Whatever it is, I'm so excited! since while the franchise isn't dead, I was starting to be afraid for its integrity for a moment. :)
This can't be the new comic with Amanda - that's four issues, and this is listed as being six parts.
This can't be the fan films, as it is using the Aliens/Alien 3 era WY logo, whereas the fan content is supposed to exclusively pull inspiration from the first film.
My guess is that it will be a video game serving as some kind of a narrative followup to Isolation, released as a sort of episodic "season."
The 6 parts refers to the number of pics they are releasing. They have released 3 of 6.

In that case, if the X/6 is solely referring to the posts and not the final product, then I'm going to guess that it is indeed for Resistance then.
I finally played Isolation (and I absolutely adored it) so now I need to get my ass into gear and read Defiance before January.
EDIT: Though I guess it is just as likely that this is referring to 2019 in general. Resistance, the rest of Dust to Dust and Gibson's Alien 3, perhaps Blackout, 40th anniversary screenings of Alien, the fan-made short films, the blueprints book, J.W. Rinzler's making of book, the Isolation novel, perhaps Blackout, and whatever other content they have up their sleeves.

Aye, I keep forgetting about that one. Don't usually keep up with the novels (only read the Covenant novelization and The Cold Forge from the current Titan slate, and very few from the old Bantam/DH Press stuff) but I'm gonna have to keep an eye on it.

I am not getting my hopes up but i would really love it if this turned out to be Blomkamp's alternate Alien 3 movie. I was really hoping that would be made and at this point i find that more interesting and appealing than anything ridley could do in his prequels.

I don't think the show would ever be a sequel to "Alien Isolation". An adaptation of Isolation sure, then it can go on from there, but not a cross media sequel to it (imo).
We're already getting a cross-media sequel to Isolation with Resistance.
Yep, I know about the upcoming DH comic. I should have been more specific in media, as in strictly a live action film or a television series, I do not forsee it being developed as a direct sequel to the game.

I don't equate modern day individual moral codes/ethical guidelines to a 22nd century mega corporation who time and again have put scientific discovery above human lives. Corporations are sociopathic entities by definition as their only purpose and goal is profit. WY is an extreme representation of that and thus would do whatever is necessary to gain any type of competive edge IMO

I think a corporation full of hundreds of sociopaths who would do this no questions asked is James Bond villian evil syndicate territory. I can buy some rotten apples like Burk or some scientist in some isolated lab crossing moral boundries or even the company sacrificing single human lives when they can get away with it and there is just a small circle of people involved.
But to kill off a whole colony is just not believable. Aside from the fact that there have to be hundreds of inhuman monsters working on such a project, no corp would risk it's existence over such a test. It's like Microsoft dipping it's toes into chemical warfare and gassing a small town to test the stuff they came up with.

But even if not, whatever this is teasering can of course still be great. The artwork is fantastic and iam really looking forward to whatever it is. I would just have prefered of they did not turn WY into Umbrella from RE . But at this point it is all guesswork anyway. Maybe it makes more sense in context.

They tagged Amanda Ripley and the story sounds like it would fit with what we know about Resistance. I'm pretty sure this is just an announcement for Resistence.
Comic books aren't that wide in their commerce. This advertisement was costly to produce.
Side note, Have you guys noticed how few followers the official alien account have? I know alien isn't marvel or star wars but it kind of hurts when I see how few likes stuff like this gets.

That seems to be the case! The story from the dossiers fits in with what we've seen of the synopsis' too. It's not the first time we've seen some form of advertisement for the comics either - Fire and Stone, Defiance, Dead Orbit all had some form of motion trailers.

They have their own brands and franchises that they grew up with or are growing up with.

That makes it no less "mustache twirly." Perhaps if it's established that the colony is in open rebellion or something, but it's still a stretch that a "field test" of such a cruel weapon would be remotely justifiable.
It was stupid in the old EU too.
At least Spears had the dubious justification of needing to use innocent colonists to train his aliens. And this was only after Earth had already fallen and everyone knew about them.

