Post by: Biomechanoid on Mar 01, 2013, 03:16:28 AM
A photo shop piece I designed.

For those who enjoy visuals of the universe, galaxies, the cosmos, I give you The Xeno Nebula.....

Agreed. Put a moon in the background and the nostromo in it and you've got an Alien poster or dvd cover 8) Great work biomechanoid :)

Ooooh... really nice. Like the look and the idea others have of art for promotional and/or packaging.

Much appreciated, Russ.

Next:
The Chain Room
Filters: Required numerous filters. The background was photo image and the creature was a 3D rendering that's been floating around the web for years. So I layered in several filters with differing transparency blends to get both photo image and 3D rendering to produce a matched, painted visual feel.

note - I know that's the wrong type alien for the chain room, but I really liked the pose of that rendering in relation to the background.

I really like that. Interesting texture to the Alien.

Post by: Biomechanoid on Jan 20, 2015, 04:29:09 PM
Thank you, Hicks.

I actually had to spend more time on the background. As you know from the film, there is no complete view of the chain room. You might remember in the movie, the camera view starts at the bottom and then pans up to reveal the upper area with water dripping down. I grabbed a number of screenshots from bottom to top, pieced them together, and blended the seams.

Unfortunately, the camera view did not pan up parallel to the view. It did a swivel pan up (sorry, I don't know cinematography lingo/talk). So that changed the angle on objects when piecing it together. The large machine or whatever it is, suspended by chains, blended okay. But it was the chains that are out of whack. In fact if you look right under the creature's right hand, you can see two chains not lined up. Each time I tried to line them up it threw the big machine out of whack. So I sacrificed the chains in favor of the machine.

Part two of the design above: For those who would like to see the complete chain room pieced together, strictly photo image, no photoshop filters, here you go....

No, my current project is working on another enhanced script presentation.

Meanwhile, here's another merge pan view. Aliens 86. We never see the alien-encrusted chamber in a  complete view. Merging a few screen shots and blending the seams, here's the chamber in it's complete view.....

Nice job, man! Really dig those. Do you make forum signatures at all? Bet you could do some kickass ones.

Thanks Hicks. I used to make static signature templates for another alien forum for members to add their own text. (alienexpressions? alienconnection?, I forget the name). This template was one of the more popular signature templates at that forum back then....

(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.scifimoviezone.com%2Fimageavp%2Fquadborder99.jpg&hash=23b42a73430a987c35681da477ffe67e6eaf32a4)

Signature Template 002 - PNG image. 600x116. Space on the right to add your text. Be sure to save as .png to maintain transparent background. It will adopt any color of any forum's background color as its background.

(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.scifimoviezone.com%2Fimageavp%2Fsignaturetemplate002.png&hash=1f203e223c9a979b33814228eb26ad9ddfd118a8)

Signature Template 003 - Same PNG instructions to maintain transparent background, apply as above.

(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.scifimoviezone.com%2Fimageavp%2Fsignaturetemplate003.png&hash=85e0cba5ef8dff95497333350bc861390a8954ef)

By the way, you don't have to stick with the transparent background for the PNG images. Another option is to embed them on top of your desired background.

Examples below.....

(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.scifimoviezone.com%2Fimageavp%2Fsignaturetemplateexample.png&hash=999f4f67ad5ef59c3a4ce95942f6bbdabc17c7f6)

Signature template004. You can add your text in the transparent area in the upper right.

(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.scifimoviezone.com%2Fimageavp%2Fsignaturetemplate004.png&hash=7583626295945e6da2bbf14b055c993f07e70471)

Signature template005 - Predators explore the derelict ship.

Fan of LeRoy Neiman?

Here's a photoshop piece I designed of the Covenant xenomorph in the style of LeRoy Nieman.

For those not familiar with Neiman, he was an American artist well known for sports paintings who's style included bold splashy paint strokes and brilliant colors.

He did, in fact, dabble in digital art on a Commodore Amiga (https://www.wired.com/2014/05/watch-andy-warhol-computer-art/) computer in the mid eighties! Your guess is spot on, friend. He would have loved Photoshop. :D

If not an alien, definitely think of making a David portrait, Warhol-style. Now that's something I'd love to see. ;)

I took early retirement so I have lots of free time and you mentioning Warhol inspired me to design a Warhol version of Predator. It didn't turn out like I had imagined. I should have removed more detail to match Warhol's pop art minimalist tone.

I modeled it on Warhol's Marilyn Monroe portrait......

Try posterizing it more, your version seems to have too defined edges and areas. If you wanna achieve Warhol's style you're gonna have to be VERY loose on the light/shadow thresholds. Other than that it looks great. :) Just keep tweaking and experimenting until you find what's most pleasing ;)

Posterizing wouldn't really work, that would add black outlines to the facial/head shape. Warhol was not really big on adding black outlines on subjects.

Subject is everything, and honestly I think predator is not the ideal subject to recreate a Warhol impression. Your suggestion of David would be a better subject.

Thanks. They're fairly easy to make. Pick a desktop design from the tens of thousands available on the web and layer in your choice of Alien and or Predator images, or any other characters. If you google image the key words "high tech desktop wallpaper" there's a lot of designs that would work well with Alien and Predator imagery.....along with other sci-fi.

This is a trailer remix of all five Avengers Endgame trailers.

Another note: While designing the ratings videos I've been posting in the reviews thread, something I never really noticed before - apparently the snare drum hit/rim shot is a very popular sound effect for those folks who craft film trailers professionally.

Need a sound effect for someone getting punched? Use a snare drum hit. A villain thrown into a wall? A snare drum hit. A gun shot? A snare drum hit. A machine gun blasting off? A snare drum roll. It's so popular I now have a collection of snare drum hit sound clips I use here and there.
