Title: The Confession Thread
Post by: TheSailingRabbit on Jan 17, 2019, 09:43:10 PM
What are some things you haven't done that you probably feel like you should do? How about broken promises? Procrastinating something? Confess it here, and get it off your chest (nothing sexual, please).

Here are some of mine:

- I haven't seen The Terminator, Terminator 2, Jaws, Twister, Titanic, Jurassic Park, The Thing, any Star Trek movies, any Marvel or DC movies (I did see part of Batman vs. Superman a few years ago when I went to a leadership camp with my JROTC group, but I wasn't paying any attention to it), the original Halloween or Nightmare on Elm Street, and there are a handful of Disney and Pixar movies I have yet to see.

- I haven't played any Nintendo games, nor have I played a main series Pokémon game.

- If given the choice, I would rather play a multiplayer round of Colonial Marines than Isolation.

What are the reasons you didn't see those movies?
Never cared for them, better things to do,...?

Just wasn't exposed to it at a young age. Didn't get interested until very recently.

That's pretty normal.
And sometimes it's better to wait. I saw 2001: A Space Odissey for the first time last year.
If I watched it earlier just because it's considered a classic, even though I had no interest in the subject matter, I wouldn't have had that great first time viewing experience.
Bit like waiting until you have developed a decent appetite, so you can enjoy something more.

Me too. I was shocked beyond measure when I heard some of the music from Aliens playing in a movie that was made in 1968.

Don't give a shit about;
Rocky
Back to the Future
Ghostbusters
Slashers
Stephen King
Or
Steven Spielberg
Jurrassic Park's good,
but how family orientated his work is...
It's sickening sometimes, not for me.

Things in my backlog:
Terry Pratchett's Discworld Series
The Witcher Wild Hunt
Nier Automata
The Missing: JJ Macfield
& The Island Of Memories
SAGA
BONE
Paper Girls
&
(Image Comics) lol
Redlands

Alejandro Jodorowsky:
The Incal & The Metabarons

...Film...
Loads.
...Books...
Loads.

Film wise? I'm not certain. I think I've seen many of the "considered greats" across every genre. The Godfather, 2001, Psycho, Jaws, Citizen Cane, Gone with the  Wind, E.T., The Good the Bad and the Ugly, King Kong (1933), It's a Wonderful Life, On the Waterfront, etc. etc. I'm probably lacking the most in the "war genre" to be honest. Like The Bridge on the River Kwai and the like, I still haven't seen.

By the way, I would really recommend watching (to you and Huggsy)  2010: The Year We Make Contact as well. It's a straight scifi film, light years different from the artful approach in Stanley Kubrick's first film, but very, very well made. And very compelling.  And it stars the late, great Roy Scheider, who gives in my opinion, his best performance next to Jaws. Being a scifi fan, you won't regret it!

Not a fan but I like a couple of movies inspired by his works like Stand By Me. But I'd guess that's more of male oriented movie.

I haven't seen Jurassic Park or The Thing
I have never played Dark Souls
I have the first two Witcher games but have never played them
I have never owned a Nintendo device
I have only ever owned a PSP
I bought Halo 5's legendary edition
I have not made it to the Alien yet in Alien Isolation
I once made a xenomorph recolor with MS Paint

During my travels I've noticed viewers not keen on 2001's artistic and psychedelic styles were thrilled with 2010 for it's straight-forward Alien-like approach.

Other people, who fell absolutely in love with 2001's artistry, i found ended up disappointed for 2010's straight-forward Alien-like approach.

It might end up where you fall on the original.

Heard of them? They're an excellent Italian (western) comedy duo. They're dubbed most of the time but not in an annoying way.
They have lots of movies, not all good but all have a unique charm to them.

I'd start with They Call Me Trinity. Then Watch Out We're Mad, Go For It, Double Trouble or Crime Busters.

What madness is this?  :o You do not watch trailers? How do you develop your desire to see a movie?

There's only so much that can be ascertained through a synopsis, stills, posters or past work to get a feel for actor chemistry, performances, tone, directorial style, production quality, etc.to guage personal appeal towards a particular unknown film (imo).