Agreed. It can be argued that, unlike Covenant, "Prometheus" wasn't an Alien film, meaning it wasn't marketed as one, but as a new, good (good at least to me) sci-fi horror film that less genre educated movie-goers had no idea what it was connected to.

In the old EU, we had Spears running the show. He was isolated and as a General he was in a position to dictate what went on. Two important factors played into that. Maybe it's a colony that rebelled against the company or was overrun by pirates. I am open to there being a good explanation, but will reserve judgment till later.

The way I see it is scientific discovery and insurmountable profits would trump ethics every time for Wey-Yu. Obviously based on this dossier there are individuals within the company who disagree but most likely all have signed NDA's and can't say shit. I knew someone who worked for Lockheed Martin and couldn't say a thing about the projects they were working on. And we know from history the atrocities made in the name of both science and warfare. I simply don't think this is a stretch. And again we don't fully know the context, could be a prison colony, could be an uprising, but ultimately modern day humans are generally apathetic towards the plight of anyone outside their immediate life and the farther from your life the less one can relate. In a future where humans have ventured to far flung corners of space, I'd imagine the first settlers died out by the scores and folks back on Earth barely batted an eye. People most likely wouldn't know, wouldn't care or couldn't say a word about it. Again IMO.
Looking at the history of our species over the last few thousand years, I don't understand how anyone could think its far fetched.
The Company has a bio weapons division. There's a good chance someone's going to use them at some point - if only for urban pacification.
That's why I suggested a rebellion. It may take us a to a dark place, but suppose an off-world colony decided to ethnically cleanse itself and declare independence for the assholes that were deemed racially pure enough to inherit the place.
They're essentially Nazis. Go ahead and drop some facehuggers on them. Everyone dies and the company gets their colony back with a minimum of damage versus what it would have been if they'd sent in the marines to blast the shit out of everything.
If we're talking about dropping them on a colony populated by innocent people who've done absolutely nothing to deserve such a fate, that's where I have problems. The same problems I had with the Betty crew and the USM in AR.
All I'm asking for is a pretext, even if it's some kind of self-deceptive horseshit that's wholly fabricated by the amoral scumbags in charge to assuage the consciences of the non-mustache twirlers in the group.
At least the Betty crew didn't abduct a thousand colonists, if I'm not mistaken. Easier to cover up.

You've got to think in terms of a galactic scale too. The human population will expand so much more when we're on hundreds of other worlds. In the grand scheme of things, what is one little colony of (probably) under a 1000 people to an entity that is comparable to a government.

I'm pretty sure they sent the Nostromo near LV-426 and colonized it just to sacrifice employees for specimens anyway. I'm even more certain of this after the Advent short film. My problem is that Aliens: Resistance has to take place before Aliens. It would be fine if it took place after Aliens, but if Amanda Ripley is still alive, it must take place before.
So W-Y completely contained the aliens, bred them in captivity, and bombed a colony with them for research. This paints the company as being way more resourceful, capable, & knowledgeable than they appear to be thirty years later in Aliens. Doesn't make sense.

I don't find it hard to conceive it's doable when you've got hundreds of worlds, many with a population equalling a small town. That's not many fish lost in a large ocean.

I just find it more compelling when it's at least shown that not all people in the Company are evil. That's one of the reasons I really liked Isolation, because even though the Company was doing it's thing again, both Samuels and Taylor were not pure evil characters which made them a lot more interesting.
Fully believable to me that a company the size of WY could have many different divisions that almost end up acting under their own rule and there's no one of group of people actually running it so it say, as long as the profits roll in its all good.
Weyland Industries had over a million employees in 2033. This is over a century later after a merger.
In the End the Bioweapons Factory gets blown up, and WY is back at the beginning and has nothing. :D ;)

And that's what Fury 161 could have been, IMO. It wasn't a terraforming colony populated by families, but a privatized work prison that was apparently owned by Weyland-Yutani and operated with little to no government oversight.

Given the presence of an atmosphere processor in the background, I presume it's a "shake and bake" colony just like Hadley's Hope and therefore governed by the ECA.

