Sevendust/Red.
MuteMath.

But next month I am going to see my dad's band play, and shoot some pics also.

The small ones are the best, I find.  I just can't get worked up for the really big shows any more.

I know what you mean.  It was nice with everyone having their own seats and no chaos.. just enjoy the music.  Indoors too, so had the luxury of not sweating my ass off in Texas heat. :)

I kinda wanted a VIP package to meet Mustaine and the rest of the guys, but that was a hell of a lot of money.

I doubt Mustaine knows as much about Milwaukee as Cooper does, but Dave Mustaine is smart as hell.

Three Days Grace, not so awesome. Breaking Benjamin stole the show, they played the song from Halo 2, Hurt was great. Seether was...okay

Just got back from Gigantour. Holy shit it was f**king metal.

High on Fire - Slide solos make me bored.

Job For A Cowboy - Can't tell when one song ends and one begins. Snooze.

Children of Bodom - My biggest surprise of the night. Laiho has some fantastic solos, and they sounded great live. Fantastic energy, and a very different sound with the harmozing keyboard. I'm definitely going to start listening to them more.

In Flames - Great energy, some fantastic riffs, but definitely a big let down.

Megadeth - Dave sounded great, Shaun's energy on drums was great, James had great energy running around with the base, and Chris Broderick (their new guitarist for anyone who doesn't know) nailed every solo. He really nailed the Tornado of Souls main solo, he is a fantastic guitarist. I'm really looking forward to what he will bring to the next album. Also has fantastic tapping skills.

They didn't play Set the World Afire though.  :(

and you know when your performer is like I wanna hear the sexy people, or this is for the sexy people. The worst looking people you had ever seen in your life would scream and cheer. It looked like your county fair where they bring in the rides from a trailer and set them up in a day. Oh and In the VIP section there was an orgy... Seriously. no one broke it up either. it was sorta cool because there were some hot chicks.

I went to the 'Easycore' tour last year, in Nottingham. It was a pretty good show, I mainly went to see Four Year Strong and New Found Glory but we only got to see the first 5 songs from NFG's set and then we had to catch the train back home. :(

Oh I go to see some metal bands nearly every week, mainly on thursdays becasue it's alternative night and a friend's band is usually playing then.

...I have college the day after too and it's a bitch trying to get up at 7AM with a hangover. :D

I feel for you guys...we bought our tickets months ago...it was a three day festival, Fri-Sun...luckily they sold single day tickets so after Ticketmaster raped us, they came out to $105 each...

But I'm making up for it Saturday, going to see the 10 for $10 show...10 hardcore bands, including a reunited V.O.D., for a dollar each is a recession special if I ever seen one...have to hit up my hardcore roots... :) ...and then I have Dream Theater on Sunday...

August is looking good for Gates... 8)

Oh, Creationfest is one Big Christian festival with lots and lots of Christian music artists, (Praise and worship) or (Christian Rock). Plus guest speakers. Its a four day event.
There's two each year. One in Washington state (Creation Northwest) and in Pennsylvania (Creation Northeast)

Best four days of my life!

No, actually it was the most refreshing time of my life!
If you mean its horrible cause of the music, dont judge a book by its Cover. There is some really Good Christian rock music out there. :)

Skillet,
Thousand foot krutch,
Haste the day,
Since october,
and lots more...

Look them up and hear some of there stuff, they're really good.

Just because they're Christian, doesnt mean they have no talent ;)

I hate christian rock. They may be talented with their instruments but the message is..well like DoomRulz said...Preachy.
Title: Re: The most recent concert you have been to.
Post by: Its Game Time on Oct 27, 2009, 05:17:32 AM
I can understand that... but if you actually listen to most of it, its not so much preacy as it is...relatable, and loving. A lot of it is good to listen to, because it deals with the same everyday stuff we all deal with. It helps bring hope.

But, there is a lot of Christian music that is aggresive with there beliefs, but they never condemn those who dont believe.

