Good news: she's a big part of the saga, and shouldn't be swept aside even though some people found her convictions annoying.
Bad news: if they're rewriting this film while they're filming it, after all these years of writing, we're in big trouble.

True, but it can be argued that Alien3 (which I love) suffered a dissimilar fate.
They won't be rewriting it. She's been in Sydney for weeks. This reveal - if it's true - was bound to happen sooner or later.
I love Noomi as an actor but felt she was mis-cast in the role of Shaw. I don't feel that she brought any of her acting strengths we've seen her perform elsewhere, particularly 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo'; especially given the material she had to work with in 'Prometheus'.
Nonetheless, I'm glad we will see her return in her role to lend some much needed continuity between 'Prometheus' and 'ALIEN: Covenant'. So glad to hear this News overall. I don't think it will surprise anyone that she's appearing (reprising) as a major role for the new movie.

Ya. That ceasarean birth was something else, huh. Too bad if that scene got messed up.
Mind you, I haven't seen 'Prometheus' for a while. I'm well overdue for another viewing of the movie. I bet the same things will bother me when I do get to watch it... The captain casually standing at his dais without any safety restraints while the ship lands... The idiot biologist who wants to play with space snakes just to impress the equally idiot geologist who goes to another planet and fails to pick up a single rock... The exploding head that explodes because, well, it explodes... The complete breach of any safety measures by removal of protective helmets simply because oxygen has been detected... Shaw's occasional smugness, particularly her "Well, who made them, Smart ass?" comments and attitude... Dumb stuff like that which could have easily been fixed in the script did kind of spoil the movie for me. Most of the rest of the movie and the terrific questions it raises totally worked for me. Unfortunately, 'Prometheus' was uneven.
I'm happy to see Noomi return though. Her reprisal of Shaw will provide some much needed connectivity to both movies. I'm hoping for a meaner, leaner Shaw this time around. After all, she's heading to an Alien world with so much loss behind her. Her character development will probably be the most important aspect of the movie considering what she has already endured. I'm very interested in seeing how that pans out in this new movie. I'm expecting a very different Shaw this time around.

Watched Prometheus (again) yesterday and must admit that surgery scene is brilliant. Noomi is great in it. I liked Shaw as a character - found her interesting (glad her annoying boyfriend got fried mind).

Yet, in his earlier interview Ridley ranted there were going to be more than one David's rendition and Prometheus survivors were parting to go separate ways. So, probably, Noomi's character will arrive to Paradise/Engineers'e planet square at the same moment, as all the hell gets loose with Covenant crew and ex-Prometheus David?

Great scene, unbeatable in its intensity over all the movie! Well-directed, masterly shot and marvellously edited. Scott revealed there were only three of them - he, DoP and Noomi - while filming it.
Other than that, Shaw looked rather plain to me, comparing to Vickers... I wish there was a way to bring back Theron.

In an interview prior to 'Prometheus' release regarding the presence of any androids in the movie, Scott is on record stating "There may be
two." Mind you, Scott has been known to say a lot of things that didn't exactly pan out.
Either way, Vickers may yet re-appear at some point in the upcoming trilogy. I don't know what Theron is working on at the moment. Maybe she's in Sydney right now... Even if she isn't, Android Vickers may yet make an appearance in one of the upcoming movies...
At this stage, anything can happen and even official word from Fox should be treated as open ended right now...

Deadline are generally on point when it comes to this kind of news. I think they're where the majority of the casting news for Covenant came from.
Can't say I was a massive fan of the character but I think I would have been more annoyed if she was ignored wholesale and there was no closure to her. I'm really curious to see what they come up with!

As long as they don't start doing "year of our lord" religious BS I'll be fine. Her character was annoying for me, I mean she wasn't the worst but honestly apart from David was there even one fully fleshed out decent character in the whole film?
I hope they limit her role, I don't want to see her go flying around in engineer ships or using their technology etc.
I think we're all confused as to what her capacity might be, especially when the synopsis states David is "the sole inhabitant" of the planet the Covenant is shuttling too. Surely she can't be a main player with "weeks worth of scenes". Maybe she'll play a role similar to that of Matt Damon's part in Interstellar. I just hope it's not a significant part, she was pretty duff in Prometheus and I think any way this film can free itself of the shackles of Prometheus, the better.
God what disappointing news. Some people are acting like it was as painful as losing Hicks from Alien 3. If we saw bloody savaged remnants of her weyland bodysuit that would have been sufficient.

It's the kind of thing you'd guarantee would be in the trailers. I think that it's likely we'll be mainly seeing her interact with the old David. Judging from all the recent photos of him, not sporting the blond hair, makes me think they haven't filmed Prometheus' David just yet and with filming coming to an end in the next month or so I think it's likely that's the case.
Nah. She's going to be in the last five minutes of the film as the lone survivor of the Covenant; Rips mom, reunites her with David08's severed head. It's going to be totally awkward.
Maybe she is filming flashbacks.
Because when she jumped in the engineers ship and flew away, she made a big gap between the Prometheus incident rock (i forgot the LV number)
And to catch up with that, the Covenant ship must be years away imo.
But im very curious on what they are gonna portrait.

