What i know about the weapons it's that they should not be given to me. Otherwise i would use it against anybody who disagree with me.
Really, when somebody pisses me off i just imagine using machine gun against him - it makes me feel better a little.

Pistol is always a solid first choice because it automatically covers all roles. It is both adequate for home defense, and small and concealable enough to not be a physical/legal burden should the need arise to carry a firearm outside of the home.
The best thing to do is to go to a range and rent/try a variety of pistols to see which caliber and design suits you best .
Everybody has a perfect caliber . It's all a matter of finding it . There are simply far too many women who are led to believe they can only shoot a small firearm adequately, and too many men who get firearms in calibers too large for them to manage effectively in a defensive situation.
It's about what you shoot effectively and accurately. It's about being comfortable and confident in your ability with the particular firearm and cartridge that suit you best. Don't let anyone tell you what works best for you. Your body and the guns will do that for you.

What's the teacup grip?
It's a type of grip thats used when shooting pistols. The idea is to keep your nondominant hand underneath the magazine as some kind of support , instead of two hands locked together and overlapping around the grip frame of the gun .
The problem with a teacup grip used in conjunction with a semi automatic pistol , is that when there is an accident involving the improper discharge of a round, the magazine can be blown downwards out of the pistol injuring the supporting hand underneath it.
This can be seen with Glock pistols online. In those cases, in adequate chamber support results in case over expansion which allows the round to basically explode in the barrel. the resulting gases and explosion of which blow the magazine downwards and out of the pistol and can damage the slide and crack the frame. Sometimes, all it takes is a factory or reloaded round that has been double charged, which means it has accidentally been given too much Powder in the casing.
Basically what it all comes down to, is don't put your hand underneath the magazine. Just like you wouldn't put your hand in front of the barrel and pull the trigger. If something goes wrong, and that magazines comes flying down out of the gun , you don't want your hand there.
In the same token, never put your hand or any part of your hand near the cylinder of a revolver. There is a small gap the bulle must pass through between the front of the cylinder and the start of the barrel in front of it. Within the small space hot gases and flame escape during the firing of the round. If your hand is anywhere near it , it's going to blow your finger off like a hot dog .
Above all, remember these simple rules. Failure to comply will result in being ripped asunder.
1. Always treat all firearms as if they were loaded. Keep all actions open and on a safe surface when not in use.
2. Never allow the muzzle of any firearm to point at anything you are not willing to destroy or kill.
3. Keep your booger hook off the bang switch and on the frame of the weapon until you are on target and ready to shoot. Do not depend on any mechanical device for safety! Your trigger finger IS your safety.
4. Always be sure of your target, the backstop, and what lies beyond.
My instructor for firearms at the Sheriff's Office was a former Marine Corps Drill Instructor. Ask me how many times I didn't mess up because of that.

Yep. My grandfather was a sharpshooter and then an instructor during his time in the army. He taught everybody else how to shoot, then he taught my dad how to shoot, and my old man taught me. The one time my dad forgot what his old man taught him, he blew the window out the side of the house. Never made that mistake again.
If my old man can forget, anybody can. So always pay close attention.

I'm more of an AR-15 or handgun guy. But I got a Remmington 870 Tactical shotgun for home defense. Customized with after market magpul mods.

I used to run a model 65 in 357 and a Mossberg persuader. Full length mag tube, 7+1, pistol grip and heat shield from the factory. I ditched the pistol grip and installed a Phoenix collapsible stock. Switched that out for a raptor grip then sold the thing cause I didn't trust the polymer trigger assembly.
I prefer double action magnum caliber revolvers backed with a good centerfire rifle. Right now I run an old marlin 336 in 30-30, pre buyout so its still got the quality. Found it sitting somewhere getting ignored, thank god, I'd wager it was one of the last ones around. Bought it brand new on the spot. Haven't seen another one since, not even used. But I only break that out for serious trouble.
Alongside that I switched my magnum out to a Ruger GP100 in 357 last year. Stainless steel with the 4.2" barrel. Built like a German tank and 100% American made. Got it sitting here next to me.

My cousin used to have a Chinese AK in .223, that thing was pretty fun. We'd go out and blast away at this old shed with it and his 41 magnum. Now he just owns an old buckmark and a ruger p-series 9mm.
First gun I ever learned to shoot on was a 1979 Remington wingmaster pump. Thing was mint, only had like 20 shells put through it at the time. Pure craftsmanship from front to back.
I don't shoot as much recreationally as I used to. But I usually turn to the 10/22 carbine for that. Ruger nailed it with those bx25's.
Now, if they'd just come out with a .40 version of their pc carbine, that might change. Because I love me some .40 s&w

I'm a winchester man myself when it comes to 30-30, but I use various brands for everything else. Federal is always cheap but really seems to shoot dirty. Winchester pistol ammo always looks like it's been through a woodchipper. I've ran some fiocchi in 357 and that was clean as glass. Hornady really seems to have it going on though.

Depends. For service rounds in my pistol? Hornady critical duty rounds. Otherwise, I go for Federal.
I'm really impressed with Hornady. I like Speer Gold Dots as well. Federal is hard to find in my area, but I like the price point. The last box I picked up had gone sour though. Some of the brass was going green.

I heard while at I was at the academy that a nearby Sheriff's Office had a deputy who was at qualification have a bad round go through his pistol and it pretty much blew up in his hands. Sig sauer .40's looked and shot amazing. I had them back when I had my old agency's Sig Sauer P320 Full .40. I have my own smaller Sig Sauer P320c .9mm I actually just bought a magnet mount for my personal car for it when I am learning the new streets on my off days. Otherwise it will be my backup gun. Drawing from the holster in a seated position is ass. Especially when reaction is slower than action in a gun fight.
I hear ya. We have legal car carry here now so mine just sits in its holster beside me or in the floor. It's just easier to reach and manipulate that way. I remember years ago at one of my old jobs (before car carry was legal), we had a rash of incidents involving irate and threatening customers showing up after hours and sometimes harassing the employees to they extent they felt unsafe. Some were actually stalking.
There for awhile, when we'd be working late into the night, I and another employee would both go get in our cars and use them to block the entrance doors while the others were closing up shop inside. We'd see everybody to their cars and we'd stay until they all left safely. All we had were our box cutters. I was glad when they passed the law.
I've been hearing some good words about that Sig brand ammo lately. Mostly on YouTube. I'll have to check that out.