Take "Thousand foot krutch" for example. Yeah, they believe and Christ and they are aggresive about it, but not so much "In your face" aggresive just "we're here to help" aggresive. TFK is my favorite band, check them out... they're pretty sweet...but you dont have to, just a suggestion.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDSd7Uh7dXs# (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDSd7Uh7dXs#)

Got a couple lined up all over the UK as well that im really excited about. 2manyDJs in Leeds, Slow Club in Newcastle, Death From Above 1979 in London and im going to Bestival (The Cure are headlining) on The Isle Of Wight in September. Thats one good thing about living in the UK when it comes to music I suppose. If theres somebody playing you love and theyre not playing at the nearest city or town, the UK isnt a monstrous place to get around like the US so its an excuse to jump on a train to another city and make a weekend of it.

Im sure there'll be plenty more as the year goes on.

Yup. That first concert though featured in this order: Mastodon, Dragonforce, Disturbed, and Slipknot. Seeing as how the mosh pits got worse and worse each time a new band came on stage, I learned the best way to deal with it is to not force your way up to the front and always stay balanced.

Yeah, and it only cost $50 too 8)

So Music As A Weapon VI was good. Not great, but good. The opening band Stillwell was f**king amazing. New, nu-metal band that's just breaking out and they have really good material. I would encourage all rockers to check them out.

Disturbed was underwhelming. Draiman is really losing his voice when it comes to live performances. He's never been a good live singer, but last night was especially terrible. He skipped over words, wasn't as animal-like as he sounds on the CDs, and even needed the bassist to back him up. At least the music was good and Draiman is one hell of a showman. He knows how to get a crowd worked up.

Korn was insane. I haven't seen a crowd go that nuts for a band since I saw Slipknot. Though the best part for me wasn't the band, but rather, the two hot chicks next to me that we're making out the entire time ;D

I went to the Azalea Festival on Sunday. Saw three bands and a nameless guitar duet doing Jimmy Buffet covers. The bands I saw were

- The Rockin' Horse band
- Madonna Nash
- The Phantom Playboys

All three were a mixture of rock 'n roll, alternative, and country.

My buddy and I are debating if we want to go both days, just coz Downsview Park is pain in the ass to get to. Takes almost 2 hours via public transit. The Saturday lineup is the better of the two, that's for sure.
Yeah I live about an hour drive away from toronto so me and my friends would probably have to stay the night somewhere if we were hitting up both shows. Which would be awesome.

The sunday line up is weak in some respects (billy talent wtf) but I really want to see Slayer and Mastodon, and everything else is just more band for my buck :D

It's Rob Zombie I want to see more than anything else. I echo your thoughts on Billy Talent being there; it's like JT at the SARS Concert. At least BT is rock though. Not stupid teen pop music.

The bands I am most pumped to see at Heavy TO are
Megadeth
Slayer
Testament
Anthrax
Mastodon
Motorhead
Opeth and
Children of Bodom

Don't know if I'm glad or not that Metallica isn't going..

I'm not :( I missed them in 2010 and for some reason the Big Four isn't coming to Canada!!! This concert though, is essentially The Big Four without Metallica if you think about it.

I just got back from seeing Disturbed live in Newcastle. This was the first of their live shows I'd ever been to, & it was f**king awesome. The song lineup was perfect & the crowd was pumped as hell.

One funny thing I noticed was that David screwed up some of the lyrics to "Warrior". I'm not sure how many others caught that.

Because it takes away driving home at whats probably going to be midnight and then getting up again early to drive there again, 2+ hours of carride. And plus it will be like a sleepover :3 haha

Copied from their site: "Heavy T.O. doors will open at 11:30AM with performances beginning at 1:00PM.  Performances end at 11:00PM." The lineups are too large to do in just the evening I would imagine.

Also this weekend I'm seeing Protest the Hero, Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, and Tesseract on friday (second time seeing this show), a local hardcore show on Saturday night (its the RIP show for a band called King Cobra that has been around forever, a large turnout is expected :) ), and Rammstein on Sunday at the ACC. f**k. Yeah.

Went to Evolution today. Saw Cattle & Cane & The Good Lovelies at Ballast Hill who were both excellent, and saw Hercules & Love Affair, The Kills, Two Door Cinema Club and Iggy & The Stooges at Spillers Wharf. Iggy & The Stooges were great but could have been better, but they were restricted by an hour set. I felt the same way about The Kills. It was great to see them live but the crowd and atmosphere was crap, and they only had 45 minutes. Cant wait to see them again at Leeds.

