Definately the best trailer... I think I'll really like the characters at least.

Everything in general looks great, especially the acting, however i really hope some of the gore fx used where unfinished, the blood looks ridiculous and cartoon like.

No. The trailer shows only Stargazer soldiers' deaths...very brutal I must say.
(Man...that guy at Rory's house basement).

So, you can watch the trailer if you worry about the Loonies. :)

+1 for the blood/gore FX - that and fire/explosion FX are key things for me - when done poorly they stand out.  That explosion from the claymore  in Predators is cringe worthy.

I liked the shot of Fugitive hanging on the side of the tree, classic style. I do also have to say that I'm surprised by the vastly different tones in the variety of trailers - whereas some made it look more dark and intense, others like this paint it more like a fun action romp. I curious to see how that's balanced in the movie.

I'd say the tone of the movie should be like this trailer. Fun, gory and actiony, knowing Shane's style from previous movies. Looks dope! I'll be there when it premieres. But yeah, that CGI blood... errrrr.

Don't know it's half new footage, but it is a lot.
And damn...never seen The Predator so brutal. Still don't know about the story, i think i will enjoy it, but i will certainly enjoy the behaviour of this Predator. Again, it's absolutely ferocious and he moves beautifully.

As much as I enjoy seeing the Predator just slaughtering people, it kinda undermines the character as a whole as a hunter that's meant to be silent and stalk its prey. Just seeing the upgrade kinda ripping apart people like red shirts seems so out of character. And the CGI blood.... oi.

I do like the trailers and am really looking forward to the film but seriously this looks terrible, with a bit of luck it's placeholder fx that where Incomplete at the time of the trailer being edited together.

Reminds me of the scene In requiem where the two teens get their heads plasmacastered off at the same time.

I think/hope so too.  Really good trailer  8) I hope they didn't gave away the best parts of the action scenes.  Can't say I'm a fan of the music chosen, but I know it won't be the same music used in the film, so that's a relief.

I'm all in on this now. Easily the best trailer and it looks great. Seems like the reshoots might have paid off and they got someone at Fox that actually knows how to cut a trailer.

Amazing how much difference a good trailer can make, going from that first terrible trailer, that had everyone worried, to this final trailer, which has people way more positive about the movie now.

This trailer was essentially put out to capture the insane tone this movie will have. It's just bodies getting ripped up left and right! I'm all in for this movie. I just want this body count to be insane. I feel like the sequence where Fugitive escapes Stargazer labs will be a great gore fest.

This trailer was definitely the best. They changed the movie like 4 times with reedits and reshoots in the last 6 months, it isn't even the same film. They actually listened to test audiences concerns. The franchise needs a win sooooo badly!

The only bad part was the Upgrade's flying blade that cut that dude in half..looked like the old school Mortal Kombat game when people burst into red water and a scattered pile of bones

Maybe they intentionally mixed the visions of Fugitive and Assassin for the trailers.
An organic eye can not create such HUDs...so I still say it's Fugitive's vision through the mask.

I can't say at the very beginning of learning about upgrade I hated the idea. I detested & still do the berserker predator design, it looks more monster than Alien, just looks so awful.

But upgrade I've really come round to being excited to see, he's been "hulked" up a bit but man he just looks so awesome & the face design is on point. Trailer was great

It's meant to make the character "seem" intimidating. It's a movie, and one about aliens, reality got left at the door.

Yea, because someone calling out for some other guy, invitin him to insert a grenade launcher to his rectum full of scars (an existing line in a movie we all know) sounds much more creative. It all depends on the acting, and Hollbrook gives a good impression. And to be frank, the movie looks less and less generic for me, each time they release anthing about it. Hope it'll be good.

It's nothing to do with 80s. Boyd Holbrook (I have nothing against him as a person) isn't tailored to be the main lead in Predator movie. I simply cannot feel it.

Oh we're close enough to the 80's alright. This movie feels more 80's than even the original did. It's like the dream team vs predator. A group of looney dudes, and crazies dropping humor. This feels like a Michael Keaton movie. It's like Beverly Hills Cop. Shane can say whatever he wants, this was, and likely still is a group comedy with a backbone of seriousness. All it needs is some synthesizer, and it's good to go.

I am a fan of Predator movie, and also I am a fan of just movies. I am always open for a new take on predator, you never know where you going to get lucky. But it's a false argument that people like this movie becuase it's another predator movie. Opposite a lot of people hating on it becuase they are such a strong fans of "Predator" race, not a movie it self. Now, I am open to this movie the same way I was open to AvP, AvPR, Predators. Are they good movies? Not for me, I am not fan of these movies at all, but it doesn't stop me personally from continue being open for another try. So no, if this movie going to be terrible for me, I will admit it. I am not going to like movie only because predator was in it.

We can't be sure of that until watching the movie.

I think it has some of the campy charm of the original Predator, remember that movie's first half is all macho soldier thing.

You know... I was the complete opposite. I think the movie looked terrible from the first trailers.

BUT, after this, I'm leaning to theorize the movie could have always been a gem, only the trailers didn't know how to sell it.

We won't know either case, until we see the movie. But damn, I want to see it.

The first 30 minutes yes... but there was so much feel of dread from the characters after Hawkins is killed and it was never zany or off putting after that. I will at least go see it in cinema...

