dealt with Atomic Demolition Munitions; planning on their deployment and use as area denial weapons, infrastructure demolition, et cetera.  I can tell you for sure and certain that any structure of sufficient strength, close to the ground and close to GZ, will survive a surface detonation of any size atomic or thermonuclear weapon; ground attenuation robs the mach stem of energy and deflects the dynamic overpressure upwards; a surface or near-to-surface detonation of a nuclear weapon is incredibly wasteful, and as seen many times such as during the Plumbob tests at the NTS, does little more damage than a conventional explosive.

The purpose of airburst detonations is to kill large concentrations of troops with the initial nuclear radiation, destroy large areas by dynamic overpressure, and to render large areas immediately uninhabitable (area denial) due to induced radioactivity in the soil, building, etc.

But even then, buildings that are low to the ground and made of steel reinforced concrete, and which are outside the actual GZ, are likely to survive in fairly decent condition.

There's nothing magical about a nuclear explosion; its the same as a conventional one, as far as the physics go, except for the inclusion of fission/fusion byproducts and the initial nuclear radiation.

Fun fact; in a two stage weapon (fission/fusion - aka "fusion boosted") should the fireball not actually come in contact with the ground, there will be no fallout; as fallout is nothing more than earth (and other stuff like that) which is drawn up into the radioactive detonation, but cannot fission, and is caused to become spontaneously radioactive, as a result of neutron/gamma caused instabilities of normally stable isotopes.  A fusion boosted weapon is exceptinally "clean" and the only serious health effects for those coming into the area at a later time result from spontaneously transmorgrafied elements in the soil, buildings, etc; most can be removed by washing and scrubbing, or removing topsoil.

And then there are ER/RB weapons.. which do no damage by dynamic overpressure; their entire design is to kill by enhanced radiation, and to leave infrastructure and buildings completely intact.

Sorry, I get a little long-winded sometimes.

somebody mentioned the smartgun and how it would be implemented and i think that's a very good question. in the AVP games there were more like smart bullets, not a smartgun. so i wonder if the weapon will have that clunky and powerful feel of a motorcycle straped to our chests that moves around violently as it tracks it's target, instead of the directed hose we've seen so far.

i made a drawing so you can just opt not to attempt to interpret my argument:

and i though the iron sights were included in the carrying handle of the rifle ala AR-15, i don't see the need of those huge things. they look like they could poke your eyes out.

AR-15's and M-16's are different animals.  Yes, the basic design is the same, and aesthetically you can make either one look like the other, but the M-16 is no longer issued; the replacement is the M-4 carbine (semi-auto only) and they typically come with a flat-top (picatinny rail) design, where any optics wanted or issued may be used; such as ACOG, AN/PVS4, FLIR, et cetera.  I always keep a set of removable front and rear sights in my pocket in case my optics take a crap.  I prefer the C-MORE brand, and my personal iron optics are from Noveske.

I have a "surprise, Cock-Fag" dust cover on my rifle; also courtesy of Noveske.

being the common ancestor of the M-16, XM-177, M-4 and etcetera, i refer that family of guns as AR pattern rifles, like you would call an AKM, AK-74U, AK-105, RPK and all that AK style rifles.

what i mean is, AR guns (used to)have their sights in a trench on top of the non removable carrying handle, and so did the pulse rifle:

i know it's because they might be too closed for a game, but they could just eliminate the zoom and center the weapon model into the face without reducing the field of view.

Ok, here are some of my questions:

As a guess, when will it come out?

Will we see the derelict ship and the space jockey?

Will the UPP be involved in A:CM like in Aliens Infestion?

Will the runner alien appear? What about the praetorian alien? Any others?

Any new weapons?

Any new vehicles? Any useable ones?

Will the blood effects get cleaned up (ie. they won't look cartoonish)?

How will it tie into Alien3 (ie. HOW DID THE EGGS GET ON THE SULACO?)

Sweet! This is a great opportunity! I understand Gearbox can't answer all questions since the game is under development still but please answer what you can.

1.) With A: CM will there be any other types of Xenomorphs rather than the ram we saw in the demo game-play?

2.) Will there be marine customization for single player/multiplayer?

3.) Is there currently and exact date the game will be released, if not exact date then month please?

4.) What will the multiplayer include like a type of Deathmatch between Marines vs. Marines or Marines vs. Xenomorphs, and what game modes so far.

5.) Will there be a Firefight mode like in Halo:Reach?