I'm glad that she is included in this film -- regardless of official capacity.It would not have sat well with myself, and I am sure with others, had she been merely 'killed off screen'. Her character needs a proper send off (if they go that route) or inclusion ala Skywalker in TFA (if they choose to have her play a much larger role later on). I can't help but wonder just how David is going to get his head back on and what she, if anything, has to do with it (I can't imagine it going any other way to be honest unless David is somehow able to command his body to move -- which sounds ludicrous just as I type this). I am wondering if the Prometheus David is going to go the route that the Fire and Stone novels did (at least the Prometheus ones) with the synthetic (his name eludes me) and have him absorb the goo and have him transform into... IDK... a creature of some sort (I'm thinking an Alien type creature because of the whole "bio-mechanics" thing).
Noomi's character and her acting were one of the many reasons why I love Prometheus, so this makes me incredibly happy. :D

Oh definitely. I know that several of the folk working on Prometheus used to frequent here when that was in production. It's why we got C&Ded so fast with the leaked pictures last time around. I can't attest to that now but I know some of the concept artists are very aware of us.
That the Character of Shaw is in it, that's OK (as opposed to chopping and changing characters left right and center so there's no continuity between franchise films). But I expect Noomi to really bring more to the role this time around - by default, and also additionally due to her being hardened by the events of Prometheus. We've seen more emotional responses and excitement from REAL scientists during the Pluto/Philae missions than we have from Prometheus' scientific crew.
For me, Shaw's off-screen assumed pushiness/ambition to get to where she was - onboard the Prometheus - didn't seem to match with the often times wallflower persona. Even if she was playing the straight man cool/clinical scientist a la Dana Scully with a crisis of faith vs science twist, Gillian Anderson "gave" more presence on-screen in her debut scenes . And that was for a TV show, not the big screen.
Anyway, I wonder what her role will be. I really hope its written well this time.

I blame that on bad writing and Ridley Scott, not Rapace. One of the things that made Alien great was that its technology made sense to the audience. Nothing was really unbelievable in that film (from the Nostromo to the space suits to the weaponry). In Prometheus we were asked to suspend our disbelief for a lot things. That medical machine was a pretty significant plot point in the film so it should have been explained better.
I think Rapace did well given the limitations of the dialogue that was written for her character in Prometheus.

That about sums it up for me. Reading this site now, one should consider as one big spoiler warning. But of course us hard core fans will keep reading, knowing full well that we will spoil our dinner. Can't blame the site for that.
I could say this website has potentially ruined my movie-going experience as far as the alien franchise, but I suppose it's just the way the world is going. Knowing the entire movie before it comes out, showing the entire movie in the trailer, etc. And that's fine, those are things the viewer can control. Coming to a beloved AvP site, and seeing spoilers posted on the front page? I guess it's my choice not to come here also.
I'd ask for some consideration on your part, but I'm guessing an overwhelming amount of fans that come here probably want to know it all within seconds of entering a website, which is fun too because they can discuss it. But I don't think you need to blatantly whip it all out there. They've already come to the site.

The Corporal and Darkness have already made provision for hiding potentially spoilery news on AVPG's social media accounts as well as on the news feed on the top of this page. They are hardly "blatantly whipping it out there" anymore.

I confess I find that part a bit backward-thinking. The people who don't want to be spoiled are certainly not following this site on social media (at least I ain't). They are, however, more likely to drop in to the site to see what's new.
But I know the mods' minds are made up on that point; just wanted to say my bit.

This site has and always will be reporting on spoilers and all relevant information. In our experience, the majority of people who come directly here are the more hardcore fans who are after that information. Because of the more casual fans who follow on social media, we've implemented vaguer titles and generic pictures on there (much to my dismay as they sound disgustingly clickbaity - Familiar Actor To Return to Alien: Covenant - that kinda of thing). The news box on the top right of the forum also uses those vaguer titles due to complaints so you can come directly in if you still want to join in the discussions.
That's all the provisions we'll be taking though.
Understood. I'm just genuinely surprised that the casual fans prefer following you on social media rather than visiting the site. I'd have thought it would be the exact opposite. When I want to 'casually' learn about something, I just go search it out, rather than getting myself subscribed to what could potentially be an endless stream of spam about that one thing that I was casually curious about one day.
Anyway, I'm just surprised. People are funny. :)
Facebook is taking over. That is the internet for a lot of people. The source of their everything. It's so easy to just click Like on a page. I didn't really get it myself but that seems to be the case.

The entire thumbs up and down thing is utter nonsense. Facebook isn't going to last much longer but while it's here it is f**king everything up. :P Facebook will be long remember as the fad that destroyed generations. Or so our google overlords will continuously remind us of.
I actually think Facebook is only the beginning. The invasion and more accurately the capitulation of privacy will only get worse..

She's in Covenant a little bit, but she's not a main cast member. A cameo.
Regardless of what her role ends up being I don't see why she would give much of answer beyond what was given.
