The Robert Rodriquez Spanish galleon was the start of that crazy-ass Predators script set in the future.

I recall a local sci fi magazine saying that Robert Rodriguez pitched something similar, spanish gallion was being mentioned and the title back then (around 1998) was supposed to be Hunters from what I recall.

They probably mixed both pitches.

That's pretty much every Predator film, dropping him into another genre piece.

The Red Violin

That was a great movie...but throwing that premise into the Predator franchise...I don't know, I'm not sure how it can work well. Wait... on second thought, actually it might just work...yeah you are right, if it is done well, they might just be able to make the concept work.

I definitely prefer Prey's take, treating the weapon itself with importance to the overall narrative.

Now, it's been a while since I've seen this movie, but I think that if it was done more in the fashion of The Red Violin it could stand a chance.  I know, completely different - but I could see a movie about the pistol itself working out in that way, of course with Predators taking the place of general misfortune and sadness like in the movie

I'd take any Predator story done in 90's. Shame it didn't work out.

Interesting but not that captivating overall.

Thinking the same.  The comic story sounds better to me.

I'm generally adverse to fan service but occasionally (and rarely) it can be done right and the concept of exploring the flintlock from Predator 2 is one such case.  Presuming that the story was well written, that would have been a pretty neat thing to see.

The Thomas Brothers and Kevin Peter Hall both alluded to the flintlock being an opening for a "Predator 3", with the Thomas Brothers receiving a half-hearted offer to direct - if Predator 2 was a hit at the box office. So the creators seemingly felt this was the right direction to go as well with Predator 3.

I just personally would love to guage which of these paths... the Thomas Brothers story/script (if one exists), the 1718 comic, or the Briggs story... was the best path to take.

Given the AVP anime, we should bug Fox or whomever it may concern to do an anime on this if this can't be a film. Assuming the lawsuit goes over well it'd be about time they did something with that.