6.) Will acid from the Xenomorphs be able to burn through the game's environment like a wall for floor?

7.)  Will the Xenomorph model be similar to the movie Aliens by James Cameron, or will they be similar to those in Aliens vs. Predator?

8.) Will there be a theater like mode where we can go back and review the recent game for like a video we want to put on Youtube?

9.) Are there any androids in the Campaign like Bishop or a new android, er I mean Artificial Person...

10.) Will Lance Henriksen or Sigourney Weaver be involved in voice recordings for 1st person accounts or video even of their characters like Ripley and Bishop?

11.) Will there be a beta or demo released soon?
That is all I have Gearbox. I'm really hoping this is going to be the greatest Alien game ever released...

I understand what you're referring to, however there are different incarnations of carrying handles and sights within them, such as the difference between the A1 and A2 sights, the A3 removable sight block, the M4 picatinny rear rail and gasblock rail, etc.  On the "AK" series, the only thing even remotely similar is within the Russian variants of shoulder fired weapons; the AKM, RPK's. etc, had completely different sight patterns.

Not that this means anything; its just interesting shop talk.

On the sights for the "pulse rifle," the donor rifle used for the movie prop was an M1921A1 Thompson SMG; heavily done up with movie makeup; similar to the rifle used in the Starship Troopers movie, which is a plastic host "kit" made by a company called "Muzzelite," which , in my never to be humble opinion, and after having owned one for the Mini-14, is a piece of crap; the trigger is THE WORST EVER, but its fun to look at and to play with.  http://www.bullpupgunstocks.com (http://www.bullpupgunstocks.com)

I'm pretty sure it was a mini-14 version that was used; I'm sure a quick Dr. Google search would turn up more than what I can remember, and I'm just too lazy to do that right now.

Anyway, being a regular shooter for business, I rather like iron sights, and I enjoy shooter games in which they're available.

Thanks!

talking to a very basic level here, i know there are countless type of sights for every need purpose and taste as it is the case with any weapon component ever, but the important thing is that the Pulse Rifle did had it's iron sights, unlike the Morita, which wasn't built for a movie with the most realistic approach to firearms anyways.

the Morita is indeed a Muzzelite mini-14. it's a weapon that shows up very often in sci fi movies from the 90's, like Predator 2 and total recall.

and i'm of shooting tradition so i really enjoy iron sights too, but only when they are done right, with the weapon correctly aligning itself to the line of sight, not some weird overlay with magical zooming eyes that happens so often. their main benefit for me is a quick and easy adquisition and tracking of targets while keeping a decent peripherical view with both eyes open, putting the gun irrealistically close to the face ruins that.

Have to correct you on the Thompson that was used for the PR, it was a M1A1. Both the 1921 and 1928 Thompsons had the cocking handle on the top of the receiver of the weapon on those models. The M1 had the cocking handle on the side of the receiver like the PR does.

As for the sight of the PR, the A:CMTM saids its a U type back sight, something like a red dot, reflex or holo type sight, not needing a front post to align on target. (I can look up the exact wording and post if you would like)

As for a question. I'm wondering if they're still planning on the PR having a RoF (Rate of Fire) selector switch. It was shown in the old Game Informer article that the PR would have Safe - Semi - 4 round Burst - Full Auto. Is that still being included in A:CM?

Also is the Smartgun going to have active switchs to, RoF and the Super or Delay round settings?

I'm not a Thompson guy; I've never fired one.  Or a 1919 variant.  Or even a BAR military variant; though I do have a BAR in .30-06 (1964 manufacture - semi-auto only, designed as a hunting rifle and made by FNH Belgium, as all Browning weapons of that era were).  I have never gotten off on the 'giggle switch' that so many people just seem to love.  Semi-auto fire - aimed fire, is much more effective than the 'spray and pray' method of recon-by-fire seen in all conflicts up through Grenada.  I'd rather have, and have served in such a capacity, two or three designated marksmen attached to an MCM squad with a heavy weapons team providing fire support for fire-and-maneuver actions that are necessary when suppressing incoming fire so that an obstacle can be created or breached.

Yes, Combat Engineers have heavy weapons squads in every company; typically attached to the mobility/counter mobility platoon.

What was my point?

Ah hell, now I don't remember.  Guess I'll go to bed then. :)

What prevented development of a playable single-player Alien campaign? Or is this being considered for future downloadable content?