Not as smooth as say, my model 65 is, but keep in mind I've got hundreds of full house magnums through that gun and I've worked the action a few thousand times.
My gp100 is still nearly new. It was a little tight at first. When I put it in full lockup and slowly let the trigger out I could hear the spring grind just a little, but after working the action over and over its gone.
The trigger pull is more than reasonable, but I prefer and am used to a heavy trigger pull so I might be biased. Firing from single action is smooth as butter, as you would expect. The grip on it is just phenomenal. Fills the hand up. The revolver itself is huge but the weight isn't any greater than my 65. The 4.2 inch barrel is perfectly balanced, and sits much better in the hand than other revolvers I've owned or shot.
It was dead accurate from the factory, so I haven't fooled with the sights. The cylinder lockup is everything they say it is. It's like stone. I don't ever see myself shooting this thing loose. Having the push button cylinder release on the side is much more comfortable than the smith/taurus design. Even on the old Colts you had to push the release backwards. All you have to do with the ruger is push in on the button. Easiest revolver to open. Takes almost not effort and there's no danger of slippage.
All in all its perfect for my needs. It's big, reliable, and solid as a rock. Just a grossly overbuilt piece of American steel that does exactly what it's supposed to right out of the box. By God I love it.
It's a good gun.
It's well designed and all American. Simple to use, simple to teach with. Shoots both light (38) and heavy (357) cartridges. Ammo is readily available in my area due to its non tactical nature. Speedloaders only cost $9 a pop, so 99% of all my gun money goes to ammo. All I gotta do is feed it, and she ain't ammo sensitive. If I need it to, the dang thing swings and hits like a hammer.
Rounds can sit in it forever and wear nothing down, and it's all backed by the best warranty service in the industry. I could go my whole life with just this gun. I'll have it til I die.
The holy sh!ts I get when people hold it are nice too. ;)
Now I just need an Alaskan in .44, cause you know, muto's and such. :laugh:

I like marksman rifles. Something so satisfying about them. They take so much skill and talent to use. But then again, I have read close to a dozen sniper books. I've studied techniques developed by the Germans, the U.S. Marine Corps, Russians, Finnish, etc.

I was seriously considering the GP100 1771, but then I read some reviews saying that certain brands of ammo don't fit because Ruger didn't enlarge its cylinder to accommodate the higher capacity. So I went back to the 1705 because I want to be able to use any .357 or .38 cartridge that I throw at it.

It's true. Thats why I picked up my 1705. Plenty of meat between those torpedo tubes.

If that doesn't handle it, then I've obviously engaged in combat with the devil himself. Heck, if 6 rounds of full house 357 magnums won't do it, I'm getting the hell outta dodge.
I haven't heard much about the 8 shot redhawk though. I was praying for an 8 shot Ruger 357 for years. I need to look into that one some more.
S&W has made them for years, but between their atrocious QC with their revolvers over the last few years and the fact that the cylinders are too short to accommodate all loads, I opted to wait for Ruger to step up.

I try to keep tabs on the online reviews for different ammo brands, in case QC begins to slip or some other issues present themselves I won't waste my money on bad ammo.
I pretty much just shoot name brands. For 357's I stick with hollow points for social work and fmj for the woods. Right now I've got some standard ol' 158 grain federal soft points for recreational use. Those normally run me about $27 for a box of 50 before tax, and before shipping if I'm ordering them online. Cabelas has upped their prices recently though, and I'm not paying over $31 and then $6 shipping for one box of ammo. And like I've mentioned earlier, the last box of those I bought were darn near growing mold.
I recently picked up 2 boxes of those 110 grain winchester hollow points from walmart. paid about $30 for the first one and $24 for the second box when they went on sale a few weeks later. Both boxes had many rounds that looked like they'd been chewed. The crimp was completely curled back on one of them. There were about 4 rounds total that were too damaged and dangerous to use. Bought a box of .40 fmj winchester white box and it had a round that had been pushed way back in the casing, so I basically avoid any bargain handgun ammo from Winchester. Their rifle ammo has always been in good shape though.
I won't buy Remington ammo. Heard too many horror stories, and the last 2 boxes of their rifle ammo I bought were in such bad shape, I called the store and advised them to pull it before somebody used it and got hurt.
As for .38's, the fmj's from federal are nice though. Only about $20 for those.
Unless I'm shooting a 357 carbine, I'm staying away from the junk ammo from now on. I'll be sticking to hornady ammunition and Speer gold dots in my revolver. I want the best ammo possible.
On a side note, I keep my rounds in those 100 count mtm ammo boxes. Before that, even in the retail box and an ammo can with moisture absorbers, the casings would start to oxidize after a awhile. Since I started using the little $3 mtm boxes, I've not had a round go sour since. I couldn't recommend them enough. Use them for all my ammo now, including my rifle. When that psycho got loose last year, I didn't have to fiddle with opening cans and then paper boxes. I popped open that mtm and chose my preferred load.

Mine cost me $700 even, and that's factoring in the background check. But the thing here is the sales tax kills ya when you buy guns. Otherwise it would've only been like $630.

I'm in California and just recently turned my 10 round mags into 30 rounders, thanks to the new ruling. 8)
Going to buy a 60 round PMAG D-60 while I still can. Also looking at the 5 round mag extensions for my HK USP 45.
Watched a special on one of the gun channels this morning about home protection and all that stuff.
Iron grates on the Windows and fully loaded guns stashed all over the house. I've heard and seen that a lot. I've met guys who keep loaded guns all over the place. Behind every door, in the cabinet, under the bathroom sink. I'm always thinking, that's great but where's the one on your hip? Do these guys not home carry at all?
Some meth head is gonna wind up blasting somebody with their own hardware because they left a fully loaded shotgun by the door that just got kicked in. Makes no sense to me.
And the grates. What if your house catches fire? What if you're asleep and only wake up once the fire has already spread out of control, sealing off the doorways? It would've been nice to not have those Windows barricaded.
I know there's a difference between fear and awareness, but c'mon man.
I don't think I could live in a fortress. If I needed all that to feel safe where I was living, I think I'd just sell the extra guns and gear for gas money and get the hell outta dodge.

I went through a phase where I played around with all kinds of tactical doodads and wanted a house that locked down like the one in I am legend. But it passed quickly. Too much money in gear and it just didn't appeal to me anymore. I'm a minimalist, and prefer the mobility and peace of mind that offers in an emergency. That and I'm a firm believer in the grey man philosophy. So I just can't do tactical anymore.
I got fire extinguishers, candles and emergency lights if the power goes out. I have some old motorcycle helmets for tornado season. My rifle is unloaded and in heavy lockdown, and my magnum is always loaded and on me or at least sitting within close reach. If I'm in the bathroom, it's in there with me. The kitchen, the bedroom, etc. I don't want to potentially arm intruders by leaving guns all over the house. I like knowing that the only accessible weapon is in my possession if and when the time comes.
Sh*t happens. I don't wanna give our friend Murphy an edge when it does.
I'm not a tactical timmy, as I avoid having too much bling on my weapons. I generally stop at grips or lights.
How about a good solid melee weapon?
Are we talking maglites or fleshlites?
Fleshlights are more fun, but all that plastic and silicone hardly makes for a suitable cudgel.

The ammo selection at my local Walmart is crap. I can get the ammo I like for my rifle, but I'm out of luck with pistol ammo. And I don't have a local source for high-end defensive ammunition, so I'm gonna have to find somewhere else online.
I've traditionally used federal, but the last box I bought was covered in mold, and even in Hickok's video he just put up on YouTube, a round of federal .357 failed to fire on multiple attempts. He also described it as "chewed", which is something I've begun to see a lot more of with low end ammunition, primarily from Winchester and Remington. I think I'm just going to set aside what I have on hand for plinking, and just pick up two or three good boxes of Speer and Hornady. You can't cut corners with your carry ammo.
This is one of the primary reasons I roll my eyes when people always talk about online ammunition sales negatively. I have no local resources for decent and trustworthy handgun ammunition. I shouldn't have to trust my life to junk.

