Okay so I'll sum it up for everyone. On the 26th of May footage of what was believed to be an unreleased version of Colonial Marines for the DS found its way onto YouTube. It was promptly taken down by Sega but it is available for viewing on GameVideos - http://gamevideos.1up.com/video/id/24797
The video featured three companies at the start of it. Sega (who currently publish the Alien games), Wayforward (who are a group that work exclusively on Nintendo games) and Gearbox who are working on the console games.
On the 15th of June Randy Pitchford confirmed that a DS version was real but not being developed by Gearbox. When asked about WayForward's involvement with Aliens DS, which the now-removed YouTube page claimed was cancelled, president Voldi Way Joystiq that "there was no project cancelled by Sega for any reason" and "the video was definitely not something we put out." http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/59150
And now it's confirmed that the game is on it's way so I thought it was time for a thread. :)
So... Who sings that song? Do you know?
Ah.
More than one version. The DS vid was strictly Aliens where as the youtube is Aliens vs Predator. Nifty.
Looking at this game making me wonder if you will have to spam a button if a alien is on top of you, Just putting the peices together seems that way, Not complaining kinda cool. Also the DS version looks fantastic :P
Time to buy another DS (after I sold it to get a psp!!!) Where can i get this song?
I am hoping they release it as an arcade game on LIVE or as a short game for A:CM for X360, PS3 and PC.
in the video footage it clearly shows the gearbox logo at the beggining... oh well ???
anyhow i'm VERY excited with this game. almost as much as the original CM game. only problem is that it looks as though the graphic is quite awful. I wish it came out on psp to have a better graphics.
Its a 2D side sort of game, what do you expect Gears of War II played from a side angle. Plus maybe the DS game is also called Aliens: Colonial Marines and its just the DS variation of Gearbox's Aliens: Colonial Marines. When Halo was remade by Gearbox for the PC they still showed Bungie's logo.
^
well i expect a better 2d graphic game with more pixels and what not. obviosly i wasnt expecting a 3d game. i just wished it would have been as good as metal slug 6.
Yes I feel the same way but we have NO idea at what point in development stage the game is at considering they have not made it "official" other than what Randy said.
Looking forward to this.
Gives me a reason to use my DS again, and looks to be a fun classic arcade style game.
Now that I look at it a second time, it does not look good. It looks like one of the original arcade, 8-bit, and 16-bit consoles with crazy aliens, like a jockey alien!?! Those games were alright but did not hold the actual feel to the alien franchise. I'm also sick of every time someone fights a queen they HAVE to use a power loader. That was cool when Ripley did it but it is just...dull when I see elsewhere. The only good job AVP did was kill the queen in another cool way. I shouldnt critisize on a game that was even officially anounced, but we'll have to see what happens.

:) :( ??? im happy/sad/weird about wheather it should be on ds. with how horrifying aliens is. the graphics on ds are crap compared to the 360 and ps3. so if this game is going to climb the charts of best games, its not going to help with having it on ds!
LOL look at this dude profile he got banned with in an hour
What did he do? :D
The mods thought he wasnt worthy! :o ;D
Worthy of what? :)
Okay guys, enough spamming or I'm gonna start deleting.

Sorry.
This DS game looks good and all but the Space Jockey looks like a walking elephant.
Yeah, it does indeed look like an elephant! Hahaha! Also, is that an Alien King we see near the end? (huge blueish alien)
to tell you the truth, i hope not :-\
I hope it's not like Aliens: Colonial Marines (the comic)
the comic was not very good. the story was just bazarre.
What was it about?
Religious Zealot Hybrids.
Was it? I didn't think even Dark Horse knew what them comics were about.
Lobster Aliens are always a dead giveaway for jesus-freakism.
Lobster Aliens are always awesome!
most of the dark horse comics relate to other aliens dark horse comics
Woulda been better if they related more to the films.
well hive wars came out before alien 3 and it was pretty much trying to look like a sequel to aliens. most of the other comics are just continuing each other and so the comics are just like a different timeline apart from the movies
What about the ALIENS series of comics? Most people saw that like a direct could be a movie sequel to ALIENS.
The what now?
Aliens II: Verheiden, Nelson, Beauvais, Kieth.
Keith can burn in hell.
Only if you send Verheiden with him.
Bad Fan Answers I am guessing?
About the DS game.
The quality is pretty astounding in my opinion....For a DS game >_>. If it's any indication the level of quality put into A:CM, the signs are good. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Jockey or bull Xeno now in A:CM.. The good news is that the game is finished, but SEGA won't publish it due to financial reasons(?), and the fact that it would kind of ruin the surprise of the real A:CM, depending on how closely the DS game follows the original's story. Hopefully it sees the light of day... otherwise my DS will be mighty angry.
I'm pretty sure they're not releasing it because of another big game with Aliens *coughAVP3cough*.
QuoteI'm pretty sure they're not releasing it because of another big game with Aliens *coughAVP3cough*.
They're supposed to be releasing it along side A:CM...which would basically result in the exact same thing Cal427eb. I read that the immediate reason they are not publishing the game right now is due to financial reasons, they want to wait for AVP3 to blow over and release it alongside A:CM.
No. I'm sorry but they have given us the release date for AVP3 which should be sometime in February. They haven't given us one for A:CM. Releasing both along side each other would just make them compete. When if they were spaced out I would be able to decide which one I want to get. Besides them having to fight over each other.

