Incredibly bummed that I'm not gonna be able to see this in a theater (I really feel like Disney is sweeping all of their theatrical Fox properties under the rug - The Last Duel barely getting any promotion and only lasting two weeks in most venues was absurd), but happy to have a 2022 release date confirmed, love the new title, and love the synopsis.

Lets be honest. The only good predator movies are Predator and Predator 2. From the time when one needs poweful, well trained, true warriors to take down an Yatuja. Now they put slender silly teens to do the same job. Politically correct garbage.
Prey - to me at least - is the first one since
Predator 2 that actually seems to understand the appeal of the original film. Take a film genre/setting, drop a Predator in, and watch chaos ensue.
Among many other problems that they have,
Predators and
The Predator try too hard to worldbuild and establish a fully realized universe. I admittedly like
Predators' game preserve planet concept, but the film itself can't support the weight of that and just kind of fizzles out by the middle and never picks itself back up (maybe if Rodriguez had personally directed the film he might have been able to inject a bit more energy into it, who knows). And I don't even know where to start with
The Predator...
Predator 2's worldbuilding, on the creature side of things, isn't a narrative crutch and instead works in service of letting us explore a bit about the film's particular Predator's personality (he's kind of a dick! :D).

The Plains are South Central and Southwestern, so there would have already been Spanish colonists there during that period. If they're setting it in early 1700's, then there would probably not have been contact. If it's set in the mid-1700's, then there would have been contact with the Spanish.
So they're probably just setting it during the early 1700's, just prior to first contact with the Spanish. Either way, the claw marks on the Prey script looks like bear claws so, here's hoping we get to see a Grizzly :)

i think the scale of the predator in the photo released is intentional. NGL, if the predator is gigantic its going to pull a really interesting twist to the whole franchise. But then maybe the female lead is suppose to be super tiny. like 4 foot 3 or something.

Maybe it's lost in translation. But checking all the boxes basically means (let's use a cooking analogy) that it has the right ingredients. But it still takes a chef to prepare it adequately. :)

I feel like that was a bit different though. That was shamelessly taking a movie with an all-male lead cast and replacing them with women.
Don't get me wrong, I'm absolutely in the cautious camp with this, but I'm not sure that's a fair comparison, because even if you take out the female lead it seems like they're trying to do something a bit different with this movie.

Even though I loved two of the actresses in the film "Bridesmaids", Ghostbusters 2016 was just a painful experience for me. Too much ad libbing in what felt like a constant unfunny effort to out do each other with their wit. But I think it's wrong to attribute the poor quality of that film to females starring. An all-male cast could have been easily substituted in that production and I believe it would have been equally as bad the way that entire movie was constructed. But regardless, I think what is important here is to form an opinion
after actually seeing the film. I would say everyone should afford that opportunity with "Prey".

If there's definitely one thing that got me excited regarding Prey, it's the setting. It's a great one to put a predator in ! Depending on many other factors though, it can also be shitty. I stay on the optimistic side for now.

So yeah, I can empathize with the feeling. However, with interesting setting and everything could still suck with the wrong execution. But it seems to me that we have already seen everything about the Predator hunting humans in the modern age, so I fantasized about the past or future.

I have to second that notion of Feudal Japan. Just got Ghost Of Tsushima, (I know, late much) and the entire atmosphere and storytelling of the game was just phenomenal. Since the release of Samurai Predator for Predator Hunting Grounds alongside GOT, it just made the want for a Predator film during the Japanese-Mongolian conflict of that same time period so much stronger. Seeing the Predator observe the conflict and hunting each side for their strongest warriors to claim.
Speaking of the game, I really wished there was a special crossover event, I mean why doesn't want to see these two have a go at it?