For some people, it's not. That's just the way it is. Personally, I think they just see the number 6 and start to panic. They think, "How can I defend myself with only 6 shots?"
So instead of telling you why it's enough for you, let me tell you why it's enough for me, and why I trust my life to it.
A full size 357 was my first gun. I've shot them for as long as I can remember. I'm used to it. It's what I shoot best and it's what I'm most comfortable with. I own and use speedloaders and speedstrips. I've practiced loading with both, and have been forced to load with both under significant pressure. Twice I've been caught with an unloaded revolver. Once when I was cleaning it, and once when I was foolish enough to not load it before going to bed. In both those instances, I found myself under physical and mental duress that affected my fine motor skills. And in both instances, I successfully loaded the revolver in under 2.5 seconds.
Thusly, I'm not worried about having 6 shots because 6 can become 12 in mere seconds. And 12 becomes 18, and so on. Capacity is a non issue for me personally. I have the means to reload my weapon, and the experience to do it quickly and correctly.
My personal confidence in the 6 shots is also due to the round itself. A 357 magnum isn't just a hot .38. I've shot .38+p and there's still a big difference. Now, I'm no ballistics expert. I don't reload my own ammo, I just buy ammo and shoot the guns, and I've done a lot of that with this caliber. Here in the southeast, we have mean critters, and methheads, and all kinds of things that don't necessarily go down with one shot from a 9mil.
I'm not crazy enough to try for head shots while coming out of rem sleep, nor will I just unload in all directions if I'm shot at or hear something. Life is precious. I intend to be as accurate and aware as the situation allows, but I need a firearm that's easy to use under adverse conditions and that is going to put an amen to bad business as quick as possible. I've seen what this thing can do. This round is going to go through doors and walls or windshields and still hit hard. And it's going to inflict massive damage upon direct impact with soft targets.
So what does it all come to? Basically, I've got 6 rounds of very heavy medicine, with as much on backup as I personally want. Reloading is not an issue for me, and I've done it effectively under stress. When the psycho was on the loose, I was confident in my weapon. In the dark, in the woods, in bad parts of town, I'm confident in my weapon. Every night I go to sleep, I'm confident in my weapon and my ability to use it effectively. It's a machine, and I learned to run it like anything else. As long as I feed it, it will keep firing, period.
A 6 shot 357 magnum isn't a poodle, it's a bull moose. I've never felt outgunned with one, and likely never will.

I've fired a .357 revolver before and I'm comfortable with it. More comfortable, strangely, than with my .40. I don't trust semi-autos for some reason.

Well put. My advice for the question is having a gun with a lower ammo capacity does come with some risks (if not properly trained), and one should understand those risks and be ready to make some calculated decisions, especially when the heat is on.
I'll always prefer a semi. More shot capacity, more easily modded, easier to reload.
If you are worried about it jamming, clean the f**ker.
I'm not planning for the OK Corral over here. If any confrontation I might get into requires more than six shots, I'm probably f**ked anyway.
If you are in a shootout at handgun distance, expect misses.
I'd rather have the extra ammo for when that huge adrenaline dump settles down and you can actually work your way onto target.

I am. I'm going to be the guy who gets bit and conceals the wound, insisting I'm fine as I get sicker and sicker. You know what happens after that.
I like stock guns now. The mods took up too much cash, and didn't add much in the end except to make the guns jury bait.
I enjoy having a plain, powerful, and reliable weapon right from the factory.
And I like the little bonuses that come with revolvers. The fantastic Hogue grips that come on many of them, and the exquisite single action trigger pull. They don't sound scary in casual conversation, and you don't see them being discussed in the media very much. Furthermore, they'll be one of the last weapon types to be banned, if we ever see another ban in the US (which I personally believe we will). I'm no Fudd, and I know "ban proof" is a much maligned term, but revolvers are about as close as you can come to the concept.

Misses in such situations are unacceptable. If you can't hit the people shooting at you, don't pull the trigger. You could hit somebody else, and that comes with a crap-ton of legal, moral, and mental anguish. If someone's in a shootout, they don't have the luxury of waiting for an adrenaline dump to settle down. They'll be getting shot at. By the time anything settles down biologically, that person might (and probably would) be shot or dead already.
The goal should be to learn and train to fire accurately while under physical and mental pressure, not to still have enough ammo left after sending bullets where they shouldn't go, or waiting too long to defend one's self. If someone can't hit "center mass" at handgun distances, then they should be escaping, not risking the lives and safety of other innocent people.

I almost bought the same gun a few years ago. But the issues Remington is having with their coatings (and everything really) turned me off. My aunt's ex husband actually bought one new, and only kept it in the closet and under the bed. He shot it maybe 4 times just to practice. When I saw it a year later, the thing was rusted like a sunken ship.
That and the ejector is held in by some rivets. If it has any problems or breaks, it has to go back to Remington to be fixed. Mossberg has there's held in by a screw, so you can change it out yourself if there's ever a problem. But Mossberg had its issues too, so I switched to the revolver.
I guess I'll save that money for boxes of .357 then.

I'm not going to go into how all this is extremely unrealistic, but if everybody plugged everyone they ever shot at the murder rate everywhere would skyrocket and wars would be won in short order.
It takes YEARS of training to get that good in combat situations. Delta Force literally shoots more per year than the ENTIRE Marine Corps and that is like 250 dudes. So just imagine how much you'd have to shoot as an individual to be part of a group that outshoots an ENTIRE BRANCH of the US Military.
You basically just reiterated the rules of firearm safety, but I think most people would agree that those rules are much harder to follow in combat situations.
Especially when you aren't given the upper hand in a fight. Like if somebody walks behind you and starts blasting and you don't expect it.
I'm not as proficient as someone like Raging Dragon would have been being with the 75th but I have been doing the thing for the US Army for eight years and have had plenty of CQM training. Where we train in full kit with sprints and pushups to get our heartrate up to simulate what actually happens in real combat.
I'm not saying its not a bad rule to follow, everyone SHOULD obey those rules to the best of their ability. But if you don't think adrenaline is going to effect you, or your rapidly pounding heart, or your breathing when a badguy is unloading on you then stop what you are doing now, go down to Fort Bragg, and apply for Delta.
This isn't even bringing up the entire mental aspect of it. If you are a normal person your body will rebel against you when you try to take a life. Most of brm in basic is designed for future soldiers to see the enemy as nothing more than targets and not people. If you haven't had that conditioning, which takes months to settle in (and for lots of joes it never does, google 10% of soldiers fired their weapons in WWII) then you most likely will struggle when the moment of truth comes in.
There are reasons that soldiers and police carry semi/automatic weapons with multiple magazines and not revolvers and bolt action rifles. It's because they know they aren't going to hit everything they shoot at. Could range from everything from suppression, to probing by fire, to the mad minute to establish fire superiority in which rounds are flying all over the place to keep the enemies head down so you can move into the positions you need to break contact, flank, or assault through.
By all means, you do you. I will take more ammo.
I hear what you're saying. But as a civilian, I train myself to deal with civilian threats. I don't train for war. If I ever have to defend myself, it's going to be in a Wal-Mart parking lot, or the mall, or at the grocery store, or in my own home. There's likely to be other innocent people around, and I have no wish to shoot someone accidentally because I couldn't control my aim under stress and fired when I shouldn't have.
You did not mention your experience and service in your comment. What I saw appeared to be another civilian talking about expecting to miss in a civilian engagement at close distances. That's what I was responding to. Yes, by all means pack as much as possible if you're fighting terrorists or gang members. In everyday life, that's not a likely scenario for me or your average Joe. That's why I don't mind carrying a revolver.
As for the body and mentality, I've shot while dealing with actual adrenaline dumps. Thank goodness it was just because I had the presence of mind to seize the opportunity to test myself, and not because I needed to defend myself with deadly force (praise God). For us civvies, I absolutely believe we should work as hard as possible to control our reactions because other people's safety depends on it. I don't want to hurt my neighbors child because I wasn't used to firing under duress and missed at 8 feet in my own home.
We're just 2 different dudes with different needs and life experiences. Even if someone can't get on target when it gets going, we should all try our best to overcome that, because we all have a responsibility to each other.

