damn near every and any scene ever shot on film follows these 2 rules. dont believe me? next time youre watching ANY movie, count the seconds off in your head between camera cuts. they will always fall within 3 seconds or close to 7 seconds.
the alien is USUALLY shown in the 3 second rule because cutting that quickly keeps you guessing. your brain cant get a 100% fix on what its seeing, it only sees glimpses of detail. this is done for a purpose... it helps keep the monster a mystery, even when you KNOW what it looks like, your brain still wants to see ALL of the details so it keeps you glued to the screen.
