Following Cliff Bleszinski’s announcement regarding the Boss Key Productions Aliens game that never was, VP of 3D Realms Frederik Schreiber has also taken to Twitter to reveal that Slipgate Ironworks and 3D Realms was also deep into pre-production of a different Alien game that became another victim of the Disney/Fox merger!
“This is crazy… we were in the talk about the exact same thing. New Aliens FPS, taking place at Hadleys Hope (4-player coop). Almost went through. Happened right around the time at the Disney acquisition, and when that happened, it all fell to the ground.
Yup. Game was called Aliens: Hadleys Hope. We went quite far into pre-production before the Disney/Fox acquisition, and then we had to cancel it, and move on with something else. Maybe some day!”
Given the title Hadley’s Hope, I would have expected something more along the lines of a prequel to Aliens. Instead, this sounds like it would have been a world-spanning multiplayer game much in the same vein of Destiny (somewhat like we expect Cold Iron Studio’s Aliens “persistent online” shooter to be).
When asked about the possibility of continuing production on Aliens: Hadley’s Hope, Schreiber replied: “Nah, we're having too much fun with Kingpin, Ion Fury, WRATH and Ghostrunner!“

I don't think it's likely Disney targetted Alien games, probably just some legality thing during the merger that took the games down.

Probably issues related to funding those projects.
Tbh, all these games had a weak ideas. BKP game was located on Earth in Black Mesa. And this coop game was a prequel. Really - I see no reason to do the prequel, because we already know the result.
I'm not surprised. If they haven't shown anything by now, its going down!
Sounds like no big deal, the premise itself, as with the last cancelled Alien project is ridiculous anyway.
Im not too upset over this. While id love more alien games. I dont want a bunch of soulless cashgrabs flooding the market. Id rather have a super strong single player with playable aliens come out though
Absolutely agreed.
Tbh I'm getting a little worried for the aliens gaming universe.
Hopefully we get the next gen aliens multiplayer game us fans have been waiting for since avp 2010. I'm losing my mind lol
This cancellation and the Bosskey one don't bother me because both seem to be weirdly placed in the canon. I don't like the idea of Ripleys "Nuke them orbit" didnt work. And with the Bosskey game, while I love Newt I just don't think MASSIVELY retconning Alien 3 is a good idea.
Another Hadley's Hope story........ :-\
Enough cancellations already, just get the Predator game out.
Can't say I'm surprised. Sounds like another multiplayer loot fest.
A solid single player experience is what I prefer. I like co-op too, but only as an extra and only if it's local and offline.
I'm old school.
Both cancelled games sound like hack jobs taking advantage of an IP.
f**k disney.

Sad, very sad.
It is?
I've got to admit neither game concepts have really wowed me. I'll always lament a missed opportunity, but I especially dislike the idea of returning to Hadley's Hope once again. Though I do like the idea of a co-op driven game. The story driven PvE multiplayer game is still what I'm expecting with Cold Iron's game so I still think we're getting the game format.
Yeah exactly.
I'm not sure why video game developers think we want to return to Hadleys. You can have any colony look similar in design, and they probably would if most of them are backed by Weyland-Yutani. Having Hadleys as a sort of MP horde map is great (Bug Hunt) but I don't think it needs to be revisited in a narrative of any kind.
Completely agreed with you. That said, for many of us we're constantly revisiting Hadley's Hope with near enough every significant gaming generation, but for the developers just imagine how much f**king fun they're having with it. But I still completely agree. If it's a desire to retain the aesthetic, another colony is fine! They all come from the same Space Ikea anyway.

I'm done with revisiting 426 and 161 personally, it's getting ridiculous now, a new location please.
Remember back when the early concept for Aliens: Colonial Marines came out and it showcased different worlds and environments that the Xenos had spread too....
f**k...
Some extra details about the game.
That actually sounds pretty awesome! :)
Sounds fun. As said, if it wasn't on Hadley's and didn't have Newt, I'd love to see this in action.
I wonder if this game would've been more successful than Colonial Marines.
I initially dismissed this as "yet more (tired) pulse rifle and aliens" meets LEFT4DEAD co-op in alien clothing.
But reading the proposal and seeing 3D Realms had worked on finishing and redesigning 2009s DUKE NUKEM Forever? The latter had criminally overlooked side-missions, non-shooting gameplay variety, vehicles and first person world interaction I say we've lost a great alien game
If you never played Duke Nukem Forever Razorfist explains his reasoning.
It would be interesting if 3D Realms ambitious proposal and listed gameplay features would've made it into the final release unscathed. That's without another A-CM scandal or unofficial reliance on independent mods or gameplay, graphical fixes.
With Disney closing production on making/marketing/premiering new AAA films and closing its park for a month due to coronavirus, I'd say Disney have better things to worry about.

If by "success" you mean making money, then no. Many games (especially online co-op) are free-to-play. Heck even the full Counterstike-Global Offensive release has been free to play for over a year now.
Sounds like it had potential. Could care less about location or Newt. It's not Canon. I wonder how many unique encounters you could have? Hadleys Hope isn't huge from a gameplay perspective.
They should also incorporate the Derelict Engineers ship where special weapons are located....but also tons of facehuggers. (I know it's supposed to be farther away but cmon it's a game)
This way the map is more than just Hadleys Hope. Also include androids....that can be reprogrammed.

I do hope that in future games we get to see some sweet Engineer weaponry like Galgo had.

Now
that in my humble opinion, would be truly awesome.

If you guys want a good ALIENS influenced game with strong team mechanics and great atmosphere check out G.T.F.O. on Steam. Its an Early Access game but I got it and its great fun. In my opinions it has part of what Aliens: Colonial Marines should have been.

From an objective point of view, great looking game and production values.
But from an
intellectual property point of view, they really needed ACTUAL Xenos/ALIENS to sell a game commanding £35 from steam. Who pays that type of money these days? I got garrys mod for £4.60 in the last steam sale with unlimited custom downloads.
G.T.F.O. kinda looks like Alien Isolation mixed with Alien Swarm.

I agree that its somewhat pricey but I like to support indie games like that.
