Figure Photos of the North

Well I've got a collection and a phone camera so it's something I've thought of taking a crack at, though not necessarily Alien or Predator related this seems to be the board where figure photo's are found so here it goes.

So here is what I've started out with.

So I decided to get some practice in for an anticipated fall contest and this is the figure I want to use.

So I've downloaded GIMP (I've never had it on the PC, the last time I ever used it was on the lap top ages ago) and following a tip I googled I've made an attempt to make it look sharper as a newbie at photo editing.

This is the result with Radius 3.0, Amount 0.5, Threshold 0. Would you say it looks better or needs work? (I'm leaning towards needs work)

Also the contest is up so I won't be posting anything new because of the contest rules, but I will be making an Instagram account later as my choice of platform for entry.

Well that contest didn't go anywhere because of some pretty stiff competition but here ya go.