Allison sure is weirder than I thought on stage though. Covering her face with her hair most of the time and then putting her hands over her face the rest. Shes a bit of an odd one, but thats why I love them. A bit weird, but intriguing for sure.

Day 2 of Heavy T.O. was better than I expected. I'm not sure if Slayer or Rob Zombie put on a better live show. RZ certainly had the better visuals and there was more to ogle at, whereas Slayer had no visuals to speak of yet, by pure musical force, they just commanded an intense show. Both bands sounded amazing live so I can't say one was better than the other in that aspect. I felt bad for Billy Talent though becaue people were hurling water bottles at them. If you don't like the band, then just go do something else. Simple as.

The Edmonton Folk Music Festival. Four days of some great performers; Taj Mahal, K.T. Tunstall, Edward Sharpe, Lyle Lovett, John Mayell, Joe Louis Walker, Andrew Bird, Noah and the Whale, Imelda May, this great Irish group called Kíla (who made staring at clouds f**king epic), and countless others.

Funnest moment was definitely while listening to this Quebecois Folk group called Les Temps Antan. Had this great beat that made everyone just get up and dance.

Just got back from Leeds Festival on Monday and I caught these live acts / DJ's.

Best Coast, Dave The Elephant, Friendly Fires, DFA 1979, Elbow, Muse, Does It Offend You Yeah?, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zero's, Naked & Famous, Foster The People, Metronomy, The Offspring, Simian, Digitalism, Joy Formidable, Pigeon Detectives, Seasick Steve, Two Door Cinema Club, Jimmy Eat World, Madness, The Strokes and finally Pulp.

I also saw SBTRKT play live in a small tent after Pulp (the final headline act of the weekend) and Two Door Cinema Club then came on and did a DJ set. Two Door had played live earlier that day and SBTRKT had done a DJ set in the dance tent the day before and had come back for the sunday to do a little live show to keep the party going  ;D

Brilliant weekend.

I enjoyed all of the performances above but my standouts were Best Coast, DFA, Muse, Naked & Famous, Metronomy, Simian, Madness and Pulp. While I enjoyed seeing them live for the first time I thought Strokes were piss poor as a live act. Dont know if it was because they headlined Reading and then Pulp headlined Leeds so they werent arsed but it was completely forgetable for me. Pulp on the other hand were superb.

Friendly Fires? SWEET. i live in sweden, i dont believe they have come here ever. loved their latest album.
Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs? sounds hipster-douchy. they any good?

This summer, i was in gothenburg, here in sweden, it was a sweet festival called Way Out West. this is why i came:

Janelle Monae
Empire Of The Sun
Prince
Explosions In The Sky.
and finsihed it of with Kanye Motherf***in West.

TEED are excellent. SBTRKT were supposed to be supporting but when the original gig got cancelled and then rescheduled it got changed to TEED and I was over the moon.

I went to Evanescence in Newcastle the other night. I have to say it was an amazing show, the whole band had so much energy on stage & Amy Lee's voice sounds just as perfect in person as it does on their records. I'll definitely be going back to see them again when they tour next.

My most recent was Opeth/Mastodon/Ghost at the Sony Center in Toronto ON. Pretty kickass show, although seated venue so no mosh was had. Most of the bands played their prog rock stuff anyway. Opeth only played 2 of their old death metal songs, but their whole set was fantastic so whatever. Mastodon was my least favourite cause i'd already seen them twice previously. Ghost was spectactular, especially considering I hadn't heard any of their songs previously. Creepy nameless ghoul priests playing macabre old school heavy metal, f**king killer.

Did anyone else catch this tour? Anyone else a fan of these bands? gimme a shout yo

Went to Deadmau5 last fall, was epic.