Exactly. It's pretty unjust to paint the movie as those things, when we've actually been shown the opposite in previous trailers (ie daylight scenes, multiple environments, etc.) Yes there are some setting similarities with AvPR, but the dynamic between the cast is so much different. They actually are shown to interact on a different level, besides stress/tension fueled. I think the film could very well be perfect for what the movie is trying to achieve or portray itself as.

It's lame. It's cliche. And above all it's said by a guy who doesn't look intimidating at all. I just don't buy it.

same, communication overall is not about just the words spoken, but the tone, the body language, the positioning/perspective, etc and someone like shane black would know this. Makes me think this might be a running gag that while this guy is in custody he's getting pushed around etc and the power dynamic will be immediately reversed when chit hits the fan.

The trailer looks good though! I really hope the comedy fades and the action/horror takes over as the movie progresses! The action looks good! The way the predators look/move seems far more powerful and imposing here then ever. I really want to see an AVP movie now with this level of effects and direction.

80's ? It just looks middle of the road just like AvP 2 did just with a better cast...  cartoony gore, dark generic look, boring setting, check check check. But some fans will like it just for the sake that it is another predator movie just like another lame jurassic sequel.

"People are dying. We need guns."

lol

Jurassic world didn't actually have any main characters. Just some people to follow who didn't have any arcs etc. The plot itself was treated as the main character and that barely ever works in stories / films.. We already know this new predator film doesn't have that problem.

Great trailer, really has me feeling better about the reshoots. Holbrook is cool, and Jane will likely be a scene stealer. One thing, though. All these trailers and they still haven't used the "Goddamn space aliens." line. Shame.

For you.

And the line "shove me again i'm gonna break your neck" is a nod to the last boy scout.

Opposite a lot of people hating on it becuase they are such a strong fans of "Predator" race, not a movie it self.

For a lot of people, it got a lot of bad reviews from fans.

When a movie goes for 'nods' or rehashes actual shots from original (fallen kingdom) it's a major turn off. A nod to another movie from the director I don't mind much though.

You sound just like BD Wong... "Only people in the movie business know what good filmmaking is..." . That is just bogus. Fallen Kingdom was atrocious... such bad acting, artificial feel, overstuffed with cg (ok JW was worse).

I hope The Predator has a more crafty feel than what we see here in the trailers... lots of cgi... even the gore effects.... ugh.

For the gore i agree, but for the rest of the CGI stuff... I mean it's a movie of our era, and that often comes with it.

Back on topic, i remember Hicks asked what was the thing the assassin had in his hand in the foggy shot with the two dogs... Well after this final trailer it seems it's a piece of clothing from Rory, he probably found it in his house/basement, since we know the assassin will get there, as he is seen stabbing someone in this location. I like how he use it to track Rory with the dogs smelling abilities.

Yeah, that's it. :)

And now, about the space ships.
Spoiler
It seems that the Ark will blow up and Assassin will try to leave Earth towards the end of the film with the other/mother ship...on which he arrived.

Good change I think if we see the script in which
Spoiler
we did not know anything about the mother ship after Assassin arrived. We did not even know where it landed.

what we have seen so far as a Predator ship is most likely the Assassin's ship (mother ship)...not the Ark? :)

Correct.
Spoiler
Fugitive's escape pod lands in Mexico (Cuba in the script), the Ark lands somewhere in Florida in cloak mode (maybe not changed in the film, but I don't know that quarry area where the Ark is in the film, is where exactly) and Assassin's ship lands...somewhere...we don't know where. Neither in the script, nor in the film...but most likely Florida as well (judging from the swampish environment.)

Subsidiary question : do you think the assassin's wristblade IS the harpoon weapon ? It doesn't seem attached to any cable when fired in the final trailer so probably not.

And by the way
Spoiler
could Stargazer retrieved the ark and transported it somehow in the quarry/stargazer base location ?

I don't know. :) The place is in a forest, that's the only clear thing for now.

But do not forget, that nobody knows where the Ark lands. That's a key part in the script when Rory decodes the Predator symbols and finds the location of the Ark. ;)

That's my guess judging from the reshoots.
Spoiler
In the script General Woodhurst (Edward James Olmos) wants the Ark transported to him at the military base because of the hybrids after Fugitive's death. We already know that EJO and the military part are cut out completely, so this is when my theory comes in: Traeger wants the Ark for himself and tries to transport it back to the Stargazer base. Assassin follows them, attacks the base and blows up the Ark (or it blows up as an accident, I don't know) and starts to hunt the main heroes down.

That part doesn't changed. I'm totally sure.
Spoiler
Still he is the most evolved human "warrior" the Assassin wants.
Just think about it: except the very first trailer they left out Rory from every footage. They showed us Assassin, they showed Fugitive's death at SDCC. Those who have not read the script these elements would be everything...now they think: "they showed us everything already?"
The filmmakers have to keep plot twists in secret in order to let everybody be surprised at the premiere.
That surprise will be Rory's role. ;)

Just accept that there will never be another predator movie as good as 1-2. It's something about the 80s and early 90s, they can't can't make EM like that anymore. The first movie is pure classic, it was fresh and everything, the second one made it fairly nice as well. I would be satisfied as long as this movie is better than avp and predators from 2010, I can't stand those movies.

The abillity to create everything via computer has ruined movie making (action adventure movies at least) the fact they had their limits back in the day made the movies more intimate and real. Now they just say... throw cgi sauce here and there... yes more sauce and throw in some unfitting one liners in there to make it more ridiculous. But it doesn't make it better to see cgi cars crash into eachother or flying through the sky in unrealistic ways. But it's like garbage junk food... people will always eat it.