There's only so much that can be ascertained through a synopsis, stills, posters or past work to get a feel for actor chemistry, performances, tone, directorial style, production quality, etc.to guage personal appeal towards a particular unknown film (imo).

Synopsis and stills are all I need. And the names of the writer, director and studio.
If there's enough to catch my interest, I'll give the movie a chance.

Example:
Bone Tomahawk, solid movie. I watched it because of Kurt Russell + western + R-Rating. That's enough for me.
Because of Bone Tomahawk, I saw Brawl In Cell Block 99, which was great. Same writer/director + Vince Vaugh and Don Johnson + prison + R-Rating.
Because of those two, I'm looking forward to his next one: Dragged Across Concrete. Same writer/director + Vince Vaugh and Mel Gibson + corrupt cops + R-Rating.

If I'm gonna watch a movie for sure, why would I ruin it by watching bits before? It degrades the viewing experience.
I'd already know some cool action scenes or funny bits. I'd know certain stuff will still come up because they showed it in the trailer.
And more often than not, trailers give a false impression and/or spoils things.

I like to be surprised. I admit it's not always good, but sometimes it's just great and it makes it all worth.

Not really confessing, but...

I can't stand Star Wars. Everything about it and the obnoxious religious fans suck.
Can't stand Disney.
Hate that there's no decent alternative to Facebook.
Loathe K-Pop, just their images are enough to induce industrial strength vomiting and defecation.
Liberals, Democrats, Socialists, anti-gun people can kiss my butt.
Illegal aliens. (Enter the country legally, do things the correct way, I have no problem with that.)
antifa should be outlawed, same with all hate groups (no, I won't capitalize antifa, they're not worthy).
I liked Predator 2, hated ShaMe Black's The Predator.
The Terminator is best, T2 was the start of the downfall of the Terminator franchise, with the non-killing, and the humor.
I like Aliens better than Alien.
All AvP movies sucked.

I wish I was a more social person.

Hey man, you help run a Social Network, you know rad folks and passionate nerds all around the planet. And dig this, your recordings are now committed to the voids of time and space, so you're going to still be making friends even after your meat body is dead and gone. It's a thought that gives one pause. But the hive is out here, lurking in the shadows.

Sometimes when I'm really bored, and I mean really really bored, I make myself sneeze just for funzies. Maybe once a month, if that. I mean, it clears out boogers too, so there's that.

I also have an intense fear of the ocean. Or rather, sharks. I love the ocean, I just don't to want to die in it. I am convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that if I were to set one single solitary foot of mine upon the sea, that I shall be eaten instantly. It doesn't matter if it's in the arctic, I don't care how cold the water is. If it's not pool water and it's more than 2 feet deep, they're in there, and they'll kill me.

I honestly envy people who have some faith at times.

Seems like it could be very comforting. To imagine everything is as it should be according to some divine plan, everybody gets what he deserves in the next life and the whole lot.

Much faith has been distorted. As a person of faith, I lay most of the blame on organized religion, for many reasons.

I have my relationship with God. I don't force my beliefs onto anyone. I don't expect him to do everything for me, I expect him to be God, and I believe he expects me to be a man. I take responsibility for the choices I make, and I play the cards I'm dealt.

Most of all, one thing is for certain. We all agree that we're going to live and die a physical death together on this planet. We may as well love each other while it's our turn on stage.

I'm an atheist myself, but I've made a habit of advising people to not let religion get in the way of their faith.  Don't let some slick TV preacher or even your local church be your gatekeeper against God.  That message seems to resonate with them.

Meh! It's not like religion is very respectful with other beliefs, the space of people or minorities  :P I am in favor of secularism (and against fundamentalism): believe in whatever you want, but keep religion away from politics and government. The moral values and laws of a modern society don't have to depend on any religion or belief system. It is not fair for those who are not Judeo Christians or who are atheists to be controlled by precepts in which they don't believe or agree.

My mother was very religious. When she was told she had a only a few weeks to live, she was almost joyous about it, comforted that she was going to a better place. She was so at peace with it, she designed the paper programs handed out during her funeral.

So I am too in awe, and envious, of the comfort she felt in death.

One one hand I'm disgusted by Religion,
on the other hand;

"End? No, the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it."