Cameron's film made it ambiguous whether flamethrowers had any effect on the adult creatures. The first film had one hit by hot plasma exhaust and the third showed an Alien submerged in molten lead - both without apparent damage. With this in mind, will flamethrowers be practically useless? If not, why not?

Due to the chaotic nature of how radiation creates mutated genetic disorders, if there are multiple 'Crushers', how will their uniform appearance be explained?

Considering the inclusion of a 'Scout' class, what will be the explanation for why only 'Warriors' were shown during the events of the film?

Will the capability of Aliens to transform hosts into eggs in the absence of a Queen (possibly to produce one), as depicted in Ridley Scott's film, be depicted/hinted at?

Can motion trackers be spoofed?

The APC and dropship are famous, but will we see new types of military vehicles?

The fact they are doing a Q&A already mean advertising.  ::)
And more is obviously going to come soon. Business...
We thought the same thing during E3, "oh cool trailers, and gameplay, things are starting to pick up!" followed swiftly by 6(?) MONTHS OF SILENCE.

Can we get a multiplayer Demo?  ;D

How will the multiplayer in a vs scenario work out? Will it be Marines vs Marines? Or will we actually get to play as special aliens? It is well known that the multiplayer side of things usually makes the games life a lot longer.

Can you feed us anything more to wetten our taste buds. Like another cinematic or 2? Or perhaps another 20 min game play video of the beginning.

Will it actually keep up with the idea of horror? Or will it be more of an action game? Keep in mind I mean real horror like the first movie. It needs to be more horror style than cinematic (In my opinion).

Can you release any info on the other Alien game that is under construction? The one that is supposed to be rival to the likes of Dead Space. I really am looking forward to that!  :D

What will be the difficulty curb? Will it be beginner friendly or is it for the hardcore crowd?

Will the Runner from Alien 3 make a cameo (even if only as an enemy grunt or mini boss)?

How will the mechanics on acid blood be done here? Will it just drain health or will it cause permanent damage to the player and/or environment or something along those lines?

Are there any super secret easter eggs for 100% completion like the Insomniac Museum in the Ratchet and Clank games (like say a photo of the original xenomorph from Alien at Disney Land? :P)?

This is nice and all from a purely informational stand point, but what we really should be getting is an opportunity to get the dev to understand what exactly their fan base desires (authenticity, game-play mechanics, etc.) and our concerns over what we know and have scene of the game up to this point in time. This never seems to help with the development process and lord knows it usually needs to (case in point - AVP). They never listen.

1. I've seen the term "A True Sequel to Aliens" thrown around a lot in interviews. Is it your intent to disregard Alien 3, or are you simply referring to the tone and feel of Aliens as opposed to continuity?

2. Given that Prometheus is coming out in relative proximity to your title, have you had to change any plans for the game to be more in line with what Prometheus brings to the universe?

Will players be able to play as the Aliens during Multilayer?

If so, will you be exploring different game modes like for instance a hive defense/rescue the humans mode?  It would be amazing to have a game mode that had seperate objectives for humans and aliens.  Aliens would defend the hive and cocoon hosts, marines would rescue hosts before impregnation and possibly kill the queen to win.  I feel that in prior aliens games the hive aspects have been largely ignored.  Will we be seeing more emphasis on the aliens hive structure with the queens egg layer and chamber?

Glad to hopefully get some answers on an exciting upcoming game.

My questions would be these:

Will we get answers as to where the Crusher came from and will their be more of a variety of xenomorphs?

(i)Will the Pulse rifle still "Tote" its original sound and will it still have the iron sights shown in the demo?
(ii) If the iron sights on the PR are still around in the full game, we will be able to use an ADS (Aim Down Sights) system?

Will the Sulaco be fully searchable?

Will we have the ability to pilot a Power Loader, APC or Dropship in MP or SP? (Preferred question to be used if chosen)

And finally, will any special guests make a cameo appearance?

That is all :)

Ikarop,

Ask them this with a straight face:

With all of the development delays for the game, will GBX have an opportunity to connect story elements in A:CM with Ridley Scott's upcoming film, Prometheus?

I wouldn't necessarily want an answer to this question but I think it would be great if you could just describe their faces to the community after you ask it.

What are like the main characters?

/since years ago there are not detailed characters in some games like it was in resident evil, extermination, dino crisis, silent hill...there is only a main character who is nothing just a name and an angry commander and a buddy (like in avp 1-2-3, doom, turok and i could continue...) and thats all  you can tell about them even after finishing the game...its all about just shooting and shouting, lame/

So whats up with CM?

