Alien: Covenant is going to be covered in the next Empire and the next Entertainment Weekly. I imagine it'll be coverage of the Showcase 2017 event but it'll be worth looking out for in case they come with some new stills.

Reading the plot looks like a remake-sequel of Alien-Prometheus.
QuoteThe first still gives us a glimpse at Ridley Scott directing Katherine Waterston. The second shows us Fassbender as Walter and I think Amy Seimetz.
Actress is Carmen Ejogo 8)
I don't believe Carmen has blond hair.
It says it's carmen right there above the picture
So it does! Amended.
Looks like Shaw.. Hmm! :P
Sweet, things are trickling out nicely now.
Thanks for uploading that Gazz
I so desperately hope we get an Alien Empire cover this time around. The AvP's never got cover stories :( I know Prometheus did, but at that point in time Scott kept insisting it wasn't an Alien prequel so it wasn't the same :(
Edit... yep looks like Ejogo.
Reminds me of the interview quotes from Reiko Aylesworth, back when she was trying to avoid comparisons for 'Requiem' to Ripley, too.
Where....is....the....trailerrrrrr?
It's in Santa's sleigh.
I'm glad that they are acknowledging some of the complaints about Prometheus. It shows a willingness to learn, and hopefully improve upon what worked in Prometheus and in Alien.
Quote from: Empire Magazine...says Michael Fassbender, the only returning cast member.
Are they not aware that Rapace and Pierce was also returning?
Neither has been officially confirmed yet.
makes me laugh there are loads of pics for the film now but still no trailer I want to see the film really bad but the more they make me wait just bores me more than anything I hope the trailer is good when released all the hype.lets just hope that its not all it is

They haven't been officially confirmed. Franco has confirmed he's appearing. Neither Pearce or Rapace have spoken about it.
Why would he come back though unless it's for flashbacks? The guy was clearly dead at the end of Prometheus.

It's not weird.
She could be making a surprise appearance that the producers want to keep hush-hush. From what others have said, she and Guy Pierce have been spotted on set. That's all I can think of because I'm not looking at any spoilers.
Noomi confirmed at that Ridley Scott Ceremony thing a bit earlier in the year that she'd worked with him in the summer. But yeah the cat is out of the bag in regards to her short appearance in it.

He's a rarity amongst men.
That's right. ;)
I've largely avoided the spoilers myself, I'm more interested in getting a feeling for the film via trailer then spoiling the entire plot ahead of time.
I used to spoil myself like crazy, but as I've gotten older I've come to realize I was ruining the experiences of going to the movies. It's tempting because you want to join in the conversations, but I know when I go see the movie it will be worth it.

I don't think I spoiled myself with
Prometheus except for the trailers. I know there were early reviews of the film that someone posted on this site and they loathed the film. A lot of the members on the site didn't believe him but it ended up being true.

All the pictures we have seen isn't it now time to at least show us a pic of the alien or aliens as we kind of know what to expect
I reckon we'll see one in the trailer.
I hope we don't overdose on images of the new xeno. To be honest, I'd like a return to the approach of Alien where the creature is more hinted at and kept a mystery.
I think the marketing will likely push the traditional Alien. I'd love them to keep the Neomorph in some secrecy.

People like to collect things and magazines have exclusive information. The info gets out eventually, sure -- pretty much immediately, really -- but people still like to be first in line.
Unfortunately, a lot of magazines have shut down because of the easy access to the Internet. When I was a lad, I was always buying gaming or technology magazines. This was before the days of the Internet. Now, they cost like £5/£6 each. It's too much.
There'll always be a place for magazines. I used to like reading them in the bath.

