What does everyone think is the best viewing order for a first time viewer? Currently I think it should be:
Predator
Predator 2
Avp
Avp Requiem
Prometheus
Alien Covenant
Alien
Aliens
Alien 3
The Predator
Predators
Alien Resurrection
But I am a interested in knowing what other fans think is the best order.
Why break up the Alien franchise with Predator movies?
Personally I'd go more along the lines of
Alien
Aliens
Alien 3
Resurrection
Prometheus
Covenant
Predator
Predator 2
AvP
AvPR
Predators
The Predator
As the AvP films fit better into Predator's timeline. Or just go through the individual franchises in release order, then the AvPs.

I can dig it! 👍
A number of ways exist in terms of viewing the films in an order, but if someone's completely unfamiliar I do not know if a strict timeline's best being that for AVP to work, they ought to know the original entries first:
Alien Theatrical Edition 4K Blu-ray
Predator 4K Blu-ray
Aliens Special Edition Blu-ray
Predator 2 4K Blu-ray
Alien³ Special Edition Blu-ray
Alien Vs Predator Unrated Blu-ray
AVP Requiem Unrated Blu-ray
The Predator 4K Blu-ray
Predators 4K Blu-ray
Alien Resurrection Blu-ray
Prometheus 4K Blu-ray
Alien Covenant 4K Blu-ray

I disagree on your medium for Prometheus. That film should
always be viewed in 3D. It's shot fantastically.
3D's a complete waste of time and money.

100% disagree dependant on the disc.
Even on the very best ones like Avatar, Prometheus and Dredd it is still, a complete joke to me honestly.

A good disc, and a good screen can transform a bad 3D viewing into something amazing. I do agree, though, that bad 3D films and a bad environment and/or viewing equipment can ruin your perception, and possibly taint your opinion on the medium as a whole.
It's clearly on the way out, though, unfortunately. New WB blu rays aren't being released in the UK in 3D, and films which were originally going to be in 3D have been dropped. Still, I'm looking forward to importing Godzilla vs Kong and watching it in 3D, and I enjoy watching Prometheus in 3D, because it looks fantastic.
I am fairly sure I have witnessed the best the medium's got to offer, and that it is in my view ultimately not worth the price of the whole setup, like HFR I hope 3D never returns although it will probably with prices raised higher once again but hopefully not in such a massive way as it did in the early 2010s. I will take a higher quality picture presentation every time.
To each her own, but nothing has surpassed a the viewing options of both Predator and Guardians of the Galaxy than their 3D presentations on my high res 3D television. Theater 3D presentations, no thanks, but at home, these two discs, especially Guardians? It's the film on a whole 'nother level I can't even begin to describe.

I think Prometheus a Covenant where meant to be watched before Alien, not sure if Ridley Scott said it explicitly, but it seems to be what he was going for. I think its possible go as far as to watch Prometheus before Predator, not sure if its a good viewing experience, though.
Yeah but if someone's watching the entire franchise for their first time, the Prequels remain incomplete, and you want the first time seeing the creatures come to life on-screen to be their true first (and best) times on-screen.
I also arranged it so they dip in the middle in quality instead of leaving it on a sour note hence suburbia being back to back.
And with the Prequels being incomplete I elected to go with the thematic collective tissue between the last three listed.
Given a real conclusion and Skulls it might look different...

TQ has detailed some of the why, but in general the franchise is messy, unplanned and the prequels aren't finished (and may never be).
You should watch them in the order they were released, not the order of what year they are set in.
Pretty much.

I mostly agree with your order, but I think Alien and Resurrection should be theatrical cuts.
Alien TC is the only way to go.
Resurrection I feel you could take it or leave it, although that alternate intro is awful.
Yeah the "Director's Cuts" of Alien and Resurrection's the Theatrical Cuts as stated by both Directors.

Agreed, The TC's intro was always a highlight for me.

If Alien Awakening is canceled, it may be better to place the prequels after Resurrection. If Alien Awakening is released I think its better to watch it before the quadrology.
Yeah and currently it's in a state of non-existence as opposed to existence unfortunately.
Alien Theatrical 4K Blu-ray

I have assurances that it will.