This trailer looks generic. And that line: I'll break your neck. Seriously?

What's wrong with the line?

It's lame. It's cliche. And above all it's said by a guy who doesn't look intimidating at all. I just don't buy it.

We're not in the 80s anymore. The roided up hero is no more.

It's nothing to do with 80s. Boyd Holbrook (I have nothing against him as a person) isn't tailored to be the main lead in Predator movie. I simply cannot feel it.

Based on what exactly? I was unaware there was a criteria for lead actors in a Predator movie.

What a ridiculous thing to say.

It's the "Mahsulls". Or lack thereof. You can't survive a predator without big bulging "mahsulls". In all seriousness, I can kind of see the point here. He doesn't really seem like a solid leading man to me, but it is what it is. Danny Glover may not have had Arnie "muskels" but I mean c'mon, he's Danny freakin' Glover. He can hold his own in a leading role.

Choosing from the cast they have now, I'd much rather have seen Jane taking lead as an aging but experienced soldier leading his own group.

I'd prefere Charlie Hunnam, but I'm willing to give this guy a chance. It's a make or break role for him.

Charlie is always a good bet. I thought it would be difficult to see him as anyone but Jax after SOA, but he blended well in Pacific Rim and King Arthur. That's not easy to do. He's a damn good actor.

Their record seems broken...

80's ? It just looks middle of the road just like AvP 2 did just with a better cast...  cartoony gore, dark generic look, boring setting, check check check. But some fans will like it just for the sake that it is another predator movie just like another lame jurassic sequel.

Its not a problem if some aren't liking what they see, thats to be expected of any film. But the gatekeeping is garbage, your opinion on this film is not a reflection on your status as a fan. Saying fans who like what ghey are seeing will just like anything with a predator in it is bs.

I thought avpr was terrible and was lukewarm on predators and avp. I think this looks great.

NO they are absolutely right. The majority of people who like this just want another predator movies however it is. The have garbage taste and will as for seconds even thirds of this trash. They have zero idea of what make a good movie and love to tell others who are more intellectually inclined when its comes to even movies like this that they are gate keeping. Face it, there are probably some good parts in here, the kills i guess? But the vast majority of this will be trash. IT will never be as memorable as the first and even second Predator. Either you lack the intellect to sniff out a crap movie, or you have Stockholm syndrome via the franchise character and will take anything the studio throws at you.

Yea, some people seem to throw a tantrum about this movie now and then. Those people forget, that
it's not that "fans accept" the movie, but mostly (of course, there can and will be changes based on fan feedback) they have to accept it. The only way not accepting it is not watching it.

And that nullifies the right to share opinion about it.

Making an opinion about it after the movie is another thing. I haven't seen a good movie involving predators in so many years I can't even count, I have my fears and doubts about this one. Yet, final judgement has to be after watching it.

What will I accept from it, or will I accept anything? That's another question.

So @ brokentusk420, I'm sorry, but you're either malevolent towards the franchise or you just have a really narrow mindset.

"Intellectually inclined"... 😂

I can respect having doubts and reserves about certain things and decisions made- especially given the track record of the series. As hyped as I am for this sequel, I still can't deny that there are some things that I feel doubtful about. That being said, I think it is as clear as day that there was a lot of time, effort and talent brought to the table for this movie and it only shows more with each new trailer.

This final trailer is badass. Seeing Fugitive do a bare knuckle beatdown on someone is everything.

The trailer felt a little too exposition-y to me. However the violence looks cartoonishly good in much the same fashion I found AVP:R amusing. I mean even if the damn things were rocket-propelled, would wristblades really shred a guy in half and send the body parts flying? Probably not but it'll be incredibly entertaining.

I'm starting to warm to the cast a little more too. Predator series has always had good leads and worthy opponents, hope they've made the right choice with Holbrook.

Why do people get so worked up whether people enjoy a movie or not? Have debates about things you like/didn't like and be baffled at some curious opinions but why insult people and belittle them on account of taste?

Life is too short to worry about such things. I mean a lot of people are going to see this film and some of them might even enjoy it a lot. If that bothers you then I guess that's just too damn bad lol

Because some people who'll enjoy this film might be wrong, that's why.

All I need to know is if I feel there is potential left or ruined after this film. If it is succesful for all the wrong reasons in my book, I'm probably better off sticking to the old films.

"Because some people who'll enjoy this film might be wrong, that's why." seriously? I pesonally may not like Kubrik's movies, or Rodley Scott's "Blade Runner" but it doesn't mean thy are not good movies, it's just not my taste. One thing is when movie officially and objectively BAAAD (which to be honest is hard to determine) but another thing is when your taste is just different. People mixing up the objective view and subjective opinion.
Example: I personally love Predator 2 the most, Predator 2 is my favorite movie. Would I say that it's objectivly better then Predator 1, nope. Predator 2 worse then Predator 1, but for me is the best movie. I know I am subjective on Predator 2 and I am not trying to shove it to people's faces that Predator 2 is freaking best movie on the planet, and if you not liking it you don't have taste.  ;D
The Predator didn't come out yet, I already spoke that it could suck, but making really confident assumption about something you didn't see yet, is pretty arrogant.  And also telling people that they like the movie, because they don't have no taste and knowledge what makes movie good, is just silly. Movie didn't come out yet. ;)

To be honest.. it's really just the cast and Shane black that's going to make me buy my ticket. And it's them who will save the film. If it is a good film it demonstrates Shane blacks talent as a good director. If this wasn't predator I'd probably pass. I'm not a fan of the predator designs or the ideas going on here. It's going to be miracle if this film is good.