Article in
Oubliette Magazine. an Italian web based magazine!!
Translated from article:
Quote Alien: Covenant ", the new film by Ridley Scott: the origin of evil .
There is always fear when talking about the prequel and sequel. Especially if the film in question is an icon that has made the history of cinema (Sci-Fi in this case).
Alien, has now become, though, what the experts call a franchise. From time.
Since 1979, the first successful film weblog Ridley Scott, many products and baked films until the 2000s: comics, movies and film, it is rumored, short a TV series.
Without speaking of collections (the first, which cost well $ 11 million it has collected, over time, more than 105, for example) we welcome therefore, what many have called, not without a presumption wire, the movie now anchored to another a story that knows already seen.
Alien: Covenant, the title of the new chapter of the saga, is approaching the exit in the rooms (in Italy from 11 May) and according to the promotional machine Threads - watchwords of this new episode would be "welcome back horror! ".
To ItalianHorror that is the spirit that, at least initially, walked the first film, which ended then, over time, to embrace multiple genres together in a mix of emotions and delusions (for some fans) with a fluctuating but steady stream - in outputs, at least.
The trailer for this Alien: Covenant is clear: the horrific aspects were characterizing part of this new episode being written (written by John Logan on a story by Jack Paglen and Michael Green).
Alien Covenant - Ridley Scott
The plot: from the little that has been leaked, including rumors, rumors and confirmations on the part of those directly involved - ie by the protagonists, Katherine Waterston (The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby - You, Steve Jobs, Michael Clayton, The Factory, Fantastic Beasts and where find them, Boardwalk Empire), Michael Fassbender (300, Inglourious Basterds, Jane Eyre, X-men the beginning, Prometheus, Shame, Macbeth, Steve Jobs, Assassin's Creed, Band of brothers), Noomi Rapace (Men who hate women , Sherlock Holmes - a Game of shadows, Prometheus, Millenium) Danny McBride (Tropic Thunder, Due Date, 30 minutes or less) and Billy Cudrup (Sleepers, Almost Famous, Big Fish, Men & women, Mission: Impossible III, the Good Sheperd, Wtachmen, Jackie) - should be as follows: most of the crew of the Prometheus mission passed away.
The survivors appear to be the synthetic David (Fassbender, this time also in the shoes of a second android named Walter) and Elizabeth Shaw (Rapace) trying to stay alive ... Totally new, then, the rest of the cast (Demian Bichir, Katherine Waterston Billy Cudrup and Danny McBride
He directs, once again, "Dad" Ridley. Distributed by 20th Century Fox, this Alien: Covenant promises emotions, bolstered by a stellar cast - Fassbender on all -: able to repeat the success of the first chapter and lucky (including an Oscar, a Golden Globe and a Bafta)?
We'll find out just living! vivivendo (survival) living ... "we find out only (survival) living ...

QuoteA new issue of Empire arrives in all good and evil newsagents from today, and leading the pack of exclusive first looks at the biggest movies os Alien: Covenant, Ridley Scott's sci-fi prequel-sequel, which leads up this month's Preview section. Here's a sneak peek of that exclusive new image, which sees the new crew of the Covenant setting foot on a verdant new planet. Take a look below, and click to embiggen.
As the new Empire explains, this planet is not their original destination: they have detoured to answer a distress call. And given this franchise, it's a good guess that "distress" will soon be too mild a description.
"What's great about this story is the characters are so different," says the film's returning star, Michael Fassbender. "They're not just filling out a spaceship, their characters have been thought about. It harks back to those really cool characters in the original Alien, where there are great relationships going on outside of the [alien]."

It's a huge freaking planet and they land in water???

Water would be a most valuable resource for colonists.
That's it. So we're still waiting on the set visit coverage.