Hannibal's story was already told in books and movies long before it was told again as a tv show. I had such tremendous respect for the films that I avoided watching the show for quite some time as it just couldn't be as good. This is why it all comes down to opinion. I also think Hannibal's story was covered excellently cinematically, and it was (to a degree), yet what Bryan and Co. accomplished changed the way I viewed and thought about the character forever, in a good way. I wouldn't mind a 3 season take on the original trilogy. But that's just my opinion, and I remain forever interested. Change it, flip it, take us down the unchosen roads.
If nothing else, getting the opportunity to experience Ash as a protagonist, or to more thoroughly flesh out his story would be intriguing.

I went and looked and my mistake mixed up it with the Sulaco. They manufacture Conestoga class vessels. The WY Report, lists out the weapons that are definitely manufactured and sold to the USCM. Then again, it doesn't say whether or not the APC or Dropships are manufactured by them. I...
I assume that they are also manufactured by them considering how much other equipment, arms, and vehicles are manufactured by WY.
Xenopedia also says WY owns the USCM but I don't trust that because I've never heard it stated or read it anywhere else.

Maybe by 2210 (the approximate date of AVP 2010) the USCM was no longer a unit of Goverment but had become a private entity. And perhaps in 2349, when megacorporations such as Weyland-Yutani were outlawed altogether, around the same time the USCM were forced to only have defence contracts.
Just for reference the majority of Alien Resurrection takes place in 2381.
On another note Alien: Invasion marks the event of W-Y buying out the Colonial Marines as happening at some point in 2600 AD. The company had become vast and powerful enough to become a major politcal influence rivaling official government.
Or maybe AVP 2010's non-canon,
alongside AVP 2004 & AVPR.
Perhaps AVP is non-canon relating to Aliens as it's standalone franchise. But within AVP canon Aliens is part of that. It doesn't add much to the discussion either way.

In fact, I can imagine that Gorman was given command of the mission specifically because he would show deference to Burke. I still disagree with it as a creative decision
but I can't argue with the fact that Isolation's
brilliant; although Amanda being Amanda Ripley-
rather than Jessica Lambert is a very, very small
factor in why it's good. Only supported narratively
by Ripley's transmission.
It could've and likely should've
just as easily been a nobody.
But that's not what we got.
Hope to see another game in the isolation mould, if not a direct sequel. I pray its not a mobile game! Fingers crossed but ready to be disappointed.

I can't do comics because I prefer Novels. I couldn't read comics even as a kid. I preferred the more mature and detailed nature that my imagination afforded me. Still images of what was happening took me out of the experience, there was no flow that the written word afforded. It was altogether too abrupt and silent.
And also, (and I mean absolutely no offense to anyone) comics just seem too young for my tastes. I can read the novelizations and most of the EU novels. But by and large I read books geared towards historical or literary importance. Like the sinking of the Indianapolis or The Old Man and the Sea.

When Prometheus was announced I was so excited and pumped... it's been only 8 years or so since then, what the f**k has happened to me. Was turning 40 really that bad of a thing? :'(

It was a MASSIVE missed opportunity.
I thought it was about 85% in terms of its potential. It answered many questions, and none of them were obvious. It took the mythos in a completely unexpected direction. The dumb stuff that characters did, or the lack of a Giger aesthetic are its main detriments.
What about the terrible writing and characters?
To me it was about 45%, the visuals are gorgeous-
some ideas, generally are intriguing
but the execution's terrible; no substance.

The characters were memorable enough. They just did dumb stuff. And that comes down to the writing. It's just my opinion that resultingly, the film loses 15%. Other than that, it was very rewatchable, majestic, mysterious, and grand. At first I wan't sure what to think about it, but it filled me with a sense of wonder that was so powerful that it overcame its inequities for me. It is my third favorite film in the series, right after Alien. A great great film. But I don't care to have popular opinions. I like what I like.