Absolutely not. Look, we've all got our opinions. It's good to discussion them. What is not acceptable is insulting others for their opinions over a fictional series - and that goes either way, good or bad. If people can't abide by the simple rule that is Be Nice & Respecful then you're not welcome here. It's as simple as that.

Yes the fog shot is actually my favorite ! Eerie and beautiful.

I saw almost nobody on here say that there are some really good classic movie shots in this trailer (assassin walking out of the ship in water... gorgeous) and yet people act like it was a direct to video movie sometimes...  ::)

Ohh man I agree, I loved that shot. I feel nod to Predator 1, and AvPR a little bit. ;)

Also loved these shots which were cut. They felt very dynamic!

Also i like that 20 century fox changed their logo on youtube chanel for now  ;)

Also my favorite shot of the trailer, I think.  Makes me almost sympathetic to Upgrade - seeing him isolated, with his dogs as his only "companions".  I think there was an article that sort of pointed out the rough similarities between the Loonies (being outcasts) and the Upgrade being somewhat of an outcast himself, due to

the degree of his hybridization.

Well if this is the case, then this movie does follow the same motive as the original one. Talking about parallels between Dutch team as hunters and Predator. here is the good video!

Interesting... I also wonder how the relationship between the assassin and his dogs will be portrayed... Will they emphasize the dominant/harsh aspect of the assassin towards the dogs, maybe show him maltreat them in some way if they disappoint him, just to show how brutal and uncompromising he is.

Let me guess....you wanted another Predator movie where he was sneaking around the bushes and we couldn't see him and would just pretend to not know what he was.  He would have the same agenda...sneak around, kill people with guns?  And then lose at the end and blow himself up?

Come on man, it's time to move on.  People wanted to see more of the Predator, and his lore and back story and this movie has it, and follows the continuity of Predator and isn't mixed in with Alien bullshit, that in itself has fans hyped so who the hell are you gatekeepers to say what's good and what's not.

And the hate for Upgrade.....

The dudes in P1 and P2  got washed up by humans, weren't able to go back home with their trophies, you "real" fans wanna see another Predator fail for the third time?  Now a supreme example from that clan has come to avenge those deaths and there is another Predator there and that's what's interesting to me more than even the Upgrade...that confrontation...why is it happening?  Because it's different than P1 P2....another Predator blowing himself up because he got his ass kicked...it was cool once, or twice....now it would be lame.

We are dumb people who can't sniff out a good movie?

Jesus Christ man, I get it, Predator was a great movie, mostly because of Tiernen's directing style (the one scene which he didn't, the gun battle, you could see what a mess it would have been had it not been him).  It's why we can watch Predator over again and still feel the tension, even though we know exactly what's going to happen.  Nobody is coming back to recreate that in a new Predator movie.  But still, you're talking about it like it's The Godfather...and you're lumping it's greatness together with P2 which was one of the cheesiest creations of the '90's, started with a sex scene .....but we still loved it, know why?  Because it had our favorite OWLF in it....you know...

A f**kING ALIEN!!!!

Take it easssy...watch the movie, man, it's not gonna kill you.  Life's too short to not enjoy even the fun shitty things, nobody will judge your fanhood, you'll still be the Earth's Number 1 Yaujta Super Fan Guy, ok?

I have no problem with anything cooked up storywise as long it's not overstuffed.... but it's the execution. The predators look unimaginative especially the bigger one. I could have an half hour and come up with a better predator design sketch than this.

But I will go see it.

Love your cockines man ;D I do like your drawings, but no need to think you better artist then these people in the Industry. I do agree that the design isn't something special, but I do think it was the art direction they went for. I am sure they did have many drafts and variations, why did Shane, Davis, or art director chose these designs I am not sure.  ;)

If they don't use original Alan Silvestri soundtrack, then this is not Predator.

Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.

I think it's your bias that doesn't let you enjoy it for what it is. If I expected P1 I would hate this movie much as you do. That's the problem sequels have to deal with. People always compare them to prequels and nitpick about everything. Like "how the original was 1000 times better" or "how the original movie had this thing correct"...
But I'm giving it a chance. If it ends up satisfying I will watch it in cinema more than once.

Somewhat agree with your second statement about not getting a good predator movie but still can't be sure without watching the whole thing first.

Are you referring to fugitive throwing a stargazer dude on the table in the lab, and then hitting him on the chest ? If so, i think he has a scalpel in his hands and he's stabbing the poor lad

Swift, beautiful movement by the way.

I think I've warmed up to the fact that he is the main predator in this movie... somewhat.

Based on the trailers, it looks like both Predators are going to have a lot of personality established which is exciting to me. This is something that I felt was lacking with the preds in Predators. There are a few times where they basically behave like your typical slasher serial killer as they slowly stalk behind the characters. Just didn't work for me and left a lot to be desired.

For me the path is to do a movie about a predator as protagonist, a more deep movie about its society, but yeah, the smart way to go is the standar moder movie, a big cgi monster that screams to the camara a lot, roar!! Some bad jokes, many pew pew and explosions.