Water would be a most valuable resource for colonists.
Of course. But why get wet feet on day one? 20 meters further might have been dry land. And does the shuttle not blow up on a grass surface? Might be wrong with that.
You see it on the shore. Perhaps the jungle is just to dense and this was the closest point to the signal?
The spot where the ship lands its a very shallow place next to the grass in Milford Sounds.
I've been there ;)
It depends on the tide whether the ship is in the water or on "land".
All those unofficial set photographs from last year either showed the dropship prop high-and-dry or in shallow water but still in the same spot.
Milford Sound is lovely but it all just looks like Milford Sound, not an alien planet. It's one of the worlds leading tourist destinations and easily recognizable. I was hoping they'd digitally extend the background and amp everything up a bit. Taller mountains, taller waterfalls etc. Like they did with the Wadi Rum scenery in Prometheus, such as adding the tall snow covered mountains behind the desert scenery.
Now this may simply just be a behind-the-scenes photograph, maybe they will still change things up a bit in post. Although the scenery in the trailer wasn't really altered as far as I could see.
EDIT
Actually nevermind, this is not a bts shot. The dropship prop has the CG extensions added so what we see here is probably what we'll see in the final film. :-\
Well, at least for movie sightseeing travel it is now an easy bait :D
The "last supper" teaser has a very Nostromo feel about the ship and crew. Looking forward to seeing the film even more now then when I saw the first trailer back at Christmas.
Where they land probably won't be altered much CGI wise, sure it's recognisable but so is Iceland in Prometheus, Oblivion and Rogue One, they'll be more to it I'm sure, Scott did talk about "formidable" CGI after all.
Iceland in Prometheus wasn't really an issue, it was supposed to be ambiguous after all. It could have been primordial Earth or another planet. It's also not an instantly recognizable tourist location like Milford Sound.
Its supposed to be a Paradise and Milford Sound is therefor ideal location
for filming such a scenery.
The Covenant lands on earth lol

Except that anyone who has actually traveled around and seen a bit of the world (or even just picked-up a National Geographic) would immediately know it's Milford Sound. And for the rest there are gazillions of photographs on the web of that particular waterfall.
If it was the seventies or eighties then I could understand. Nowadays they have the means to radically and believably alter the environment.

Oh, I did complain about it before. A full-on complaint. Totally.
Yes, I altered my post just to better point things up.
We'll see how things look when the film comes out. We may yet be surprised. Same team (MPC) doing the scenery as Prometheus and The Martian.
MPC is pretty good. High expectations.
I understand what bothers The Eighth Passenger.
But no matter, the place is so fantastic and cinematic. It has never been shown in a popular movie, so I don't see any harm.
Especially as we certainly havn't seen everything, I imagine the temple of engineers will be quite impressive to see in such place..

This is true but even if altered dramatically I suspect it'd still be fairly recognisable, you can't really improve on the paradisaical majesty of 'Sound and I suspect Scott was too smitten to disturb it too much, sure it's not the most alien of worlds (so far) but that's precisely the dangerous allure. Anyway, the larger context of the landscape remains to be seen so I'm sure there is much more.
lol they again not using any sort of breathing device in an alien planet regardless it's got breathable air?
I wouldn't know it was Milford Sound if I hadn't been following the film either. And seeing so many Alien planets filmed in the forests of Vancouver has never bothered me either. Personally, I really love the change of scenery. If I couldn't get my Giger-esque landscape, I'm glad we didn't have yet another barren planet.

While suits/helmets are always a reasonable precaution as it's certainly possible on another alien world that a human pathogen might exist, the extraterrestrial environment does not make it more likely for native microbes to be pathogenic for humans, in fact it actually makes it less likely.

Well, Scott had a similar situation with the Wadi Rum, a popular tourist destination but managed to make it not look like the Wadi Rum in The Martian and Prometheus. But we'll see, it could simply be a case of the final visuals not being finished yet considering the long lead times on trailers and promotional stills.
Here is a little visual effects reel by MPC (same guys currently doing Covenant's enviroments) on how they created LV-223 in Prometheus. You'll see it's basically pieced together from bits of Iceland, the Wadi Rum in Jordan and fully artificial CGI enviroments. My assumption was always that it would be the same case for Paradise in Alien: Covenant.

That scene alone looks as disturbing as f**k due to the scale of the event. The implication riding on that image is of genocide of an entire cilivisation - it's genuinely horrific - and we've already had some indication of what the result will be. My wife is not going to like this movie.
On the other hand, the scene does have other implications, too. It tells us how narrowly the Earth came to disaster. If the 'PROMETHEUS' Engineer had been successful in launching the Juggernaut then that city could have just as easily been New York, or Paris or London.
...or maybe even Pyongyang.
Actually, that last choice might not have been such a bad idea... tee-hee...