This year I went to SXSW, saw a few 'indie' acts like Anoraak.  Also some death metal band at Hoek's (a crazy pizza place with a stage for metal bands).  Lastly some small electronic venues which were kinda cool.

that is a great lineup. well, i'm not really into baroness, but meshuggah and decapitated are epic. the first 4 decapitated albums are all brilliant! meshuggah are a bit hit and miss, but their best is brilliant too. (catch33, chaosphere and destroy erase improve)

Dude agalloch is so rad! They are playing in Toronto in july at a decent venue so I'm super stoked on that.
EDIT: Nope, its 19+ , f**k my life

I just got home from Volumes + The Contortionist at a local venue in my town. It's the first local show I've been two in like 6 or 8 months so it was awesome to see all the familiar faces and a lot of new ones too. Love the scene in Barrie. The contortionist is my all time favourite band at the moment, so seeing them again and chatting with them about the new album and upcoming headlining tour was awesome.

LMAO no lol Maiden was on the friday night and warped was on the sunday morning, both at Ontario place in and around the amphitheater.

Warped tour has (largely crappy) music that is popular with the youths. I went to see Every Time I Die and a couple specific others.

Oh god the blooming onions were so gross and totally not worth 10 bucks looking back. I'm a slipknot fan now, and I wish In Flames had of played at least one older song. Suicidal was pretty sick for me only knowing 1 song of theirs.

My favourite sets were Gojira, Protest the Hero, and Dillinger Escape Plan (holy f**k I love Dillinger holy f**k holy f**k)

System of a Down was really awesome but the best band on Sunday was cannibal corpse for sure \m/

I had fallen out of love with them for about a year or two in favour of other more metal bands, and seeing them re-confirmed my fandom for them in a way. Yeah Gojira is super rad.

Just saw SoaD a few weeks ago, they are pretty much back to form, but Daron gained so much weight I was shocked (must be off whatever drugs he was on)...and before that, I was grateful to finally see Pink Floyd live at the Yankee Stadium show - f**king amazing..!

EDIT: Just got tickets for Lamb of God and Hatebreed at Roseland, NYC..! Anyone going..?

That was last June, right..? I was gonna go but I've seen them so many times, something else came up, and I was like f**k it...

Did you go the Ride the Lightning night, or the Black (ewww) night..?

I was their both nights. Ride the lightning night was ok but pretty tame. Most of the crowd was dead. Black album night was a completely different animal. The crowd was really into it. Their was also so much more then just Metallica. Over 30 bands played over the course of the weekend as well the car show, the meuseum and comedy shows.

Red Hot Chili Peppers. I thought they were crazy and flailing about while they were on stage, but I've heard stories that they were even more maniacal back in the '90s. Really wanna look up some videos now.

But yeah, wonderful surprise concert, with great music, great musicians, and holy shit that was loud. I think I have some slight hearing damage from this.

Most bands from the 90's that are still together were better live in the 90's. They were younger and had more spirit. Korn comes to mind. Jonathan Davis used to have his famous freak outs on stage. Up till 1997 he would get so upset he'd be laying on the stage crying.

Apparently Metallica used to put on some crazy shows in the late 80s when they were really popular. I've heard stories of them tossing beer bottles at the crowd.

These days, live, Cornell's voice is hit-or-miss...you figure with his style of singing, that voice wouldn't last forever so it's understandable...

How anyone thinks he can't sing is crazy to me though...just make them listen to Jesus Christ Pose...

The Tragically Hip. Goddamn, that was insane. I knew as soon as Gordon Downie canoed across the stage using his mic stand as a paddle that I was in for something special. One of the loudest concerts I've been to (these guys rivalled the goddamn Chilli Peppers for decibel level), and one of the most purely entertaining. So many fantastic songs that they played, yet so many more I wish I'd heard. The most surreal moment by far was when Downie began talking about his relationship with both his microphone and his mic stand, as he stroked both in a somewhat sensual manner.

Oh Christ, my ears are in actual physical pain right now.

Yeah, it was tonnes of fun. Downie is one of the strangest performers I've ever seen, and I loved every minute of his antics.

They didn't play Three Pistols or 50 Mission Cap, which disappointed me slightly, but they have so many great tunes they'd ultimately leave something out no matter what.

