Quote On the heel's of yesterday's cast announcement, another casting in The Predator has been revealed. The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Keegan-Michael Key will be joining the cast of the film. The publication reported that Key would play a man who teams up with Holbrook and Rhodes's Ex-Marines to fight the creatures.
While plot details still remain scarce, it would appear that similar to the first film, a group will be formed to band together against the Yautja. While his role was not revealed, it does not sound like he will play an ex-marine like Holbrook or Rhodes. With the addition of Olivia Munn as a scientist, it is possible that Key's character could be someone deliberately selected to accompany the group like a tracker or government agent.
Key is best known for his role in the award-winning 2016 comedy 'Keanu', which he also produced. Some of Key's other notable film credits include 'Pitch Perfect 2' as well as 'Tomorrowland'. He has also been nominated for several Emmy's due to his comedy show 'Key and Peele'.

Now this is a casting choice I can get behind. This guy is incredibly talented and funny. Will knock Black's dialogue out of the park.
"I went up to the predator and I said......*looks around*......I said.....*covers himself with mud* I said biiiiiiiiiitch."
Interesting...
I wonder if he will have a more serious role (Possibly like Danny McBride in AC) or if they are going to let him do his thing.
This is a home run if true!
Yeeeaaah...
Might be better than Topher Grace!
This is interesting. Comedians can put in some great dramatic work.
I would love it if he was playing his character Coach Hynes in the film lmao

Exactly. I have zero issue with his background primarily being comedy. As I was reminding people when McBride was cast in Covenant, comedic actors make great dramatic actors and I honestly think McBride is going to be standout in Covenant.
I've not really watched Key and Peele but I've seen (mainly heard) him in a lot of other things. I'm interested to see where they go with this.
I don't get these casting choices? But I will admit that guy was pretty funny in that AvP skit. lol

I also shared that because of the real life irony!
Color me excited. I agree, Hicks, Danny McBride looks like he can be a total standout in Covenant and I'm really looking forward to seeing it.
Also- I remember Key being a funny and yet effective addition to the first season of Fargo.
He could be King Willie 2.0 for all we know.
"None of that... Is gonna' be in the actual movie."
sounds like they're making a parody film.
Not just that but Paul reiser or how ever you spell his name has been more comedy roles than what he was like as Burke
Shark tank
Tectonic.. ;D
Reminds me.. need to see Keanu

Why?
Because the announced cast so far is a joke. It sounds more like a low-rent Tropic Thunder.
The casting up until now hasn't been that impressive indeed... but it doesn't really have to be a bad thing of course.

Any news on who is playing the main Predator yet? That's the biggest casting call - get that wrong (like with short actors in Predators) and the movie is already facing an uphill battle.
The casting choices i dont like so far is mainly olvia munn. I think she is so over rated, but that might just be me. The key and peele actor at least has acted intense roles in his skits.... Anyone remember "i am getting to old for this tshit"?
how am i supposed to take this guy seriously in the remake, I almost had a stroke trying to give brody a chance lol. ;D
the brother can act. He can play any role..
He's gonna be sort of what Hawkins was in the original: comic relief/ cannon fodder

Still waiting for our big "And" actor. Throw Michael Keaton in here? Thanks.

There are actors out there that aren't A-Listers that can make a film good. Holbrook is a good actor, go watch Narcos.
That new guy from Moonlight looks like he may be a really good actor
They've got to have one big name in this.
But what would y'all say if this movie is really good without a big name actor? Holbrook may be a big name after Logan comes out

I'd then I was wrong. I'm still banking that Arnold will show up and fight the Predator again. He needs to since he's been complaining about how all the sequels haven't been good since the first.
I would love for him to show up in it, but I'm not gonna get my hopes up

How many times must I say that of course you don't have to be an A-lister to be good. I know that. Duh! People still want A-listers to give the project legitimacy as an event picture. It's what any reasonable studio would do. What was the last blockbuster that didn't have a known name? Even with a spin off like Fantastic Beasts, you gotta throw in a Colin Farrell, a Jon Voight, an Eddie Redmayne, etc. The new Blade Runner cast is a perfect cast that mixes known actors with lesser known actors.

He can only get so big. He'll only be so known after Logan.
If anything, Fox should've asked Hugh Jackman to topline The Predator, not the dude behind Hugh Jackman. Reminds me of Predator 2's casting actually. "Let's not get Mel Gibson, let's get the guy behind Mel Gibson."