I think the issue you're having there is that you have elevated the film to intellectual levels while letting go of the fact that is is still fundamentally rooted in the horror-flick genre. Based on that, it adheres to certain genre tropes. It is the same old thing about a group of teenagers in the woods, and one or two decide to go off on their own. Stupid? Yes. But a timeless staple of the genre. Keeping it in mind that the film's creators chose to make it stick to that category of film, where people literally have to do some obviously stupid things, makes it an overall better viewing experience. Would I have wanted the characters to do all the right stuff all the time? Maybe, I'm on the fence about that. Could it have been done better? Sure. Then it could have been 100%. But I'm ok with 85%. Now Covenant,..... that's a 65%. It's like they didn't try to open up the big mysteries. They shut them down as soon as they were opened in Prometheus.

I think Scott's most fundamental error was in not deciding on the kind of film he was making: Ontological study on the nature of creation (ala
2001); or horror thriller (like
Alien).
Halfway in-between we got some once-over-lightly schoolboy philosophy, mixed with 80s-style horror-slasher tropes. Together, it has the faint whiff of pretentiousness. He should have committed one way or the other, either way would have worked.

It still makes it stupid for the guy, managing
"My pups" the mapping equipment to get lost.
And stupid for Millburn to interact with
a potentially dangerous unknown organism.
Especially with the context that he's in a tomb,
on another planet, surrounded by decayed corpses.
Fifield and Millburn separated themselves from the group during a situation where they had become concerned for their own wellbeing. Fifield was even willing to go alone. Not exactly the smartest of the bunch.

What Scott should've done was make the movie he was really wanting to make, which was a new blade runner. If he wanted to make small links to alien that would've just enhanced the film for me. Blade Runner is where his heart was, and still is. While somebody else could've done a standalone alien movie with new characters, or perhaps Cameron could've been enticed to come back and do Gibson's Alien 3.
Regardless, we are where we are. And oh, what could've been. What could...have...been.
At least we got BR2049 from Villeneuve. I hope to see the man take on Alien someday.

I know fan-made movie edits exist on YouTube, but the cinematics are connected with gameplay complete with annoying HUD and button prompts and they aren't usually done very well.

I imagine they called her nuts, and had her being watched. The first sign of trouble and she'd suddenly have an accident. But it wouldn't matter, adrift for 57 years and she comes out raving about aliens and cover-ups? Who in their right mind would believe her anyway? The company had little to nothing to fear from Ellen Ripley at that point.

3 is also bullshit. Sure the story is mostly correct but the story teller got the facts all mixed up. Hick, Newt and Rips all survived the crash landing and there never was a Ripley Clone, Ripley 08 is Ripley. The other clones were just very expensive animatronics cover up.

My guess for Watch at this point is one of those short films from that contest a while back will feature Amanda.
The rules of the contest prohibited using any pre-existing characters, so those shouldn't be what the "watch" is about.
Could be that they're doing an Amanda short film, and they "hired" one of the winning filmmakers from the 40th anniversary contest to make it. As a totally separate entity.
Since the Play part is nothing super special and Hicks did use a "Can barely hold my excitement" gif, I'd wager that the Watch part is gonna be something really good, because I doubt he'd get that excited for a mobile game... ;)
Another less likely speculation. Since we have a comic and a novel for the Read part, maybe we have another game for the Play part? Maybe more info on Cold Iron Studios' game will be released soon? ;D

So 'WATCH' has to be either a short or an episodic series right? I hope they got either Kezia Burrows or Andrea Deck to potray Amanda.
I mean, what are the odds that they could successfully keep something like a series under wraps that wasn't just rumor mill speculation. While I wish it was something like a well budgeted Netflix series (although I highly doubt), I personally would love to see something animated. I think you could do a lot with Alien stories in animation. I guess we'll have to wait and see what "WATCH" refers too.
I would actually prefer something animated than live action. An anthology of standalone stories like Animatrix and Halo Legends would be a great way to explore different stories with different writers and artists.
A dark and gritty, hard R animated series would be cool.

People overreacted with Blackout. They'll no doubt overreact to this. People are expecting, or should I say wanting, an Amanda Ripley streaming TV show, or even a new movie.. So yeah, they should just rip the bandaid off and get it over with because it's not likely.

It would be really clever if they used the actual Sevastopol geometry generated for the video game and made a film in there. It could be live action or it could be digital but just shot at very high resolution sort of like the Clone Wars cartoon. That would be a good waste of my time.

