Here's an interview with Maggs that came out last year, luckily someone reposted it on Alien Day so here it is! Looks like Maggs would be game to continue on from the cliffhanger of Gibson's script. I say let him, give me the Alien multiverse!

Yes he is, I just wish the guy got to do a story worthy of his efforts, like The Cold Forge.

I've never really been a fan of the Gibson scripts, but the recent adaptations have really brought it to life in a way that's been pretty enjoyable.  Henriksen does sound quite old in this, but it's okay once you get used to it.  Some of the big violent scenes with people transforming into Hybrids are laughably underplayed.

But overall it ended up being a fun listen - despite the fact it really emphasises how much more work this script needed.  It's very uneven, and there's no obvious hero until the final act when Hicks takes on the mantle.  But he's often absent throughout the first half, and I think this displays that he's really a sidekick rather than the hero.  Spence, Tatsumi, Fox, Welles, Jackson, Rosetti, Sterling, Walker and Halliday are all underdeveloped and almost interchangeable (okay maybe not Fox and Welles).  Tully has a bit more to work with, but not much.

Maggs and co did a pretty good with the material they had to work with.

Quote from: Corporal Hicks on Jun 27, 2019, 07:22:11 AMPretty sure it was in the first draft.

It was indeed.

Ironic how the idea seemingly came from interviews with Ridley at the time of Alien's release, only for him to later make it decidedly not ancient

Yeah the word ancient really puts the cat among the pigeons there when you put it in the sentence. I really like how this script doesn't pussy foot around with vague ideas, it straight up puts some science in there.

Sorry if this has been answered, but was the line in this script about the Alien DNA being an ancient designed weapon ( and also the mutating grey stuff) always in the script ? Pretty interesting that some of the Prometheus ideas were floating about even back then.

Pretty sure it was in the first draft.

I think so. Hicks love to mention how much Covenant borrowed from Gibson's script.

Well Prometheus and Covenant proof nothing is gone. Though it's more Chariot of the Gods than anything exclusively Alien, you can argue Prometheus borrowed quite heavily from O'Bannon's first draft too.

EDIT: I'm only half way through the audio.