He isn't really the guy behind Hugh Jackman in the same vain as Glover and Gibson so much as he's the guy acting
opposite of Hugh Jackman. Either way, Hardy was a nobody before Inception and I don't think anyone considered him a guy "behind" DiCaprio. He blew up after a good scene stealing performance. Perhaps Fox sees Holbrook doing something great in Logan. The Logan trailer was great and the little snippets of Holbrook look to be promising considering the apparent power he has over Logan. Hopefully it's indicative of him playing a great villain.
He is the guy behind Jackman. Opposite, behind, tomato, tomato
It's not tomato, tomato at all. Two people opposite each other can be on equal footing. One behind the other implies one is lesser. Alan Rickman was hardly "behind" Bruce Willis in Die Hard, he was opposite.
why him ? that makes no sense.
He can become other people and transform in his acting
My guess is olivia and key can both pull off the funny lines and the serious intense moments.
if danny mcbride and james franco were cast first in the new alien you guy's would have had heart attacks.
Smart they held off on telling you till the movie was made.
Lol Danny McBride was the second actor announced after Waterston. And everyone should've been happy because he's a fine actor, and good enough for Ridley Scott! And Franco is an amazing actor too. But sadly people will forget he was even in the movie by the time it's over, a'la Patrick Wilson in Prometheus. Big overreaction with Franco.
And Franco's casting was a scoop from this very own website, it wasn't some evil stratagem on Fox's part. ::)

I think he means PREDATORS (2010)... the remake of the original film.
James Franco and Keegan-Michael Key were both in 20th Century Fox's 'Why Him?', James was offered and Keegan is in talks for THE PREDATOR, so could there be an announcement of BRYAN CRANSTON joining, another Why Him? actor? Would be great.

Prommy because he was in it for all of five seconds.
On topic, can't say I've ever seen this guy in anything, but glad the reaction seems largely positive. I've got no problems with comedic actors jumping ship to drama, plenty have done it and knocked it out of the park before.
He was in the film for 5 seconds. Uh, exactly.
And really, you've never seen Franco in anything. Interesting.
He means Keegan-Michael.
I stand corrected.
Looks like part of the cast, including KMK, are staying at the Sutton Place Downtown Vancouver

im gonna say itll be a balance act but hes def a touch of comic relief...in the predator and alien movies there always seemed to be a loose cat or wise ass ala Parker, Blain, Lambert(predator2), Hudson, and now we have Mcbride and Key's characters

i dont think they do...star power doesnt equal good movie...come on man you know this...besides all these new young faces have skills...on the come up so to speak...look at covenant...looks like a solid film...solid director with credentials...no A listers...besides...when the main protag is some popular A lister smh you already know they will more than likely survive...i like it better when the whole cast is in danger and all bets are off...just my opinion tho

Keegan Michael Key praises Shane Black and the actors.
(at around 1:21:29) especially Augusto Aguilera :)

Yeah, it was something, basically exactly what Darkoo said it was haha
I'm looking forward to seeing how this group works on screen. And I haven't read the script but I'm assuming Augusto will have more to do than say, Slipknot from Suicide Squad, based on what Keegan says in this interview. So that's good haha

That's not hard to beat though
Very true :D but to be honest I was (still am?) kinda worried that's all he'll be relegated to. I hate when guys are killed right off the bat before we get a chance to get familiar with them. Slipknot is the extreme example of that though lol

IIRC he has some funny dialogue, and has a dynamic going with Jane's character, so that's cool ;)
For what's it's worth despite the script , despite the departure from what's gone before and the Comedic tone , honesty who am I to deny the fact that deep down I'm exited for this film . It's still predator .. and I was thinking actually today after speaking to big daddy john , the idea of some rogue predators helping mankind is starting to grow on me . The more I think about things the more I'm starting to see the potential. It took a lot to take away my bias, but actually I might be wrong , this film might well be bad ass . Especially if character development is strong 💪
P.s iv followed AVP galaxy for years , i love you guys !

Character development is among Shane Black's main abillities, along with great dialogue and pacing. If the execution is right, we could have a really cool movie !

It's nothing against the poster or Galaxy for posting it as news. I just don't believe anything in that was actually giving me any information about The Predator. Maybe if somebody compiled all the things the cast had said about the film then I would be interested in giving it a gander.
I'm glad Key was given freedom to insert his own humor.