That is a painfully relatable feeling.
Blackout seems to be better than a lot of people expected after the announcement, but FOX should've been able to anticipate the response from fans. It really wasn't surprising how so many reacted.
I'm glad the game is fun and I'm looking forward to playing it. It's a bit confusing for me as well why are they waiting for the Watch part. They could've used that to put out the fires of the game announcement. Things have died down a bit, so if they don't do it soon, FOX is really going to miss the mark on this. So what if not all three things were loved? Resistance is interesting, Blackout is a nice fast food version of Isolation's atmosphere so we need to see what the Watch part is already. If they wait too long, the hype will be dead and it really wont feel like part of Read.Play.Watch.
What ever it is, something big (doubtful) or some cool short video, I don't think they have anything to lose. If it's bad, than better to get over and done with it now that reigniting the hate train. But if it's good, then it will bring back some lost faith from the ones who got mad over Blackout.

The Tongal rules stipulated they couldn't use pre-establishes characters.
Im hoping it's the rumored streaming series, but I'm assuming it's a cartoon, motion-comic, or machinima thing, something cheap and half-assed.

I honestly think people wind themselves up too much at the minute with what they come to hope for. You're expecting the Watch component to be the Tongal stuff?
If it's anything less than a trailer for a feature film, there will be whinging.
I just believe Fox should know by now, that people can't/won't manage their expectations- just look at all the people whom expected Alien Isolation 2 despite all the evidence to the contrary. So, the PR has to work around people's unreasonableness. CDProjekt does this, very very well.
If anything, I think our expectations are higher since the Disney buyout. We're all expecting an Alien renaissance on par with the MCU.

I'm not, and I think people are
really silly to expect that.
Partially I'm hoping they don't, because I can easily see big corporate hands watering down a franchise that's supposed to be about cosmic and corporate rape. (AVP Cinematic Universe, I can see it now.) And even if we don't get it watered down, we could easily get a "The Last Jedi" equivalent. Y'know- a renaissance without a plan based upon nostalgic imagery leading to an awful film, regardless of financial or commercial success.

They probably need to wait until DH's licenses run out first. However long that may take.
I'm hoping for the rumoured streaming series but am trying to prepare for something not as big.

Would we even want her? I'd personally value the voice over the body and cast Andrea Deck.
I don't really have a full on need to have Kezia Burrows reprise her role, but she played it well and she was likable. No harm in her playing Amanda again.
Curiously, both Kezia Burrows and Andrea Deck will have roles in Squadron 42 which is upcoming. They both formed the composite for Amanda Ripley in Isolation.
Personally, I think Deck is more important to the role than Burrows. Deck is the recognisable voice.
I'm starting to lean towards the same idea. I didn't even realize it was a different voice actor and visual actor until yesterday.
I don't know how Amanda's story would translate to live action, to be honest. Definitely not in the capacity of a feature film or a full television series. As some sort of live action web content, perhaps. Though I wouldn't be shocked if the #WATCH component is an animated short or a motion comic featuring Amanda.

Agreed! Her voice definitely reflects some of Sigourney Weaver's qualities as well, very believable as her daughter. Great performance.
As for the idea of a live action Alien Isolation, I think it's totally unnecessary. Some things are meant to be experienced in their respective art forms due to their core structure relying on it's mechanics. Much of Alien Isolation is spent cautiously creeping around Sevastapol, which wouldn't translate well to film in any impactful way. Sure, they could rearrange the act structure and write in more build-up and downtime for cinematic reasons, but then they'd be skewing the point of adapting it at all, in my opinion.

Yeah, I completely agree. The experience as depicted in Isolation itself wouldn't translate at all to an adaptation. But that's why you take some liberties with things to make them work in other formats. Not that I expect we'll ever see a live action version of Isolation. I am excited and curious to see how the novelization works out, though.
The Novelisation idea makes sense, because it's not wholly about the "Isolation" incident but about Amanda Ripley's family.
If they adapted Alien Isolation into a movie, you know it would be awesome!