I'm at the point where despite having pentagram tattoos, singing in a black metal band and taking a pretty dim view of 99.9% of religion... I just can't be bothered arguing* either. Believe whatever you want, just don't involve me, and I'll do the same.

*(Discussion is fine, but it's one of those topics that tends to get heated and become an argument most of the time)

What's the 0.1%?

Discordians, people who write Jedi on their census, etc The smart ass ones that exist via technicality rather than earnest belief.

Not to say that religion doesn't have some pretty hefty benefits - without even going into metaphysics, observance of rituals (ie; holy days, sacraments etc) is good for psychological health, as is a sense of community and camaraderie. I'm not claiming it's all bad.

Although I might claim there's less complicated ways to get the same result, and the complexities are where the trouble can easily start.

Huh, not much of a church guy myself. I suppose there isn't a priest there 24/7, if one is there, he will probably have to listen to you from what I heard. Doesn't matter what you say.

I just feel the need to write this down somewhere and I can't think of a better place to do it.

So, podcasts are a very big reason why I'm still into Alien and Predator franchises. I listen to AvPGalaxy, Perfect Organism and Yutani podcasts. Unfortunately, as of late I really struggle to listen to what PO guys put out. It started with their episode-review of Memory: The Origins of Alien (which AvPG guys did too and were much more kind to it). They just trashed the documentary. Admittedly, I haven't watched it myself yet but just the way they kept criticizing it while saying that THEY would do the job so much better (especially Jaime because of his relation to industry and the fact he made one f**king documentary himself some time ago so he KNOWS HOW TO DO DA MOVIE) irritated the shit out of me. I've never come back to that episode.

And from there I think started a new trend with the show. They keep saying every episode to follow how much of a HARDCORE fans they're, how they know what to do in the next Alien movie and how moviemakers should not dissapoint them otherwise they just quit the franchise (what a threat, huh?). They pushed that angle "we're fans, we're fans" so hard that it became more about "we're fans and how much of importance that is" rather than about the Alien franchise itself. They think that they're "voice of community" and  that bunch of them is enough to represent all of the fandom. It seems to me that they really believe that so much depends on them, that success of next Alien movie depends solely on whether THEY AKA HARDCORE FANS go see it or not.

I want also to mention specifically all that Alien: Survival deal: Jaime brought some script writer he knows to show and the whole episode on that was just about how prequels damaged the franchise and how they KNOW WHAT TO DO TO FIX IT. I couldn't even make myself to listen it to the end, let alone revisit it

And the show just keeps on repeating itself. "Prometheus was bad, dialogue was insufferable, I lost my faith in Ridley, characters are important, Resurrection is irredeemable garbage, Ripley is my Space Mom, these movies being with me for as long as I can remember etc." These are probably right things to say but when they're repeated so many f**king times it loses all its importance and just becomes boring. Main host just refuses to move on from his disappointment with prequels and just ugh ... And the way he says from the third perspective "Here we go again, he's gonna bash prequels" like that's not exactly what he's gonna do. For comparision, I know that Hicks f**king hates The Predator but he's smart enough to rather not talk about it at all than constantly shit on it and annoy people who enjoyed the movie

Keep in mind, I'm not saying all the stuff they're doing is bad. I enjoyed some of the recent episodes, for instance, about Alien 3 score or discussion about Ripley or that commentary track they did for AVP 2004. I believe they're still very passionate about the material. And I most definitely thankful for good memories they gave me. But, as of late I become less and less excited about their stuff and appreciate more and more what Hicks, RidgeTop, Xenomorphine, HuDaFuk and other members of AvPG are doing with their podcast show

I freaking love Herk Mondo #lovelovelove

I know he embodies what many people don't like (myself included) - Aliens being portrayed as bugs that you can stomp on. But his stories are just so over the top and ridiculous that I can't take them seriously. Whoever wrote these stories (I'm lazy to check, sorry) clearly was taking piss out the concept of "ALIENS !!! Shoot 'em with big guns !!!"

I mean, just look at these covers ! How can anyone think these are "serious" stories ? Second one looks like something from Archie btw

I usually don't mind the music myself (depends what we're talking about on a case by case basis really) but even I'll skip it after the first couple times especially on a binge viewing because I just want to cut to the chase/save a little extra time.

