Title: How the hell did Dutch's team miss the blood?
Post by: overthere on Dec 02, 2020, 11:21:32 PM
After the big shootout where the Predator gets wounded, his blood is on the leaves. Yet, not even Billy saw the big, flourescent green thing shining. "No blood, no bodies, we hit nothing" but it's right in front of them. Anna saw it, so how the hell did the team miss it?

On a side note, right after that, Dutch orders Mac to set up claymores around, knowing well he was close to Blain. A bit of dick move from Dutch? Show a little compassion, have someone else place the mines. He even has him do the first watch. Scumbag Dutch.

They are all colorblind.

Dutch was trying to get Mac over the loss of Blain so it wouldn't effect the squad.

They were looking for human blood.

Dutch tried to get Mac occupied and not deal with burying Blaine. He's also going to be the most on edge so exactly the person you want on watch.

They were looking for human blood.

This. At the end of the day, that's not something they would be looking for. Depending on how tunnel visioned they were looking for human blood, probably just went right past their notice.

It was green blood on green leafs in green jungle. It`s quite possible they didn`t notice the difference, while Anna native to this forest did.

But Billy finds invisible tracks, shell cases, footprints. Not like him to miss this.

There's no saying he didn't notice it and just not tell anyone. He was acting out of character according to the team, so maybe that was part of it.

Yeah he was the first one with Anna to kinda sense what was going on, so maybe he did.

The bright neon green glow-stick goo should've been easily spotted.

The most likely reason they failed to notice it was because the script said they wouldn't.

It never occurred to me that they somehow missed the glowing green blood, especially the expert tracker.

If anything, I'm surprised that even Anna didn't bring this to attention EARLIER, or even notice the glowing green blood on her leg that she wiped herself on with. She told them about it, after deciding to make a stand against the Predator and getting yelled at by the guys. Would have helped a whole lot so that they have visual idea to look out for.

Not to mention.....since Thermal vision makes non heat based objects blend in together, how does even the Predator notice the traps laid around the camp?

Local legend. She knows something about what it is. Maybe she figures she'll be safe if she just keeps quiet and let's El Diablo Que Hace Trofeos De Los Hombres take her captors. Then she can go home.

They were still her captors for a large portion of that. IIRC she doesn't really get into it until Dutch cuts her loose.

The Team are not from the area to them it could have been so sort of tree sap for all they knew after they destroyed 1/4 of the jungle, Anne is native to the area so it stands to reason she would pick up what looks out of place with regards to the plant life. The team was also more interested in the immediate threat.

Agreed. Also, at this point the team had lost two members which is probably something they have not experienced before or if they have, it would be incredibly nerve-wracking to have your friend/team member killed without knowing what/who it is. That could shake someone to the core and have them overlook something like the glowing green blood.

I took my son squirrel hunting. I kept trying to show him the 3 or 4 squirrels I could see. They were moving and standing out quite obviously due to the movement. He couldn't locate them to save his life because he was looking for the image of a squirrel, not movement.  In a adrenaline filled moment, this isn't even surprising, even if it is bright green .

The script has a mention around traps/trip wires in particular showing up in the Predator's vision (or referenced as the 'Observer' in the script).

36     EXT. JUNGLE - OVERHEAD - ALTERED P.O.V. - DAY         36

SEEN THROUGH HEAT-SEEKING VISION, FOCUSED ON Blain
and Mac, lying in the grass below, their bodies
outlined in LUMONOUS AUREOLES.  The Observer SEES the
NETWORK of TRIP WIRES guarding the approaches to the
machine gun nests.  The wires GLOW as if ELECTRIFIED,
standing out in hard-edged relief in contrast to
the jungle foliage.  He moves higher into the forest
         canopy.

The green blood was clearly less obvious in vhs

More seriously, they were looking for human related clues at this point, so some green blood splattered
on green leaves, is not that obvious, besides the predator was wounded by Mac's first weapon, so the
blood was near the spot where they were all firing. They went far away from that spot to look for clues

The real answer, they thought one ofgreen colored  glowsticks broke in the gun fire and leaked all over the leaves. An honest mistake. :D