Either you were shooting lever evolution ammo or the gun was dirty and/or poorly manufactured. Mine runs butter smooth, and it's only getting better with age and use.
Most levers are a little stiff when you first buy them though.

Probably. The more this happens, the more public perception will be that every "good guy with a gun" is just one bad day away from becoming a mass murderer.
They will either take all the guns away (or try) or everybody on earth will carry and it'll be like the wild west.
It's a conundrum. I'm not a big fan of reactionary politics and decision making. Just because I don't personally like or trust most of the tactical platforms doesn't mean I would wish to deprive other people of what they felt was necessary for their own safety and defense.
But there's such a stigma attached to modern firearms that a return of the ban seems almost inevitable at this point.
Since all of these gun laws are yielding the opposite results as intended, maybe it's time to to reverse them. Where there is more gun control there is more violent crime. Less gun control, less violent crime. Could work. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Last I heard, the NRA is losing people like crazy. Most every prominent voice I've seen within the gun community has moved away from them. But I hear that's because they're living too high on the hog, and also their support of the bumpstock ban.

I wouldn't be sorry to see them go. I'm a diehard 2nd amendment guy and I've never believed they had my best interests in mind.
I think the background checks will pass, and haven't heard anything yet that would convince me they would pose a problem. The red flag stuff worries me because of a lack of due process. Which I'm glad to see is finally being discussed in Ohio. I honestly think we're within 2-5 years of a new AWB. Makes me glad I'm a revolver and lever gun guy.

The truth is always in the middle. There is too much gun violence in the USA, but it is not nearly what the media portrays it to be.
Measures should be taken for it to be harder for some random f**kwit to murder innocents, but stricter gun control laws right now will do absolutely nothing for the main issue right now. The violent offender looking to cause harm with a weapon already has that weapon.
The proposed laws only work for the future. The solutions for right now aren't so obvious. And I dont know what solution you could have that would stop somebody that has a weapon today wanting to go out and kill people tomorow OTHER than a complete weapon ban which I can assure you will never work in the US. There would be war.
I also don't like the ommission of the fact that most mass shootings in the US happen in the innercity against a population that people just don't care about.
Chicago is like a war zone and it is NEVER REPORTED with any sort of sincerity or concern. But it isn't reported, because to be reported, gun violence has to happen to citizens that people have to care about.
This shit also pisses me off.

So I was reinstalling this old quad rail to my 10/22, when I realized most of the old screws were missing. I was sitting there staring at the thing, and glanced over at my lever rifle. A couple of black shoe laces later, and I have committed sacrilege.
My lever rifle is now "apocalypse tactical". I'll run it that way once, and then strip it back down tomorrow.

Just announced this morning. They're putting signs up in stores to alert customers of the policy change.
From what I've read, they're finishing out the contracts first. I don't when the last day will be, but I imagine it's already getting bought up. I imagine a lot of guys are hauling @$$ in there today.
Every round I ever bought from them was junk though. So I honestly don't care. But I believe they account for 20% of ammo sales. So how this will effect price is up in the air. I'd hope mom and pop stores don't start gouging.
That's where I bought all of my range ammo (never had any issues). However, they always carried limited supply of the .223/5.56 so I'm sure they're sold out, but, I'll give it a shot today.
The only thing I'm worried about is the price increase that the LGS's are going to hit us with.

Cabelas increased their ammo prices online about a year ago. I worry somewhat. Shooting shouldn't be a rich man's sport.

Yep. It's backdoor gun control and it's been coming for awhile. That's why I'm hoping to get into reloading next year. I wish they offered courses on it, maybe they do.
There are only 2 little shops in my area to get ammo, and one gouges ridiculously on everything. I ended buying my Gp100 from the other shop for $700 even, out the door with tax and the BGC. The store that gouged quoted me $875 before tax and everything. If I had bought it from them, it would've been a $1,000 gun.

Depends on what your needs are I reckon. I'm more of of a handgun guy, and with the prices likely to go up I see myself shooting less and possibly liquidating unused equipment to buy ammo for my defensive pistols. I used to have a persuader. 7+1. Slapped a Phoenix collapsible stock on it, then a raptor grip later.

When firing our semi auto shotgun I wish it had a red dot on it. After the second shot in quick succession you either re-asert your aim or shoot far above your intended target. Perhaps just a laser would help. (And I know shotguns are home defence)
I've never tried a semi shotgun with a red dot, but I'd think it would help with extended fast firing. It would help with auto obviously. Curious, has anyone shot a shotgun with these attachments, are they worthwhile?

1# Say that it's like Jurassic World situation right now, various of dinosaur species are out in the North American wilderness. Some are minding their own business and others are raiding crops and farm animals to survive. Some of them find it easy to hunt humans and make us in thier menu like the man eating tigers in India. Now perhaps you don't wanna just shoot first, perhaps just spook off a curious Baryonyx or a content Styracosaurus munchin on your garden you just want them to go on their way. However, if something like in the short film, Battle at Big Rock happened if an Allosaurus is crashing in on your trailer/house or a pack of velociraptors are getting into your neighbor's place, what kind of weapons would you personally be packin at the entrance of your door or car? (Pls no miniguns or rocket launchers though, thats like default cheap answers right there :laugh:)
2# A small hive of xenomorphs are messin around in your city/town, what kind of weapon would pack enough power to put them down before they can get in a good striking range at ya? (To be fair you gotta see them to take them down and we all know how that is ::) and even then you wouldn't stick around either but you gotta have something if you wanna escape alive)

I'll give it a shot.
#1. I live out in the country. The neighbors are too far away and there's cornfields and treelines between us all anyway, so "don't go into the long grass" is something I'd have to keep in mind. Basically, the neighbors are on their own in this situation.
For small to mid sized dinosaurs I'd prefer a bolt gun in .300 win mag with iron sights and a 44 mag revolver or a Glock 20 in 10mm on backup. I wouldn't mind a Marlin Trapper in 45/70 and a Ruger Redhawk Alaskan in 454, but the 454's have been known to cause crimp jump issues because of the recoil with the short barrel, so I'd probably go with the .44 model. 500 mag would probably be out of the question in this particular situation due to recoil, unless I had access to a Big Bore Armory .500 lever.
For T-Rex, I'd honest to God prefer a Barrett in 50 bmg for noggin shots. Made here in TN and it's also our official state rifle. If I couldn't have that, I'd at least want a good rifle in 338LM with iron sights and a long barrel 500 magnum revolver because getting eaten sucks and I can't have a Tek Bow.
#2. A brand new car with a full tank of gas so I could drive away. Otherwise I'd go smaller caliber than with the dinos. Most likely the highest end AR I could get my hands on, a Ruger GP100 revolver in 357 magnum with at least a 4 inch barrel, and a Smith and Wesson m&p40. If possible, I'd like to have the semis suppressed, and leave the magnum for absolute emergencies where ammo is low, when noise is not an issue, or when I need plenty of power while in tight spaces (crawling through debris, tunnels, etc). I'd also like to have lights on both the AR and M&P40.
If I could only have one gun for all scenarios, it'd be an old Browning B.A.R. with plenty of extra magazines and spare parts. Because 20 rounds of 30-06 coming out of a fully automatic weapon tends to get things done.