That is one big fckn city!!! and what is that scorpion tale hanging above the square with the hole in the middle? David couldnt possibly get them all with the vase droppings (Hear Jeff Goldblum say it: Vase...vase droppings.....alien vase droppings?) because that city is huge, so most likely there will be mutations if the goo infects that city.
As for them not being engineers, well enlarge the picture of the citadel the article even call them engineers and they pretty much look like them, but they also look like cheap characters from an episode of Star Trek TNG :D
After seeing all this i wonder why Ridley went with this approach, choosing an alien race that is evolved, but for some reason hasnt been discovered and yet they look like monks, at this point all i can think of is, imagine a dropship with an apc and some colonial marines land there, and all out guerrilla war in the citadel streets, and eventually Bono with U2 standing on the roofs singing where the streets have no name, and hearing the pulse rifles rip through those giant muscular big ass nose people.

will be epic and insane. it's especially hitting when you realise that you will see all those 'civilians' with emotions and faces.
Which is why i think they made them look different to the engineers from prometheus; the prometheus engineers looked a tad faceless, bland.
In the guys we see in the leaks here, we see different faces, characters, emotions - like real people. and moments later, we see a gigantic amount of scarred, burnt, dead bodies still with facial expressions on them (just look at my avatar pic).
which i think, hits home even harder. Not just some faceless entity nobody knows or cares about - no. 'Beings'.with emotions. massacred.
I wonder if that city is literally the only city on the world or are there more? Definitely getting that prison monks vibe too. Although I think they're just another version of engineer created humanoids. It's be more epic if they were the very engineers that escaped from lv223 though.

I think we are meant to be disturbed by that scene. This movie is going to be brutal.
It's not OK for Syrians to bomb Syria. It's not OK for US (and Allies) to bomb Syria, either. The same goes for Pyongyang. Nobody should be dropping bombs on anyone. WW2, now; or ever. Nonetheless, it does happen.

Just a heads up to the UK fans - I read the chief editor's blurb in the new Empire magazine today and the forthcoming Empire promo is a commemorative Alien issue exclusive to Sainsburys stores.
Good to know. Thanks. Any release date?

"It's fair to say there are few franchises that matter more to Empire. So we may have gone to town a bit, with unrivalled access to the new film and a whole load of exclusive new images. That's not all though. On 26 April, to celebrate World Alien Day, we are releasing a very special, very limited edition of Empire. It'll only be available in selected Sainsbury's or via pre-sale exclusively to subscribers (you'll be hearing from us shortly with details), and please keep checking Empire's social channels for the big reveal of just why it is so special" :)
Typed that word for word lol so sorry there's no link, but it's page 6 under This month at Empire
Ace. Thanks for the transcript. :)
No problem :)

I'm liking the looks of this one.
When does that one come out?
So I read SFX in the supermarket yesterday. Well skimmed it. Not gonna buy it because the front cover is appalling. But read an interesting tidbit I had to doubletake on.
Please don't read if you don't want to be spoiled as it sounds pretty significant
Spoiler
Something about Daniels with "a Xenomorph's head on a stick" near the end of the film. SFX were on set. Maybe they got it confused with a neomorph who knows.
Also the article reveals Scott wanted the Practical Alien in any shot where it didn't require mo-cap or cgi. That isn't new I know but reaffirms his ambition to shoot everything real if he could.

Covenant will be featured in Cinefex so keep an eye out for that!
So i recieved my mondo movies.birth.death magazine. Overall its pretty great esp for the price but the images throughout look overly dark and i wasnt blown away by the art.
How's the Logan interview? Any good insight?

Its okay, nothing too interesting I thought. There were some great questions asked but I didn't feel very satisfied by some of his answers.
However...
Spoiler
He does say it's an origin story for the alien.
It does sound like he and Ridley were really passionate about making a good story. I would say though that after reading it I think Logan is a fan of the franchise for different reasons than me, if that makes sense.
He also says hes working on the script for the sequel. When asked if we'll see the engineers in the future he said "That would be a giving you a clue to what im writing now."

Thanks, Echo. That could go either way quite easily.