I hope so. I'm subscribed to their channel anyway, so I'll hopefully see any news.
Hopefully sooner than later.
For the ALIEN films: original theatrical versions first.
It is my experience that people unfamiliar with a franchise go for a Special Edition first sadly on the perceived basis it will simply have more. And... yes and no for Alien.
For first time watching I would say release order
Alien (1979)
Aliens (1986)
Predator (1987)
Predator 2 (1990)
Alien 3 (1992)
Alien Resurrection (1997)
Alien vs Predator (2004)
Aliens vs. Predator (2007)
Predators (2010)
Prometheus (2012)
Alien: Covenant (2017)
The Predator (2018)
Prey (2022)
ALIEN:
Alien - Aliens
Alien3
Alien: Resurrection
Alien: Covenant
-
PREDATOR:
Predator
Predator 2
Predators
Prey
-
AVP:
AvP
Alien:
Alien (TC)
Aliens (TC or SE)
Alien 3 (SE)
Alien: Resurrection (TC)
Prometheus
Alien: Covenant
Predator:
Predator
Predator 2
Predators
Prey
AVP:
Nah
Alien:
Alien (Theatrical)
Aliens (Special)
Alien 3 (Special)
Alien: Resurrection (Theatrical)
For me Prometheus and Alien: Covenant are entirely optional because I see them as an offshoot that I don't even really acknowledge to be honest.
Predator:
Predator
Predator 2
Predators
Prey
As for AvP... I'd say check out the first just for the experience.
Annnnd "Belongs in the Dumpster Fire so Don't Bother":
AvP-R
The Predator
hmmm
Blade Runner (Final Cut)
Alien
Predator
Aliens
Predator 2
Alien 3 (Assembly Cut)
Alien Resurrection
Predators
Prometheus
Covenant
Prey
The way I watched switched back and forth between Predator and Alien movies periodically and I think that was good since they were contemporaries at points. Also watch Blade Runner first since it informs what Ridley Scot(?) pictured Earth like, from what I understand. (Havent seen the new Blade Runner though)
If we include Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049:
Alien Theatrical 4K Blu-ray
Predator 4K Blu-ray
Aliens (Either Edition)
Predator 2 4K Blu-ray
Alien³ (A34K)
Predators 4K Blu-ray
Alien Resurrection Blu-ray
Prometheus 3D/4K Blu-ray
Alien Covenant 4K Blu-ray
Blade Runner Final Cut 4K Blu-ray
Blade Runner 2049 3D/4K Blu-ray
Prey
As a first time watch, watching the movies in release order would be a lot more rewarding. All the movies build on the others, and I think it'd be more interesting to watch the evolution of the franchise. Besides, if you watch them in the timeline order you end up watching like two to three different homages to Aliens before actually watching Aliens.
Furthermore, I don't think the AvP movies or Alien prequels work all that well without having some understanding of the franchise(s) that came before them.
Alien (TC)
Predator
Aliens (TC)
Predator 2
Alien 3 (TC)
Predators
Prey
If you're curious after that:
Alien vs Predator
Prometheus
Relegate to the fires of Hell:
Alien Resurrection
The Predator
Aliens Vs Predator Requiem
Alien Covenant
Top 3?
Predator
AVP
Predator 2
I can't find the quote now, but someone once said:
Alien, Aliens, Predator, STOP!
Enjoy sweet, sweet life.
Some idiot.
Yeah, how much is the life worth living if you don't watch Resurrection
I was actually thinking, more along the lines of how dull do you have to be to not enjoy Predator 2 even the once?
Nevermind Alien³ or Prey.
The quote was made long before Prey.
For the record, I love Predator 2 and thought Prey was excellent.
This is absolutely not a dig at the OP, but I'll never understand "which order should I watch" threads, in the same vein as "what is a good jumping on point for (insert tv show here)?" - the answer always will be (and always should be) "the beginning." Any prequel chronologically always requires some knowledge of the movie or tv show that came before it, you will simply ruin the experience any other way.
So (to me) there's only two acceptable ways to view: Either release order of each movie (as if you grew up with them and saw each one as they arrived) or by individual franchise in release order (the latter is my preference, as the franchises shouldn't mix). Like with the release order, I'd always go for first versions of the movies released too, and then you have the joy of seeing the extended/directors cuts on a later viewing. However, if you are set on only one version of each movie, this would be my suggested viewing order to get the most out of the experience:
(Alien Movies)
Alien (Director's Cut)
Aliens (Special Edition)
Alien 3 (Assembly Cut)
Alien Resurrection (Theatrical Cut *you can take or leave this one, I treat it as expanded media like a dark horse comic - Alien is a Trilogy in my view)
(Pathogen Movies)
Prometheus (3D - as theatrically intended)
Alien Covenant
(Predator Movies)
Predator
Predator 2
Prey (Comanche Language Version)
*do yourself a favour and disregard Predators and the Predator*
(AvP Movies)
*worth a one time watch as popcorn flicks /live action dark horse comics, then put them in the same bin as Predators and the predator*
Release order... only ones I'd say you could move around and it wouldn't make much difference is swap Predators and The Predator around.
Watch AvP Requiem and nothing else.

Xenomrph doesn't consider anything outside of AvP Requiem canon. He's not very flexible on canon.

Truth
Watch them in the order that they were released, but start with the Alien franchise, then Predator, and finally AVP.