I'd only use one for Raptor. For T-Rex and I-Rex, or any large dinosaur it's basically pointless unless you'd manage to hit them in the eye or something.

357 can pretty much handle just about everything in my area. But for everywhere else, my philosophy would probably be "45 for interior work, 357 for social work, and 44 for the woods".
I've been shooting up all of my old ammo lately and I've just noticed my needs and tastes are changing. I'm thinking that (long term) 357 and a 1911 in .45 would be a more reasonable combo for me. Both are solid, non-polymer, unlikely to be included in an awb, more portable, easy to store and maintain, easy to conceal, and capable for personal defense both in and out of doors.

I needed something solid until then. The laws just changed here and we can now get our CCW online in about 90 minutes without having to go burn up 8 hours and a bunch of ammo. It's concealed only, but I wouldn't open carry anyway. For open carry, we still have to go shoot and take a class.

It's subjective. But if you want my honest opinion?
Open Carry if you want to be hassled by the cops all the time or to be easily removed by the bad guy before the fight even starts. But you look cool when you get shot from behind while buying a candy bar.
Concealed Carry if you want to be left alone by everybody and go about your day, but still be prepared to protect yourself from unlawful violence. But, you don't get to look like a cowboy or some kind of bad@$$ while you do.

Not really. But then again that's subjective. If you're walking through the wrong neighborhood, odds are you're in deep already. It's a problem that's 100% avoidable with good decision making. USA seems to be more open to debate, they've got safe areas and not so safe areas and who can deny someone the right to protect themselves and their loved ones in such a case?
I will however say that I find American gun "laws" kinda scary (at least in some states) not to mention baffling as well. While some states do require firearm licences and background checks they should all at least require some kind of formal and accredited firearm training as well. Anyone who owns a gun should know about things like proper trigger, loading and barrel discipline and when they are legally allowed to resort to lethal force.
Laws like distinguishing between open/concealed carry, vehicle carry, magazine limits etc just seem silly and petty to me.

If my wife would I would. I lived in Michigan when I was 18 and Texas when I was a bit younger. I have some family in Florida and Ohio and friends in Nebraska. My wife though she has never left the province ::)
My parents started private schools for churches and then moved when they were up and running. I have gypsied my way though all of Canada and USA lol. I will say this about Canada though. If you leave southern Ontario or British Columbia every one for the most part is a very responsible gun owner although what we can own and how we can transport and use it is extremely limited. I will try to find a link to the laws and edit this later but I'm pretty sure they changed the law so that in all of southern Ontario the. Largest round you can fire for hunting is .223 witch for deer I would use something bigger you don't see any moose or large game down in southern Ontario but still I would use .30.06 or 7.92×57mm Mauser but maybe that's overkill :-\

Was I that happy when I got it? Almost. I was a bit under the weather at the time, so I wasn't fully in the moment. Ironically, I wanted an Alaskan in .44 long before I wanted a Gp100. But the gp has such an immense reputation, plus it was more affordable and in a caliber I already used and trusted. So it became the object of my desire.
I prefer short barrel revolvers, so an Alaskan wouldn't bother me.

Not as far as I know. 4" barrels are (I believe) considered the preferred middle ground for carry revolvers. Just enough length to get good velocity from the cartridge, but still has a reasonable sight radius, is short enough to carry concealed, and can be drawn quickly in an emergency.
It also strikes a nice aesthetic balance with certain revolvers like the gp100. The gun looks well balanced and complete.
I agree that 4" is a nice happy medium, but why didn't you get a snub nose if that's what you prefer?

My grandfather has a semi-auto AK with a mounted scope. It also has a Dragunov stock on it. He let me shoot it sometime back and to my surprise, it has little kick to it. Has anyone ever shot something like that?
The only AK I ever shot was a Chinese AK chambered in .223 and we were just using the factory iron sights. Plus a cheap Taurus .41 magnum on backup. And that was a long time ago.

In all seriousness though, all the ammo would be gone. Nobody would be turning loose of it. But the highest number of a loaded caliber still left on earth post-event would probably belong to 9mm, 7.62 or .223/5.56.

I prefer a .45 ACP over 9mm. One shot should do it. But I think a 9mm is better for most people. You can carry more rounds and the recoil isn't as nasty.
Alot of people love the 9mil. Probably because it's cheaper, so you can shoot more and stock up quicker. That and it does shoot easily. I don't see many of them outside of law enforcement in my area. Although I'm sure there's a ton of them. But I see plenty of 1911's.
The Police here mostly used Glocks until 2017. The highway patrol chose the SIG P320 in 9mm. I don't think I've ever seen a Cop with a 1911.
I've seen plenty of civilians here carry 1911's. The cops carry m&p's, I believe.

It's also more accurate when firing off multiple rounds in quick succession. Something that is very critical in a life-death, self-defense situation with a quick moving target.
With an adapter and a break-action shotgun, you can fire just about anything, including 9mm.
If only Henry would implement the same barrel accessory program H&R had before they went under.

But I'll tell you what I tell everybody, take her somewhere and let her see what she is most comfortable with and shoots the best first. She might shoot a 9mm or .38 special just fine. Everybody is different.
No offense to 22lr, but rimfire is terribly prone to malfunctions. As much as I love the round, I've shot it enough (tens of thousands of rounds) to never want to rely on it for personal defense if I can help it. Even with quality CCI ammo, malfunctions are inevitable. Centerfire ammo tends to last longer and be more reliable, shot for shot. Five or six rounds of .38's or a handful of 9mm isn't exactly worse than 8-10 rounds of .22lr. Especially when you factor in good defensive hollow point ammunition like Speer Gold Dots.

When the lcr first came out, the .38's had a problem with flame cutting on the topstrap because the frame is made of aluminum. I believe they still are, and still have this problem.

The 357 version didn't have this problem to such an extent because its frame was made of steel. Considering a 357 can shoot 38's too, I'd go for the 357 LCR over the .38 any day of the week. You'd have the benefit of being able to shoot 2 different kinds of ammo, one of them being the 357 magnum.

My mom's more than comfortable to open-carry, plus she can do it without a permit in my area. We grew up with guns in this family and I can guarantee that she cannot handle anything like a 357. Mom's small statured and recoil sensitive but can handle a 9mm, I know because she's shot one. The LCR is a nice piece with only 8 shots but a bullet is a bullet. I hear the .22 magnum is a bit more reliable than the long rifle because the cartridges are made better, is that true? I had the idea of first getting her the .22 and maybe later upgrading to a 9mm. Or should I say screw it and get a 9mm straight off? She's never open-carried before nor had a personal firearm.
She doesn't have to load a .357 with magnum rounds. She can just load it with .38 special and that should be manageable for her.