I would like to see the movie where predator lives, but not sure about the idea of him becoming the protagonist of the story. I mean we would need to get a really good director to pull it of. Until this moment all this monster movies had human as the main character, because it still not about the predator, it's about human characters surviving. So still main point is progression or you could say regression of Dutch character in the first movie. Probably you could pull of Predator being protagonist, but you would need a very talented director for that task  ;)

Agreed. People seem to spend more time nitpicking sequels these days, saying how they will never be as good as the original and never seem to want to give them a chance. The trailers and production problems really didn't help this one and I know we all want the best movie possible but sometimes a fun action movie is enough.

I could understand the complaining more if the other Predator sequels had set the bar extremely high but they have all just been ok action movies, nothing more. Hell this could be better than Predator 2 and Predators for all we know.

After the last trailer, I think The Predator looks like a blast and should be a ton of fun if nothing else.

What's the point? A protagonist shall have a background that can be attached to some kind of ligic/affection/reality the audience can relate to. The utmost interesting thing about the creature is that meanwhile it has some traits that are easy to pick up, the motives are hidden. Even the hints in movies create more questions than they seem to have an answer to. Making the pred the protagonist wouldn't be fun to watch. Eu is another matter.

The predator should never be the protagonist, they tried that with AVPR and it was atrocious. The predator is nothing more than a movie monster. If you try to make him a character and dig deep into his culture than he's just another Klingon or Vulcon. Having a predator lose at the end of every movie is essential, I don't want to watch a whole movie where the characters struggle to survive only to fail in the end. What kind of ending would that be? Who would  that please, except the crazy predator fanboys who have this ridiculous notion that the predator is too badass to ever lose?

So why not do a movie in wich the predator wins?  The smart choice is make a bigger cgi predator? Like indominus, megalodon, doomsday.. Very original yes.. And im not gonna spoil you but the upgrade is gonna die as well...

Totally agree with you, and it's what I am saying too. But I do believe any Idea could work if it had a smart director and producer. Again I am personally not a fan of this idea, but I am trying to follow a rule "Never say never"  ;)

But at the moment, I don't think that would be the right direction.

Yes, I agree  ;) Right now I think the progression goes pretty well I mean:

1) Predator (1987) : has elite force; jungle; one predator
2) Predator 2 (1990) : has a group of cool police detectives; team who knows and is hunting predator; megapolis; one predator and a bunch of them in the end.
3) The Predator (2018) : has a group of "damaged" soldiers( good contrast to Dutch team); bigger team who knows more about predator and even captures one; suburbs, forest, swamp, base, jungle; Two predators one against another; and yehh kid. But overall pretty logical progression if you look at it from this side.
Now I didn't include "Predators" in this progression list because I have a love hate relationship with this movie, and also because Rodriguez dissed "Predator 2"  :(

I think that was more down to AvP:R being a terrible movie full stop. It could've had potential if it was handled far better and Wolf was still the most interesting thing about the movie though, with a few cool action moments (the double head shot is still awesome) and him trying to clean up the mess.

I'd be fine if the Predator walked away, still alive at the end of a movie though, doesn't mean the human's have to die either, there are ways it could be done.

There's nothing good about the "double head shot" either of them.

Humans losing completely would be refreshing, and good bleak stories do exist.

Even if you ignore the cultural concepts introduced in AVP and AVP:R, I feel there are things woven throughout the movies that set the predator apart from being "just another monster." You don't have to delve deeply into his inner thoughts or background or society, or make him a protagonist in the true meaning of the word, to give him a personality and not have him predictably beaten every single time. Then it just becomes just another of these generic slasher flicks with a bunch of equally generic sequels where the same thing always happens. And like Yautja_Warrior said, him remaining alive at the end doesn't necessarily mean we have to see him slaughter every human character, either.

So you did saw the movie ? Talking about execution, you definitely saw it ! Common you can tell us now ! How was it ?

Yes it was so awesome, saw it with five friends and then we soaked up more of it's awesomeness, this movie will live in infamy. You'll love it.

I'll take your word for it. I mean everyone on here saw how relevant and qualified you were on this subject !

There was nothing interesting about Wolf. he was just another predator. No, I take that back, a predator doesn't just walk around like a moron and makes himself vulnerable to aliens and gun fire. Wolf used no intelligence or hunting skills. he's not a predator, he's the predator fanboy's idea of a what a predator is: an unstoppable demi-god.  A single predator sent to stop an Alien outbreak is the most fan-pandering bunch of bullshit I've ever seen in a movie. There were so many moments where he should have just died, or gotten shot, or clawed, or had acid blood splashed on him but logic gets thrown to the wind just so the predator fanboys can have their "badass" predator.

If you want a predator to live without the human characters dying than the predator must be the human's ally, and we all know how predator fans hate that. Or they fight and reach some mutual understanding and I can't imagine what that would be after the predator has killed so many humans.

I'm excited! Will be my first time seeing a Predator film on the big screen. Though that jet/plane combat scene feels too CGI heavy-Marvel-esque for me. The big chad Predator is looking smaller to me now so not as crazy silly as I thought at first but still it's an idea not to my taste.

I hope these trailers haven't shown a lot (as in we haven't seen parts of every major 'battle' sequence from all three acts). I'm very curious as to what time frame this film takes place.

I think you could do an uneasy, reluctant, temporary alliance against a greater enemy without it turning into a "best buds forever" thing.

well it looks better, but if it still contains all that autistic kid cac and they're just pretending it doesn't exist for the sake of a cool trailer, then i'm still not interested.
and i still hate the upgrade. i love the Predator, i don't see the need of a Predator film that has to change the Predator's look, or pretend that the Predator isn't bad-ass enough in and of itself that now it needs another version 10 feet tall etc etc.

