Title: what an AVP movie needs
Post by: Alien Drone 531 on Jul 29, 2010, 01:28:20 AM
Now don't get me wrong, i like the 2 AVP movies, but the Alien franchise started as a horror franchise. I think, if they make a new AVP movie it should have sometime of horror aspect to it. The 2 AVP movies were action films and i think if they do a next one it should be more ... i don't know .... horror-ish. i mean it should defiantly have some action but i think over-all it should have that horror, creepy, Giger-ish feel to it. I don't know... i'm just shooting an idea....

I have to agree with you. What's to lose at this point after AVP & AVPR? Why not shoot for something with a much darker tone (no pun intended) in vein to Alien and Alien3.

Because Predator is an action film and the titles says "vs" which means one fighting the other.

Anderson tried the slow tension build stuff like Alien and failed completely.

another thing with the AVP movies, and it would help with the creepy/horror feel, is that the chestburster comes to soon. in the Alien movies it take like a day to grow in the chest and like another day to grow into a full grown alien. its much more creepy in my opinion.

Alien and Alien 3 were the best, deffinatly got that horror aspect in them (plus they are both Giger's Aliens so ... AWESOMENESS!!!)  ;D ;D ;D

It could just simply be the pacing. Granted, some people will want to jump right into the action like the two AVP films did, but pacing similar to Aliens could help. Actually, the first three Alien films did a great job with their pacing.

That says more about that particular film than the approach as a whole.

I think it would work great done with more sense, but Anderson subverted himself.

Anderon wasted that slow build stuff by not actually building any tension or deepening the characters.

You could have more horror in an AvP flick, but it needs to primarily be an action flick.

You can always pull an Aliens by switching genres once the action ramps up.

What I think it definitely needs is a good writer, NOT a first time writer or some unknown TV writer. The studio is saving in places where they shouldnt. Hire a big, proven writer of some classics, hire a big known serious director and Im all for it. When I see credits to crap like AVPR. Die Hard 4 or Predators its like a KEEP OFF sign for me (Not that it was bad, but could be some much more). Its fine for some new movies, but its ridiculous for sequels of some iconic franchises

How many proven writers and directors would want to touch AvP now?

Come on, who wouldn't want to take a shot at the glory that would be involved in reviving such a beloved, yet abused concept? Especially when said concept involves two of the most beloved science fiction creatures ever created.

Someone who's had a rough streak in recent years, and needs to take on a small risky gig to reclaim a name for his/herself.

Probably that ^.

Someone on top of their game would avoid it at present.

It needs Predators talking.
And they should be voiced by T-Pain, Tobey Maguire, and Hugo Weaving.

Well, now its too late. But they shouldve done the right thing from the beginning. Lets just hope that Ridley's still got it in him and that the age hasnt gotten to him yet and that he'll reclaim the name for the Alien franchise. One way or another, itll be nice to again see an Alien movie with an A list director in the credits

I think the AvP movies if there is to be a 3rd installment needs not to be so darl. And by Dark, i mean barely see anything. In AvP & AvP:R there were seens that were done at night and it was so dark you couldnt enjoy the look of the Predators or Aliens bc you didnt know exactly what you where looking at.

I think that the next AvP need Humans (Mailitary) v Xenomorphs v Yautja's!
Humans are aware of these alien species and are fearful of invasions/infestations.
First part of the film takes place on earth were the humans attack the predators and place a tracking beakon on there ship.
The dont make it to the Yautjas' homeworld but on another unknown planet and find themselves interupting a Hunt and a Battle for survival erupts!

To be honest i know that the Yautja Hunt in 3s, but it would be nice to see a whole clan again like they did in Predator 2. You dont neccessarily have to see all them fight/hunt but it would be nice to see them

What's the mailitary? Is it like a mail in mercenary? "Contact us at PO Box 6 for your free mercenary! And with every purchase you get a FREE, no charge, completely brand spanking new DVD video on how to find Osama."

An interesting location.

Predator was a jungle. P2 was a concrete jungle. Why not a steel jungle? Set the movie on the back of something like the Nostromo's refineries, with gothic spires standing in for tree branches.

Preds get their sniping places and Aliens get their futuristic locale.

The Predator temple location was plenty interesting and that didn't save the film.

Although I do like that idea. Especially if some elements of Fiorina's leadworks were to be thrown in.

Let's go down the list shall we? I honestely liked most of the Pred designs so far though.

Good actors
Good Predator designs (the Xeno designs in previous AVP films were decent IMO)
Good actors in the Pred suits
The main Pred being more like the favored Anytime
The Xenos being more of a challenge for the Pred in a fight to show they are a major or decent threat to the main Pred
Good enviroment (say in space but that would require a large budget if they wanted it to look top notch)

Just a few things off the top of my head.