Oh that's right. With all that info in mind I might just ignore .22 entirely. I've read online that the 357 lcr has a nice smooth trigger pull, much better than the .22's. I may actually consider buying the lcr in 357 but they tend to cost more.

I'm reasonably well stocked on ammo, food and water for an estimated 3 months. So even if I overestimated by 6 weeks, I still have 6 weeks of supplies. We just added 4 or 5 items to the cart each time we shopped since about 2006, with a few dry spells off and on. I have a lot of dry goods and some of the mountain house #10 cans. Baby formula is our big hole in our preps.
Got just enough lead to get through a shortage, as long as I don't shoot recreationally. I don't understand the panic buying right now, honestly. Especially for ammunition. Like what? Poop covered have-nots are gonna come for everybody else's toilet paper?
Agree on the getting alittle extra each time. A lot of household goods can be had for only a buck or two. Pick a couple different items every trip to the store, and get 3 instead of one.

Okay I've been waiting on this thread to happen forever now. Hypothetical scenario, shit has really, REALLY hit the fan. You can only bring one of these rifles with you to survive in the cold, harsh, post apocalyptic Canadian suburbs. Keep in mind that while the AR is definitely the easier to use and much more aesthetically pleasing rifle, most people who have guns in the area are shooting the 7.62x39 round the VZ58 fires. So which would you go with?

Well, if you want an abundance of ammo I guess you'd want the VZ. I assume the AR is .223? AR's can be just as reliable if not more in harsh environments as the AK platform. I'd go with whichever rifle you're more comfortable with. In my area I'd pick the AR because .223 is king and I'm more familiar with the M16.
If I were forced to choose between the 2, I'd probably go with the AR.

If I really wanted to I could drive an hour out and shoot in the woods outside city limits, but I couldn't shoot my AR or 1911 cause they're considered restricted. That's the stupid thing about canada, I could borrow my buddy's PTRD or his .50 and shoot it in the woods no problem, but the moment someone wants to shoot a handgun, even a .22, they're basically considered domestic terrorists. Some rifles and handguns are restricted, meaning they must be registered. I'm not Canadian but I remember hearing that restricted guns can only be fired at a gun range. I could be wrong though.

Oh boy where do I begin. To answer your question no they're not illegal, its just extremely limited with what you can do with it. For a more in depth look at our laws, open the spoiler, just be warned of the massive text wall and mild stupidity you're about to open.

So I guess I should start from the beginning. Before you can buy a gun you have to get a license, which is pretty easy to do but takes a while.
Firearms classifications
Non restricted: Most long guns that are either semi automatic or Manual action.
Restricted: A firearm that has a barrel less than 470mm, is semi automatic, and/or can be adapted to fire when reduced to a length of of less than 660mm. As well as any hangun. Also, whatever they want to deem restricted they can.
Prohibited: Handguns with a barrel less than 105mm, any handgun chambered in 25 or 32ACP, and any firearm where the barrel was sawed off by someone who is not a licensed gun smith. Firearms sold with a short barrel from the factory do not fall under this rule. Any firearm they deem prohibited.
Acquiring a license
To get a firearms license in Canada you have to take a firearms safety course, written and practical, only takes a day but the courses fill up ridiculously fast. Upon completing the practical (where you're only allowed 2 mistakes I believe) you take the written test where you have to score at least 84%. Once those are completed the course instructor mails of your results to your provincial Chief firearms officer, he stamps it and sends it back to you, usually takes about 2 weeks to get it back. Once you get it back you send that, a photo, a check, and this questionnaire package that you fill out (basic tombstone information, references, ex-wives) and you mail it to the RCMP where by law it has to wait for 28 days before its even looked at. After what should only be 2 months of waiting you finally get your license in the mail. Now keep in mind, above I said that it should only take a day to do the course and test, that's only if say you just wanted the non restricted. If you also want the restricted license you have to do another day, usually the same weekend.
Purchasing a firearm
So you finally have your gun license and just want to buy a gun and go shoot, easy process right? Well yes and no. If its a non restricted firearm, you go to your store of choice (not cabelas), pick out your gun, buy some ammo, and walk out with it all in the same day no problem what so ever. If its a restricted firearm, you pick out the one you want, put a down payment, and wait cause it has to be registered. The registration process varies from province to province, but should't take that long as long as they're not back logged at the RCMP. The shortest amount of time I've waited is 12 hours, the longest I've seen it take is 4 months.
Storing a firearm
So this is where it gets a little confusing and the lack of black and white laws come into effect. A non restricted firearm can be stored a number of ways. It can be in a safe or even in a closet. If its in a safe just throw it in. If it's outside of a lockable container, you have to find a way to make it inoperable, remove the bolt, throw a trigger lock on it, duct tape it shut, your choice. Ammo cannot be in the same room as it if its out in the open unless you lock your ammo in a container then it can be in the same room. Now if its in a safe, you don't need a locking device AND you can keep ammo in the same safe. Shit, you can even have a loaded magazine right next to it in the safe and that's perfectly legal. For a restricted firearm it has to be double locked, so a locked container with a trigger lock as well. Unless its in a safe, then you don't need the extra trigger lock AND you can have loaded magazines right next to it. If this all seems confusing that's okay, its like that on purpose.
Transporting
I'm gonna keep this one simple;
Non restricted - Just has to be unloaded, if you have to leave the car just throw a trigger lock on it and try to keep it concealed
Restricted - Gun has to be trigger locked in a locked case and concealed. Can't leave the car and must take the most direct route to the range.
Where can I shoot?
This is where things get really stupid. If its non restricted you can shoot it at any licensed range or private property so long as its outside city limits. You can also shoot on whats called crown land, essentially large parts of land the government owns that no development can be done on, the only rule is you have to be a few hundred meters from the highway and shooting away from it for obvious reasons. A restricted firearm can only be shot at licensed ranges, and most wont let you shoot there unless you're a member. If you're caught shooting a restricted firearm outside of a range your guns are confiscated, and you and anyone with you will face and be convicted with a criminal charge that's usually more costly and life altering than if you were to commit armed robbery. I'm not joking. So I can buy and own a semi automatic .50BMG and shoot it on buddy's property no problem, but if I then pull out a single shot .22LR handgun we would all be breaking the law.
Now if y'all remember up top I mentioned the prohibited class and what it is but never went into any details. Basically we had a massacre at a school in Quebec where some piece of shit went and shot a bunch of women with a Mini 14 (a gun that's still non restricted btw). After this happened the government went all out on the firearms community and banned a whole bunch of guns in the early 90's. What was the criteria for the ban? Well, and this isn't a joke either, they went and got a vanload of suburban soccer moms, gave them the big book of guns 1989, and told them to go nuts. They chose a whole bunch. Here's a short list of things I'm jealous I cant own;
-Any AK variant (for some reason the Dragunov falls under AK)
-Any FAL variant
-Any model of Steyr Aug
-The SPAS 12 (I know its hot garbage)
-Any variant of the HK MP5 (But I can own a CZ Scorpion)
The list goes on and on. The best part about it is there's guns in the full list that were extremely limited production prototypes like the HK G11, and for a while even Harrison Fords pistol from blade runner was on that list. Also I know I said that we cant own AK's because they're prohibited, but that's not entirely true. I can own one variant of AK, the Valmet M71. Why? Because back before the ban happened the Canadian government sold a large number the first nations populations up north to hunt with, realizing it wouldn't look good for them to go and confiscate firearms from the native population they let that one slide. Yet I can own a VZ58 or a type 81 no problem, but I can't have an AK. For the longest time the AR15 was non restricted, but they arbitrarily reclassified it to restricted overnight about 15 years ago.
One more stupid rule we have before I end this post/rant is our rules on magazine capacity. It is such a huge grey area it borderlines on insane.
-Handguns are limited to ten rounds only. Manual action firearms are not limited what so ever. Want a 100 round drum mag on your Lee Enfield? Have at her.
-.22's have no limits either unless its a ruger 10/22, then its only 10 because the RCMP shat their pants when you yankees came out with the ruger charger (which is considered a pistol) and arbitrarily banned anything over 10 rounds for the 10/22 overnight. No warning, no announcement, just a blurb on their website. There's still some people that don't know about this rule, and the RCMP has told its officers not to arrest or confiscate because they know they'd get shredded in court.
-Semi automatic rifle magazines are limited to 5 rounds. The only real exception is the M1 Garand that's still allowed to use 8. But what if your semi automatic takes pistol magazines? Then you can have 10 rounds. What if this magazine was made for the AR15 Pistols chambered in 5.56 they have in the states and has pistol stamped into the side? Well its a pistol mag, pin it to ten. It happens to fit in your AR15 rifle no problem even though it wasn't technically designed for the rifle? No big deal, blast away with your 10 rounds kid!
-Semi automatic shotguns are also a weird beast. Its a semi auto so it has to be limited to 5 right? Yes and no. Its limited to 5 for the longest shell it can take. You have a 3-1/2" semi automatic goose gun? Go ahead and shove 12 of the federal shorty's in their, sure its more than 5 but those aren't 3-1/2" shells so you're A-OK.
If it seems like I'm frustrated its because I am. If any of you have any questions I'm more than happy to try my best and answer. One last thing I forgot to mention, just because you finally got to pick up your handgun, doesn't mean you can shoot it right away, you have to wait for the registration certificate to come in and it has to stay with the gun at all times, usually arrives 2 weeks after its been registered to you.