Sooo, that Mansell show was Wed night...was awesome...Aronofsky was on hand for introductions, and then the music started and it was incredible...they played sets of three songs for Pi, Moon, Last Night, Stoker, Requiem for a Dream, and The Fountain...before each set, Mansell gave little anecdotes about the corresponding film (except for Moon and Pi -- Aronofsky talked about Pi)...Kronos Quartet ripped it up, as did the other musicians...there were special appearances by Peter Broderick and Emily Wells (Broderick via Skype or maybe a prerecording, Wells live)...all of this on the altar of the Church of St. Paul the Apostle, which was hilarity, but also added to the experience in a haunting sort of way...

Overall, it was more than I was expecting live for music that is essentially dark, ominous tones...really enjoyed it and would love to see them again...

Eric Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Festival 2013.

Holy shit. Just... holy shit. Two absolutely fantastic nights.

Mere words would not do this justice, so I'll just post the performers list and let your imagination do the rest:

Albert Lee
Allan Holdsworth
Allman Brothers Band
Andy Fairweather Low
B.B. King
Blake Mills
Booker T
Brad Paisley
Buddy Guy
Citizen Cope
Dave Biller
Doyle Bramhall II
Earl Klugh
Eric Clapton
Gary Clark Jr.
Jeff Beck
Jimmie Vaughan
John Mayer
John Scofield
Jonny Lang
Keb Mo
Keith Urban
Keith Richards
Kurt Rosenwinkle
Los Lobos
Matt "Guitar" Murphy
Quinn Sullivan
Robbie Robertson
Robert Cray
Robert Randolph
Sonny Landreth
Steve Cropper
Taj Mahal
Vince Gill

To top it all off, Dan Aykroyd introduced all of the sets.

Some stand out moments:

Clapton, Andy Fairweather*, Vince Gill, Doyle Bramhall II doing an acoustic Wonderful Tonight.

*As an aside, I just have to mention that Fairweather awesomely looks like an English professor whilst absolutely shredding the guitar and belting out the Blues like a goddam Delta legend.

Booker T, Keb Mo, Cropper, Mills, and others just jammin' it up playing Green Onions.

Gary Clark Jr. playing Don't Owe You a Thing solo; just him, his guitar, a bass drum, and a high-hat.

Robert Cray doing Great Big Old House (which was beautiful), shortly before being joined by Clapton, Vaughan, and the King himself on stage.

Dan Aykroyd going full Blues Brothers whilst talking between the sets; one minute he's just normal Dan. In the blink of an eye, Keb Mo's out there with him, sunglasses have somehow materialized on his face, and there's a harmonica in his hand, and he starts coverin' Muddy Waters and singing about how he's gonna go down to Louisiana and have sex with anything that has a pulse.

John Mayer and Keith Urban covering Don't Let Me Down. I never really liked those two musicians too much before, but after seeing them here, I have a very deep respect for them both; absolutely masterful guitarists, and their rendition of the song was simply beautiful.

The most surreal moment was when Clapton started up the big finale, with Keith Richards appearing out of nowhere (hadn't been on the lineup), backed up by a drummer who looked like a cross between Idris Elba and Paul Winfield, and a pianist who unfortunately had the distinct honour of appearing the result of a wild love affair between Eric Idle and Sméagol.

Also, absolutely everything that Buddy Guy did or was remotely involved in. I am of the opinion he's the greatest guitarist I've ever seen, and those are big words considering the company he kept over the weekend.

There's tonnes of other moments, but way to many to list them all. I know there's at least a dozen other things that I just can't think of right now. It was a wonderful two evenings of Rock 'n' Roll, Blues, Jazz, and even a little bit of Funk (courtesy of the Slow Hand himself).

"See you in three years," were Eric's closing words.

Oh God, I hope so, was all I thought in reply.

Classic British psyche at its best. Peter Daltrey still delivers! Great night!

MSG was nice. I'd been there once before for a Knicks/Celtics game, many years ago (back when those were two of the worst teams in the NBA).

Needless to say, I enjoyed this outing much more. ;D

Awesome, at least it was a rivalry game, those are always fun (crap teams or not)... :)

I think the place has incredible acoustics for a big venue...some of the others I've been to really make it stand out...

The Musical Box (Genesis cover band from Canada) playing The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway in its entirety in November 2011. They are the only band that all the original members from Genesis support; they told them EVERY minute detail for re-constructing concerts from their 1970s albums. I told myself I will not see any other concert until they come back, playing whatever albums/songs they choose.

