Title: The Architect of the Apocalypse, Talking to Destroying Angels writer Mark Schultz - AvP Galaxy Podcast #143
Post by: Corporal Hicks on Apr 26, 2022, 09:32:47 AM

We have just uploaded the 143rd episode of the Alien vs. Predator Galaxy Podcast (right-click and save as to download)! We’d like to wish everyone out there a happy Alien Day! And as you should all expect by now, since it’s Alien Day we set out to bother someone of significance to Alien franchise to chat to for all your listening pleasure!

For 2022 we were able to track down none other than the Architect of the Apocalypse himself, the writer of numerous Alien and Predator comics including the fan favourite Aliens: Apocalypse – The Destroying Angels, Mr Mark Schultz to talk about his massive career writing for Aliens and Predator.

The Architect of the Apocalypse, Talking to Destroying Angels writer Mark Schultz - AvP Galaxy Podcast #143

We discuss Mark’s experience writing for both Alien and Predator, Lovecraft in Alien, how he feels about Prometheus, plenty about Destroying Angels, crossovers with DC and plenty more!

During the interview, I accidentally say Batman/Superman vs Aliens/Predator references Arcturus being the Alien homeworld. I meant to say it references that location as the Predator homeworld.

Mark seems like a very nice fellow, who equally calmly takes his succeses and failures. Good one, gentlemen

Also, Corporal, I would like to see that rare piece of concept art from the first movie you were talking about with Mark, the one you called "Red City"

The Red City as i recall has more to do with some concept art done by Chris Foss if i'm not mistaken. There was a take in the script regarding a some kind of Pyramid that the crew of the Nostromo original were going to explore. They find a dead alien or something. The Red is really in reference to the visual pallete. Its not really red per-say.
There was a giant skull that was also designed....gosh i would have to look at Alien explorations website for this.

Good Pod guys! Mark Shultz is a nice guy, I've met him a couple of times. Down to earth and very talented, gives great advice if you ask. Funny that he nailed what's been missing from the franchise in the first 2 minutes of the interview. Looking forward to the next.

It wasn't quite the spiral I had remembered but here we go! It was by Elliott Scott.

There's snippets from this draft in Rinzler's Alien too.

Thanks Lost_Hunter! Glad you enjoyed it :) It was such a fun episode to record. Mark was such a gracious and nice guest. I really do wish more of the writers missed that Lovecraft feel that Mark zeroed straight in on.
