Was there another “Big Chap” in ALIENS that we didn’t see?

There's a lot of theories floating around out there of why the aliens look different in ALIENS. Some of them I can recall off the top of my head are that they were produced from the Queens eggs so they're actually different from the derelicts cargo, or possibly they 'molted' their dome as they matured since the alien in Alien is only about a day old max whereas the ALIENS are there for weeks.

With that being said though, Newts parents and those that went into the derelict and got infected as well were exposed to the eggs from ALIEN. So, does that mean there were some chaps running around? Did they start building the hive? Is that where the 'drones' lore comes from versus the warrior aliens?

I think it would be pretty interesting if the chaps were the ones that started taking over Hadleys hope, maybe one evolved to the queen, maybe the chaps were still in the hive but doing their drone work, or maybe the did evolve into the 'warrior alien'

Not saying I don't agree but what is the source material that backs this up? and how does the dome do that? Does the translucent dome just kind of shrink inwards towards the skeleton and then settles and change color? Wasn't sure if any of this is explained in the EU

And then I guess another question is how long is that part of their life cycle? At what point do they evolve into the warriors

David R. Larson makes some interesting comments and yes, the design of the "warrior" adult was altered slightly. His rationale for this is as good as mine (that the individual in ALIEN never reached maturity)

I always fell into the later camp. So yes at the starting stages of the outbreak at Hadleys it would have been a bunch of "Chaps" running around.

It's worth noting that in Cameron's vision, the so-called "warriors" are specifically NOT a different caste at all. In fact, in production, they were originally supposed to keep the dome. But Big Jim fell in love with the paintjob on the part which was supposed to go UNDER the dome and so they never added the domes.

He then rationalized it by saying the warriors we see in AlienS are older. But this doesn't mean they have different abilities or anything.

Tristan Jones had an idea I kind of liked. That big chap is a separate caste, a rarer one. like a Scout of sorts. It sort of worked as a field commander. It would command legions of warriors while away from the queen. And was supposedly more intelligent, as The warriors works best being commanded or else they act more erratic.