Just wanted to echo some more, and add some of my own, hope its OK! :)

- Will we be able to play as a female marine, either in Single Player or Multiplayer, if not, why not?

- Will we be able to draw or place graffitti on our armour and weapons? I had suggested an idea to use stickers, like primitive shapes, letters and numbers with the ability to manipulate them and have a sticker limit for armour and weapons, similar to Modnation Racers on the PS3

- How much support will A:CM receive after release?

- What kinds of DLC can we expect?

- Will there be "Dual sign in" splitscreen on PS3 and XBOX 360? Like where you and a friend can each sign into their account on the same system?

- Will there be a theatre mode in Multiplayer?

- Will the PS3 version use L1/R1 for aiming and firing? This is very important to me due to my physical disability and difficulty using L2/R2 for aiming and firing.

- Will there be a multiplayer map of the Colony "pre-blast" with everything intact?

- How many difficulty modes will there be?

- Will you be able to use the welder at your own free will, or are there only certain times you can use it?

- Does the welder also cut like in the movie? can we use it to open up new routes?

- Can we use the welder as a crude weapon to kill other humans or androids if we run out of ammo?

- In multiplayer, can we play as Aliens or Androids?

- Can we get a multiplayer map of Gateway, complete with the Colonial Marines Academy, the hospital, the cargo docks and the apartments where Ripley and Jones live?

- In multiplayer, can we pick and choose which ONE gadget we carry and use like a welder, a hacking pad, a sentry gun, etc?

- How many weapons, gadgets and things are you implementing from the technical manual?

- Will vehicles like the Power Loader, APC, Dropship or even the technical manuals Tanks be drivable in multiplayer?

- Tell us something that will blow our minds about the gameplay in A:CM (that we don't already know!)

- Have you redone any of the voice acting since the E3 demo?

- Can you give us a vague schedule of when info will be released up until fall?

- Can you give us a month of when A:CM will finally release?

- Will there be a playable demo before release? either for single player or multiplayer?

- Will there be a multiplayer beta? if so, Closed or Public? and how do we get access?

- Was the leaked Collectors Edition legitimate? will anything change from it?

- Will there be any special guests making an appearance in the game? You do not have to name who it will be

- On IMDB, it says "Weirzbowski" is a character, is this the same Weirzbowski from the movie? or is it a brother? or simply an error?

- If Aliens are playable online or in single player, is it possible to change your stance from quadruped to bipedal, also is it possible to change your stance as a marine like "standing", "crouched" or "prone"?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think thats all for now, if I think of any more I'll try to add them to this post before time runs out to edit, if not, I'll probably reply while quoting this post and add more in

-Do you actually read the Gearbox forums for A:CM and use some idea's from there in the game?
-Are any Characters from Aliens gonna be in the game, like Hudson, Burke, or Weirzbowski?
-As for the reason the Crushers are in the game, is it still the result of Radiation mutating the surviving Xenomorphs, or are they the evolved form of a couple Xeno's, for example, a few Warrior's, like a Drone to a Preatorian, and Preatorian to Queen?
-Are there Preatorians in the game?
-Does your health regenerate or do you use med-packs?
-Are the AI marines actually going to be helpful?
-When will A:CM come out?

Also, what can you tell us about the "melee system;" is it more of a L4D "all-purpose knockback?" or is it more akin to the AvP 2010 "rock-paper-scissors" system?

Thanks! :)

It is backwards but we're living in the "want it now generation" Newbeing, people just don't have patience.Much rather have a polished fine tuned game than a buggy mess of crap just because a few crybabies on AVPG didn't want to wait for it.

As for 15 hours, to hell with that! Much rather have a sweet ass kicking 8-10 hour game with tons of replayable modes/multiplayer and content than a shooter that wears out its welcome well before the 15 hour mark.

Title: Re: Aliens Colonial Marines Q&A with Gearbox Software

I got the basic questions.

Does the story conflict in anyway with the Alien FILM franchise continuity?
and would the colony still existing be explained?

Would the egg of from the sulaco be explained as well?