Looks pretty cartoonish to me. I just don't understand the obsession with "super" predators and "enhanced" predators. The original predator is an enhanced, super bad-ass hunter/killing machine. You don't need to add to that. Just write an intelligent story, and no it doesn't have to be a rehash of P1 or P2. Plenty of ways to approach the story and you could use the Predator as an allegory for any evil you want, like Cameron used Aliens to symbolize the Vietnam War. Sigh. Whatever, I'll see it anyway just like I've seen every one in the theater since 1987.

Well yeah, I said it could have potential, I never said it was done well in AvP:R because we all know it was terrible, but when the human characters were even more stupid, it made it easier to like Wolf a little more than everyone else in the movie.

Personally I've never had a problem with the Predators being an ally of the humans in the right situation, they are honorable beings after all and I like the deeper lore of the Yautja from the comics, also not everyone hates that stuff, it has a pretty good fan base.

As somebody already said, Cameron did create a Super Huge Alien on steroids too(Queen). You could draw the parallel that it did work in Aliens, so it also could work in "The Predator", if you already used "Aliens" as an example  ;)

Yea, Predators had some fine idea, but in the end the whole concept failed to me because of execution. So I have mixed feelings too, because of practical reasons too (looks and sound)
But like you said, if there's a good buildup, sometime in the future there could be a movie which introduces the predator a bit more like not just a mysterious creature, but a character. Not a full protagonist, but a developing character.

I really hope this movie will help the build-up for a vast world of predators, which is yet full of mystery :)

If you keep doing movies wich the predator always loose whats the point? Always the same.
Avpr was bad, but the best of the movie was thw wolf, and giving a predator some personality is good, look at the comics, they can be complex, they can have amazing background, not just a monster that kills everything, they do it in the comics and works, why not trying it in cinema?
The easy way to is do the same as other movies nowadays, the monster has to be bigger and louder
Title: Re: The Predator | Final Trailer [HD] | 20th Century FOX

The point is the Predator is the villain? Audiences don't relate to him as much as they do to human characters, with human issues? Just like Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees, you know, characters we love but we know they're not supposed to win? Movies are not about the coolest character winning. That's exactly why fan ideas are mostly supposed to be ignored and dissed.

Maybe one day they'll do a Predator: Infinity War and a Predator hunts half the universe and sits on a park on sunrise cracking a cold Coke in celebration.

If any future movies happen, I'd like them to maybe go more into the clan war stuff, hinted at in Predators and this new movie. Let the classic Predator's become awesome again, not just a little bitch for the bigger Predator's to easily kill.

A group of Hunters, tracking some solider (standard Predator stuff to keep the die hard Pred fans happy) but then a group of bad bloods show up and ambush the Hunters, so it turns into an all out war, with the humans caught in the middle trying to survive.

They could throw in an uneasy alliance near the end, the last few Hunters team up with the last few humans to take down the Bad Bloods and the last remaining Hunter respects the humans, maybe giving them a trophy, as they fought well and survived.

Or something like that anyway. A mix of older elements and something hinted at a few times but taken to the next level.

Exactly, City Hunter defeated the whole owlf team, like half the gangs in LA (exaggerating :D) and the finest of LAPD, except Harrigan. He was ferocious, bloodthirsty but calculating. My only problem was with him the too many gadgets, but they were ok. In predators the whole "super" team defeated like six people in the movie, losing 3 of their own in the process. They felt like weaklings, even though were portrayed as beasts.

And City Hunter messing around with people (Lambert, Harrigan) and toying with them gave him a unique personality. He felt like a bully a little, but not the loudmouth type, but the one that takes you down in a sec after he finished playing with you  :D

Yep agree)  Ohhh man I was cool with "Predators" at first, but more i think about it more I get irritated that they downplayed predators so much)
And to think that Rodrigez dissed Predator 2 and and ended up making predators "Feel" so weak  ;D at least Stephen Hopkins did make CIty Hinter cool and dangerous as f...k  ;)

He did?

It's still a better movie than anything he's made.

Ohh sure, it didn't. It's just his attitude towards Predator 2, I got a little bit offended because I am a very big fan of predator 2. And I was like:"okay, bring it on (as a producer)". And at first I liked "Predators" but it did leave a bad taste in my mouth, more I thought about it, more I was getting irritated. Man at least make a cool Predator who feels dangerous. Stephen Hopkins isn't A list Director and I would assume he is much lower league then Rodrigez, but damn his City Hunter was vicious. I know Nimrod Antal and Rodriguez tried to make these group of people the most dangerous people on Earth (like squad of Dutches and Harrigans ) and it's why it's logical that these Three "Baad" Predators lost to them, but the problem is I didn't feel and see these people as Dutches and Harrigans. So yeh I was sad that he dissed my favorite movie and didn't deliver a better movie, but of course it's my personal opinion  ;)

I don't think so. I know there's issues with the film but I still thoroughly enjoy Predators (in fact, it's one of the few I actually get a bit upset about when people slag it off) and I wouldn't say his dislike of Predator 2 showed at all to me.

I definitely agree with you Hicks on those points. Predators of course wasn't perfect or anything, but I still really enjoyed it and it gave some new elements while still playing the story line a little safe I guess. I also liked the cast for the most part, (which is not how I really felt at first about the new The Predator movie, but I'm definitely way more hyped about all of the actors & the overall look of the film so far ;D)

& if Rodriguez had any dislike of Predator 2? I think he maybe just wanted his film totally separate and to not directly tie any parts to it if he wasn't the biggest fan. Instead he went with a story that subtly just referenced the first Predator story, but not the sequel in anyway. Which is ok with me, because it didn't have to connect too much to that film's story I guess for me at least. Still, Predators worked I thought and had some decent quality and effects to it too. It's missing a few extra things I would add/change, but overall it was a step up after the AVP films for sure.

