More like, we won't learn the full details about what was going on on the ship until close to the end of the season.
The ship crashing up front is the inciting incident that kicks off the major events of the series. What happened on the ship, where the Aliens came from, why the ship was on its mission, etc. seem to be among the major mysteries that the show will keep up its sleeve for a while, and slowly dole information out about piecemeal as the season builds towards its finale (not unlike
Lost's treatment of the plane crash, which it kept circling back around to from different perspectives and vantage points).