Would there be different modes of Multiplayer as well as co-op?
and could players jump in and out of a game that has already started? (in AVP 2010, players could only start new matches which frustrated many people and was very limiting, lack of a host migration was also a problem)

Will there be many annoying or exploitable glitches in Multiplayer?
(this frustrated many players on AVP 2010, a few examples of a few glitches would be getting attacked and damaged by a heavy melee attack from an alien or predator despite being a meter or more away from the attacker, another is getting stealth killed when you are out of reach or are facing the attacker.) I understand some can't be ironed out in time when it is released though they should eventually be fixed with patches unlike with AVP 2010

Would any new types of aliens (such as the crusher) be explained rather than just being in the game for entertainment purposes? (radiation would be a very poor excuse.) and most of us never did like the Newborn or Predalien (and especially its new life-cycle)

Will the fact that the atmosphere on LV-426 being still breathable be explained? (the processor was destroyed and the only possible explanation is cut from a script and added in a novel which is in the expanded universe which is not considered canon by many, and since some are saying this new game is supposed to fit with the film canon then it has to go by the film franchise's rules)

Does the game have a lengthy campaign and a high replay value?

so far that is all my questions.

I'm just going to ask a bunch of questions. I don't know how many of these have been asked:

1. Is there a leveling system? Can weapons and armor be upgraded?
2. Are there perks\skill trees?
3. Character classes\customization?
4. Can armor be damaged by acid and be torn off?
5. Are there interactive (button-response) cut-scenes?
6. Are there side missions and not just a main mission?
7. Is it possible to loot weapons, ammo, etc from dead bodies?
8. Is it possible to go to third-person view?
9. Is there a cover system?
10. Is possible to have multiple\alternate endings, based on choices or difficulty?
11. Can the player become facehugged and impregnated with a chestburster?
12. Will there be a Horde\Survival mode?
13. Will there be any driving or flying sections?
14. Will any characters from "Aliens" make a cameo in the game?
15. Will the Aliens always try to kill you or can you be coccooned?
16. Are there any sentry guns (maybe for a Horde mode?)
17. Is it possible to play as an Alien in some kind of mode?

Thank you. I can't wait for the game and I know delaying the game only means a better product.

- If this games does well then would a possible stand alone Predator game or a AVP game from Gearbox be possible in the near future?

- Would it be possible that we could see the Newborn from Alien: Resurrection?

I don't see that happening at all. Newborn was born many years after the events of Alien 3, if not thousands of years if I recall correctly, Newborn was one of the results of mixed xenomorph and human DNA, cloned Ripley's human DNA and the xenomorph DNA of a Queen to be exact. I think Newborn was born by accident on top of that, from all the previous failed Ripley clones you can tell their particular cloning project is a science that hasn't been fully mastered yet. A science that I believe doesn't exist at the time of Aliens and Alien 3, to my knowledge.

I doubt this question will be asked, being as no one else has brought it up or seems to care... but will any themes from James Horner's score be incorporated into the game's soundtrack? I'll be a little disappointed if there isn't. Horner's score is a huge part of the Aliens experience for me.

Please ask this.

We have until today to ask questions, and then they need to be collated and selected, then interview is probably tomorrow, hopefully we'll have the answers on tuesday.

It doesn't exactly work like that. Now we will pick the best and most commonly asked question and re-write them for the interview. Once we're done with that the studio will answer them. The approval process takes while too. So it will be a few weeks before the interview gets published.

Recently a new user has popped up on the A;CM forums.  She has asked repeatedly for a female version of the main playable character "Winter".

I'm not going to ask for a playable female lead, I'm demanding it.

Strong female leads have always played a role in this series.  In multiple interviews, you have stated that you are "Huge fans", and that you "are proud to be working on a series you've been stealing from" your whole careers.  Please do the series justice and include a female version of the lead.

The legacy here is even more important.  Alien, and Aliens were some of the first Action/Scifii/Horror movies to portray a woman in a lead role, not to mention an a$$ kicker. Now, just as then, women in video games are more often objectified than celebrated.  They serve the bouncing boobie, damsel in distress role.  Yes, there strong roles, see Mass Effect.  But lets be honest, those roles are few and far between.

Take this opportunity to help change things.  Continue the legacy of the movies, and create a strong female lead in the tradition of Ripley, and Vasquez.  Hell even Newt was pretty damn tough!

One more thing.

Let's face it Gearbox, after the blatant misogyny that went on in Duke Nukem, YOU OWE THE LADIES ONE.  Ya, Ya, I know, you pretty much published a finished game, but your names on it, so you own it.

I don't care if you have to delay the game into 2013....GET IT DONE!!

P.S.  Sorry for the tone, I really am overall very encouraged by your work so far, but this user's signature is "My wheelchair lift reminds me of the Power Loader and every time I use it, I want to yell "Get away from her you Bitch!"".  You don't get any more inspirational than that!