Predators was an absolute mess.. Royce: "we have height advantage, we are in a good spot, we need over lapping fields of fire" ... next minute they all walk off in the complete opposite direction. I mean it was just dumb. Nolan was wasted.  Secondly I'd of had more respect for the film if classic beat mr black. Classic was strung up all through the film only to be butchered at the last minute. It was just awful. It should of ended with Royce being used as bate by classic, classic killing mr black, and then a final showdown with Royce.

LOL there's no way in hell that would make sense as a storytelling mechanism regardless of the 'predator' setting. They went to all that trouble to establish that these new predators were bigger and "better", there's no way they\d contradict that by having an OG predator undo all their work previously in the film. Literally the only purpose classic has was to make the new predators look good.

Oh man Predators is TERRIBLE !

I personally would be okay with classic predator dying and loosing to Berserks, if the whole direction(in terms of directing) of the movie was few levels higher.

Rodriguez doesn't like Predator 2, big deal. Neither do 2.479 other people. Predator 2 is not a popularly well-regarded film. Arnold doesn't like it either. We don't know if Shane likes it - he's addressing it directly in his movie, but that doesn't mean he likes it.

Predators was a fine movie imo, had its issues, sure, but a solid little film. Way better than anything the Alien franchise got after Aliens. And Rodriguez's dislike for Predator 2 was completely irrelevant for that movie. There's no such thing as "ah because he went with that mentality the movie sucked"; no. Most people just don't like Predator 2, and that's it.

I wouldn't say it's because Rodriguez entered the franchise with this mentality that Predators was meh. It just helps understand his arrogance when you clearly see that this film is less fun and memorable overall than predator 2 for a lot of people too.

Predators benefited a lot from the AVP/AVPR effect, which is that anything that came out after would've been regarded as fairly good compared to those turds .

Predator 2 got the opposite effect. It's widely criticized because gna gna no Arnie gna gna no big muscles . Of course it's an inferior movie than the first one, but it's still enjoyable for good reasons too.

That is completely subjective, tho. Predators was generally better received than Predator 2. Critics and most audiences that do like Predators often say is closer to being the sequel the original deserved than Predator 2 ever was. Even if it doesn't look like it from this niche standpoint, that's the majority of people who accept Predators more than they do Predator 2. I don't completely disagree with them, for me Predator 2 and Predators are pretty much in the same level overall, but sometimes my balance tilts a little more in favor of Predators.

I often think about why Predator 2 got dissed the way it did, ever since I first saw it. Never made sense to me. It's a solid film. Of course there will be those who criticize it for the lack of big guns compared to the first one, but I don't think that justifies the widespread bad reception that Predator 2 had. Then I was rewatching it the other day and I think I figured it out, or at least one reason... See, like Shane said in interviews, we all know what the Predator looks like. At this day and age, everybody knows what the Predator looks like so it's very easy to let this slide - especially me, for I saw Predator 2 before I saw the original -, but Predator 2 treats it as if it was the first film. There's this big mystery as to "what is killing those people?", "what does it look like?", "where does it come from?", "why can't we see it?" when people already knew all of those things back then. It keeps hiding the Predator as if we had never seen it before, and the movie never engages in new territory up until the 3rd act, where it finally acknowledges all the things that we already know and moves on to the next step. I think that, for people who saw that movie when it first came out, must've been kinda disappointing. I don't think we should hold that against the movie today, it's an outdated issue - everybody knows what the Predator looks like today and they're gonna go into the first movie knowing that already, so when they get to 2 they won't have that in mind and it won't matter -, but it's just something I was thinking.

I think it's a little different with Predators, because it very quickly reveals the Crucified Predator. So then the question becomes if that thing is there, what are the ones hunting them? But right after the Berserkers attack during that scene, they are immediately fully revealed. Up until then the film does a fine job in portraying how differently these new Predators hunt, with the dogs and the Falcon and everything, but from then on it kinda falls short on keeping that up.

I kinda agree, but what you said about predator 2 trying to keep the predator mysterious despite most people knowing who he is, applies totally and even more powerfully to Predators...

Yes some ideas could've been interesting, but are underused/useless (the falcon thing, the fact that they are on an alien planet that feels exactly like earth...)

Yeah, I guess Predators was an idea for a $100mi budget that was forced to be compressed under $40mi, and that's probably the film's biggest issue.

Oh no, he isn't adressing it in the movie and it doesn't have affect on it other then he acknowledges the things from first movie and ignores the second. It wasn't what I am saying, BigDaddyJohn sayed it better "I wouldn't say it's because Rodriguez entered the franchise with this mentality that Predators was meh. It just helps understand his arrogance when you clearly see that this film is less fun and memorable overall than predator 2 for a lot of people too. "

Predators are okay with me, it just was less fun then Predator 2, they had 3 predators and they tryed to make them more scarier then fisrt two. But this predators got killed by 8 people(8?). I mean my problem is that this group of people was like group of the most dangerous people on Earth, but they didn't feel like Dutch,  or Mike Harrigan. I would believe that team of 8 Dutches or 8 Harrigans would kill 3 predators, but team of these guys who were in the movie, no. And it's not problem of the actors, they are all good. It's just we know Harrigan is bad ass, because we can compare him to all his other team mates, we know Dutch is freaking dangerous because we can compare to everybody else too. And when Dutch or Harrigan killes the Predator in the end, we are not surprised or feel cheated, we knew this guys were the top of their game. Now when I see how Falconer and Tracker died in the Predators, I was underwhelmed, and it felt anticlimactic. The idea of a yakuza fighting with Predator in the field with high grass was a good idea, I didn't feel the scene, didn't feel the action(the music cover of "Billy" theme with asian motive was great ). The way Tracker died was lame too, and felt lazy. Action between Mr Black and Classic, was ok for me, action between Royce and Mr Black was worse.