Err...I think you misinterperted what I was saying.... I said they are releasing the A:CM DS game along side normal A:CM.
My bad. Sorry.
I feel stupid now. Sorry. But, maybe they're having problems with software? Dunno.
It's no problem, it happens.
Destructoid and Joystig, along with the original video on Youtube (removed by SEGA >_> ) have said that the game was actually completed, but was shelved due to financial problems in SEGA.
Canceling a completed game doesn't make sense. And if anything can bring some profits from the sales. There is another reason. Either they couldn't complete it because of financial reasons or making room for AvP3.

If it is completed....like many of the sources claim-
it's not cheap to mass produce a game and bring it to stores, there's a lot of money that goes into marketing a game.
Releasing A:CM DS before the real A:CM is finished would needlessly spoil any surprises with A:CM...if the two are indeed closely linked like I believe them to be. I don't think it is really in much of a position to compete with AVP..but it is possible. I think the combination of factors is the reason it's not being published yet.
Possibly. Seeing how SEGA is pushing AvP3 forward made me thing it has something to do with it. SEGA is spending money on AvP3 anyway. Off course all the finances may have been "given" to AvP3 but that's just too much speculation. A:CM is on the way - all I need to know.
The DS game will most likely be released next to A:CM like most of us think. Actual marketing and attention for the two games ALIENS only games will probably start around March or April in my opinion. And then at E3 2010 I am pretty sure A:CM is going to make everyone go f**king crazy for it.
Poor Predator fans are getting a crappy movie (JK) and sharing a game, while us Alien fans are sharing a game and getting TWO (maybe) Alien only video games. Not to mention that mysterious prequel.
To be fair.... we were promised a Colonial Marines game that never saw the light of day and got canned. Six years later we SHOULD be getting a new Colonial Marines game...if all goes well. Pred fans had Concrete Jungle, and the Requiem PSP game.... (couldn't play as an Alien so I count them.) It's been pretty even in my eyes. The Aliens franchise stuff is just all coming out at once.

Forgot about that A:CM, but Predator fans aren't getting a next-gen game. I still play AVP:R on my PSP, it is pretty restricted, but it is actually decent. Last cutscene was cool.
I only bring it up because we've waited a long ....long time for a decent Marine game XD
The Predator movie may bring about a new game... that hopefully doesn't suck like many movie tie in games.
The best movie tie-in game I have played that is actually fun, is the three spider man games. Those are the only ones.
The first and second were fantastic... The third seemed a little mediocre. The best movie tie in game I've played was the King Kong game for Peter Jackson's revision. I actually found it way better than the movie lol.
But I think we're getting a little off topic XD
Probably, but how much can we talk about a game that has been cancelled with only one video on it.
.... True >_>
Just a waiting game now.
Development for A:CM has not been six years. That is a bad mistake people make. It was CONFIRMED that Gearbox would be the developer in *2006* Gearbox had BiA:HH and Borderlands in development too not to mention a few other games.

I didn't say it was in a development for six years.... I simply said six years later.
Are you talking about the PS2 game?
Yes, I wasn't sure when the game was officially canceled...I THINK it was 2002-2003. Years pass and then we find out about Gearbox making a new Colonial Marines, no relation except for the name :P Now we're just waiting for this A:CM to come out.
I am certain A:CM will delivery its badassery.
I hope the NDS game will have NWFC, so it can be expanded a bit. And it would be cool to play as the Xenos too. Like the old Alien3 games, only that you are the xeno! But that would probebly be a bonus you unlock.
It would probably be easier to include playable Xenos in the NDS game.

Its still not for sure going to happen. Hopefully it will though. I think it will too.
So is the DS game for-sure canceled, or do we not know?
Unknown as of yet.
Well here's hoping it's not canceled. :) Maybe it'll get released when the bigger console release happens. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
It's possible they could be going another avenue. iPhone/iPod is all the rage with developers, one reason being insanely cheap distribution to 80+ million users. Sega has already released games on the platform. I wouldn't be surprised to see a version of this game creep up on the App Store, though everything I'm saying is completely speculative.
Call me behind-the-times or whatever, but I just don't like the idea of playing games on my phone. At least not serious ones. I mean, sure, I'll play a round of Tetris while I'm waiting at a bus stop or some such, but more in-depth experiences should be relegated to hardware that's actually built specifically for that purpose.
I don't think you're "behind-the-times" at all, in fact you make a valid point. For me though, at 27 I'm not willing to tote around another device solely for gaming. I actually love that there's such popularity in mobile gaming now due in big part to the iPhone, the App Store, and the impressive hardware it boasts. .
To keep this from straying too far, a game like CM:DS I think would adapt fine to iPhone/iPod Touch. However, I can see where some may not feel the same way due to the unconventional controls (touchscreen). But, as far as capable graphics hardware, the iPhone is quite a little powerhouse and simply leagues ahead of the DS, and in some respects the PSP, especially the 3GS model.
They will probably do something like that. Why would they release the big boy (A:CM/AvP3) for all big platforms (PC, PS3, X360) and then chose to release the smaller game for just ONE handheld.
I dunno, they could release on one handheld though. The DS has a massive user-base.
True. But you suggested selling it for phones and Ipods and such. These days many people have phones that can run apps/games.
It looks cool. But i cant stop laughing at the fact that when the aliens jump on you they start humping u :D

Lol, I never noticed that. They do start humping. :o
They sure do. But I think its mostly because you are trying to bash them off of you with your gun... That sounds wrong but by gun I mean Pulse RIfle.
Sure ya do.... ;)
The only alien that ever seemed like it was humping anything was the dog alien from Alien3. This makes perfect sense if you ever had the misfortune of getting your leg humped by a dog since it has long been established that all xenomorphs take on some qualities of their host.