I was raped when I was fifteen years of age, and I have always been ashamed, and disgusted with myself, but the most awful part? Not even the act but the not beimg believed after it happened, the insistence that I must have wanted it, that it could not have happened like I said so.

But their friends all believed them, and I had the problem for making an issue of it so they said, I just wanted them back or something apparently.

Something happened recently that made me realize I have not dealt with that trauma, so maybe saying this here will help lift that from my mind, that yes it happened to me, and no it does not get to define who I am.

I'm sorry to hear that. You have nothing to be ashamed of. Rapists are the ones who should be ashamed of such a horrible and sick crime. I imagine you've had PTSD, and it must be painful to the point of making you feel vulnerable when people don't believe you. I've never experienced such pain, but I know how it feels when people don't believe in you and evil persons go unpunished.

Stay strong Blue 🙏💜

I ain't sure if this is the right place to post about this sort of stuff but what the heck

I have a real problem with masturbation. I've started back when I was 15 and have been doing it ever since regularly once a day on average. About a year ago (thanks to my newfound love for God) I've realised that this was wrong and had to stop. And man, oh man, let me tell ya, quitting is easier said than done. There were so many "last times" I've lost any count. It's an addiction, it truly is. Your own body is fighting against you, your brain gets very cunning in tricking you to do it, I've never taken drugs but based on what I've heard about them it sounds fairly similair minus the extreme withdrawals I guess. It feels like a fever, like a fire burning you from the inside, like the whole world is screaming at you "DO IT !", you can't concentrate on anything, you're just wasting precious time trying to stop yourself from searching for pornography.

And thinking back to the kind of stuff I was watching it's truly amazing how powerful this addiction is in silencing your consciousness. Porn is all about how women are just mindless objects whose whole existence is to give men sexual pleasure. It's all about getting the biggest shot of someone's dick going into someone's a-hole. It's so harmful to a young mind in its views of the opposite sex, it's terrifying. It may sound over the top but I believe that watching porn is equal to encouraging women being rapped on camera and I feel ashamed for participating in it.

Some porn is even weaponising the fact you know what you're doing is wrong against you. Like, some of it just straight-up tells you "keep indulging your porn addiction you miserable f**k, keep worshipping the porn goddesses, why go outside and interact with real people when you can stay home and jerk off for hours ? etc.". Truly disgusting.

Also a thing I've learned about masturbation recently - it is NEVER worth it. Seconds of pleasure turn into hours and days of depression and self-disgust and the hardest thing is to brush off and start from the ground zero. I can only pray to God for forgiveness and for him to give me strength and patience to keep resisting this addiction so hopefully one day I'll be able to look back and say "Yeah, that was a part of my past self"

This is separate from some real issues you bring up around modern pornography, but, masturbating once in a while is actually very good for you, assuming you aren't having regular sex. Orgasms keep your prostate healthy, and you don't want that getting cancerous, I promise.

QuoteSeconds of pleasure turn into hours and days of depression and self-disgust and the hardest thing is to brush off and start from the ground zero.

This sounds as psychologically unhealthy as spending all day gooning tbh. Wasting time watching porn and wasting time being miserable over having watched porn previously is still giving it all your mental energy.

@Kradan. I hear you. It's not easy when everything in society is hypersexualized either. Explicit content is encouraged and rewarded - It's been almost normalized.

For men, the 15-20 minutes of watching porn to receive 10-15 seconds of ecstasy isn't worth the potential long-term complications (reduced dopamine, which can later lead to depression, etc.), but you're trapped in the cycle.

Pornography, by all intents and purposes, is a drug. And the addiction feeds off your personal circumstances. For me, it was whenever I felt lonely or stressed. I didn't have a particularly good social life (being an introvert), so the easiest way for me to find happiness/pleasure was through gaming, food, and sexual relief.

I think once you find a purpose or a goal - something that you're passionate about and deeply resonate with - you can break any harmful addiction. Don't get me wrong, masturbation is still a healthy activity to engage in, within moderation, especially to help decompress.

Like Jackie Treehorn always said: "People forget that the brain is the biggest erogenous zone."