Again Rodriguez didn't straight up dissed second movie in his movie, but him dissing "Predator 2" in the interview, and not delivering it for me personally, felt like the boxer who trash talks, and after getting KO by another boxer(not saying that Predator 2 KO Predatos  ;))

I am admiting that Predator 2 is kind of controversial in the fan base of predator(and not only fan), and I do agree that Stephen Hopkins isn't a great director, and more likely weaker then Rodriguez, but I do feel that he made much more "FUN" Predator movie(With a bad ass Predator). Again could be my subjectivity  ;)  Also "It keeps hiding the Predator as if we had never seen it before" they did show City Hunter early in the movie  ;) they didin't keep him in secret as much as Jungle Hunter  :)

Right, but we can't really blame Rodriguez for that. We're always crediting Predators to him, but he didn't direct that movie. He only produced it, and wrote the very very first draft of the script that was mostly scrapped. Nimród Antal was the director, and any issues the film may have had on the portrayal of the Predators and characters are his fault a lot more than they are Rodriguez's. Rodriguez himself is a brilliant director, if he had actually directed Predators, it would've been a completely different movie.

well as a Producer he had a lot of shots to call, so he could see where everything is going, and him being a director too and also more experienced guy then Nimrod, I puting a lot of responsobility on him, even though it could be not fair I agree. I guess it's only because He dissed Predator 2, I don't think Nimrod dissed Predator 2 in interview  ;D

Honestly from a technical standpoint, Rodriguez isn't that skilled, and showed lazyness in the behind the scenes of some of his films, but that's another topic.  ;)

I do like predator 2, well not at the beggining but after years i ended liking it a lot, and city hunter design was beautifull.
That also happened with predators, in the cinema i was dissappointed, but rewatching it, its not that bad, it has interesting ideas, hounds (that doesnt have dreads..), the falcon, another planet... The film doesnt develop it well but its a film i ended liking.
Avp is massive hated, but i dont think its that bad, the whole idea is interesting, problem is the timeline, it should have been the future, and not in the earth, a d some colonial marines please

I agree with Nathsp on that one. I don't think either of the AVP films are massive disasters, to me they're just very mediocres. I've been through worse. They do have interesting ideas, and as much as they could've worked fine in the setting and context they chose for those movies, I think it's just a much better idea in general to make it in the future.

If they do AVP again now after The Predator, I don't think I'll want a film immediately set on the future tho, because it looks like they plan to develop it across the films before making an AVP crossover, like a proper shared universe, and I'm completely down for that if they pull it off. But we'll see, this film has to be a success first.

Dave Dorman's design is lacking.

No disrespect to Spaghetti, but strongly disagree. Dorman's design was beautiful and flowing and would've looked amazing on screen.

still very undecided but im gonna level with you guys. the hounds, they are trash, straight up dumpster juice. why would they change the entire species of the dogs when they already established a breed of hunting dogs in predators but instead we get these goofy looking dreadlocked mutts.

all i wanted was a movie where the predator was treated like the real threat they are but the studio and directors always insist that he just isnt enough they gotta be super predators or bio enhanced gene spliced i dont know sorry im venting i know im prob in the minority and sound like a debbie downer

I think this shared a sizable role in the the film's ultimate failure (among other elements of course.) While I still enjoy watching AvP(R), the stories were just...bad. I think part of the reason is due to the original stories being set in the future. The foundation was right there for them to use! So many different stories they could have chosen from, but instead they decided to come up with their own material from the outset - admirable in a way, but risky - and ultimately a story that was and has sort of always been meant to take place in the future was forced into present time. It just...doesn't go well with traditional AvP. I feel like them changing the time period just set it up for failure from the get-go  :-\ Granted, I still like the movies for entertainment purposes, but that decision did not do AvP justice.

I wonder how AVPR would have been received had it been set on some planet with a Rhyushi-like colony rather than Gunnison county and swap the teens for colonists and the national guard soldiers for colonial marines?

I would suspect even something as superficial as a change in setting would have benefited the movie a lot more. It still would have been a let down given the quality of the script I'm sure, but it would have at least felt more closer to expectation.

Having the movies set on present day earth does a massive detriment to them in my opinion.

I mean, it would've been more entertaining, for sure. But unless you add depth to the characters, give the film a decent direction and a satisfying conclusion to the conflict, that doesn't make it good. It would've been better, but on a very superficial level, and I think the reception would only have been different amongst fans. Critics and general audiences would've bashed it just the same - if not more.

There was a lot more wrong with that film than just the setting.

The Predator putting characters in similar situations kind of proves it.

I know there was. I'm simply saying the setting shot the film in the foot before it even got going.

But such a superficial change to bring it more in line with the rest of the franchises may at least have elevated it a little in some people's eyes.