Basically our self defense laws are guilty until proven innocent. If you use a gun to defend yourself, you lose all your guns while you're dragged through the legal process, usually over the course of a few years. Not only will you be charged with murder, you will also have every unsafe storage law thrown at you too. The only way to prove your innocence is by proving that;
A: There was an immediate threat to your life
B: You used the proper level of self defense (Basically if he has a gun, you can use a gun. If he has a bat, he better have been bludgeoning your head in)
C: You were following all the necessary storage laws.
That last one is the biggest f**karound because they'll literally send an investigator to your house to lie in your bed, jump out of it to your storage, get the safe open and load the gun. If he deems you couldn't have possibly been able to do that in the amount of time you said you had they'll ding you for it. After losing a shit ton of money to the legal system you may get your guns back if you beat the case. Right now we have a big problem in our Western provinces where police response times are about 35 minutes, a lot of home owners have taken it upon themselves to defend their lives and property and have faced the full force of the law for being the victim. Luckily many have beaten their cases after a minimum of 5 years, but the financial damage is substantial. Right now there's one guy in Alberta who beat the case, but the family of the home invader he killed appealed it and now he has to start the whole process again.
Well that sucks.

I'm probably a little bias because I work for a supplier, but I can vouch for new production Marlins. Dont get me wrong, they're nowhere near the rifles from 40 years ago but they're leaps ahead of the shit they were cranking out of 2001-2017

I love shotguns. The first gun I ever shot was a 16 gauge, I must've been 8 or 9.
I went through a tactical shotgun phase and that was it. I may get back into it with the mossberg nightstick, but I don't know.
Never shot a 16 gauge. Learned on a 20, ran a 12 until I sold it. Is it hard to find shells for a 16?
Dont know about down south but up here you can find ot anywhere, but its only really popular on the east coast, more common than 20 gauge. My first shotgun was a 12 gauge 1897 winchester in trench configuration
12, 20 and .410 is about all I've ever seen on the shelves around here.
I have a 1925 Winchester 20 gauge pump. It's slick.
Everything else I own are cheaper guns.
I have a pre 1906 champion 12 gauge single shot that fed my grandfather and his family in 1930-1940s West Virginia. Yes he was a coal miner if you're familiar with WV lol
I have a 28 gauge H&R, and an old Essex 12 gauge side by side.
My first gun was a Baikal 12 gauge single that shoots an excellent patter. It's actually a nice looking gun for being from a range of cheap Russian guns. Remington imported them and called them Spartans after some slight changes.
To break it down there is a lever on the bottom, behind the trigger. I would hate to ever have a loose grip on that gun when I pull the trigger.

In one fell swoop, hundreds of lively hoods and billions of dollars in revenue towards the economy were wiped out. To all my friends down south, be alert, this is what any sort of gun control eventually leads to.

I think some States allow you to shoot and own guns even if you're not a Citizen.
Oh it gets better, in the Liberals infinite stupidity they banned any firearm that has a bore diameter larger than 20mm. Okay, you might say, 20mm/50 BMG rifles are somewhat excessive so I get it (Still a disgusting overreach of power). But here's the thing, bore diameter laws dont take things like muzzle breaks or chokes into account in Canada, so any 12 gauge shotgun that has a choked barrel is now a prohibited firearm, same with all muzzle loaders. Apparently the people writing up the legislation didn't take this into account, and now all the Fudds that were on their side are freaking out too.

I've shot an AR15 300 Blackout, really nice with a Romeo5; also the 5.56 is heavier but I do like distance.
Get a 5.56 and a barrel to support the 300 and just swap it out when you want to switch it up.
Might have to MC, depending on ammo availability also.

As someone that works in the industry I'll tell you to buy now and in bulk, the shortage is gonna hit hard soon. It's not that there's a brass and lead shortage, that's bullshit, its that the demand is blowing production out of the water. Our rep at Hornady told us that by November their warehouse will probably be empty
5.56 and 9mm are gone here. Really any common seni-auto pistol caliber is non-existent. 7.62x39 is plentiful though. Fortunately, I can make use of that.
I went to 4 stores, and there were not any Remington 870s or Mossberg 500s or 590s.
I waited a week and got the only 1 a local store got in their shipment.
5.56, 9mm and 300 blackout all gone here too. We have a local guy who reloads and he is down to selling packs of 20 at a time.
I have ammo now. One box. Better than nothing.

Damn, I guess I was right to invest in a reloading kit this winter. I'll try to gather as much ammo as possible before the shortage hits so that I'll have a bigger reserve of ready rounds/future brass donors, but I'm not going to be completely lost when the shelves will dry up.
If you're in the US you wont have to worry as much, you guys get priority on all ammunition and firearms, here in canada we get the scraps. You still have time

Oh yeah, my mom said that it feels like she's carrying a brick in her purse. She has a holster but doesn't use it for that reason. It still makes for a nice defense weapon against coyotes looking to snack on our chickens.