If you need porn to be a coomer, that's just a failure of imagination.

I tried rely solely on my imagination but all it did is just lead me back to computer

I hear you folks saying that doing it every once in a while is OK but I feel like for me that line is just way too blurry. Like, what is healthy frequency ? Once a day ? A week ? Two weeks ? A month ? Idk but what I do know is that every time I break it causes me to want more and more often. Like, If I was abstaining for a week and then fapped there's like 99% chance I would do it again in 2-3 days and then back to once every day. I just find abstaining from it completely is easier than trying to moderate it

Ultimately, it's about what works for you.

Some people can just drop bad habits completely. Others need to wean off them slowly through reduced exposure. Both have their pros and cons.

If you're not having regular intercourse with a partner, masturbating 2-3 times a week is generally a healthy amount - about as frequent as recommended weekly showers. But if you feel you can't manage it without pornography then you can continue to abstain, or you need to be acutely aware of your situation if you do decide to engage in it.

Alternatively, you can try mental exercises and techniques to improve your imagination. Stuff like reading, writing, and meditating.

I would say the main thing is you can't shame yourself for doing it. Always, keep it positive, if you slip up and do it when you didn't want to, oh well you'll do better next time. The more you think about it to the more you're going to obsess over it. So, it will take practice but fill your mind with other things. The brain is like a muscle and the harder you work it the more growth you'll see.

Out of experience I can say I would do it like 2/3 times a day. I would definitely get annoyed sometimes, but then I'd just challenged myself to see how long I could go without it. If I went long great, if I didn't...oh well. I have a partner now and I still do it when they aren't around and we have sex a lot. We even joke about it.

I would say the main thing is don't be hard on yourself. I don't want to interfere with your personal beliefs but I would say turning to any religion isn't going to help much. They tend to look very harshly on sex and other things that don't fit "the perfect image".  I personally believe there is a high power but more on the subconscious and energetic level, seems just as ridiculous to me as a man in the sky keeping tabs on you! And just remember the power (of god or whatever you pray to) is and always has been in you so you're more of capable of doing it with hard work and discipline, it may not be easy and you may slip up but that's all a part of learning. The main thing is you just don't quit!

Anyways hope that helps!

I shouldn't have taken my management position over 20 years ago. I was actually happy working 30 hours because I had time for myself, keeping the house clean and was really into my writing and drawing.

What happened was I fell into the trap that you have to do something with your life involving going out into the job industry. My 30 hours turned to 40, 40 turned to 45, 45 turned to 48 and then to 60 hours a week.

It was soul crushing.

I'm still in management but working less hours now and encourage young people to do what they feel they want to and to not cave in to society's demands that you're supposed to work a 9-5. The way I see it, people working in general is contributing to society, whether they have a business cutting grass and cleaning the gutters or working only 30 hours.

Broccoli is OK. Not the best thing in the world but, you know, it's fine

The vegetables are the things made by the devil. In the Bible, it is said that Lucifer gave Eve Broccoli and she hated it, so Lucifer suggested her to eat an apple and that's how the Seven deadly sins were made.

I have a pentagram tattoo and have that archvile tag on here, so good call. But one day you will eat your f**king vegetables like an adult human.

I maintain people who don't like vegetables just haven't found the way they like them done.

Generations were ruined by bland steamed vegetables (which, to be fair, I like - but it's not indicative of their potential.)

Yes. The only real difference is the sugar content; just make sure if you're eating lots of fruit you're not also consuming lots of added sugar in other foods.

Plant-based nutritionally complete food containing all essential vitamins;
https://uk.huel.com/pages/about-us

(As I type this I'm preparing my usual breakfast; 90g of Huel Black powder (for the lower carbs and higher protein over the white edition) - 1x 45g scoop of coffee caramel flavour and 1x 45g scoop of salted-caramel, mixed in 500ml of water and then shaken until thick - this stuff has been a game changer for me over the last 3 years!) 😃

For all the broccoli haters, you'll be pleased to know that the offending vegetable was banned from the White House and Air force One by HW Bush in 1990.

Apparently the ban is still in place on Air Force One planes.

It is a good vegetable.