UNLESS, Tears For Fears comes within 150 miles of Pittsburgh ;)

Rammstein on April 20th 2012.
Best show I've ever been to, their amazing live sound wise, they sound better live than they do on their albums. The show is extremely theatrical and entertaining, lots of pyrotechnics, lights, confetti cannons, foam cannon painted suggestively... :D . The crowd was the best crowd I'd ever been apart of. I'm a 230 pound 6' 4" guy and I got pushed around by a 5 foot nothing what must have been 90 or 100 pound girl who was just as hyped as I was, I fell over in the middle of the pit and some dude grabbed my arm and helped me up before my butt ever touched the floor. Everyone I ran into (literally and otherwise) was great.
The band members are extremely humble, not something I expected from a band as successful and one that has been around as long as they have.

Bon Jovi.  I'm not a fan, but the First Lady is and she got tickets so cheap it would've been stupid to pass up.  I maybe knew a quarter of the songs they played across 2 hours 45 minutes, but a lot of the ones I didn't know were pretty catchy.

I watched this YEARS ago when I purchased it. Thought it was ok, but I really didn't know all the songs. Now, years later, I am FAR more educated on PSB and what everything they perform is about and my views on this concert are VERY good. Chris Lowe puts more bass and beats in the tracks and it really shows! I wish I had a fraction of his talent on keyboards... The dancers and visuals are well thought out and you can tell they trained hard. Overall a great show from PSB and makes me want to see them on tour when they get back around to the states once the new album (gasp!) is recorded and released hopefully next year!

9.2/10

Pittsburgh Pride featuring Ke$ha

The acts were as follows:

Silver Haze (a lesbian rap duo from Detroit), actually decent and were a good opener.
Wrabel - a kinda Zedd copy (only gay), but his songs were mellow yet upbeat.
After a while, Ke$ha finally came on the stage and performed for over an hour. My views on Ke$ha have always been meh, but man did she put on a great show! Everyone was singing along and dancing, having a grand ole time. Makes me wonder what will be in next year's Pride... ???

Btw, my ticket was 50$ (as was everyone else's) and the venue was a small stage with laser lights and spotlights on the middle of a street in downtown Pittsburgh. Great first Pride concert! As you can imagine, the men were kissing each other as were the lesbians, I felt like I did belong there and was wonderful to finally see same sex relationships flourish without any political or religious in differences/bs.

Anthrax had a better set IMO because they were more lively. The lead singer (name escapes me right now) along with Scotty always keep everyone energised. Slayer had a very Satanic backdrop which was keeping in line with their music and it looked bloody awesome, but they were kinda meh in how they reacted to the crowd.

And thanks haha. They were ringing for almost a week after the show was over!

Yep Anthrax always are very energetic on stage. Joey (Belladonna) has a great voice and presence in the band - happy he's back (though I did love their John Bush era music too).

Just got back from...

Tears For Fears / Darryl Hall and John Oates

All I can say about TFF is... I was in the eighth row and made direct eye contact with Roland Orzabal for a solid second. I am going to be in awe until my death. :D

Crossed off another bucket list item/10

As for Hall and Oates, it was surprisingly very VERY good. Was a tad sad they didn't play Adult Education, but the 15 minute jazz rock version of I Can't Go For That was absolute brilliance and pure musicianship.

9.5/10

The missing .5 was because Hall looked upset his main guitar kept screwing up.

Yup.  I didn't know you lived in Adelaide.  Lived there for a year back in 1986.

I lived in Melbourne for 7 years (2000-2007). Loved it.

Saw Modest Mouse last night and now have the post concert blues. They are phenomenal live and Issac is hilarious when he rambles between songs.

I've been fortunate to see them previously (5 times). They've always been superb.
And I'll state that as much as I love Metallica it was always Megadeth first for me. Of course my big fav is Anthrax. Enjoyed Slayer too but got into them much later and had the pleasure of seeing them off on their farewell tour.

Really good honestly
Sure Coverdale's vocals are nowhere near where they were in the glory days, but what an entertainer.

Also sad that Mick Jones wasnt well enough to join Foreigner onstage, but still a great set and the band is in safe hands