Ammo prices are finally starting to drop down here, still an expensive trip to the range though. Glad I kept my S&W 357 Magnum, ammo for it is much easier to find than 9mm.

So either the 608 didn't pass or Taurus never bothered submitting it. They've had many other handguns tested and certified, so I kinda doubt it's the latter.

Smith was the only other one I knew of making an 8 shot 357 at the time, until ruger finally came out with the 8 shot Redhawk.
I have a model 65. Bought it new in 2008. Taurus' matte finish looks awful in person. I polished it with some Mothers, swapped the factory grips out with some hogues and shot the fire out of it. The trigger is absolute glass now. Strange thing is it's actually heavier than the gp100.

It's a 6 shot. Mines the model 65. The model 66 is the 7 shot. It's been nothing but reliable.

I shot my Carcano for the first time since I bought it 5 years ago on Sunday, I'm very surprised with how well it shoots. It did hurt to shoot Norma Alaska at paper but I've had the ammo forever now

Visited one of my LGS's today. Here's the inventory report from the first of two stores in my area:

Accessories: 4 rifle slings

Firearms: 6 bolt action rifles (about 4 of them were SAVAGE brand and I didnt get a look at the caliburs), 2 cheap 12 gauge shotguns (low capacity/tactical) 3 Ruger LCR revolvers in 22lr (two marked sold). 2 heritage Rough Rider 22 calibur single action revolvers, one Charter Arms 9mm revolver, and a Bond Arms derringer chambered in .410 and 45 Colt.

Is there really a decrease in the supply or is the demand just to high to keep up? There's always a spike after a mass-shooting, isn't there?
It's a multitude of factors imo.
1. You got a democrat in the White House and the senate is split, which causes panic on the right where you see alot of gun ownership.
2. We're fresh off an election, which usually causes everybody to freak out. Plus the constant coverage of the riots during the summer made people feel uneasy.
3. There's millions of new gun owners.
4. The pandemic has no doubt affected manufacturing capacity for guns and ammo. Limited number of factory employees and cost of and availability of components.
5. Shootings and talk of legislation. Although panic buying was kind of a problem before the shootings.
I'd say it's mostly to do with the pandemic, new gun owners and recent election results. It will pass, although this is a much different situation than 2013 given the pandemic. We're looking at a higher demand, and I know the manufacturers are going all out but supply is what it is.

There is more to do though. The new law only allows individuals ages 21 and older to carry handguns without a permit. 18 -20 can carry only if currently serving in the military.
They're now wanting to get something done for long guns as well, which would give us true "constitutional" carry.
Don't take this the wrong way, buy why would you want to open carry a long gun? I have nothing against it, in fact I'd love to have it up here, but in the situation that you need a gun, wouldn't having one visible make you a priority target for the bad guy?

Ridiculously overpriced ammo and long lines. The only good thing about the gun show was that the guns were all great prices.
That's good news. The ammo situation just is what it is. But I'm hoping the lack of affordable ammo will keep gun prices under control. Hard to sell an overpriced gun you can't find ammo for.

Guns n Ammo report:
Visited both shops in my area this time.
Shop 1: Still had the same two boxes of 480 Ruger. There was no other ammo. Two handguns, both single action 22 revolvers. One was a Heritage, the other was a brand I'm not familiar with. As for long guns, 7 or 8 cheap rifles and shotguns. Couple of cheap scopes and some cleaning supplies.
Shop 2: 2 boxes of 7mm ammo, 6 or 8 boxes of various non-mainstream caliburs and 3 boxes of 20 gauge birdshot. As for the guns, 2 police trade-in glock 9mm's. One used glock 10mm long-slide. An unknown lower receiver, 2 ruger 10/22's, and 20 misc non-tactical shotguns. Mostly foreign brands like stoeger. Lots of holsters, and 2 ruger bx25 mags.
I was sorely tempted to grab one of the bx25's, but I already have a few so I left em for somebody that needs em more than I do.
My co-worker reports that he's been scalping his ammo hoard for more than triple the price, in some cases. He's really proud of himself too.
He talks too much. He's probably sold one box..

At this point, I think there's just too many people that have a vested interest in keeping the community panicked and paying ridiculous prices for everything that's not nailed down. And there's too many @$$holes buying what they don't need, just to make a buck.
Somewhere around there is someone who keeps snapping up a disproportionate amount of .357.
I don't think much of anything is making it into the county. Guns or ammo.

Vortex UH-1 holographic sight. It was either that or an EOtech, which I like, but those have issues with sight drift due to the cold weather up here. It's honestly a great sight, had it on my savage MSR before and it worked beautifully
Youtube videos of guys saying the ammo shortage is ending because they finally found a few boxes of ammo, and then two minutes later they also mention that they paid 3 to 4 times the regular price for everything.

There's a shooting range in Vegas that has the mini available to shoot 100 rounds for $245.
They often slow the RPM/ rounds per minute on mini guns for public use/exhibition so it is not using all that ammo in a blink. At that point, why not just shoot a standard machine gun and save money?

In a lot of 80's/90's media, the old-fashioned, veteran cop will use a revolver (which used to be a very common service weapon in many parts of the states) while the young hot-shot will use a semi-auto to show that he's up with the latest. Or at least this is what I've been lead to believe.

Is there any evidece that a revolver tends to be more accurate than a magazine fed pistol or vice or versa?
Depends on make and model, date of manufacture, and who's using it. I don't personally know of any studies that were done (if someone does please chime in) but years of shooting have shown me that people that use revolvers tend to be more precise and patient with their shooting

Perhaps that patience derives from an awareness of you only have six or eight shots till empty and reloading in full is longer than a magazine fed pistol?

Is a magazine behind a trigger better or worse than one in front of a trigger?
Bullpup designs have their pros and cons. Longer barrels in a shorter overall package and great for crewmen, very maneuverable in close quarters. Generally bad ergonomics all around, subpar triggers, and more complicated takedowns can make field stripping a pain

Well I mean every now and then Canada will once in a while take something American and make it better.
Like M3 Lee into Ram Mk. II or F-86 Sabre into CL-13 Sabre (which the new Luftwaffe certainly liked).
Even the Americans thought the Ram was a good tank... at the time, it was certainly superior to the Lee (which is what they were going for, like come on you gotta have a main turret) and even still comparable to the M4 Sherman but the Sherman won out as it was easier to mass produce and relatively cheaper, plus the African campaign revealed the flaws of British tank doctrine which the Ram cruiser tank was built under, one notable con being that the Ram had better armour piercing with it's British 6 pounder gun but poorer high explosive and you're going to encounter infantry more than tanks, the Sherman on the other hand had a nice dual purpose 75mm gun with good HE and "good enough at the time" armour piercing, especially when at the time Panzer III's and IV's and Stugs are the most common armour.
But the Ram still saw service not only for training but as variants from command vehicles to armour recovery vehicles and most notably the Kangaroo personal carriers, the most successful variant that was used widely by British and Commonwealth forces and had a positive impact in reducing manpower losses.

Box of 125 - $135
20 round boxes ranged from $21 - $25.
The range would have to wait another day.
